Big price increases?

Anyone else seen this chatter about massive price increases announced for MJ (to pharmacies) in the last hour or so?

Very concerning as it looks like it could double the cost of some of the doses. I'll try to find the copy of the letter sent out...

You don’t need a personal trainer to have a healthy lifestyle though.

People are being very rude and nasty to @TheQuirkyMakerbut from what I’ve read, there are an awful lot of GPs who agree with her and who don’t believe that weight loss jabs are the answer. Just one example:

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/jun/26/nhs-gp-weight-loss-jabs-quick-fix-obesity-better-food

If the skeptics are proven wrong, and weight loss jabs become a roaring success for the NHS, then I image that they will be rolled out more widely in years to come, but at the moment, a lot of doctors still believe that weight should be lost the old fashioned way

Of course you don’t need a PT, but a PT isn’t a cheaper option than GLP1 medications, which was the specific point of Quirky’s that I responded to.

Sandunesandseashells · 15/08/2025 03:25

MJ for me has been cost neutral because I’m buying minimal food.
Medexpress has indicated they will keep the price down as long as possible so I suppose it depends on how much stock each company holds. I ordered a week early yesterday and have since received a 15% off link for my next order from them.
For those doubting the prescribed status, every one of my orders has been shared with my GP by Medexpress and my current weight / MJ dose every month is included in my NHS app health record of medications.

That was the choice of the pharmaceutical companies. Why is it reasonable for people in the US to pay such higher prices?

But people in the USA have higher wages. The price of everything is more expensive in the USA than the U.K.

I read an article about groceries in the USA a while ago that said a lettuce was $11. Should Trump insist our lettuces are put up to £11 even though our wages are half of what an a American in a similar job would earn?

Companies set their prices to their respective markets based on the capitalist idea of trying to make as much profit as possible. So what is the max price that market can afford /pay before sales are affected. Americans can afford more as they earn more. You’d have thought Trump would understand that. People in the uk can’t afford the same as our wages won’t support it. This will really affect the uk market.

BlueLimes · 15/08/2025 05:55

Same people not on WLI being quite frankly awful - says a lot about them as people.

Why do they even frequent this board - can’t miss up an opportunity to be sanctimonious and judgemental I guess.

Such expert advice to move more and eat less 🙄

Smallsalt · 15/08/2025 01:17

The US prices aren't coming down though so they have gained nothing.

Are you really churlish and petty enough to think that the rest of the world should suffer because of the greed of American insurance companies?.

It’s a shame when people can’t discuss this important issue without resorting to personal insults.

Why on earth would you think it's ok to 'be on it for life'
Completely defeats the objective of learning calorie control and proper nutrition whilst on it to reach your goal.
As a diabetic I am pleased it's going to be harder for the general public to get it. It's medicine for goodness sake. Even getting it with my GP I had to commit to scheduled blood tests and full health checks to keep me safe and healthy on it. Those wanting to take it for life because they can't learn some control is ridiculous

This is quite hilarious given the first line treatment for type 2 diabetes is diet related. Oh and that it’s mostly preventable, and often reversible in its early state. Well done there. Well done.

Mich57 · 15/08/2025 06:37

I've just had an email from my supplier confirming price increase 😞

Braygirlnow · 15/08/2025 06:54

SaintAgatha · 14/08/2025 23:06

Did you ChatGPT that? 😅

No i copied and pasted it from the article that was released explaining why the price was going up. If people here bothered to read it they may find why its going up, but I suppose most don't want to understand, they are too busy panic buying.

NeelyOHara · 15/08/2025 06:55

So it’s fallen into line to what the rest of Europe have to pay? That seems reasonable doesn’t it, why should the UK pay any less?

Braygirlnow · 15/08/2025 06:59

IrisPallida · 14/08/2025 22:24

Have you googled yet? - Ah I forgot, you haven't worked out how to do so yet.

Lilly stopped UK pharmacies exporting stock overseas months ago.

They banned it months ago, but the problem still exists because of illegal sales.

Lampzade · 15/08/2025 07:00

My mother is on Mounjaro . I actually pay for her prescription so I am very invested in this thread .
I will continue to pay for my mother’s prescription ( despite the increase in price) because I have seen a drastic improvement in her physical health and mental well being
However, I am shocked by the nastiness of some posters who appear to be thrilled at the thought that others will be priced out and as a result will not be able to access WLI.
Weight loss envy is really a thing . The envy comes from those who are overweight and cannot afford the medication /cannot take it for medical reasons and from slim people who are upset that they no longer have the ‘monopoly ‘ on being slim and want the ‘fatties’ to get fat again

I can't believe how many passive aggressive comments, from people who CLEARLY aren't on MJ, are on here.... 🤬
Go away!!!!

85reasons · 15/08/2025 07:03

Reading this thread and the inevitably gleeful fat haters crawling immediately out of the woodwork to gloat about the price rises remind me exactly why I stopped reading the WLI board.

Just goes to show you how many miserable people sit there scrolling on a daily basis shaking their fist at the sky while tutting repeatedly about us terrible fat people with no self-control stealing drugs from the poor diabetics. This news has really made their day!

Don’t worry, us greedy fatties will find a way to continue injecting ourselves with the filthy life saving medicine. We might be lazy and have no self-control, but we’re quite cunning.

Who is your supplier please? Being able to use clearpay would be really good for me. Thanks

It's The Family Chemist

WeAllHaveWings · 15/08/2025 07:09

TheQuirkyMaker · 14/08/2025 23:39

No, I am trying to learn. I struggle to see how people can afford, I don't know how much, £100+ per month on a medication? But can't afford a healthy lifestyle. I'm not mocking, I know how social factors like being low paid and living in a run down place with loads of takeaways can cause MI issues and obesity.

This is very obviously not the thread for that. Try google ffs, and if you really need to, start your own thread 🤦🏻‍♀️

LifeOfAShowGirl · 15/08/2025 07:09

Could people who have had price increases confirmed please share what they are priced at? Would be useful for the rest of us to know what to expect

I've just paid £138 for a 5mg from chemist4

Sorry - edited. They aren't giving out hiked prices yet...

ApolloandDaphne · 15/08/2025 07:18

its on the BBC news website. Could be price hikes as much as 170%. I'm glad I'm planning to stop after this month.

MynameisJune · 15/08/2025 07:18

Seeing all the faux concern and the gleefulness of posters who are happy that people will no longer be able to access WLI truly is just mind blowing.

I honestly can’t believe people are that bothered by what others do with their lives enough to come on a thread like this and gloat.

Mich57 · 15/08/2025 07:20

Is there a wegovy pricing list from suppliers floating around? I'm thinking to switch if the price of MJ is not affordable 😭

Presumably the same haters who were gleeful at VAT on PS fees.

The bitterness must eat away at them from the inside.

This is the price for Wegovy on Medexpress.

Here you go: https://click.compare/wegovy/

AhBiscuits · 15/08/2025 07:25

When I was on Wegovy I didn't need to go above the 1mg dose, I got to goal on that.

Edited

Two companies did lives last night.

MMP gave firm written numbers in their TikTok live chat that they’ve decided in from 1st Sept - don’t know how they’re been able to confirm so quickly.

2.5mg £137
5mg £178
7.5mg £215
10mg £239
12.5mg £251
15mg £271

Oushk (Hira) verbally said they are thinking 2.5mg will be around £150-160 and 15mg will be around £320-330 but stressed this was still to be confirmed when they have negotiate with Lily.
