Anyone about to start their very first dose? ?

I'm feeling very full of nerves and butterflies this evening! I'm going to take my very first dose of MJ this evening before bed. I'm excited, but anxious too.

This isn't necessarily a thread about ongoing progress (as there are already a couple for people starting this month), but just maybe to support each other while we take that first plunge.

I'm going to wait until shortly before going to bed, and then I'll do it. I'm mostly nervous about how my body will react, and about side effects.

Best of luck to anyone about to start!

So I’ve done it! I realised I was just finding reason after reason to postpone it. Let’s see how it goes. I’m just planning to pretend I’ve got a hangover (I’ve had a lot of those in my life!). Good luck everyone x

ButterfliesnWaterfalls · 21/08/2025 08:32

Great thread! I did mine an hour ago and feeling so nervous and anxious! First injection of 2.5mg and I have 3 stone to lose!

Bigbus · 21/08/2025 08:35

I also want to lose 3 stone - I slept really well last night so let’s see how today goes. I’m actually feeling quite excited as well as nervous - so many people say it’s changed their life.

Somethingsnapped · 21/08/2025 11:29

@Bigbus and @ButterfliesnWaterfalls Well done both for taking the plunge! It's good to get the first one done, and to then know how it's going to affect us. Let us know how you get on over the next day or two.

Like you both, I have 3 stone to lose. So it's nice we are starting at the same time, on the same thread. I said at the beginning that this wasn't necessarily a thread to track progress as there are others, but actually I think it would be nice to have a smaller thread where we can check in with each other!

I feel super positive too. I am eating incredibly 'cleanly', just healthy whole foods, avoiding carbs. Making sure I have protein and veg/fruit/salad at every meal.
Also, I have had some pain in one of my knees for months now (I do heaps of walking), and it's gone since taking MJ! Probably to do with reducing inflammation in the body.

I am interested /excited to do my first weigh in next Monday before taking my second dose. I'll definitely report back!

Best of luck to you all on this pretty exciting journey.

I‘M feeling quite good so far. Hungry but not bothered about it if that makes sense? I took DS13 to the seaside today so it was a long day but I felt fine, a bit nauseous on the way home. Theme park tomorrow! That will be a test.

I also think it would be nice to have a smaller thread if others are interested.

Good luck everyone!

Somethingsnapped · 22/08/2025 22:34

@Bigbus Yes, I do know exactly what you mean! I had no appetite at all for the first 3 days, but today, day 4, I've been feeling pretty hungry before meals, but as you say, not bothered about it. That's interesting. Still feel satisfied on smaller amounts too.

Have a lovely day tomorrow. I'm away with my family this weekend, so it's quite nice the jabs are wearing off a bit. We went out for a lovely meal, and I ate delicious food, but still avoided the carbs. Had a glass of wine too!

Loobylu66 · 23/08/2025 05:53

I am about to have my first jab tonight. My GP prescribed for me yesterday (for diabetes) and she advised me to have the jab just before bedtime.

Bigbus · 23/08/2025 12:53

@Loobylu66 i had mine just before bedtime on Wednesday. So far so good - no real side effects. Good luck!

WhiteAmaryllis · 24/08/2025 10:58

Just took my first one this morning. Think I've bruised my leg (found it needed more pressure to push the knob in for a full dose than I expected!) and feel a little apprehensive that it's in now and can't be undone side effects or not!

I tried mysimba first because I thought I'd handle tablets better and they'd be more discreet, but after two the nausea was unbearable for days, so hoping this was the better choice.

Somethingsnapped · 24/08/2025 19:26

@WhiteAmaryllis How are you feeling now? I felt exactly the same as you when I took mine a week ago. I lay there waiting for possible side effects that I knew I couldn't then undo. If you do feel nausea, don't panic! I felt quite strong nausea the first night, but I took a rennie and I felt mostly better after that. No troubling nausea after that except for a few waves during the night on days 2 and 3. Then nothing.

After a week, I feel great. 3 days with no appetite except slightly for my evening meal. Hunger started to come back on day 4, but only to the extent I really enjoyed meals, felt full on smaller portions, and didn't feel tempted to snack. Really happy so far!

I hope you’re all doing ok. I’ve had some
mild nausea and last night felt a bit rough but that may just be tiredness and doing too much. I’ve had good appetite suppression today so I’m hopeful this will work. My friend who is about 3 months ahead of me said that by week three she started to get full up after really small amounts. She’s lost over 2 stone!

Somethingsnapped · 25/08/2025 11:12

@Bigbus I've read back on loads of threads where people are weeks or months ahead of us, and loads of people report nausea at the beginning, but it seems to go away once our bodies adjust to the drug.

I feel hopeful about this too. I've done my first week, and will weigh myself tomorrow morning. I'll report back!

OP posts:
Bigbus · 25/08/2025 11:28

@Somethingsnapped are you keeping to a specific diet or just try to eat less? Snacking and pouring size are my biggest downfalls. Sp
far I have managed to reduce snacks to a minimum and reduced portion sizes and really reduced carbs. I think partly it’s the effect of the drug and partly I’m determined not to waste my money!

SerafinasGoose · 25/08/2025 14:09

I've just bitten the bullet and placed an order. Now need to wait for this to be approved via GP. 3 stone for me, too. Very much hope I can join you presently, if that's okay.

Somethingsnapped · 25/08/2025 16:38

@Bigbus ha ha, I know exactly what you mean. I was just saying the same thing to dh; that I wondered what percentage was good suppression and what percentage was a kind of placebo effect of not wanting to sabotage the effort that not only is costing a lot, but also involves using a strong medication. I'd say the beginning of the week is more the effects of suppression, but as the drug wears on towards the end of the week, the opposite!

I'm sticking to a specific plan. I'm not counting calories at all, but I've dropped carbs almost entirely (wheat based carbs anyway... I do have the odd bit of porridge, or potato or oat cakes sometimes). I've only had one slice of bread in the last week. So I'm sticking to just protein and salad/veg/fruit. I've had lots of eggs, nuts, fish, meat, a little cheese. Entirely dropped anything like UPFs, cakes, sweets, crisps. Just focusing on whole foods. I didn't want to snack at all the first few days. I've been hungrier the last couple of days, but only snack on an apple or a few nuts. Despite feeling hungry, I'm not craving anything unhealthy. I am really enjoying what I'm eating though!

I did have some home-made pizza last night, but only two small slices, with veg sticks and houmous and olives.

Welcome! It's nice having a thread where we're all starting out at a similar time.
I'm 5'8", with a bmi of 32. I'm looking to lose about 3 stone, which will take me to a bmi of about 26 I think, so although technically I'd still be in the overweight category, I'm tall and quite big boned, and quite muscly legs, so I look healthy and slim at a bmi of 26, size 10/12.
Currently I'm about a size 16.

I hope you’re weigh in went well @Somethingsnapped

I had a good weekend and am all set for the week ahead. I will weigh in on Wednesday morning as I took the first dose on Wednesday evening.

I am 5’5 and size 18-22 (top
half much bigger than bottom!). I’ve got near to a normal BMI befriended but my boobs are big so it doesn’t really work for me. If I lose 3 stone I’ll be comfortable and I’ll see where I am.

Somethingsnapped · 26/08/2025 09:40

@Bigbus Yes, boobs can definitely make a big difference. Technically I'm pear shaped, in that I'm a size 14 on top, size 16 bottoms, but I often need to size up with tops or jackets, to do up over the boobs.

So, I just weighed myself and I've lost 5 or 6 pounds! I know it won't (and shouldn't) continue at that rate, but it's great to have a boost to kick it all off! Having followed other threads, it does seem that the first week can have a big whoosh effect, and then it steadies to an average of a pound or two a week. I'm pleased as I was away on holiday for the last weekend, and definitely ate more than I had been doing earlier in the week.

Somethingsnapped · 26/08/2025 09:44

Just to say, by the way, that I started out at a size 18 over a year ago, but I lost some with intermittent fasting. It then plateaued for a long time, and that's when I started to consider WLI. So this journey has been going on a while already!

I have felt brilliant this week. More energy than normal (my dh noticed too). Enjoying food more, more positive, more patience with my children, and overall better mood. Anyone else noticed anything like this?

SerafinasGoose · 26/08/2025 09:55

Well, my GP approval was very quick off the draw. I'm to take Wegovy. A bit concerned that I've read the side effects can be brutal, but for the moment at least the cost is more realistic than Mounjaro.

I gained three stones following a spinal fracture which left me with restricted mobility and large rods in my spine. The rods were removed a few months ago and I'm struggling to rebuild my exercise as I still have residual muscular pain. But I've been working gradually on that. My 'new' status of becoming breathless far too quickly horrifies me: the rods reduced my lung capacity too, as I couldn't take a full breath. It was much like the pressure on your diaphragm when pregnant.

I hate that I've got into this state but efforts to reduce my weight have been so much harder than they ever were previously. Doubtless the perimenopause is to blame!

I'm hoping ordering repeat prescriptions will be simple via the app. Really excited to begin now. I want the old me back.

Somethingsnapped · 26/08/2025 13:40

@SerafinasGoose Wow, you've really had a tough time. I wish you all the best starting this new journey. Hopefully soon you'll start feeling much better, and exercise will get easier too as weight comes off. My weight gain was a lot less dramatic than yours, but accumulative over 4 pregnancies. I'm looking forward to feeling more like my old self too.

I hadn't heard that about Wegovy amd side effects. I read yesterday, according to one of the online pharmacies, that Wegovy wasn't quite as strong as MJ, and people noticed milder side effects. I hope your experience is positive. There will probably be quite a few of us switching to it if price hikes force the hand. Don't panic if you feel rubbish to start... It seems that it's often temporary as the body adjusts to the drug. I felt pretty sick on MJ to start, but it didn't last long at all. A few hours really. I took my second dose last night, and feel great so far (and 5 or 6 pounds down!!)

I used to do the Harcombe diet. In my younger years this was effective for me, which is why I was dismayed when the old methods ceased to work. I could easily see off 5-6lbs in half a week using this method, but now the scales are simply not shifting. I'm not doing anything differently.

But basically this is a clean-eating diet, without any processed food and I'll probably return to it whilst I'm on these shots. I've joined the August thread too but will continue to post on both.

I used to ride, and was a lot fitter only three years ago, but it was a riding accident that caused the fracture and I doubt I could have ridden with the rods in if I'd wanted to! (I didn't. That experience was enough to make me quit - not least because I was nearly seen off post-surgery by a massive blood clot in each lung).

Rooting for you.

Somethingsnapped · 26/08/2025 14:57

@SerafinasGoose God, that's horrible. What an experience. No wonder you were put off riding. I take it you came off the horse badly?

I'll look up your old diet; it sounds interesting. I think the clean eating sounds very much like what I'm drawn to now too. It's a shame it stopped working. I guess as you mentioned, perimenopause can have an effect. My intermittent fasting stopped working too. Although I did manage to keep off what I'd already lost. I just wasn't managing to lose any more.

I'm glad there are a few of us on this thread that have roughly the same amount to lose. It'll be interesting and motivating to compare notes along the way. I haven't posted properly on the August starters thread yet, although I've posted a couple of times on another one that sprang up about the same time.
