Hi everybody! I haven't posted on Mumsnet for YEARS, but I thought it might be a good place to get a bit of a community feeling going.

I'm starting Mounjaro on Saturday 3rd August. It's arrived today but I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, and then we are on holiday for a week. It felt like it made sense to get started when we got back.

I've done the entire yo yo dieting thing before. SW, WW, Noom, Intermittent fasting, Keto, Exante, clean eating... the lot.

And I'm just so tired. I have also started to talk to a therapist about food as well. It became very clear to me that my issues with food are around stimulation/boredom etc. So, while I was a bit anti injections, I am thinking that it might be worth giving them a try just to see if it helps block that route, and allow me to find something else to fill that stimulation gap.

I go to the gym twice a week, I do yoga every week, I run and just did a 5k recently (slow but steady). I work at a desk though and not in a position to easily get 10k steps in a day.

My dh is very, very, very, very anti. He is very old school and of the "well just don't eat junk", "just run 10k", "that's cheating". We had a chat about what I was uncovering about food and my feelings the other day and he just seemed to get annoyed with me about it. He is also the one harping on about being healthy and living longer.

So now with that I feel like I need to prove him wrong now, lol.

I'm currently 94kg, 5 foot 6... my lowest since I was in my early 20s was about 72kg. I lost that doing keto, and then maintained going back to regular eating going the gym, but then Covid happened.

Anyway, long post but looking forward to sharing journeys and support :)

We’ll be starting the same week@RalphtheMouth, I’m away on a trip so I’ve got it waiting in the fridge. Not sure if I should take it Sunday night or Monday afternoon. I’ve read somewhere that it might be better to take first dose in the daytime so you are aware of any side effects rather than trying to sleep through them.

What the heck is the click chart all about?

I’ve told various friends and close family about taking Mounjaro.Friends are either on it or thinking about going on it. Family concerned!

The click chart is for working out getting other doses out of a pen for example if someone doesn't want to go straight from 2.5 to 5 if you do 45 clicks of a 5mg pen that gives you 3.75 as an interim dose. Or some people will ignore the 30 day rule and do 30 clicks of a 5mg for a 2.5 dose as while 5mg pens are more expensive they are not more expensive than two 2.5mg etc

I'm W2 D5 too and feel so hungry today. I was out most of the day and didn't have a proper lunch and it's really messed up my eating. I had an ice cream and too much coffee, just making a decent dinner now of fish, new potatoes and veg but I expect I'll end up feeling sick if I try to eat much.

I re-checked my calories and was really low. I have spaghetti and fish tonight, that hopefully will put me back on track.

@Maplebean this classification is new to me too. I think that private companies in US have "tests" which I haven't seen described in details anywhere yet.
Current research shows that mounjaro is most effective with #2, gut-type overeaters. Maybe you are #4? The slow burn phenotype has been characterized clinically by low muscle mass and abnormal metabolic rate. Do you know your body composition?

My digital scale actually says my muscle mass and bone mass is optimal. However it says low protein and low BMR. So maybe I need to try and get more protein in. Food for thought though thanks. I may get my thyroid checked as I don’t think I’m any of the other types.

What is the 30 day rule ? Looking at that click chart can you tell me how many clicks for 2.5ml. When I first injected I really thought I had clicked too many times and still didn’t see “1” in the window so I tried to backward click !!! I don’t understand that chart ? My loss is amazing. Every day it’s more. 12 pound in 12 days !

tiggyc · 05/08/2025 15:05

@BluefloorI feel exactly the same! I just can’t be sure that I feel any different 🤔 I have been sticking to a deficit but I feel like that’s more me being determined than the jab itself!

@Bluefloor @tiggyc - I feel exactly the same. Started Sat 2nd, but don't really feel much of an affect. Had a little bit of a headache once or twice, but tbh I get headaches occasionally anyway if I'm a bit tired or dehydrated etc. I've been eating well and drinking lots all week, so I think any weight loss will be down to that and not the MJ as such. I have felt hungry quite a few times this week, but am just trying to stick with the healthy program and hoping the MJ kicks in soon. x

The advice is the pen must be used within 30 days of the first dose and obviously micro dosing or counting clicks, most people are using them longer.

A full dose is 60 clicks so on a 2.5mg pen that would be to 1. I don't think you can go past 60? The plunger is only so long? People who are getting bigger doses out of smaller mg pens (because they bought/stockpiled them then went a dose need to do more than one injection i believe)

I probably should have said that I haven't tried any of the above. Just read about it lol I've only done two jabs myself.

justjuggling · 06/08/2025 21:27

Evening! I weighed myself today, at the of the first week - down 4lbs. Was hoping for more really but a reasonable start. And then didmy second jab. I haven’t really felt any less hungry this weekend, not felt full at all. Wonder if o need to go up to 5mls after this pen. Is that quite common, moving to a higher dose only a few weeks in?

I think technically 2.5 is a initiation dose to get you used to the meds and 5mg is the first therapeutic dose based on the clinical trials which is why most people move up from to 5 after the four weeks. (Though some people have good responses and stay on 2.5) After that there seem to be different approaches with some people going up to get to a higher dose quickly and others staying on doses until they feel they need to move up. (And it varies if people are buying themselves from pharmacy or with somewhere that provides more guidance)

timestressed · 06/08/2025 21:42

@Maplebeanlow bmr makes sense. It means thst you burn fewer calories than average to sustain basic daily functions. Good luck with working out how to change that.

AsteriaBuffy · 06/08/2025 21:57

Well after 2nd dose this morning I was expecting to go back to how I was a few days ago re appetite suppression, but not so far! Appetite pretty much back to normal, bit of a headache but no burping, nausea etc. On the positive side more energy, will see how it goes tomorrow.

Was hoping to stick at lowest dose for at least a couple of months but maybe not if the effects wear off this quickly. BUT tomorrow may be different!

That’s really helpful, thank you! Shall continue with this pen then go up to 5 mls for the next one I think. 👍

Hi @Pollypot25 - I hadn't heard that regarding the time, I was thinking to jab about 7 in the evening. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Maplebean · 07/08/2025 07:36

Am on day 6 of second injection. Down 1.5kg now which is a bit of progress. Injection still in effect as only able to stomach a sip of coffee.

Had some not so nice side effects this week including bad fatigue and awful indigestion. Plan for next week is to go back down to half the lowest dose and try some weights to increase my metabolism. Oh and drink more water.

user17294 · 07/08/2025 08:04

Morning everyone, hope everyone’s week is going well!
just about to do my second injection so thought I’d do my first weigh in this morning:
sw: 12st
cw:11 st 7lb

So lost half a stone in my first week. I’m guessing that’s just water weight but I’m really happy with it. I know the losses will slow down now. I’ve had a really good first week with enjoying the new way of eating and not too many side effects from the jab, just hoping I won’t get any this week!

Booksandcheese · 07/08/2025 08:24

W1D4 yesterday I was wondering if the appetite suppression was all in my head but by the evening I really didn't want to eat. This morning I've had to force my breakfast down and I feel uncomfortably full. Hopefully a nice long walk with the dog will ease the discomfort. No other side effects for me.

sausagesandwiches · 07/08/2025 09:05

2nd weigh in for me this morning, 3rd jab tonight

lost 2lb so 8lb in the 2 weeks

I’ve had to have a word with myself about not being disappointed with 2lb as I know that it’s good

Asda are reminding me to order my next jab but it has a delivery date of the 12th which is far too early and I don’t want to be storing it in my fridge

I’ve also not fully decided if I want to stay at 2.5 or move up
I’m feeling that I’m noticing being full but other than that I’m not getting any side effects-I’m definitely still hungry before meals

I’m on my period at the moment and usually the 2 days before and the first 2 days I eat ALL the sugar and I’ve not done this month so it’s definitely doing something

DandelionPockets · 07/08/2025 09:10

So I wanted something sweet after dinner last night and so went to the cupboard and got the biscuit jar out. Proceeded to take out one biscuit, put the jar back in the cupboard and sat down and slowly ate my biscuit.

This is HUGE for me. Past me would have eaten 3 biscuits straight out the jar, and taken 3 more to eat on the sofa. Magic liquid is working and helping mindset shift.

DandelionPockets · 07/08/2025 09:13

@sausagesandwiches 2lb is definitely really good - it adds up quickly over a month! Pick up something that weighs 2lbs and that will help the mindset!

reluctantbrit · 07/08/2025 09:14

Next jab is tomorrow and like last week I start to get hungrier again.

good news - I learned already to make decent choices with breakfast like yoghurt, oats, chia and a bit of honey or fruit. In the past it was a slice of toast and a snack an hour later.

Will go out to dinner today as we have musical tickets and chose a Turkish restaurant so plenty of grilled protein

I've got my 3rd jab tomorrow @sausagesandwiches and asda have just sent me a reminder to reorder too. Like you I don't want to be storing it in the fridge so I'm trying to work out when is best to place the order so that I can collect it as close to needing it as possible.

I lost 7lb the first week and think it will be 2-3lb this week.

I'm feeling awful today and not feeling like eating at all. I had a really heavy period the first week and now I think I have another one coming, awful cramps etc. (the joy of perimenopause I sometimes have periods every other week then none for 6 weeks).

I found the same last week @reluctantbrit that a day or two before the next jab I was noticeably hungrier. Enjoy your meal out this evening 🙂

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 07/08/2025 10:16

W2 D3 and realised last night the difference in my approach to food is unrecognisable.

Yesterday I had clear protein for breakfast with electrolyte tablets then yogurt, chia seeds, nuts, fruit and a little honey for brunch.
Full afternoon at the Edinburgh Fringe where we were stopping for ‘coffee and cake’ - I happily had my flat white as always but no desire for cake whatsoever. I took a ‘date bite’ (date stuffed with 5g peanut butter and a pecan nut) in the car and had it before the drive home.
Came home and happily cooked fajitas for the family without scoffing biscuits in the kitchen like I would have before.

I used to tell myself ‘I need a sugar hit as I’m tired/starving/cant possibly wait for dinner’ yet by eating properly, exercising and staying hydrated on this jab I’m absolutely fine and more energised.

AsteriaBuffy · 07/08/2025 10:47

Is everybody measuring as well as weighing?

I've lost an inch off my 'waist' and also around my belly after 7 days, despite only losing 1.5 lbs. Very pleased at this as my pot belly is my most hated result of weight gain - I was always very bottom heavy but pre-meno at least had a flattish tummy. Apparently monjaro works well on visceral fat so fingers crossed.

mounjaring · 07/08/2025 11:06

OK - it's arrived, I used OnlinePharmacy, arrived next day delivery

read instructions and just bit the bullet and injected

god speed lol

Hi all - joined mumsnet to join this thread! So nice to have a community of people starting together.

I had my first injection last Friday so first weigh in tomorrow and already nervous of taking my 2nd dose. Overall the appetite the nausea and dizziness have been manageable for me but on day 3 I came out in an awful reaction on my face and neck like sunburn. My face had improved since then by my neck is still really sensitive like prickly heat. Has anyone else had this?

I’m really worried it will get worse with my second jab. I had contact dermatitis a few years ago from a reaction to sun cream and there’s no way I could live with that - I really need and want this to work 😫
