Anybody else planning to start in September?

I’ve been procrastinating for months but decided to go for it despite the price increases. Waiting for my delivery from Medexpress and planning on 1st Sept start.

I found a calculator online and it was something like 1g per 1.6kg of body weight. Thats the only thing I've got a number for. The fibre i'm just playing that by ear. If im constipated, I know i need more 😂 i've noticed a difference already in that I only go once a day now rather than twice or 3 times but I guess i'm eating less and its better quality.

Unfortunately I think you have that the wrong way round! It's 1.2 to 1.6kg per kg of body weight. Quite tricky! I'm at least getting "more" than I was, so that's progress!

Georgelassosthemoon · 13/09/2025 18:26

I am feeling a bit nauseous today. Managed breakfast but couldn’t face lunch so tried a Huel shake. It was absolutely vile. I have had an apple, a pear and a tiny piece of Brie and an about to go and make a chicken curry so hope I can face some of that.

😅 sorry, I cant remember the numbers! Mine worked out around 92g each day so i've been aiming for that. I can't find the calculator i used now 🫠

I'm planning to jab on Thursday evenings too, because I work Tuesday-Thursday and I'd rather deal with side effects when I'm not working. Is this realistic? For those who've had side effects, are they worst in the day or two after injecting, or do they come later?

I think that’s very sensible. 👍

I’m on week 3 and this is the first week with zero side effects. I jab on Friday mornings usually and for the first 2 weeks, I had no appetite on the Friday and Saturday and I had a horrible headache in the early hours of Saturday morning so around 18 hours after injecting. I definitely felt much better by the Monday.

Chopsy123 · 13/09/2025 19:12

I’ve read the ingredients list on some of these protein powders and protein drinks as I need to increase my protein intake but they all contain artificial sweeteners which generally give me a migraine so I’m not going to risk it.

Also, some of them are bloody expensive!! What if you buy one and don’t like it? 😳

I wonder if they really make much difference as I’m trying to eat more healthily overall and ditch the crap convenience foods from my diet. Although, that’s not going to happen overnight. 😂

@Georgelassosthemoon For the last 2 weeks, I’ve been making chicken curry’s with the Aldi frozen butter chicken curries that have a bit of veg in them and a little bit of rice and adding extra chicken, onions and tomatoes.

Georgelassosthemoon · 13/09/2025 19:42

Sounds good @Chopsy123. I have a pretty failsafe curry recipe that only takes about 30 minutes so I made that. I’ll look out for the butter chicken. I managed half the curry and half the Naan.

The Huel shakes were on offer in Tesco at £3 so not too but I won’t try them again. I should have known better really as I don’t have much of a sweet tooth and it was very sweet.

I wonder if there’s a non sweet protein shake out there?

Try the Lidl ones - they're dirt cheap (just over a quid I think) , decent flavours, good protein and genuinely taste just like a milkshake. I don't like really sweet drinks and they're fine for me. I think there's 35gprotein in a small bottle which is pretty decent.
We get lots of them cos I have 2 adult sons who obsess over protein and gains and muscle stuff 😂
Bottle is recyclable as well if that helps 😁

UnimaginableWindBird · 13/09/2025 19:57

Huel do an unflavored and unsweetened version, but there is a pop-up warning before you buy it that most people don't like the taste.

Fourth jab due tomorrow and the hunger has hit. I've managed not to overeat today particularly, but can't tell if the medication is helping at all, as it's felt hard.

Up until today I'd planned to stay on the starting dose for my second month, but I don't know whether this would be mistake. Feels like I don't have enough info to go on either way!

Some people go to 3.75mg after the first month. I'm only due my second jab tomorrow so don't have to think about it yet, but if you're feeling hungry and needing to rely on willpower it might be worth going up?

SoUncertain · 14/09/2025 08:34

Week one check in: I lost 2.8 kg (6lb) this week :) I've eaten really well without trying, and haven't had any cravings for junk, which is even more exciting!

In terms of symptoms, I didn't feel much effect on days 1 and 2, but have not felt as hungry since then. I am really happy with the lack of food noise. I also felt quite nauseous on Thursday and a little on Fri and Sat too.

Hope everyone is having a good week too :)

outofofficeagain · 14/09/2025 08:53

That’s great @SoUncertain- sounds like it’s been a smooth road so far.

Who is everyone telling about the WLI, if anyone.

I have told my husband and DS (16), my hairdresser, my friend who is a GP and my friend who is also considering them.

I haven’t told my closest friends. Half of me thinks it’s none of their business and they will all arrive with their own prejudices, and the other half of me thinks I have nothing to be ashamed of and should just be open.

OP posts:
OneDayIWillLearn · 14/09/2025 09:11

@outofofficeagain I told my husband.

Otherwise I’ve not told anyone. Just before I started, a friend asked me if I would consider using them (I brought up the subject of needing to lose weight for my hips so I could start running again - a hobby we share - rather than her suggesting I needed to!). Her sister in law has had a very positive experience using them. So I said I was considering them yes, so if it comes up when I next see her in a few months, I’ll be honest.

Otherwise I think I’ll just judge it case by case. I wouldn’t want to lie if it comes up. I’ve done weight watchers a million times before and usually got to noticeable weight loss doing it so people might just assume I’m doing that again.

Stompythedinosaur · 14/09/2025 09:54

Hey, can I ask how often people are. Weighing themselves? I was going to weight once weekly, but I'm on day 6 today and gave in and weighed (have lost 5.5 lbs which I think is good). Does it matter how often we weigh?

Re telling people, I've so far only told dp and my dc. I'm trying to work out how I feel about it. Even though I think there are a lot of reasons I've struggled to lose weight, I feel like a lot of people still believe it's some sort of moral failing, and I don't want to deal with that.

SoUncertain · 14/09/2025 09:59

So far just my husband knows, but my sister and I have both been discussing WLIs in recent months so I will let her know I made the plunge. And probably my parents because my sister will surely mention it to them 😅

I don't think I will tell my friends though. I'm eating healthily and sticking to a calorie deficit, as well as exercising more. They don't need to know that I felt like I needed medication to do that. I guess I am a little ashamed I couldn't do it through willpower alone, but I know biologically it's almost impossible to do it that way, especially in the massively stressful couple of years I'm having.

I do feel one stress (guilt about not losing weight) has been removed though, which feels good 😊

Georgelassosthemoon · 14/09/2025 10:46

DD knows as we’re doing it together and DH and my best friend - she’s going to start herself after holidays. Not told anyone else yet though I think DH has been discussing it with his best mate.
I had to cancel lunch with a friend on Friday due to feeling yuk so I think I will explain to her eventually. I am definitely not telling my mother.
Not feeling quite so sick today. Had boiled eggs mashed with a bit of butter and salt for breakfast, delicious.

maz99 · 14/09/2025 10:52

Have to agree about artificial sweetener (especially sucralose), as I tried one of clear whey protein from the sample pack I ordered and it was very sweet... so much so that 1-2 hours afterwards I was thinking/craving about sweets to eat!

I've found another clear whey powder sweetened with stevia (which is a natural ingredient) and doesn't taste over sweet. So, I will give that one a try.

I went for a drink after work on Thursday evening (double flavoured strawberry gin & tonic) and dudn't feel for another one as I usually do. In fact, I just wanted a tall glass of water. Also, later on that night I didn't have any craving for munchies afterwards as I usually do after drinking alcohol.

@outofofficeagain I've told 2 close friends who were positive and curious, plus my DD(20) who just asked why. 😂

@Stompythedinosaur I weigh myself weekly on the day of my jab... although last week I ended up weighing during the week which confused me on my weekly result as I thought I only lost 0.8kg instead of 1.3kg. It doesn't matter how often you weigh, but I prefer not to as weight can go up and down a week... and I'd rather not see it going up (even though I know in my head it isn't necessarily a bad thing).

outofofficeagain · 14/09/2025 10:56

I have been weighing myself every day or near enough, mainly because I know my weight goes up and down so can see consistent direction rather than a once a week snapshot.

I’m conscious too that I lose weight in the first half of the week, then it plateaus as the jabs wear off and my appetite comes back, so it’s something to keep an eye on.

I'm also finding general ADHD benefits from Mounjaro.

I have told DH, who told our children, and my best friend because we discussed this together and started a week apart.

And I am currently weighing daily and recording my weight on Libra, which calculates a trending weight so smoothies out the bumps, and then doing an "official" weigh-in on Friday mornings.I prefer to weigh daily just to see all the crazy levels of fluctuation. This morning I weighed myself when I got up, and then I went downstairs and read a book for a while but didn't eat or drink anything, and then out of curiosity weighed myself after a poo... and I had somehow gained 1lb! So I feel that frequent weighing makes each day's number feel like less of a big deal.

Georgelassosthemoon · 14/09/2025 12:06

Haha @UnimaginableWindBird I did the same yesterday and was 2lb heavier.
I weigh every day at the moment. I’m trying to work out what has an impact and what doesn’t.

OneDayIWillLearn · 14/09/2025 12:42

@Stompythedinosaur I get on the scales most days but only write my weight down once a week.

I always used to only do it once a week when I did WW but I found it very high stakes! And even after a good loss often felt a sense of anticlimax on weigh in day which could lead to low motivation.

Plus as others have said it’s good to see the fluctuations and trends.

Boicsgoog · 14/09/2025 13:17

Just started, first jab last night.

Height: 5’ 3”
SW: 12s 10lb (I’ve lost 15lb in the last year)
TW 1: 12s 21b (puts me 29.9 BMI)
TW 2: 10s (healthy BMI 24.8)
TW3: 9s 10lb

Feeling ok so far. Only had a banana and some water so far today. Not feeling the hunger pangs. I’m usually a snacker and I’ve been out all morning so time will tell when I’m home. It’s the picking that needs to stop as ky meals are not too bad.

wodantimbercoaster · 14/09/2025 14:30

My husband and daughters know I'm on MJ, one of my friends knows and also my sister (as she had said she was going to do it with me but suddenly went very quiet on the idea after I ordered mine). I don't want my parents to know as they will probably assume it's a bad idea and very expensive and be opinionated, which I can't be bothered with. I'm not planning on telling other friends/family or any work colleagues at this stage. I've just made sure I've dropped into conversation that I'm on a health kick. Last time I successfully lost weight, no one even really noticed, despite losing 3 stone, so I doubt I'll get many questions anyway 😂 Although I would love to try and lose at least 5 stone this time, so we'll see.

Whichwitchwould · 14/09/2025 16:10

I've only told my husband and my sister. Both have been supportive. I have friends who heavily oppose WLI so I just dont want to get into it honestly. I already was exercising frequently and they know I've been on and off diets my entire life so maybe it will appear that one stuck. If they ask I wont lie but very much letting people make their own assumptions.

SerafinasGoose · 14/09/2025 16:25

Other than my husband, who is supportive, I don't intend to discuss this with anyone else but my GP.

Talking about diets all the time is boring for others. That's not to include here, as a community of people who are going through the same process and here for mutual support. These threads are invaluable - best of Mumnset.
