I’m back from maternity leave and have lost 4 stone (6 stone since the day I gave birth) and no one has commented. Do you think people are just being polite? I’ve went from 19 stone to 15 stone so it is noticeable. I’ve worked so hard to lose this weight and not even my partner or family have noticed/said anything

It’s because you’re back from maternity, people sort of expect you to look smaller after being pregnant and giving birth so it isn’t really unexpected they haven’t said anything. 19 stone to 15 stone probably looks like ‘baby weight’ has been lost.
If they’d have seen you everyday and you hadn’t been on maternity and lost 4 stone they would notice.
I don’t know about your husband it could be because he sees you everyday he hasn’t really noticed a massive difference.
I lost weight and no one noticed/said anything until I’d lost 2.5 stone (I’ve lost 7 stone over all) I could tell after a stone or so but I was 16.5 stone so at 15 stone odd I was still big.
Keep going people will notice! Well done on your achievement

Why is her husband a dick and a liar?

I think her husband is a dick and a liar too. There is no way he can’t see she’s lost 4 stone, especially when she goes and shows her clothes are too big, he’s clearly deciding not to validate it, maybe he feels it’s not enough, maybe he doesn’t want to give her that feel good feeling. Who knows. But that’s a dick and a liar right there.

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 02/10/2025 21:22

You wouldn’t comment when someone puts on the weight, I don’t comment if it comes off again.

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 02/10/2025 21:23

And if you’re happy, why does it matter if no one else has noticed?

DarkForces · 02/10/2025 22:19

I noticed my weight loss really quickly but it took others longer to comment. I'm now a solid size 10 and everyone comments. The me365 app is great for tracking how your body has changed. If you search for 'kitchen roll theory for weight loss' it explains why it suddenly gets a lot more visible. Don't lose heart. You're doing fantasticly.

But Op said he isn’t being malicious and she thinks he honestly can’t see it.

Fair few people have lost lots in my workplace and they have been morbidly obese for many years previously. I don’t think anyone has commented (well I haven’t and I haven’t heard anyone). I just assume…. WLI and not something I’m especially impressed by. Yes yes I know that you need to make changes. But I see these colleagues at work…. Still no exercise, still eating shite but just in tiny amounts and far less frequently!

As for your husband…. Well that’s totally different. There’ll be issues there, for sure.

SilenceInside · 03/10/2025 07:08

@NotsoplsI doubt your work colleagues are trying to impress you or anyone else. Losing weight, even if their diet doesn’t change, is still a better outcome for their health than doing nothing. And unless you stalk them all 24/7 how on earth do you know how much exercise they’re doing, or what they eat when they aren’t at work!

InfoSecInTheCity · 03/10/2025 07:12

I’m very literally half the size I was, I have lost 50% of my body weight - 9 and a half stone. People have only recently started mentioning that I look different and even then often avoiding using any words that relate to weight or size. It’s a really touchy subject and people are afraid of saying the wrong thing so often default to saying nothing. Your DH sees you every day so changes are happening in tiny daily increments which makes it harder to see the big change. My DH could see that I’d lost weight and was supportive but when I told him the other day that I’d officially hit the 50% less mark he was really surprised that I’d lost that much.

Huh? No one is losing weight to impress you. What an odd thought, you sound a little jealous and resentful. How on earth would you know the detail of their diet etc, as they clearly wouldn’t share with you.

Gettingbysomehow · 03/10/2025 07:28

Trust me people do notice but most think its not polite to comment on personal appearance.

Then that’s odd. My husband has lost a stone, I can see it. I can see the puffiness out his face, and his tummy going down, and he could see ir in me and always complimented,

I mean sure losing a stone maybe, but 4 stone, 6 at the top and the guy thinks she looks the exact same, even whe. She stands in clothes far too big. Cmon,

PollyBell · 03/10/2025 07:30

There few threads on here recently here we were told people dont want people to notice so people will be offended no matter which way people go, shouldn't you be doing ot for you only?

Huh?? How utterly bizarre! I am underweight due to a horrible chronic condition and look almost skeletal! I certainly don’t neee to lose weight.

i am pointing out what lots of people who are not overweight have said amongst ourselves re WLI. Not bitchy so much as just…. Not particularly impressed by it whereas someone losing 9 stone through hard exercise and massive changes in diet with no injections - I am WOW!!!!

Notsopls · 03/10/2025 07:31

As for not knowing the detail? These are people I have worked with for years who have sat across from me eating utter shite for years . And they continue to eat utter shite. Just much much less of it and much less frequently!

Notsopls · 03/10/2025 07:32

The husband not noticing - to me that indicates issues with him. Either utterly self absorbed or… there’s a reason he’s being so unsupportive in the OP’s weight loss

Notdonedancing · 03/10/2025 07:42

Well done OP. Be proud of your decision to deal with your health issue and make a change that will benefit you and your child by giving you more vitality and improve your health. Because weigh is visual and also seen as a beauty issue, there is definite jealousy from some who either can’t lose weight, or struggle to maintain their ideal weight. I would feel jealous myself but hope I’m the better person to still congratulate a friend. Even if I secretly envy them. I’ve lost weight and put it back on over the years, I’m a lot older, and I find the only ones who ever comment, are people from my age group, 55+, and people who wants to know how I did it. Hoping for some miracle. Younger people don’t comment, so I would guess your own age group, as it’s no longer seen as polite to do so.

CantSleepEver · 03/10/2025 07:46

To be honest I probably wouldn’t notice the difference between 19 stone and 15 stone on a colleague I hadn’t seen in months and who was pregnant when I last saw them.

This. I’d have got used to you being overweight, then pregnant. 15 stone is still quite big, so your colleagues may just genuinely not have noticed. Your partner should have though.

I’m not sure why this has turned into a debate and I can only tell you my experience. I’ve tried to lose weight all of my life. Eating 1,200 calories with intense exercise everyday. I don’t lose a thing. I’ve tried every diet going and every gym class etc. I’ve literally been doing this since the age of 13. It doesn’t work and I’ve been told by doctors that my PCOS and thyroid issues are contributing to this. WLI was my last resort, and all it does for me is shut off the food noise. This means that I’m not fixating about food 24/7 so my head is clearer and I can concentrate on exercise and being satisfied after my usual healthy meals. I use a lot of willpower everyday, I could eat way more if I chose to, I could sit on my arse and not exercise. I’m doing everything a slimmer person would do (and have done for years). The WLI just takes the edge off. I guess it’s hard to explain if you’ve not tried them or had similar issues.

InfoSecInTheCity · 03/10/2025 09:00

@BlueRugggi get you completely, I spent years and years desperately fighting my biology. As soon as puberty hit so did PCOS but doctors don’t treat PCOS they just tell you to lose weight. Which is incredibly difficult when you aren’t producing enough insulin and your body is resistant to using the stuff it does make. I have blood tests and ultrasound results going back 20 years confirming I have a medical condition but no treatment besides condescension and patronising ‘advice’.

Mounjaro triggers your body to create more insulin and use it more effectively so instead of glucose being turned into fat it is broken down and dealt with.

It makes a tremendous difference and has meant for me that the work, the tracking my calories, going low carb, doing exercise, eating whole foods and fibre…. Actually works this time it doesn’t just leave me starving hungry, tired, miserable and still fat.

It’s a good job no one is doing it to impress you then. Regardless of how it’s lost it’s still an achievement.
I have lost 7 stones over a period of time without injections I’m sure everyone thinks I did use them and is suitably unimpressed but their feeling aren’t my concern. Also to lose weight, and now to maintain my weight I eat what I like which includes shite I just eat far less and less frequently, that’s how people lose weight. We don’t eat lettuce and tomatoes all day and exercise is beneficial for health so people should do it for that reason, but won’t help to lose weight if people aren’t eating smaller amounts
