Anyone about to start their very first dose? ?

I'm feeling very full of nerves and butterflies this evening! I'm going to take my very first dose of MJ this evening before bed. I'm excited, but anxious too.

This isn't necessarily a thread about ongoing progress (as there are already a couple for people starting this month), but just maybe to support each other while we take that first plunge.

I'm going to wait until shortly before going to bed, and then I'll do it. I'm mostly nervous about how my body will react, and about side effects.

Best of luck to anyone about to start!

I've just started - injected my first dose. I have A LOT to lose but one step at a time. Thanks for the tips and advice.

Well done for taking the first step! Hope all goes well for you in the first few days post injection.

Hello well done everyone and welcome the new ones.

it’s my second weigh in tomorrow - I think this will be a small loss but I was way at the weekend and went to an all-you-can-eat buffet and drank quite a lot of rose - this would usually mean 5lbs on so may loss is good!

for those this little appetite suppression at first, I think a lot of the first month is just getting used to it and the real
suppression for most will be month two onwards.

Somethingsnapped · 03/09/2025 11:59

@Bigbus How did weigh day go today?

I just went out for a cooked breakfast with dh. Although I did feel hungry for it, I was only able to eat about half of what I'd normally have. Feel very full now!

SerafinasGoose · 03/09/2025 20:39

I feel full more quickly too. But I don’t stay feeling full for all that long. A couple of hours later I’m hungry again. I dislike snacking and prefer to eat three full meals to keep insulin stable. But I might have to adjust that.

Somethingsnapped · 04/09/2025 10:09

@SerafinasGoose I find a small handful of nuts a pretty good snack for inbetween if needed. A good dose of protein, and they definitely help to keep me going.

I think the main thing I learnt from reading the threads on here and talking to people who have already been doing this for a while is that it’s not a magic fat dissolver - I still need to be careful of my food intake, but this is going to help me stick to my plans.

Dangerous to me! I worry I would eat too many. I've also decided that I can simply not eat crisps again. If I don't start, I'm safe but if I do I'm at serious risk of bingeing.

Well, today is my day of reckoning. Next shot is at 6 pm.

SW: 14 st 12
CW: 14 st 7
Goal weight: 11 st 7

So 5lbs this week: probably the body letting go of water retention. Not getting excited about this yet, however. I've tried to increase my daily calorie count as I worry 1350 per day is too low. Should I even be successful in reaching my goal I'll never sustain weight loss longterm at that level. Also I'm wary of losing too quickly out of fear of hair loss. But I'm happy with that as a start.

I am not constantly thinking about food. I'm still quite full from lunch, even though I didn't feel I'd eaten enough to fill me at the time!

Bigbus · 06/09/2025 13:25

@SerafinasGoose 5lbs is great, well
done! I’d like to lose 2lbs a week consistently which would get me to my initial goal from here in 18 weeks. That would be mid-Jan. I’m sure there will be good weeks and bad weeks though that might be somewhat ambitious!

SummerDaysAreTheBest · 06/09/2025 13:42

How are you all feeling? Still dithering here.. 🙄

Hello everone

I took my second injection on Wednesday evening. I’ve had some mild nausea but manageable- I find chewing gum helps. I have some appetite suppression and feel quite positive but I do think the next dose up will be better. Like many of you, I was really anxious about side effects but I know loads of people who have done really well on it with hardly any issues.

@SummerDaysAreTheBest do
you still want the link to Voy? It’s more expensive than just ordering from a pharmacy but you get an app where you can log all your food and get loads of tips and inspiration and you also get a real life person to talk to every two weeks who will give you goals and advice if you want it. I’ll try to send you a pm with the link.

Thank you 🙏

Bigbus · 06/09/2025 14:36

@SummerDaysAreTheBest ive had some mild nausea the first few days after each injection but nothing too bad. I’ve also been quite tired but that’s been good because I’ve slept longer. I sometimes struggle with waking early in the morning so it’s good not to have that. I’ve had nothing like some of the side effects people have described.

Somethingsnapped · 06/09/2025 19:42

@SerafinasGoose 5 lbs is great! That's the same as me in my first week.

Also, snap about crisps. They are my downfall. I can get eat everything else in moderation except crisps. I haven't had any since I started on MJ for the same reason as you.

On another note, I've had awful diarrhoea the last 2 days. It's strange, as until now, I've barely had any side effects. This is the end of week 3. I don't even know if MJ is to blame. I was feeling very under the weather in the 2 or 3 days leading up to it. It's coincided with the kids going back to school, and feeling tired and a bit stressed. It's probably linked to MJ, but I don't know if it's the full story. It's been bad though, and I feel very drained.

Well, I took dose #3 on Friday evening. I've noticed that the hunger pangs are coming back and so is that strange phenomenon they call 'food noise'.

I'm usually staying within my calorie limit, but it's now more of an effort. Think I will certainly need the 5 mg in my next prescription.

Bigbus · 14/09/2025 19:14

@SerafinasGoose I am due to go up to 5mg on Wednesday. I was wondering if I should do it but I have also felt a bit more hungry this week so I will go up. I’m worried because I do feel a bit nauseous and maybe this will get worse but I take it on Wednesday evening and font work again until Monday so will be able to deal with it if it does happen.

Yes, I take mine on a Friday evening for the same reason. I've had fairly minimal side effects on 0.25 mg but I've seen the step up to 5 mg is a triggering factor for some. Wygovy apparently don't do the 0.37 (?) in-between dose.

Somethingsnapped · 15/09/2025 13:47

@Bigbus and @SerafinasGoose Could you count the clicks and do 3.75 ml or the non-MJ equivalent? I read on here people do that a lot in order to avoid side effects. There isn't an official 3.75 on MJ either, I don't think. People just count the clicks on the pen to give themselves a lesser dose.

I'm staying on 2.5 ml for my second month. I'm definitely hungrier in the 4th week (hardly any hunger at all for the first 3 weeks), but I still can't manage big portions, and I definitely get fuller quicker. And minimal food noise even if I'm hungry, so I'll stick with it. I'll see how the next month goes and if I'm still happy with weight loss. If not, i'll go to 5ml, but will do a 3.75 ml dose for a couple of weeks to start with.

Ah, is that how it works? Don’t know exactly how counting the clicks delivers the further half dose? I just turn mine one dial until I see two dots and then it delivers - wasn’t aware there might be any other way.

I know I sound stupid but I can’t quite work out how that works!

I've forgotten, are you on MJ or wegovy? Does your pen make a clicking noise as you turn it? I've never done it, but people on mumsnet talk about the counting the clicks method quite a lot to deliver the dose they want. Perhaps you could start a thread to ask how to do it exactly. Posters seem very knowledgeable!

I decided to go up to 5mg as I felt that the 2.5mg was wearing off. I think I’ll stay on this for two months because I want to see if the nausea will lessen and also I’m on holiday at the end of October so want to have less side effects then.

Somethingsnapped · 25/09/2025 12:26

@Bigbus How long have you been on 5 mg for? Did you go straight from to 2.5 or did you do a 3.75 dose inbetween? Let us know how you get on.

I'm on my second pen of 2.5 (week 6). It definitely doesn't feel as strong as it did, but it was incredibly intense to start with. Barely any hunger at all. I'm happy with how it's working now. I'm definitely getting hungry, but I can manage on much smaller portions, and I'm not getting any cravings for unhealthy food. I'd like to stay on 2.5 for as long as possible. That said, heaven knows if it's still working as I haven't weighed myself this last week. I decided to weigh myself monthly, rather than weekly, to avoid the cycle of weight/scales-related happiness or disappointment. I can lose motivation so quickly if nothing is happening or if it's very slow. Monthly, at least I can get a less uppy/downy picture of my weight loss, and hopefully see a bigger drop on the scales!

Hi @Somethingsnapped im doing ok on the 5mg, I took my second one last night. Then nausea remains but I’ve discovered it’s much better if I don’t drink wine (sad but true!). I think I’ll stay on 5mg for a couple of months as I’m going on holiday and don’t want to increase the side effects by going up just before I go.

Somethingsnapped · 25/09/2025 16:56

@Bigbus Thank you for letting me know how you're getting on. I expect I'll go up to 5mg eventually, but I'll probably do it in stages, as I'm nervous about the side effects some others experience when they up their dose. I'm glad it's going well for you. That's encouraging!

Hello
just wondering how everyone is getting on? I’m on 5mg and it’s really working. I do still feel nauseous for the first 3-4 days but the suppression is really good. I’ve lost 22 pounds in just over 6 weeks. In so pleased with how it’s going. I’m going to stud at 5mg for another month because I don’t want to risk the nausea getting worse.

HighHeelsHurt · 05/10/2025 09:35

@Bigbus i haven’t been back on this thread since i first started but started on the same day as the OP.
I’ve stuck to 2.5mg every week and so far lost 6kg (1 stone). It’s been pretty seamless and been able to eat a reasonable amount and keep on at the gym etc. This week I decided to go up to 5mg and to be honest the suppression is so strong I can barely bring myself to eat, I’m getting very light headed, feel sick and can’t maintain any workouts. I’ve decided to go back to 2.5mg and am going to look into micros dosing. I’ve only got 4kg to go to goal and then hoping I can wean myself off it completely. We will see!

Bigbus · 05/10/2025 09:47

@HighHeelsHurt sounds like you’ve done really well! I’m hoping that I can stay on 5mg with the same effects and not have to do up. I still have a lot to lose and think I might have to stay on a maintenance dose after I’ve finished losing as I have a history of boom and bust with my weight and would most likely put it all back on after stopping. I agree that the suppression and can quite something - especially 2-3 days after the injection. I have to remind myself to eat. It’s the oddest thing after years and years of constant food noise.
