New thread.

First post re: lifting heavy.
I mentioned on the other thread about lifting heavy for 6-8 reps and I was told it was bad advice. Clearly it’s not my advice made up by me - it’s from world leading female health doctor expert Stacey Sims. There is plenty online from her (loads of podcasts) so have a listen. I’ve been lifting this way for 3 years since the outset of menopause symptoms, on her advice and I have significantly increased muscle size and strength. She also has written a couple of books which are excellent.

Clearly this can only be done with good form or it will lead to injury. Either use a PT (as suggested on the last thread) or use the resistance machines in the gym which basically lock you into the correct position.

I’ve just moved supplier even though my BMI is under 27 now. I emailed them to explain that I was looking for a maintenance supplier etc

Its called Swift doctor, I found it on the Monj website.

I told them I started at BMI 27 with PCOS and high cholesterol. I showed them evidence of my previous prescription and explained BMI now around 26.

i also explained that once I reach target I’ll want to order ad hoc.

I don't have PCOS any more, or high cholesterol though. I've ordered again from medexpress this morning. They've approved it already and it should be with me over the weekend

That's really helpful to know, thanks

I haven’t had any PCOS symptoms for a long time but in order to qualify with BMI of 27 needed a health risk so I ticked it. In the end, SheMed did a blood test and actually I have high cholesterol… so I didn’t need to tick the PCOS box.

Either way, the point was that I qualified at the outset not that I qualify now. I have emailed them, and set it all up so I can order from them next time.

Anyone else suddenly got a lot of bruises they can’t remember getting?

Yes!!! I noticed this today. They are only small but I’ve got about 5 or 6 of them. I don’t remember bumping into anything, they just seem to have appeared from no where. I never linked it to Mounjaro…

Sux2buthen · 30/07/2025 17:11

@CookieQueen1986i may well just be noticing them more because I’m on the lookout for any problems. Could be something, could be nothing.

Emmeline50 · 31/07/2025 02:08

Mind if I join you?

I had my first shot on 18 July and am W2 D6. I have been pretty lucky so far and have had minimal side effects. The first week I had brutal heartburn and pretty strong suppression. No heartburn this week and the suppression has dropped a bit but any desire I had for junk food has died.

I have a boatload of weight to lose. I started on 107kg and my goal for now is 90kg (I will revaluate my next goal once I get there). I haven't lost any weight this week but I am not letting it get me down. I have started strength training and I am feeling so good! My energy is coming back and I am bouncing around!

I can really see how much the deck was stacked against me for losing weight before this. I didn't understand how much food noise I had until it was gone!

Edit to add that I lost 1.5 kg in the first week

DabOfPistachio · 31/07/2025 07:20

Updating after my first full week. It has been very interesting in how i have reacted to it.

Dose is 2.5
SW: 116kg
CW: 113.7kg
GW: 75kg

I was very nervous about side effects and but have not really had anything.
I took it at night and felt positive effects from the next day.
I struggle with binge eating and compulsive eating. I've been fighting it for years. I go through periods of trying incredibly hard to eat healthy and not give in to the cravings but its almost a full time thing, and I don't usually last more than a few weeks at most.
But straight away, that was gone. Just gone. I could still feel hungry but I actually wanted the healthy stuff and didnt want to eat junk.
First dose was a Weds night and I could feel it starting to wear off by Sunday, managed to eat well Mon and Tue but had the compulsion return with a vengeance last night and ended up substantially overeating.
I took my second dose slightly after.
This morning, I feel slightly queasy like I over ate last night (which i did!) but normally I'd just be hungry again and trying to force myself to eat something small and healthy instead of having a big breakfast.
It's early days for me but it seems to completely remove the compulsion from my eating. Its been quite extraordinary. It completely changes how I think about food.
It felt like a reset. I can't explain how much I loved not having that constant pull that I know I have to fight. It feels like a weight has been lifted.
(Interestingly, a close friend has been on for a while. She didn't start feeling suppression until 7.5 dose although it positively affected her blood sugar levels earlier on and she had unpleasant SE first few weeks. I have heard anecdotally that it can feel a bit slower to kick off for people with diabetes)

That’s really amazing for you. I know some people do split dosing where they take half say on Sunday and half on Wednesday so maybe that will help you, or it might just be that a higher dose will help. I know what you mean about food noise, I’ve not got much to lose but, whenever I have dieted before it’s taking every thought for the whole diet to stick to it, and now it’s just easy. I’ve managed to get into most of my clothes after only 4 weeks! So it would be easy to say, why not just do it by diet and exercise. And the answer is that I have tried that since January and I can’t (harder since menopause despite being on HRT). Either way I’m so happy for you.

Just had an other weigh this morning and I’m down over a stone now! I’ve also lost 2 inches from my waist and my skirts and trousers (I tend to wear high waisted everything) are falling down from my waist!
I moved up to 5mg this week and aside from a bit of bloaty tummy and a headache this morning (which went away with paracetamol) I’ve not really had any side effects. Which is great as I was a bit nervous about moving up.

Radioundermypillow · 31/07/2025 08:20

Feeling a bit deflated this week as I have put ON a pound. I know its probably a blip but this is what happens on every diet I try - first week a good loss 4lb. Then slowly put that 4lb back on over the next couple of weeks. It's like my body is set at 13.4 and will not deviate from it.

It does prove to me how bloody difficult it is for me to lose weight. Ive been eating 1000 cals a day for 2 weeks now.

If you are eating 1000 calories a day I wouldn’t worry about the gain, it’s just water weight. I have Withings scales so I look at the daily fat mass amount if the weight has gone up!

Week 4 and I am on a plateau - same weight for the past 4 days! Definitely eating in a deficit. What's a good way to shift things?

What are you eating each day?

Yesterday: 0% greek yogurt with raspberries. Shiitake mushrooms with an egg. About 2 tbsps hummus and half a flatbread. Half a tuna steak (could not finish) and cauliflower.
None of that is big portions, I physically can't eat big portions!

I know exactly what you mean about the reset. I did not realise how much I thought about food until it stopped. I was constantly fighting with myself over portion sizes and what to eat etc.

I found the same. The weird thing is, while I'm no longer thinking much about food (other than: is this the right type of nutritious? Has it got enough fucking protein?) it comes out in my dreams! Last night I dreamed of some bread I'd baked, I was slicing it, and could smell it, was focusing on the crumbs falling onto the bread board. It's far from the first very detailed food dream I've had since starting. And it's neither happy nor sad, just quite a strange thing!

That is an odd dream. Maybe your brain is processing your changing feelings around food?

I'm totally with you on the protein obsession.

Edited

I started on 5mg last Sunday
No SE, just constipation which I've had since I started on 2.5mg

Radioundermypillow · 31/07/2025 12:59

Not sure whether to order the next strength or not. I will finish my pen just before my holiday so will have a few days before the next is due. I was planning to have that week off and start again when back. So thought I'd order another 0.25 as I feel really good on it. But the suppression is minimal now...although it is good for me to have to use willpower along with wegovy I guess??

cittigirl · 31/07/2025 13:03

MeridaBrave · 30/07/2025 13:44

I’m losing 1kg a week on 2.5mg but I am eating 3 meals and a snack each day, circa 1,200 calories and 140g of protein (ie focus on protein), with quite a lot of exercise. If I ate less I would be hungry… I don’t mind the 1kg a week loss as I don’t have loads to lose and I want to preserve muscle. My next pen is a 5mg - I got it to give me the flexibility either way (I might take half doses).

I don’t see why you couldn’t do a double dose as long as being taking for 3-4 weeks at 2.5mg.

I'm new to this thread. I started MJ 3 weeks ago. Do my jab on a Friday morning. Only SE was horrific d and v 3 days after my first jab which almost put me off but I put it down to too much fruit and eating my normal size breakfast that day of yoghurt and granola. It just sat ony stomach. It was really bad but Ive had no SE effects since apart from fleeting nausea a few times. I lost 7.5 lb the first week and 1.5 the 2nd. Hoping for 2 this week. I have about 4/5 stone to lose but I'm positive I'll get there 😀

My question for you MeridaBrave is what are you eating to get 140g of protein please? I'm averaging about 100. Thankyou

Thank you, that’s encouraging. I injected at 7am this morning and so far nothing, including no suppression. So I’m hoping it kicks in soon
