Oh, hope everything goes well @Thelittlestranger. My DH had spinal surgery one year (many years ago!) on 18th December and was discharged on Christmas Eve. I had a toddler and a 3 month old baby to look after as well, the memories make me shiver!

I've got a preliminary interview tomorrow about the other job so will see how I feel about continuing with the application after that.

PenelopesPursuitPrevails · 15/10/2025 17:34

Oh I missed that @Thelittlestranger , best wishes.

@MJalltheway tedious isn’t it. Best of luck. I’ve had an offer from the people who turned down my counter offer 🤯 today (they are now desperate 🤷‍♀️). Plus a couple of other things on the horizon. I don’t know what to go for, accept or decline atm! Not a clue. Every time I think ok I’ll settle for x for now and see where it goes, y and z make an appearance. I am missing my/a team. Early days I know.

Thelittlestranger · 15/10/2025 17:39

Thanks all - he's only 49, so a bit of a shock for him really to find out he needed a hip replacement (on both). It's made him feel old...

Jins · 15/10/2025 17:44

Jeans update for @Thelittlestranger (and my best wishes)

No luck in any of the shops I tried. Mid rise is still pretty high and it doesn’t work with my weird rib cage. So I stopped at my favourite charity shop which is currently selling women’s clothes at half price and picked up a pair of gap girlfriend (what is that anyway?) and some Zara in bottle green. Both fit perfectly and both will be dyed in the coming days. As an added bonus I got a pair of hardly worn stan smiths and spent £10 on the lot.

hunkydory54 · 15/10/2025 17:54

@ThelittlestrangerI had both my hips replaced in my late 50s as I discovered I had hip dysplasia. I’m now 61 and it’s the best thing I did. I could hardly get up the stairs and in and out of my car - terrifying. Recovery is pretty quick and they get you walking around with crutches within 24 hours of the operation. The first week or two is when you need the most support but your strength comes back pretty quickly. Wishing you and your husband all the best

PenelopesPursuitPrevails · 15/10/2025 19:52

@hunkydory54 that is very positive. A very good friend of mine had his hip and opposite knee replaced within a very short time of each other and recovered very quickly/regained his lost mobility.

I have a very positive update tonight. My Boden order has arrived, both dresses, size 14, fit as I had hoped, slightly snug but definitely not too tight. I bought a pair of wide leg cords from M&S in a size 14 too this week which fit, they'll look better with 7lbs off but they fit right now.

That's it for me in the buying dept, I've got a few smart casual things to wear for the next three months and I will think again/splurge in the January sales.

2025istheyeari · 15/10/2025 20:18

No parties here either but we’re in Thailand for Christmas woohoo! I’ve been in London this afternoon before early dinner with ex work colleagues/ friends who I’ve known for 20 years. Bought some jeans from Uniqlo and a sparkly lip gloss!
@HeidiLite love the sound of both parties and Vinted purchases!

hope your DP recovers well @Thelittlestranger . @hunkydory54 wow, sounds like you went through the mill, pleased things worked out well.

Good luck tomorrow @MJalltheway and hope it gives you some clarity.

@PenelopesPursuitPrevails sounds like you have lots of options which is fab, I’m sure something with happen/ click to give you clarity too! Great news on the clothes too 🎉.

@Jins great bargains!

My call was about salary! I have a final stage with the President here hopefully tomorrow or next week and if I’m successful will start 3/11, keeping everything crossed!

HeidiLite · 15/10/2025 20:27

everything crossed @2025istheyeari !

Thelittlestranger · 15/10/2025 20:57

Sounds like they are just dotting the 'Ts' now @2025istheyeari

Great charity shop purchases @Jins

@hunkydory54 thank you for the reassurance. I expect and hope he'll be the same, but he's being fairly adamant that it might take him a long time. I think it's his way of coping...

I so nearly stepped on the scales earlier and then was like 'what are you doing?!?! It's end of day, nothing good will come from this.' It's like an addiction I'm trying to break.

In other news I ate a huge meal this evening - possibly twice as much as I would have done on MJ a few months ago. However, it was healthy, I've been to the gym and i haven't overeaten today. Another mindset I need to shift.

BlueLimes · 15/10/2025 22:05

Wishing all the best @Thelittlestranger
sounds very promising @2025istheyeari I've been googling those lipglosses (FOMO).

Christmas - we always host. I’ve a few family lunches, 2x work parties. And in January I’m going to Taylormania with DD. I’ll probably need something sparkly.

Polkadotdash · 15/10/2025 22:30

@Thelittlestranger just remind your husband that Liam Gallagher has hip replacements and therefore he’s joining a club with a bit of pomp and status!

meatyryvita · 16/10/2025 06:54

Best of luck to your husband @Thelittlestranger!

all these dresses and sparkly outfits sound wonderful - isn’t it nice to buy things you like and that emphasise the bits you like as opposed to buying things to hide?

Weigh in day here and the first since my Wegovy dose went up to 1.7mg. 1.3lbs lost which is fine. No whooshes these days but better than STS or putting on (which I had two weeks on the trot!).

Have a great day losers xx

Well done @meatyryvita , good loss.

I didn’t jab yesterday, I just felt very refluxy. I will do it today 🤞.

Weighing in at 82.2kg, 12st 13lbs today. Still more than two weeks ago which remains boring.

RockyisMYRhino · 16/10/2025 07:28

Weigh in day here and I’ve reached a new low 😁
I’ve been focussing on my total calorie intake a bit more this week as this seems to be where my problem lies and not gone above 1400 and drank more water than usual (although I usually do around 3 litres a day). Fingers crossed my switch from MJ to Wegovy goes ok on Sunday and the downward trend continues!

tinyemmy · 16/10/2025 07:33

Just checking in. Best of luck to hubby @Thelittlestranger

I caught sight of my body today and used positive words about it. I'm 45 I think this is the first time in my life, that's quite sad. The biggest difference (other than mj) is twice a week strength circuits. I ran for years, often 6 days a week, marathon trained, did a bit of strength still hated my body. I wish I could tell everyone strength is a must, I think it's the consistent twice a week. I must get my daughters into it somehow...

Have a great day. I'm in the countdown to holiday on Wednesday.

HeidiLite · 16/10/2025 08:01

@tinyemmy isn't it just? Now that I'm eating more, I can see my glutes growing and getting perkier and rounder, looking good! Arms are fabulous.
So much better than when I was spending hours and hours on cardio only.
And of course there's so much evidence showing what a difference muscle mass makes to our health when getting older.

How old are your daughters? I think it's lovely that it's 'allowed' to be fit and strong nowadays - when and where I grew up, it was all about being skinny and delicate. Still traumatised by an article in a teen magazine, where they strongly warned girls to stay away from weights, as you will immediately get bulky - and if you already have strong build, you shouldn't even do any body weight exercises like bodyweight squats. How ridiculous!

Luckily DD loves that she's naturally strong and does a ton of sports.

I jabbed on Sunday last week so I'll see how I am feeling suppression wise by then and decide when to jab. I like the idea of spacing out the doses but I get confused easily so I'm not sure I could remember 🤣
Thursday is still going to be weigh day.
Good luck to everyone weighing and jabbing xxx ❤️

BreezyPeer · 16/10/2025 08:10

Morning 🌄 losers! You are a chatty lot and I promise to catch up and reply but I have a rare in person meeting today so I have to get up and out!
Have a great day everyone xx

PenelopesPursuitPrevails · 16/10/2025 08:20

Oooh, I’ve been taken by surprise and Farmeci have charged me for and dispatched a 10mg pen so that stops my dithering. I need to look at what I’ve signed up for and cancel it! Not a bad price £263.99.

Jins · 16/10/2025 08:54

Morning losers!

I’m not seeing much that I like in the mirror but I can’t think of a time when I did. I’m catching the odd glimpse of things I like though which is good. I started using my cross trainer again yesterday. I’ve had a week off because my knee was playing up but it’s feeling a bit better now.

I tried my charity shop jeans on again last night and the Zara ones are pretty good. They just remind me of my sixth form days when we all wore skin tight coloured jeans (and took them in to the point that it was hard to get your foot in them). I’m just not sure about the bottle green. The gap ones are good to go despite being a bit big. The only problem is that they are very light blue, almost white, and I’m a messy bugger. So I think I’ll dye the green ones black but I need to research what to do with the nearly white ones. Stan Smith’s should give me a small profit on Vinted but I’m tempted to keep them.

I’ve almost finished a pair of warmer trousers from a pattern I’ve made loads of times before. It’s a sort of woven jogger style with open bottoms. Last time I made a size US 12 but this time I measured a size US 2 so that’s what I made. They fit! They could do with being a little looser on the waist to improve the gathered appearance but they fit! It’s been quite a mood lifter.

Still eating far too much sweet stuff but DH pointed out that it’s not uncommon for me to do this after being glutened so hopefully I’ll get back on track. Weight seems to be holding +/- 9st.

Have a fab day all!

MJalltheway · 16/10/2025 09:09

I can admit this here amongst the nice outfit chat, I went shopping last week (for work trousers) and actually spent ages trying on lots of fab long dresses for imaginary parties instead 😂
I had a lovely afternoon!
feeling quite sniffly today so think I'm possibly going to come down with something - amazed I've avoided it so far to be honest, I usually get something as soon as the kids go back, little germ factories that they are.

PenelopesPursuitPrevails · 16/10/2025 09:12

You look amazing in that dress @MJalltheway .

Did you find any work trousers? I'd like some wide leg, wool, tailored trousers in navy.

Hope you feel better.

Jins · 16/10/2025 09:30

I hope you bought that dress @MJalltheway! You look amazing! I’d hold a party myself just to wear that.

MJalltheway · 16/10/2025 09:34

It was almost impossible actually, there's just a sea of polyester out there. Everyone seems to be trumpeting recycled polyester as the in-thing. Still polyester though!
I'm quite limited with shops given we're in the middle of nowhere but went to our local outlet village and tried Hobbs, mint velvet, phase eight, M&S and no luck in any. I did manage to get one pair of wool blend wide leg trousers in Next but that was the best I could find.

PenelopesPursuitPrevails · 16/10/2025 09:56

I think I am finding the same thing. Hobbs have a few pairs online, 50% ish wool mix.

Jaeger at M&S have actually got a pure wool pair of straight leg tailored trousers and a couple of other options. They've also got these which look like a nice mix.

In the past I would have relied on Autograph (pathetic wool % atm), Jaeger and Hobbs, years ago, Austin Reed (showing my age).
