Anyone about to start their very first dose? ?

I'm feeling very full of nerves and butterflies this evening! I'm going to take my very first dose of MJ this evening before bed. I'm excited, but anxious too.

This isn't necessarily a thread about ongoing progress (as there are already a couple for people starting this month), but just maybe to support each other while we take that first plunge.

I'm going to wait until shortly before going to bed, and then I'll do it. I'm mostly nervous about how my body will react, and about side effects.

Best of luck to anyone about to start!

First dose just taken!

How's it going at the moment?

I took it at 6pm and have been fine up until now thank you! Hope that continues into tomorrow. I’ve restarted the vit d tablets at the same time - I can expect joint pain without this. Hoping that will now improve.

I’m drinking water as though it’s going out of fashion so will probably spend half the night on the lav! That always used to happen on early diets when my body let go of its water retention - no sign of that as yet ...

@SerafinasGoose I hope your first night went well, and that you're feeling good this morning too.

Feeling no different at all! The dose is gone so must have been administered correctly. But I have heard side effects can happen when the dose is increased.

Not saying that I want them, mind!

Great that you have no side effects!
What about hunger levels?

Admittedly not hugely suppressed. I was ravenous by lunchtime. But I’m keeping careful track of those calories.

SerafinasGoose · 31/08/2025 12:24

Just posted this on September starters:

Still no side effects to report, but at least one positive effect of the Wygovy seems to have kicked in! By lunchtime today I was starving, so made bibimbap for lunch: 2oz brown rice uncooked weight, en egg, some chicken and a combination of veg. Total calorie count including any cooking oil, 720 (just over half my daily allowance).

Less than 2/3 of the way through I felt the 'full' signals. I've been warned ahead of time that when you get these, stop eating otherwise you'll make yourself feel really uncomfortable. So I saved the rest to have as a side to dinner.

A week ago I'd have hoovered the lot. No question. Regulating food intake and stopping when full has never been a skill I've mastered particularly well.

So I see that as progress! This is one habit to maintain when I (hopefully) reach my target. The other is to have UPF foods in extreme moderation.

I ordered Mounjaro about 4 weeks ago then they announced the price changes so I haven't started yet.

I've decided to bite the bullet and go for it this evening. Does anyone have any recommendations of vitamins/minerals or supplements I should be taking in addition to jncreasing my water, fibre and protein?

I've had this thread on watch ad it looks really encouraging ☺️

Edited to add: or is there a thread I've missed that has an idiot's guide to getting starred?!

My supplier (Numan) has an app with a QR code that leads to instructions on administering the shots. I usually search these things out on YouTube if I don't have immediate access. It's quite difficult to get wrong: just clip in the needle and secure it, turn the dial to the two dots, it shows up as 2.5 mg dose, then inject (painless) and hold for 6 seconds before removing. The chamber containing the dose should now be empty and your pen should show 0.

I take year-round Vitamin D as a matter of course now. I have painful joints without it. Nothing else at present, so hopefully someone else will be along to advise.

Good luck with getting started on your journey. I'm days in, with an extra few days of eating a healthy diet before starting the shots, and I feel better already!

Good luck! I dithered around for ages before making the decision to start, but I'm already so glad I did. Honestly, I feel fabulous on it.

I saw a thread on this board about tips for new starters, although forgotten what it was called. It was within the last few weeks though. If you have a scroll, you'll probably find it, or plenty of similar ones.
I'll try to remember the best tips I read. Besides the water, protein, fibre thing, posters recommended avoiding fatty or spicy food, as it can lead to nausea.
Plenty of water helps avoid nausea too, as does peppermint/fennel/ginger tea. Peppermint oil capsules to help with any gastric issues or sulphur burps (I don't get these though) And eating 3 meals a day, even if they're tiny and you don't feel like it. I followed those tips when I was a bit nauseous to start, and it helped a lot. The nausea didn't last long though. I get none now. Previous posters also have good recommendations for constipation too. But I'm eating so much fibre, I've managed to avoid any problems there! Personally, I'm avoiding carbs mostly, especially bread.

Some posters take multi vitamins. I don't, but I do take vitamin D, and iron (prescribed as I'm low on it). I also take Biotin and Zinc for my hair, and marine or bovine collagen. Please do ask if you can think of anything I might have missed!

@ThePainGrowsStronger P S. Would you like to share how much weight you want to lose? My bmi is about 32 (closer to 31 now after 2 weeks on MJ!). I'd like to lose about 3 stone, which would take me to a bmi of about 26 (I'm tall, fairly sturdy bones and athletic/muscular and look/feel slim at that bmi).

Hi all hope I'm OK to join in. I am almost positive I m going to inject today 🫣. Looking forward to following long with you all.

I am in the same position as @ThePainGrowsStronger with dithering, so much so the 2.5mg pen I purchased is almost due to expire! so now or never I guess.

I am really worried about side effects, I will do anything not to vomit it's almost a phobia hence why I've not started yet... But nothing ventured nothing gained 🤞

I am short and need to lose 3st to get to a weight I feel comfortable, but any loss seems to show as a short person. 🙏

Anon1231990 · 31/08/2025 16:39

Forgot to say, I know everyone is just starting, but any feedback on my food plan would be very much welcomed 🙌

Image pending review 😁

SerafinasGoose · 31/08/2025 16:58

I've ordered the peppermint capsules: thanks @Somethingsnapped as I dread the idea of sulphuric burps - they're awful!

Anon1231990 · 31/08/2025 17:57

Thank you @SerafinasGoose I have just placed an order, along with a miriad of others fibre, biotin, zinc, magnesium, b6, b12 gummies. No I just have to remember to take them. I had already stocked up on peppermint tea, ginger biscuits, lemon and ginger tea. 🤞🤞

Also did the first injection! Can confirm everyone is correct and it did not hurt at all.

Somethingsnapped · 31/08/2025 18:05

@Anon1231990 Welcome! I say just take the plunge and go for it! I felt the same as you... So dreadfully nervous about side effects amd feeling ill. But honestly, it's been great. I woke up feeling quite strong nausea the first night after I injected, but I took a rennie, and it settled down after that. Very mild nausea only after that, the next day or two. And then no nausea at all, not even straight after the second injection.

Just follow the tips others seem to suggest for avoiding nausea. They did work for me!

Thanks @Somethingsnapped you are of course completely right and I've done it 🙌 only way out is through now. Fingers crossed I am not on of the unlucky ones and I can get this weight shifted

Bigbus · 31/08/2025 21:20

Hello everone

I took my second injection on Wednesday evening. I’ve had some mild nausea but manageable- I find chewing gum helps. I have some appetite suppression and feel quite positive but I do think the next dose up will be better. Like many of you, I was really anxious about side effects but I know loads of people who have done really well on it with hardly any issues.

@SummerDaysAreTheBest do
you still want the link to Voy? It’s more expensive than just ordering from a pharmacy but you get an app where you can log all your food and get loads of tips and inspiration and you also get a real life person to talk to every two weeks who will give you goals and advice if you want it. I’ll try to send you a pm with the link.

How is everyone doing?

End of week 2 weigh-in today. I've lost 1.5 llbs this week, so that's about 6.5 together. I'm also in the middle of my period.

OP posts:
SerafinasGoose · 02/09/2025 11:51

I woke up with quite a bad headache this morning, and had a small amount of dizziness yesterday (until I ate). I've drunk what feels like litres of water.
I also have a period today and it's a nasty one, which never helps.

I can't say I've felt a huge amount of appetite suppression. But when hunger does start to kick in, I get really starving. I suspect I went a bit overboard on my portion sizes yesterday, although I didn't eat anything unhealthy.

Not my weigh-in until Friday and I'm resisting the temptation for a scales-peek. I suspect with the period bloating I won't like what I see anyway!

hardtocare · 02/09/2025 12:43

Can I join you ladies? First pen just arrived but thinking I’ll start tomorrow as haven’t had the healthiest start to the day. Praying this works for me

Somethingsnapped · 02/09/2025 16:24

@SerafinasGoose Hi again (waves from the other thread)!

Yes, I'd wait for official weigh day if I were you. I'm being very strict about only looking once a week. I'm in the middle of my period at the moment, so I guess my 1.5 lbs loss this week isn't too bad.

Hello! Yes, please do join!

Best of luck for tomorrow. I bet you'll feel amazing once you kick start it all. I was ridiculously nervous before I started, but I felt on a bit of a high all week after I took my first dose. How much are you hoping to lose?

ThePainGrowsStronger · 02/09/2025 21:11

I've just started - injected my first dose. I have A LOT to lose but one step at a time. Thanks for the tips and advice.
