Anyone about to start their very first dose? ?

I'm feeling very full of nerves and butterflies this evening! I'm going to take my very first dose of MJ this evening before bed. I'm excited, but anxious too.

This isn't necessarily a thread about ongoing progress (as there are already a couple for people starting this month), but just maybe to support each other while we take that first plunge.

I'm going to wait until shortly before going to bed, and then I'll do it. I'm mostly nervous about how my body will react, and about side effects.

Best of luck to anyone about to start!

Well done @Somethingsnapped thats a great first weight loss. I weighed today and I’ve lost 4lbs which I’m really pleased with because a bank holiday weekend would usually result in 4lbs on! The jab is due this evening and today was the first day I noticed the food noise came back looking forward to the next one tonight.

Hello @SerafinasGoose sorry to hear about your accident. I hope this goes well for you. Will you be able to start some gentle exercise? I used to run but I had a break and never went back and now I’m a bit too heavy for my ankles - hoping to start the couch to 5k again once a bit of weight has gone.

Somethingsnapped · 27/08/2025 11:41

@Bigbus Well done! That's a great result. And yes, you're right, even better after a bank holiday week. Yay!

Those sound great losses. Mine arrived in the post today but I'm going to have a very careful read before I start, which I'll probably do tomorrow.

As a result of having had lung emboli my major fear is blood clots, which are an increased risk with these meds. But those were provoked by surgery and a week's complete immobility. I've flown long haul and had further surgery since, and ensured I did what I could to mitigate the risks: drinking water constantly and getting up to move around every hour. When I weighed the risks vs. benefits I'm at increased thrombosis risk at this size anyway, so I figure it's as long as it's short. But I'll be very careful and be sure to watch for the signs.

Thanks @Bigbus. Yes, now the rods are out and I can move without being in agony I can do moderate exercise again. I always kept up the swimming, but could only do breast stoke because I couldn't lumber twist. Now I do what I always did before the accident, which was alternate a length breast and a length crawl. I always do 64 lengths.

I'm also using my exercise bike daily and doing a bit of resistance with dumbbell weights.

Slightly nervous about the side effects, so will spend my evening doing a bit of reading and get started tomorrow.

How did it go?

It went ok, not had any side effects so far. Have not felt hungry at all. I know its working in regards to my diabetes as not had a hypo since I started it and I normally get them everyday.

SerafinasGoose · 27/08/2025 16:57

Bit shocked to discover my provider wants a blood sample from me - self-done! Don't know how on earth I'm going to do that. Even medical professionals struggle to get blood out of me. Has anyone else encountered this?

Edited: I've read the instructions and my heart has slowed down a tad. It's a finger prick test. I had visions of them wanting me to pop veins - blood and needles I can take but the vein-popping bit, no! Note to self: RTFM.

SummerDaysAreTheBest · 27/08/2025 17:38

Thinking about ordering.
I’ve been really worried about the side effects but I have 3.5 stone to lose in order to be a healthy weight and it’s just not happening.
I go to the gym, I eat healthy low carb food, I am on tonnes of supplements for perimenopause related symptoms and I just keep hearing about how life changing the jabs are.
I’d like to start mounjaro as I think it has less side effects… which jabs are you all on? Can you recommend an online pharmacy?

@SerafinasGoose Oh, thank goodness it was just a finger prick one! I could feel my blood pressure rising on your behalf then!

Hello! You have a similar amount of weight to lose as many of us on this thread. I thought about it for ages too, but I've only been on it a week, and I'm already so glad I started. 5 or 6 lbs down, pain in knee gone, better mood!

I'm on mounjaro. I ordered from Oxford online pharmacy. I've only had to order one pen so far, as I've only just started, and I ordered before the news broke of price increases, but they have been great, and super helpful thus far. I don't know how they're coping with their stock levels, as I haven't attempted to order my second pen yet.

I'm too new at this, as I'm only starting my first dose tomorrow. A friend of mine who lost 4 st on WLI recommended Numans, so I'm giving them a go.

I’m doing Voy because a friend recommended it to me and gave me a discount code. It’s not the cheapest but you get a lot of extra support. If anyone wants it I think I can send you a link to get £50 of your first order but it is a bit more expensive than others.

ButterfliesnWaterfalls · 29/08/2025 08:35

Week 1 and haven’t lost any weight even though I have been eating considerably less. I feel constipated though and bloated. Anyone know what will help with this?

Thanks @Bigbusa code would be great. How much is the first dose?
What is the support you get?

SerafinasGoose · 29/08/2025 12:27

First day today (gulp). I've lost 2lbs in the past week before actually starting the jabs. This is much less than when I've done Harcombe previously - as soon as I adopted a clean diet I could lose as much as 1/2 a stone in water retention.

But at least it's a start.

One thing's apparent from before I even take the first shot. Weight loss demands bloody hard work and a lot of commitment, with or without the meds. WLI seem to me a 'prop' to help whilst we adjust lifestyles, eat fewer UPFs and purge ourselves of our binging habits/sugar addictions. I've seen the many complaints that this is 'cheating'. But if it gets the results I don't care. I've reached a point now where I'd try anything.

Are you eating plenty of fibre? I'm making sure I eat plenty of veg and fruit with each meal. I'm also avoiding carbs. Could you try those fibre gummies that are supposed to help with it. You could start a thread about it actually, as I've seen plenty of recommendations on other threads... I just can't remember what exactly. But there will be some pretty knowledgeable posters who will reply to you quickly.

That's so weird... Why was my reply hidden? I was just replying to the poster who mentioned constipation!

All I did was give a couple of ideas, and suggest the poster start a thread about it, as there will be plenty of knowledgeable posters on this board. Why on earth should mumsnet hide my post??

I think the word gu**ies triggers MN to delete and check posts OP.

I’ve asked about mushroom ones before snd my thread got automatically deleted then came back.

Oh really, why is that? Am I being innocent and naive about something? 😆
