Hi lovelies,

Just ordered my first pen, I have a lot to lose, starting weight 19st 2lb ☹️

I’m excited… but incredibly nervous. I am terrified of side effects, I could do with a little insight to help me prepare.

I think it’s the nausea that is concerning me the most if I get that side effect. How long does it last for? Will it be all day every day? Anyways to cope?

Reading this thread has been so inspiring. You’re all doing so wonderful ❤️

I had almost no side-effects apart from occasional nausea.
I took dimenhydrinate tablets for it.
There was also a bit of heartburn, and I took Gaviscon. I was already on lansoprazole.

I had both diarrhoea and constipation, but they resolved easily with loperamide or senna tablets.

I found that the best way to deal with side-effects was to take immediate action, and not to go for days with problems.

But honestly, there has never been anything insurmountable.

Welcome and good luck! We'll be cheering you on.

Welcome @PrincessEmilyC .

Some things to keep in mind:

  • it doesnt work for everyone. If it doesnt work for you, you havent failed it's just not the right thing for you.
  • drink lots
  • we are all different, not everyone gets major side effects. Those who do dont necessarily experience them constantly.
  • drink lots
  • some people get good appetite supression from the outset others need to go up through the doses to find the right level
  • drink lots
  • it is very normal for your weightloss pattern to fluctuate; big losses, small losses, no losses, small gains. You arent in a race
  • drink lots
  • we are all on this thread because we have a lot of weight to lose, you are in good company. Your experience will be unique to you. Many people start only thinking about the weightloss but there will be NSVs (non scale victories) along the way: firsts, lasts, new experiences. We will celebrate these with you every bit as much as the weightloss
  • drink lots
  • nausea can be triggered by many things or not experienced at all. I am diabetic so am well used to nausea being triggered by low blood sugar. For me I know it doesnt last so I just breathe through it. It can be triggered by specific foods. Eat mindfully so that you can spot patterns
  • drink lots
  • mounjaro/wegovy make it easier but you still need to do the dieting graft: reduce portion size, eat very healthily, keep a very close eye on snacks
  • drink lots

Welcome again. Ask questions as you go. There is lots of experience here to call on. And in case I forgot to mention it:

  • drink lots
Doggymummar · 31/10/2025 07:28

Great advice GDP, but you forgot to tell her to drink lots

Billybingbong · 31/10/2025 08:22

Welcome @PrincessEmilyC . You will find loads of support/advice/encouragement on this thread, so do stick around.

I echo everything @GnomeDePlume said, especially drink lots (not sure she emphasised that enough 🤣🤣). You should really try and aim for at least 2-3L a day.

One thing I've realised is that everybody's experience is individual. Some people have instant supression, others only on higher doses. Some lose consistently, other have regular plateaus. Some have lots of side effects, others have none. There really is no set pattern. I hope your journey is a good one, but if you have any struggles along the way, there will always be somebody on here who has had the same and can guide you through. Good luck 💕

PearlTeapot · 31/10/2025 08:26

Welcome @PrincessEmilyC don’t go looking for side effects. They’ll come or they won’t! Didn’t for me except constipation because I barely drink.

Lds1 · 31/10/2025 08:46

@PrincessEmilyC in the early days I'd get nausea and headaches the day after the injection. I also used to get a really dry mouth in the night, still do sometimes but not so often. After over a year my main side effect is constipation but it's manageable.

My suppression has probably been more in line with normal eating in that I could still eat but smaller amounts, I've never been one of the people who just couldn't eat. I've been in a plateau recently and have been doing one meal a day to get things going again and I've managed that but when it comes to future me and maintenance I'll try going back to the 3 small meals. I also subscribe to the drink loads of water.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 31/10/2025 09:07

Morning all, it’s been a busy half term here so I’m just catching up on all the posts. Welcome @PrincessEmilyC you’ve been given great advice already, I will just add that I have never experienced any sickness or nausea, not everyone does. This could be down to the fact that I drink tonnes of water (at least 4-5 litres a day) or I could just be one of the lucky ones.

@PearlTeapot great to hear you are doing well, I hope you are well on the road to recovery Flowers

Well done to everyone else for all of the scale and non scale victories. I have a couple to add. Weigh day for me today and I’ve lost another 2lbs, despite eating and drinking out a few times this week, I’ve just made really sensible choices and not overdone it, something I could never do before MJ! Total loss is now 11 stone 9, and I’m just over a stone away from my target.

I went and bought a new thick warm coat this week as I’m always bloody freezing (my main side effect). The one I wanted wasn’t available in a medium so I tried the small and it fit perfectly! Couldn’t quite believe it! Must be generously sized as I certainly can’t be described as ‘small’ in any way, but still Grin.

Billybingbong · 31/10/2025 09:23

@MummyInTheNecropolis wow, that is incredible, you must feel like a new woman. I say it often, but I am in awe of such amazing losses, and find them so inspiring. Enjoy your new coat, you deserve it 😊

Week 30 weigh in, and another 1lb off, 5st 2lb so far. I'm feeling in the need of a boost, so have signed up to a 12 week programme with Second Nature. It was a freebie offered through work, so I may as well give it a go. It starts on Monday, and I'm going to try and follow the menu plans and advice as close as I can, let's see what results I can get.

EverybodysALebowski · 31/10/2025 10:07

Howdy all. Have had a very stressful month at work so now catching up. Feeling a bit stuck, with not much loss in past month. That's not surprising: I've indulged in way too many sweets and snacks, had several social events that involved way too much wine, I haven't been sleeping well, and haven't been drinking as much water. I might also need to nudge up my dose a little. I have a week away (holiday plus work travel) so when I get back I'll consider going up to, say, 6 mg/wk to see if that starts movement again. It's also time to rejoin the gym, now that I'm through the worst bit of work stress and my schedule won't be as overwhelming.

Enjoying having some smaller clothes though, and also just feeling more active, mobile, and flexible, rather than just being exhausted with aching knees and back.

Argh me too.

I've bought a heated gilet to wear round the house now.

Thank you @Billybingbong, what a lovely thing to say. I do indeed feel like a completely different person now! I still can’t believe it’s actually real and that this is who I am now!

MummyInTheNecropolis · 31/10/2025 10:17

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne I have this little lap warmer that keeps me warm on the sofa. Can highly recommend Grin

I've made sure my new pyjamas are all long sleeved and bought fleece ones too. Also have blankets about the house and one in my desk drawer at work. My fingerless gloves came back out of my wardrobe yesterday so I can keep them on and still type!

Haha oops, yes absolutely a typo. I meant 17st 6lb😳. So by default, can I say I've just lost 10st 🤣🤣

@MummyInTheNecropolis Wow a stone away from target is incredible! Well done!!

@GnomeDePlume thats a brilliant summary and really made me smile 😊.

@PrincessEmilyC I did have a lot of side effects and at times I found it quite tricky. But to be honest all of it was entirely worth it and worth the journey. My provider at the time had a pack of things you might need and I'd have some of that in. (diahrea, constipation, pepto for sulphur burps) and I had extreme fatigue and nausea day or two after each jab and work people facing so decided to jab Friday...

But people here Know Things and each time I had a new thing would ask here and it was manageable. The side effects of being morbidly obese are honestly far worse than managing the ones from. MJ as they arise.

FourSeasonsTotalLandscaping · 31/10/2025 14:50

A little NSV for me today as I went for a haircut and fit comfortably in the chair! 🎉 I’ve been putting it off for ages as I hate having my hair cut, at least partly due to not really fitting in the damn chair.

Lds1 · 31/10/2025 15:03

Ohhh hope the haircut has given you a boost too as well as the chair! Last time I went to my hairdresser I told her how much if lost, she said I'd never looked that big bless her! Then she asked about the jabs I said I was on them as I hardly ever see her. Then she said me too, it was nice to chat to someone in real life, though I didn't think she was a size to need them but she obviously must have hit the criteria.

Iwouldratherbesinging · 31/10/2025 16:03

Giggling about saying goodbye to dress up Diana 😂
Glad to hear you’re feeling better @Billybingbong and good luck with the Wegovy @WafflingDreamer, I’ll be starting on Wegovy in December so keep us updated. Yay to the losses starting again @52soon
@RenegadeKeeblerElf I also jab every 6 days and it works extremely well for me. Could you try 3.75 every 5 or 6 days to see how you get on?

welcome @PrincessEmilyC, you are me just over a year ago, the year will fly by in the blink of an eye. I imagined every side effect ever would affect me but it was/is just constipation- and if no one has mentioned it, drink loads 🤣 and get used to feeling cold!

The most obvious but important advice is to drink, drink, drink. Mounjaro has a dehydrating effect which can lead to constipation. I also recommend taking 'Biomel' powder each day (can buy on amazon) which keeps bowel movements soft.
Best of luck, best thing I ever did
