Big price increases?

CoverMeInMarmalade · 14/08/2025 11:45

Anyone else seen this chatter about massive price increases announced for MJ (to pharmacies) in the last hour or so?

Very concerning as it looks like it could double the cost of some of the doses. I'll try to find the copy of the letter sent out...

If people are concerned about money couldn't they just eat less? Or am I missing something about the MJ fad?

For the love of God, can someone please, please make the stupid stop?

Perfectly happy to get grief from pointing out the staggeringly pointless, and potentially harmful, posts by some posters.

In other news, I've just had a glance at the C.I.A website so I think I'm probably in with a shout at becoming the next Director of Homeland Security.

Which is nice.

Considering you like “factual” information, the director of homeland security is not employed by the CIA.

But I’ll concede to your point so you feel super empowered.

I was annoyed, but now I’m actually quite amused that so many people are willing to make themselves look like ignorant fools just so they can have a pop at overweight people.

Yes, correct. I was just making a fatuous observation that had virtually no bearing on this thread. Sound familiar?

I think what its saying is, if you want to use this product and medically you dont need it, then you're going to need to pay.

There are alternatives for those of us who want to shift a few pounds, but anyone who is obese may be able to get a prescription soon if they cant already 🙏 i say that cos my friends GP wouldnt prescribe it for her even though she was a size 24+. She paid for it herself and is now a size 14, with excess skin removed she'll be a 12. I'm proud of her - she put on weight over a very short period due to cancer treatment - it's cost her quite a lot over 12months to shed it but good she did it in 2025 cos lord kniws how much utd cos in 2026...

No, that’s not what the price increase, or anyone with even a basic understanding of the situation, is saying.

You already need to be obese to have it prescribed privately (or just below obesity if with relevant comorbidities). No one can get it prescribed legally to “shift a few pounds”.

The NHS criteria are stricter still due to the massive cost of prescribing it for everyone who would qualify medically. So that’s morbidly obese with four out of five specified comorbidities. There is no indication that this will be significantly extended any time soon.

Why would you even comment when all you can share is guesses and misinformation?

No I am not stupid and I am also obese by my BMI. I am desperate to lose weight.
What I mean is, if someone can afford MJ (I can't) surely they can afford a personal trainer, gym membership and healthy food (which costs more than junk food).
When I get my weight down enough to feel fitter (I am very slowly heading that way) I'm planning to join our local running group, which is free.

SaintAgatha · 14/08/2025 23:06

Braygirlnow · 14/08/2025 22:21

Having a significantly lower price in the UK than European countries encourages other entities to export UK supply to those countries to profit from the price differential. Although this practice is banned to protect supply for UK patients, Lilly are aware of attempts to circumvent the export ban. Illegal exports could jeopardise patient safety by compromising the supply chain and Lilly are taking all means possible to protect UK supply for UK patients.

Did you ChatGPT that? 😅

When you’re obese there’s a lot more to weight loss than that. Hormones play a huge role, for a start. The jabs help regulate those.

YourRareTurtle · 14/08/2025 23:07

I've just had an email from my supplier saying Ely Lily are capping their supply for next 2 weeks until new prices come in.

Big price increases?

Eli Lilly sounding like a bunch of cunts.

Any reason why your responses are so rude?

Strangerthanfictions · 14/08/2025 23:20

SilenceInside · 14/08/2025 11:59

If this is correct, and prices are going to be raised steeply especially for the higher doses, then Eli Lilly will be pricing huge numbers of people out of the market and reducing their sales dramatically. Is that really what they want to achieve?

Does the list price mean the price that it will actually be supplied to pharmacies at?

But they have a much wider NHS market now that they are prescribing so will get huge block sales from there presumably and arress reliant on their private customers so can price hike

The number of people eligible on the NHS is tiny though.

Hardly anyone qualifies for it for weight loss on the NHS

And do please explain how a personal trainer and healthy food sorts out the endocrinological issues of those of us with metabolic diseases and the like?

Is said personal trainer going to train my lipoedema inflammation to just behave itself and stop and the salad sort my hormonal profile to regulate my PCOS by giving it a Paddington hard stare or something? Or do you genuinely think that a lot of us using the jabs have never considered eating less or going to the gym over the past, in my case, 40 years or so and you've just come up with the cure for obesity? if you're not stupid then you're doing the most amazing impression of it right now!

Genuine people, with feelings, are on this thread are concerned a life saving medication will no longer be affordable to them and you post this? They are concerned a prescribed medical treatment that is changing their lives for the better, resolving serious diseases, serious mobility issues and extending their lives will now be out of reach and you come here to mock them.

Seriously go and have a hard look at yourself in the mirror and try to work out wtf is wrong with you. Such a sad pathetic post. Pity talk guidelines don’t allow me to fully show my disgust and contempt for you.

threeeggsontoast · 14/08/2025 23:32

For those who might struggle with the extra, it might be helpful to work out how much longer you’d like to be on it and then set yourself an end date. Mine is Jan 1 2026 (just over 6 months). Knowing I need to stick it out for just 6 more months hella me budget and is psychologically helpful.

No, I am trying to learn. I struggle to see how people can afford, I don't know how much, £100+ per month on a medication? But can't afford a healthy lifestyle. I'm not mocking, I know how social factors like being low paid and living in a run down place with loads of takeaways can cause MI issues and obesity.

You think people are obese because they can’t afford a healthy lifestyle? 🤦‍♀️
How do you think Mounjaro addresses this cause of obesity then?

Because, as several people have said, obesity is more complex than you seem to think. Hormonal issues cannot be solved just with diet and exercise. Read some peer reviewed science on obesity and you’ll see that boiling it down to eat less, move more is facile.

MisseyLurker · 14/08/2025 23:46

I don’t think this has come as out of the blue for pharmacies as we think. I had forgotten to reorder earlier in the week so did it last night and weirdly I wasn’t allowed to order more than 1 pen when I’m usually allowed up to 3 and I also wasn’t allowed to order a 5 and a 7.5mg, just one or the other.

My prescription has been approved but I’m waiting on it being dispatched. It’ll be interesting to see what the 1st brings,
although I’ve just read on another thread that some pharmacies are already increasing pricing.
