New thread.

First post re: lifting heavy.
I mentioned on the other thread about lifting heavy for 6-8 reps and I was told it was bad advice. Clearly it’s not my advice made up by me - it’s from world leading female health doctor expert Stacey Sims. There is plenty online from her (loads of podcasts) so have a listen. I’ve been lifting this way for 3 years since the outset of menopause symptoms, on her advice and I have significantly increased muscle size and strength. She also has written a couple of books which are excellent.

Clearly this can only be done with good form or it will lead to injury. Either use a PT (as suggested on the last thread) or use the resistance machines in the gym which basically lock you into the correct position.

I had to go there as have three adult kids at home atm. I'll have to remember to watch myself next time.

Send them to get their own pastries!

flipent · 29/07/2025 13:56

Unfortunately, not all calories are created equally!

I'm all for treats and not depriving yourself - the great thing about WLI is that they make it easier to make the right decisions. Easier to cook from scratch, stop when you're full and pick up some fruit rather than a pastry.

But making it easier doesn't mean you don't have to think about what you are eating and calories, while a great guide don't give you the whole picture on the nutrition.

Well I could but they are all working today and I'm not. It will be good for me to get used to not automatically picking one up.

Yeah. I'm not going to feel guilty about it, just move on and recognise my triggers.

MeridaBrave · 29/07/2025 14:17

I’m on w4, day 5. Should start 2nd pen on Thurs but instead will take the bonus dose.

Weight still dropping at 1kg a week. I’m being super careful and only really eating protein and vegetables. I just find it so easy to stick to what I planned to eat. No side effects, suppression over weekend, and enough assistance to willpower that I can stick to it.

@PourUsAGlass - no probs! Got in quick 😁

Wildflowerblooms · 29/07/2025 17:03

W5 D2. Took my first dose of 5mg last night. So far I haven’t had any of the side effects that bothered me in week one so here’s to hoping that going up to 5mg will be fine. I managed to lose another 1.6lbs last week which I’m happy about. When I weighted yesterday, I was on the last day of my period and I normally carry a few extra pounds for a few days after it ends so I’m very happy to be down.

SW: 88.35kg
CW: 84.91kg

AirborneElephant · 29/07/2025 08:17

Don’t despair @zerofeeling . 2.5mg is a sub-clinical dose. Yes, some people respond very well and get benefits right from the start. I found it helped my cravings but didn’t suppress appetite as such (although I found it much easier to stop when full). Others like you need a higher dose to feel the effects. I hope you get benefits soon. 💕

Thanks Airborne 😊 My problem is firstly that I need to hurry up and shift some weight as I'm supposed to be going up Ben Nevis in 5 weeks and if I'm still this heavy it's going to to make it really hard instead of enjoyable. Secondly I really can't afford to continue on to 5mg, I'm only getting by on very patchy temp work atm. So I really needed this first pen to work - I'm seriously considering injecting again tonight so I will have had 5mg within 24 hours.

How much weight do you have to lose? I think it’s really not a good idea to double up in week 1. Maybe ok in week 3 once you know your body can tolerate it.

My suppression didn’t kick in for at least 24 hours more like 36 hours.

Although you can lose water weight in week one, it’s very hard to sustain a loss of over 1kg a week after that. I started on 3 July, I’ve lost 6kg - hoping to get to 7kg by 3 August.

I've got about 2 and a half stone to lose, 7kg in a month would be fine, enough to make a big difference physically. I'm on week two now - 1st jab on Monday last week made absolutely no difference at all. Second jab yesterday, again no difference.

daisydreamies · 29/07/2025 18:18

Lucienandjean · 28/07/2025 19:53

@daisydreamiescan I ask what happens when you take your next jab? I’m on day 4 of my first jab, and only just emerging from some pretty awful nausea. I’m now feeling ok, but more hungry, and getting worried about my next dose. Am I likely to feel as bad the next time round, or will the side effects be a bit less. All the articles I’ve read and YT videos I’ve watched seem to really dismiss nausea as something very brief and mild and it goes away quickly, but that’s not how I’ve felt!

I found the SEs reduced but sometimes new ones popped up. They’re not as dramatic compared to the first week though

Radioundermypillow · 29/07/2025 19:11

I had two tiny pangs of nausea first week on wegovy. No SE at all on 2nd week but not a huge amount of suppression either.

That’s annoying. I’m getting reduced appetite and less food noise. I’ve managed to use that and quite a lot of willpower (yes due to cost) to be stricter than I could ever be normally. i’m mostly eating protein and vegetables and I’m doing more exercise as well.

I can eat anything and can eat three meals a day BUT they have to be very small. Just had a pint of water with clear protein then a bit later had a small pprtion of beef stew with broccoli and peas. Now feel uncomfortably full.

1023nina · 29/07/2025 19:25

week 4 day 4 (last 2.5 doseage)
so tonight my appetite has seem to of came back, will have to watch my intake until Saturday my question is anyone did the 3.75 for a week instead of the 5, tbh I've not got loads of weight to lose i was put on it for my diabetes, every week I feel sick and have a headache for first 48hrs ish, I'm thinking instead of double dose I do a mid one if that make sense for say 2 weeks then go up to the 5m what's peoples thoughts

ByLemonFish · 29/07/2025 19:37

I took 3.75 for a week, then increased to 5mg. No SE

Gnr24 · 29/07/2025 20:02

W1 D6.
I'm ready for my 2nd jab tomorrow, I am really hungry today, still get full up quickly but have ate quite a bit more today than the last few days.

Does anyone know if there's a page on recipes or tips of what to eat. I'm pescatarian but worried ill get bored with the same meals

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 29/07/2025 20:09

Does anyone else feel restless in the evenings.? I used to enjoy cooking something nice and sitting down to watch some tv with a glass of wine. Now I don’t feel like doing that.

Looks like I'm on the same timeline as you. Second jab for me tomorrow, too!

Gnr24 · 29/07/2025 20:18

@MontysMissus how has your first week been, any SE?

MontysMissus · 29/07/2025 20:26

Gnr24 · 29/07/2025 20:18

@MontysMissus how has your first week been, any SE?

Not much. A couple of times I had to urgently use the loo almost immediately after eating and had a little bit of windiness which was resolved by some Buscopan. Otherwise, it's been pretty good with reasonable suppression and fulness. Today, Day 6, was the first time I actually fancied some food and didn't have to actively decide I needed to eat.
How about you?

Gnr24 · 29/07/2025 20:31

@MontysMissus Not too bad, I was nauseous for a couple of days but the main thing is tiredness.

DarkSuitsSadSongs · 29/07/2025 20:37

End of wk4 for me and I'm down 12lbs. Will be taking my first 5mg dose in an hour so.

SW: 12st 8.5lb
CW: 11st 10.5lb
TW: 8st 10lb

That's exactly what I was hoping for ☹️ I knew a certain amount of willpower would be required but I just needed some extra help which I hoped MJ would provide because I've been trying and failing so many times since January.

I've decided to go ahead and do next week's 2.5 jab tonight. If I come back here tomorrow complaining about side effects feel free to tell me to belt up!

Adultautismdiagnosis · 29/07/2025 21:36

Week 1 - 5lbs
Week 2 - 1lb

Have to admit I'm slightly disappointed this week even though 6lbs in 2 weeks is really good.

Current weight 12 stone 12.5lbs
Target - to be 10 stone 'something'

In reality, I should be 9 stone for my height but I'd be delighted with something in the 10s so I'll aim for another 2 stone, preferably by Xmas.
