Mournjaro July Starters 2nd thread

New thread.

First post re: lifting heavy.
I mentioned on the other thread about lifting heavy for 6-8 reps and I was told it was bad advice. Clearly it’s not my advice made up by me - it’s from world leading female health doctor expert Stacey Sims. There is plenty online from her (loads of podcasts) so have a listen. I’ve been lifting this way for 3 years since the outset of menopause symptoms, on her advice and I have significantly increased muscle size and strength. She also has written a couple of books which are excellent.

Clearly this can only be done with good form or it will lead to injury. Either use a PT (as suggested on the last thread) or use the resistance machines in the gym which basically lock you into the correct position.

Hi! Just joining in. I started on 8th July. 17lbs gone so far. Planning on sticking with MJ for now and hoping to move to Pharmulous going forward and for maintenance.

AllRevvedUpWithNoPlaceToGo · 30/08/2025 09:18

Weigh in day for me, I’ve lost 1.25lb this week taking be to just under 11lb lost over 7 weeks of jabs. I am very happy with this- a 1lb loss a week would give me another stone gone by Christmas which would be amazing.

Well done. I'm averaging about 1lb a week and am very happy with that. It's been many years since I've been this weight.

That’s exactly the same for me- you name it I’ve done it over the years and nothing’s worked until now. I’m also still on the 2.5 pen as I’d rather stay on the lowest dose all the time it’s working.

AirborneElephant · 30/08/2025 09:27

Well done @RenegadeKeeblerElf ! Glad the scales have started moving again for you.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 30/08/2025 09:35

Thanks @AirborneElephant I know I need to trust the process when they stop moving but it's hard.

I just keep being amazed at how well this drug works, and look forward to the day when it's available to everyone who needs it. I've got a friend at work who would love to try it but can't afford it and I feel so bad that every day she is picking miserably at her salad and plain chicken, constantly craving carbs/sugar and battling minute by minute to stay on track, and I'm next to her, merrily enjoying my salad and actually struggling to finish all my protein, then being perfectly happy to say no to the (constantly available!) cakes and biscuits.

Kittkats · 30/08/2025 09:49

Back from holiday. 10 nights away and I’ve gained 4lb.
i suspect that wine most evenings didn’t help, and at least 4 days I didn’t drink close to enough water as I had long drives and didnt want to keep stopping for toilet breaks! Other than that I didn’t think I ate massively more calories, though definitely more carbs and less protein than before…. Lesson learnt, back to protein and water! Jab day today and doing the golden dose, probably 5mg ish?

Nellieinthebarn · 30/08/2025 10:59

Weigh in day, and I've put on 900g. But I had lost 2.2kg week before last, through feeling awful on 5mg. So I came right off last week and started again yesterday on 2.5mg. Im not really surprised its up and down a bit.

My overall weight loss is
SW 85.72
CW 77.90
Loss of 7.82
TW - still not sure, but definitely aiming for a BMI of under 25 which would be about 64kg. So still a way to go. Seems loads, but I'm over half way.

I think what you say here is so real for me. I actively enjoy eating the salad and protein now. I actively am happy with my healthier choices whilst previously I constantly felt deprived when I was losing weight. It is amazing to me that this is how others might feel always. It is truly a miracle drug

Anybody else getting heartburn? I was fine for the first few weeks, then a couple of weeks ago started getting some heartburn at bedtime, now the last few days it's been all afternoon/evening from about 4pm. Rennie's helps for a little while but not for long, I haven't changed my dose or my diet, really stumped about why it's suddenly started!

Occasionally! Which is weird because I take lansoprazole every day

I'm thinking I may need to start taking a daily tablet, it's really annoying

Still trying to decide what to do about pharmacy access if I need to go back on though. I’m not very keen to give Oushk £20 a month for nothing, but it would protect the ability to restart.

I spoke to Swift, they said can take a break of up to a year. But need to go back to 2.5mg (the next pen can be 5mg). I thought that was preferable to paying £15 a month. Need to order at least one from them before the gap.

OP posts:
AirborneElephant · 30/08/2025 19:25

That sounds promising. Might try to speak to them and order just one more from them if that’s still their position.

Doireallywanttodothis · 31/08/2025 09:49

W8 D1, 4lb off after a STS last week. 19.5lb off so far. And a massive NSV - normotensive this morning for the first time since I was diagnosed with high BP over a year ago. Worth the price of the mounjaro just for that. Family history of high BP and strokes and have just been a ticking time bomb. Next step to get my BP meds lower. We can do this 💪.

Sux2buthen · 31/08/2025 13:12

I ordered from medexpress on the 20th, 5mg. They emailed several times just to reassure me my pen was secured and guaranteed and yesterday messaged me to say actually it’s not after all but they have 2.5. I’ve asked to change to 2.5 and they’ve agreed, I’m hoping it actually goes through it’s taking a very long time

side note I’m a pound off of two stone so I’m really hoping to continue

ShuriPouri · 31/08/2025 20:01

Okay, i am a July starter.. just started my second 5mg pen and discovered MN, so been lurking for a little while.

I have been constantly injecting into my upper thighs... swapping each leg, each injection and today I decided to try the tummy as an injection site..

😬😫

It was weirdly difficult to inject my tummy. Like I was going in slow motion and afterwards I felt slightly sick and it is a little tender

guess I wont be doing it again!!

Also hello all u lovely ladies and I hope u don't mind me crashing the July threads 😍

stormageddmum · 31/08/2025 20:38

Hi Shuri! As in totally new to Mumsnet? You're in for a treat if you are a newbie - definitely search for the 'fat ball' thread!

I've lurked for years but de-cloaked for the weight loss stuff - info and support here is amazing.

1023nina · 31/08/2025 23:44

week 8 today a complete month on 5mg.

weight loss this week 0.6kg or 1.3lb .
total loss 8.3kg or 1stone 3lb.

no sickness at all this week, I think my body has finally settled on this.

diabetic level has drop again 54. was called by my DN from GP they are so pleased with my reactions to this drug, it has also helped to lower my cholesterol levels due to new eating ways.

I have catch up with diabetic specialist Tuesday night, I'm hoping he is pleased also and getting ready for the next steps..

I hope that everyone has had a good week and sending postive thoughts to you all xx

Hi and Welcome!

I actually prefer my stomach as a location.

At some point we could do a roll call of who is on this thread.

My previous mumsnet name was foreveronadiet as that’s how I felt. For decades. I was only marginal overweight when I started at beginning of July but I love MJ as it frees me of the food noise and constant willpower. I need to work out how long term maintenance looks (still have another 2-3 kg to lose first).

Well after 4 weeks maintaining the same weight on 2.5mg I went up to 5mg last wednesday, some side effects like salivating - a lot, acid reflux and headaches it seems to have settled. 2kg down, I am now 2kg away from target weight.

Yes, totally new to Mumsnet.. I was a BabyCenter person before! But that was December 2009, ha ha ha!

I know.. shock horror right!

I kinda knew Mumsnet existed, but thought it was like BabyCentre... only really came on here once I saw the weight loss stuff, and have subsequently discovered the myriad that is Mumsnet!

I shall deffo search for fat ball... 😬

really??? wow.. I really struggled, but it is supposed to be one of the best places to inject.

I was also marginally obese when I started .. I had a BMI of 28 - I'm Asian, so a BMI of 27 is considered obese for me.

I have lost 4 kg since I started, which is great. I am menopausal and was on keto, intermittent fasting, and eating really only dinner as a decent-sized portion.
But the weight kept piling on. I even walk for an hour every day with my pups.

So I totally understand the sentiment of being forever on a diet!

I find that Mounjaro really helps with me being able to get full quicker, and yes, the food noise has gone.

Intermittent fasting meant I was thinking of food all the time.. Now I have something three times a day and am still losing, so it's a win-win.

Such a shame about the price hikes.

And thank you for welcoming me :-)

daisydreamies · 01/09/2025 17:14

Mild panic time. So tomorrow is the official last day of my pen, and my next one isn't due to arrive until the 19th 😱 so glad I bought extra needles to get the 5th dose out otherwise I'd be going a week and a half without a dose. I really hope taking it a few days late won't compromise my weight loss too much.

I'm now slightly regretting not buying an extra pen when the price increase was announced, but that would have eaten into my savings which I didn't want to do 😭

It’s actually just over a dose, eg 0.9ml not
0.6ml so take a dose next week and you can always take the last little bit to help tide you over.

Interesting re: cholesterol. Mine was elevated when it was last checked. I’m having another test on 15th Sept so let’s hope it’s lower by then.
