Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

Day 2 I can feel a bit of nausea creeping in. I planned my meals in advance because I go off food completely when I have nausea but it is very difficult getting it down. 🤢

user17294 · 08/08/2025 10:00

Has anybody had insomnia? I did my second jab yesterday and for the past week I’ve been unable to get to sleep until about 3am, it’s killing me!! Really hoping it’s something that will go away as I don’t want to have to stop the jabs

When my toddler wakes me up, it's been taking me hours to fall back to sleep. I've been awake since 3am this morning.

Weighed this morning after the 1st week and have lost 7lbs. I had to check it 3 times. Have felt a bit sick on and off during the week, but drank more water and that seemed to cure it - obviously I'm not drinking enough. Haven't really been calorie counting, still had a couple of glasses of wine at the weekend with no issues.

First couple of days were difficult, felt a bit torn between knowing I wasn't supposed to eat because it's a "diet" and knowing that I have to eat, but am not thinking about that as much now. Have really just been cutting down the portion sizes, more veg and less carbs, and no snacks. I even had some fruit, which I normally couldn't be fussed about.

user17294 · 08/08/2025 11:38

@Rorpethyyeh I find the same, if I manage to get to sleep I wake up again in the night and can’t get back off

mounjaring · 08/08/2025 11:44

Worst nights sleep ever last night, but it's 11:45am and aside from a collagen coffee I have sten nothing since 7pm yesterday, and I am not remotely hungry

this is very odd in itself, as I am such a binge eater

reluctantbrit · 08/08/2025 12:01

Lost another 2lbs, quite happy with me. I just ordered my next pen, asked to go up to 5mg as I found that I do get hungry by day 5 now.

I hopefully can also be more active as my leg injury is healing. But I am really glad that I have only a passing interest in anything sweet which is my biggest downfall so I hope I can use the supression to re-learn a healthy relationship with chocolate and cakes.

Bluefloor · 08/08/2025 12:13

I’m on day 7 today, and feel absolutely starved 😬 haven’t had much symptoms and wasn’t sure it was working for me. Will weighing tomorrow and see how I’ve got on.

Rorpethy · 08/08/2025 13:05

I've just eaten lunch, a smaller portion than normal but bigger than I've eaten since starting. 10 minutes after finishing, it's as though it's expanded in my stomach and I feel so so full and sick. I won't be making that mistake again!

mounjaring · 08/08/2025 13:06

I am about tonexperience the same I think, a healthy chicken salad, but I sense it won't agree with me, we shall see

Gettingonwithgettingon · 08/08/2025 13:26

I also feel really overfull after a normal/small lunch today. The exact same thing happened last Friday - I think based on my sample size of two weeks (!) the suppression seems to peak 3 days after the injection for me

jan2310 · 08/08/2025 14:47

I'm on W2 D3. I had bad side effects for the first 2 days in W1 (stomach pains, nausea, dry mouth, terrible thirst) so expected something similar in W2. I lost 4lb in W1 which I was happy with as I'm trying to eat sensibly, something I can maintain. Porridge for breakfast, chicken salad or similar for lunch and a normal dinner, as healthy as possible. I haven't given up alcohol completely and went out for meals on Saturday and Sunday. Unusual for me to do both but I ate normally, I just made sure I ate less and didn't eat more than I needed. So I was very happy with 4lb loss.

I was looking forward to the second jab as I definitely felt the suppression had worn off. Different side effects this time, I went from feeling quite positive about everything to my mood plummeting within an hour and I felt very depressed all day. I also had blurred vision for a day, but nothing else. From day 2 no side effects at all.

The difference this time is that I'm not feeling any discomfort or appetite suppression. I woke up feeling hungry this morning. However I've been careful not to overeat.

I'd hoped to stay on 2.5mg for a while, but think now I might need to move up a dose after 4 weeks. I'll be interested to see how much I lose this week!

Really enjoying everyone's updates, it's so helpful and this thread is definitely helping my motivation.

Really pleasantly surprised by Mounjaro which I started earlier this week.
HbA1C estimate ( using Libre Sensor) has already reduced by 2 units and I have reduced insulin.
Possibly eating less too ( less food noise? )
Some side effects- feel bloated and stomach pains.

SweetDreamsAreMadeOfCheese87 · 08/08/2025 18:44

Hi all, this is just what I was looking for. Somewhere I’m anonymous 😂😂
So I did my first injection Tuesday lunch time, proud of myself as I was 💩 scared and I can’t say I enjoyed it!
Anyhow, all is well. Eating less for sure, no snacking at all, no cravings… apart from a fizzy drink or a lime and soda! Also are we not supposed to drink squash? I really struggle with water plain! Has anyone tried drinking fizzy? Maybe I would like it anyway as things seem to taste different/stronger flavoured?! Anyone else or am I an odd one!
Good luck all 🩷

mounjaring · 08/08/2025 18:48

i just have incredible thirst, I have always struggled to drink enough and I'm on day 2 and my fluid intake is huge compared to normal.

Food wise, I've been at work and all I have had today was the M&S Naked Chicken Kebab salad, which for 270 calories and 21g protein is pretty good.

it's so hard to find food on the go that's actually nice/easy and healthy, I reckon I'll eat this every time I go to the office now 😋

I'm still drinking sugar free squash, this is a good question, anyone know?!

Oh I had not heard that I’m drinking fizzy water with squash because it is settling my tummy.

I love that M&S chicken salad, it's my go to too @mounjaring .

I've been amazed how thirsty I am too, I've always struggled to drink much water in the past but since starting the jabs I am drinking non stop as I'm jusy so thirsty, at the start I was waking at night thirsty too. I've just had my 3rd jab today and my thirst is settling a bit now, I'm still very thirsty but it's not like it was at the start.

Hopefully someone is wiser than we are about this 😂 someone said something to me about nothing with sweeteners so assumed Nas squash and a Diet Coke are out of the question 🥺

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 08/08/2025 19:49

I am drinking 2.5-3L of sugar free squash a day and it seems ok so far.

mounjaring · 08/08/2025 20:48

I think it's probably fine, as diabetics can drink it

Rorpethy · 08/08/2025 21:12

I'm drinking sugar free squash too as there's no way I'd be drinking enough water if I didn't. I don't see why it wouldn't be okay.

mounjaring · 08/08/2025 21:25

I was really surprised at how little the injection hurt, didn't feel it at all.

i inject another medication in a pen and that stings like a bugger.

i have to say im not really having much in the way of side effects today, day 2

AsteriaBuffy · 08/08/2025 21:44

@jan2310 my experience has been v similar to yours :)

W2 D3 now, side effects much less than last week, can drink fizzy drinks, don't feel nauseous or burpy. Some appetite suppression- easy to resist snacking and large meals.

Alcohol is easier to drink but not so tempted to go mad with it. Am working on better habits for moderate amounts.

TheArtfulCrow · 09/08/2025 06:39

First weigh in today. First week done already.

SW: 14st 7lbs
Cw: 14st 3lbs
GW: 10st

Im happy with that ☺️
