I’m back from maternity leave and have lost 4 stone (6 stone since the day I gave birth) and no one has commented. Do you think people are just being polite? I’ve went from 19 stone to 15 stone so it is noticeable. I’ve worked so hard to lose this weight and not even my partner or family have noticed/said anything

Are you?

No, but I look bloody ghastly atm as skeletal

you are though and my point was that amongst some who are not on WLI, there is definitely a differentiation between how one views the tremendous commitment that involves losing vast amounts of weight through what I imagine to be the insane slog of years of hard exercise and massive changes of diet and overcoming food noise…. And WLI (which also involves effort… I can definitely see that), but there is a difference and that simply may explain some people’s apparent disinterest 🤷‍♀️

Notsopls · 03/10/2025 11:02

But that doesn’t apply to the Op’sbhusband.

he should have absolutely commented and celebrated and be over the moon. Fact he hasn’t, isn’t a good sign IMO

bluevelvetears · 03/10/2025 11:40

When I was younger it was the norm to comment positively on people's appearance: 'you look well. Have you been away?' or 'you look lovely and slim' etc. I no longer do this as it seems it's regarded as rude and intrusive to make any sort of remark of someone's appearance. So it could be that.

Also, if someone loses a drastic amount of weight, the first that comes to mind is Mounjaro etc.

But then you have also been pregnant and had a baby so will be expected to look thinner.

Huh?? How utterly bizarre! I am underweight due to a horrible chronic condition and look almost skeletal! I certainly don’t neee to lose weight.

i am pointing out what lots of people who are not overweight have said amongst ourselves re WLI. Not bitchy so much as just…. Not particularly impressed by it whereas someone losing 9 stone through hard exercise and massive changes in diet with no injections - I am WOW!!!!

Ok so you’ve loads of mates who are nor overweight snd you all decided it wasn’t that impressive when you talk amongst yourselves. At one point did any of you feel weight loss was about impressing others, rather than health primarily and then appearance secondary for many. What made you feel it was about impressing you?

I lost weight on wli, impressing random people never even entered my mind. And it certainly isn’t what the op is asking about, she’s asking about appearance changes, and if it is visible after extensive loss, not are people impressed.

so utterly bizzare.

The OP, me and many other people have used WLI to just make this miserable task of losing weight just that bit easier. I don't believe that deserves less recognition because we had help. That is like saying going to WW or SW makes it easier so therefore is not interesting and any subsequent weight loss does not deserve the same recognition.

Why is it only worthy if it is hard, soul destroying and miserable?

Why should a husband celebrate cant speak for anyone else but my weight is nothing to do with my husband he doesn't need to comment

PissahNF · 03/10/2025 13:31

OP no one noticed I lost weight or even commented until I lost 5 stone!! and then all of a sudden everyone noticed! It was so bizarre.

SwitchingUpWLI · 03/10/2025 13:43

Hear hear @tryingtobesogood , could not agree more.

It all comes down to prejudice at the end of the day unfortunately.

These days given so many are shedding half their body weight in such short periods of time, if I notice massive weight loss - if I think anything, it’s I wonder if they’re planning on taking injections forever.

Just ask? I’d be happy to tell you. The answer is yes, absolutely. Of course. For multiple reasons, all,the health benefits they are now proven to bring, heart, liver, dementia reduction, inflammatory reduction, anti ageing of our cells, cancer reductions, insulin management, blood sugar management, and of course as it means I can easily maintain my new slim weight. So absolutely I will take a low maintenance dose for ever.

TheNewWasp · 03/10/2025 14:40

Oh they have noticed alright lovely, but they don't want to say anything because they are just green with envy because they lack the willpower to do something like that. They are cunts. Go ahead and enjoy your success and fuck the lot of them.

spoonbillstretford · 03/10/2025 15:10

I'm sure they have but I guess some loss is expected after pregnancy. I imagine you wear it well too. They will have noticed though.

Yes, it completely controls my diabetes and my weight. I have no plans to ever stop. Happy to answer any questions.

AnAudacityofinlaws · 03/10/2025 16:26

One of my colleagues has lost 3 stone on WLI. It’s not really noticeable tbh and I was surprised when she said it was that much.

It’s a life time medication, unless there is a cost issue or you don’t get on with them, or have issues with taking meds, I don’t see why you wouldn’t take them for ever, or until something better comes along

I’m in 5mg as a maintenance dose, the lowest therapeutic dose you can take, and maintained my weight for six months now, all the health benefits and feel great, and also I don’t spend my days feeling deprived. I eat a healthy diet, stop when full, exercise most days, and like my appearance again.

I think sometimes people want you to stop and see you regain. As shitty as that is, I do think some folks like that idea.

Yes I am.

AgnesMcDoo · 03/10/2025 21:40

I’ve lost 5 stone and most people don’t say anything.

I think people are scared to make personal comments these days.

I plan to take it forever.

I’ve reversed diabetes, reversed high blood pressure- in fact my blood pressure is now as good as it was in my 20s.

My physical and mental health is better than it’s been for many years.
