Anyone about to start their very first dose? ?

I'm feeling very full of nerves and butterflies this evening! I'm going to take my very first dose of MJ this evening before bed. I'm excited, but anxious too.

This isn't necessarily a thread about ongoing progress (as there are already a couple for people starting this month), but just maybe to support each other while we take that first plunge.

I'm going to wait until shortly before going to bed, and then I'll do it. I'm mostly nervous about how my body will react, and about side effects.

Best of luck to anyone about to start!

I have ordered mine and will take the first one on Friday. I’m also very verbose although I have friends who have lost loads with few side effects everyone on here seems to have been sick!

That's good to know people around you are doing well on it!
On mumsnet, from what I've read, most people do seem to get a little nausea to begin with, but not too many posters with really bad sickness. Fingers crossed!

I'm wondering about migraines and headaches. Some people say they're better after starting, some people say they're worse. I'm nervous about that, as I'm prone to very debilitating headaches.

I took my first dose in the morning as I knew I wouldn’t sleep if I did it just before bed. FWIW I was fine and only very minor side effects (dry mouth and constipation).

good luck!

I’ve taken my first dose today! I’m a few hours in and feel very slightly fuzzy round the edges, but not sure if I’m just looking for after effects. Not hungry at all: I’ve eaten dinner and ate less than I normally would and am neither full nor hungry. It didn’t hurt to inject at all either. I think I could have really deliberated about doing it, but thought sod it you’ve already made the decision so just do it. Let me know how you get on!

Thank you! I will definitely let you know.
I'm going to do it last thing before bed. Mainly because I want my husband to be around for a while afterwards, even if he is asleep!

Yes let us know how you get on. Mine is arriving tomorrow but I’m not sure if I should take it tomorrow night as I have work on Wednesday and it’s a busy day plus a commute on the tube!

MoreIcedLattePlease · 18/08/2025 22:47

Me! I was approved with Juniper today - thank goodness I’d started the process before the madness! I can afford it (the lower doses) for now, but I’ve had to cut back on every other luxury I have for myself (nails, M&S food, facials, skincare). Hopefully I’ll be able to add some things back in as I stop spending on crap food!

I haven’t told a soul yet. Not even DH. I know he’ll be supportive, because he would support me in absolutely anything, but I’m just not ready to share yet for some reason. I don’t know why?!

Quite nervous about the actual injecting, and I have no idea when the stuff will arrive yet. How do you decide what day of the week to inject?

Somethingsnapped · 19/08/2025 10:34

I took mine late last night, straight before bed. I decided to take it early in the week, so that it may have worn off a bit by the weekend, and I can relax slightly. I was so nervous! Worrying about an allergic reaction, side effects. We'll, I'm still here this morning! I slept badly as I was so excited/anxious. I woke up about 3am, feeling very nauseous (the nausea even came into my dreams), and my heart sunk that I'd be one of the unlucky few who'd be very sick on it. However, I took a Rennie, and it seemed to help. This morning, I feel quite good. Very slight nausea, but barely anything.

Normally I do intermittent fasting, and don't eat til lunch, but based on advice from my provider, and from mumsnet, I'm going to aim for 3 small meals a day now. Apparently that is best for steady progress, and to combat nausea. So I've made myself a small bowl of porridge, with half a banana, and a sprinkling of walnuts, for protein.

@MoreIcedLattePlease I'm sure you'll tell your dh when the time is right. It's good to have the support at home. I told my dh before I started, and it's good to have someone who I can talk to in real life. He helped me inject last night, as I needed the moral support. Not about the needle as I have no problem with that, but just general nerves. The needle was tiny and barely felt it, by the way

Good luck everyone! I feel good to have taken the first step! My bmi is 32, and I'd like to lose about 3 stone. But I'd be delighted with any progress at this point! I'm going to weigh myself once a week.

Yes, I know what you mean! In your case, maybe waiting til the weekend would work. I waited to take my mine, for a few days as I had friends staying at the weekend, and didn't want to risk being ill while they were here.

I'm sorry you feel rubbish. People are, recommending peppermint or fennel tea. Worth a try? Maybe try to eat something small too, as that is also supposed to help nausea.

Also remember that is is common to feel bad at first, while you're body gets used to the drug, but lots of people say it settles down after a few days x

Sorry, I should have made it clear, I’ve been on it since April. Have now lost 17kg and feel amazing. Limited side effects. Only gone up to 5mg too.

I wonder if your nausea was just the anxiety rather than the side effects. Well done anyway- here is the start of a new you!

Oh well done, that's amazing! It's so exciting to be at the beginning of this journey and hearing about others' success. Thank you for sharing.

I don't think it was the anxiety (although that can't have helped) because it was quite strong and seemed linked to heartburn and it came into my dreams and woke me up. I think it was just a reaction to the drugs hitting my system. The nausea itself made me even more anxious, but it settled down anyway with a rennie! Really not bad today. Here's hoping it continues as manageable as this.

Oh thanks for updating. I’m feeling perfectly fine after taking my first jab last night. I’m not in the slightest bit hungry but had some Greek yoghurt, a few nuts and some berries. I do feel like food has lost some taste (in the 2 meals I’ve had so far!) and it’s not going down either. It feels kinda stuck before my stomach- not nausea but just a weird kind of full. It’s so strange as I have gone from thinking about food quite a lot to thinking about how much I’m not thinking about food all the time!
I’m completely not hungry. I work out a lot anyway and am just so excited for the fat to melt away and my muscles to start showing themselves!
Off for a run now to see if it’s impacted anything there- I do feel quite tired and dry eyed but I think I’m just over thinking everything atm waiting for something bad to happen.

Somethingsnapped · 19/08/2025 17:20

@HighHeelsHurt I know what you mean about going from thinking about food, to having a different kind of preoccupation. I'm the same, but in a slightly different way. Normally I don't think about food all that much, but now I find that I am! Trying to make sure I properly plan what I eat etc, and the rest of the time, I'm analysing my (lack of) hunger levels etc.

As for the strange full feeling, are you drinking plenty of water?

OP posts:
HighHeelsHurt · 19/08/2025 19:17

@Somethingsnapped yes plenty of water too and I have electrolytes too. I actually think I have just over eaten (or had too much) of my smoothie.
Ive put my eating diary into ChatGBT and it seems good. I’m planning on very little portions every few hours - totalling about 1000- 1400 calories depending on if I’m training and protein rich. I am working to small targets - so hoping for a 10kg loss which seems impossible and then see where I am with skin looseness etc. I’m so hopeful this will work: it will change me life

Bigbus · 20/08/2025 07:59

Hello @Somethingsnapped how are you feeling today. I have decided to start tonight! If I don’t chicken out 😂

Hello @Somethingsnapped how are you feeling today. I have decided to start tonight! If I don’t chicken out 😂

Hi, and good luck!! I definitely recommend just going for it. I feel great today actually. I slept really well last night. I woke up with a few waves of mild nausea in the night, but it passed quickly. Today I just have the mildest sensation of not quite nausea, just enough not to bother me, but to know it's working!

Yesterday I ate 3 extremely healthy meals, with no carbs, just focusing on protein and fibre. Today I look so much less bloated, so am wearing a dress I feel like I can't usually wear!

I say bite the bullet, and just do it. I feel so positive about this. Please let us know how you get on. Sending you good vibes!

OP posts:
Somethingsnapped · 20/08/2025 10:47

@HighHeelsHurt yes, perhaps you just ate a little too much. I have been very surprised how full I feel so quickly, but the fullness feels different to normal, like a heavy compact sensation in my stomach. I experimented yesterday with portion size, taking little breaks to analyse how I felt! I did have an appetite to eat, especially dinner in the evening (smoked salmon and salad), but was definitely satisfied on surprising little. I wasn't in the least tempted to snack.

Im also doing the small portions every few hours thing. Before MJ, I was doing intermittent fasting, but based on advice, I decided to eat 3 small meals a day. It's funny making myself eat breakfast when I'm really not hungry, but I only have something small. This morning, a cup of tea, half a banana and a boiled egg.

Hi @Somethingsnapped, glad to hear you're feeling good - well done you for wearing a dress!

I have decided I am going to take mine tomorrow evening. I have work tomorrow, and I don't want to risk feeling really rubbish, especially as I have to drive there. Friday I can stay at home as much as I need if it goes a bit pear-shaped!

It's interesting to hear how many people's 'full' feels different. Very intruging!

Somethingsnapped · 20/08/2025 21:49

@MoreIcedLattePlease That's a good idea. I made sure I had a day at home following my first injection too. It'll help you feel less anxious too, knowing that you don't have to be anywhere, while you're adjusting to the medication.

Best of luck!
