New thread.

First post re: lifting heavy.
I mentioned on the other thread about lifting heavy for 6-8 reps and I was told it was bad advice. Clearly it’s not my advice made up by me - it’s from world leading female health doctor expert Stacey Sims. There is plenty online from her (loads of podcasts) so have a listen. I’ve been lifting this way for 3 years since the outset of menopause symptoms, on her advice and I have significantly increased muscle size and strength. She also has written a couple of books which are excellent.

Clearly this can only be done with good form or it will lead to injury. Either use a PT (as suggested on the last thread) or use the resistance machines in the gym which basically lock you into the correct position.

@Gottostick I’m not sure about the bmi implications of it as I don’t know your height etc. But if you’re within the prescribing guidelines then there would be no issue with a gap in provision.

The big issue I have is that it’s illegal. I get that there are two 5mg pens being “wasted” and with the current prices that seems criminal but it is, plain and simple, illegal. What you choose to do is your business but as a clinician I have to point that out.

Rallentanda · 27/08/2025 11:46

I've had a really solid week and lost 3.5lbs - and, I'm really starting to see and feel the benefits of weight training. Starting to enjoy my body again. Not sure if I'll be able to get more of this drug (shortages/pricing) but I hope to be able to carry on a bit longer.

Carlyh02 · 27/08/2025 13:34

About to order my 3rd pen - im sticking with 2.5mg, i dont have full appetite suppression (which i dont want!) but i do find sweet things less appealing and no urge to snack at 3pm, im losing between 1 -1.5 lb a week so see no reason to move up. Just back from a 2 week camping holiday - the food side was OK, but there was a lot of drinking wine and not enough drinking water, so i stayed the same weight - this would not have happened pre mounjaro!

Hi everyone, I’ve been lurking for a while but thought it was time to post and ask for some advice.

I started Mounjaro on 8th July and will be starting my 3rd pen (still on 2.5mg) on 9th Sept. So far I’ve had zero side effects and the appetite suppression works really well most of the week, so I’ve been happy to stay at 2.5mg for now.

Here’s the situation: my husband has 2 unused 5mg pens in the fridge. He’s prescribed MJ for diabetes but hasn’t used them for a while due to health issues, so his doctor is restarting him on 2.5mg. That means I could make use of these “spare” pens when I’m ready to step up to 3.75mg.

The only thing I’m unsure about is what happens afterwards. If I use his pens for a couple of months, I’ll basically drop off my supplier’s system — and when I want to go back, my BMI will be lower and I won’t have my own prescription history for about 12 weeks.

This is the plan I worked out (using the “golden dose” idea — 5 weeks on 2.5mg pens, 6 weeks on 3.75mg from 5mg pens):

  • Pen 3 (2.5mg): 9 Sep → 14 Oct 2025
  • Pen 4 (2.5mg): 14 Oct → 18 Nov 2025
  • Pen 5 (3.75mg from 5mg): 18 Nov → 30 Dec 2025
  • Pen 6 (3.75mg from 5mg): 30 Dec → 10 Feb 2026
  • Pen 7 (2.5mg): 10 Feb → 17 Mar 2026
  • Pen 8 (2.5mg): 17 Mar → 21 Apr 2026

If things carry on as they have, my Happy Scale app suggests I’ll be at goal around the end of April.

My questions are:

  1. Has anyone here used spare pens like this and then gone back to their own supplier?
  2. Will a supplier still take me back if my BMI is lower and I don’t have continuous prescription records?

So I have moved to Swift as they are good for maintenance. If you order one pen from them you can have a gap of up to a year, as long as BMI over 22 can order again. Yes have to restart on 2.5mg but that would only be for 1 month before going to 5. They are ££ competitive. I’d order one 5mg from them, and explain that you are taking a gap to see how you do (just say due to cost) and can reorder once run out.

Also why can’t your husband use the 5mg pens after he’s done a month on 2.5mg?

I’m taking 2.5mg from a 5mg pen and I have 2 unopened pens, so enough for a while. I’ve moved to Swift and ordered one, and will tell them taking a gap for a few months due to cost to see how I maintain. If I need to restart again it’s all good.

After a horrible week on 5mg, I am having a week off MJ, and will start again on 2.5mg. I am now on day 4 of no MJ, and I'm still managing to be good, and not eat more than 1200 calories a day. I think I need this, as last week I hardly ate at all.

Today we were stuck in town longer than we thought and had to buy lunch out, we went to McDonalds and I had.... a grilled chicken salad !!!!.

I am so proud of myself, but also slightly regretting not having a big mac.

Rallentanda · 27/08/2025 20:54

NSV: we went out for a drink in town, and I wanted to walk home. And dh told me I’m walking more like I used to: less clumpy, I think. He said ‘more elegantly’ bless him.

theressomanytinafeysicouldbe · 28/08/2025 10:13

I started my 5mg last night around 4.30pm, I had some sweet potato 'fries' cooked in the air fryer1 and small amount of mozarella and seasoning, I couldn't eat a full sweet potato, made sure I drank plenty of water and then at around 7pm I started salivating - a lot - I went to bed at 8.15 because it felt like my mouth watering as though it was a precursor to throwing up. I woke up this morning with headache but paracetamol have taken that away but I'm still salivating, has anyone experienced this? Drinking plenty of water again this morning and had a weetabix but I keep feeling like I am going to spit at someone when I talk and feel a little nauseous although the weetabix seemed to help a little with that

I find that I feel worse in terms of nausea and particularly heartburn if I haven't eaten enough. Especially in the evening, I need to make sure I have carbs with dinner and eat a decent portion in order to not have heartburn when going to bed. I think it is to do with having enough in my stomach.

CarbyB · 29/08/2025 00:58

Hi all, what is everyone’s plans? To stick with mounjaro or switch to Wegovy?

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 29/08/2025 06:11

I'm sticking with Mounjaro. The price difference on 2.5mg is negligible and it's working well for me.

Gettingfitorbust · 29/08/2025 07:43

Same. I’m staying on 2.5mg but will probably won’t be staying on much longer.

CleanShirt · 29/08/2025 07:47

I'm sticking with MJ. Just managed to order a 5mg pen before the prices went up. I'm on my second month of 2.5 and can definitely feel the suppression lessen.

DabOfPistachio · 29/08/2025 08:05

I'm planning on sticking with MJ but on lower doses as much as possible. It helps that I'm spending a lot less on junk food.
The 2.5 suppression was definitely wearing off by week 4 though. I've just gone up to 5 so I hope it lasts longer

AllRevvedUpWithNoPlaceToGo · 29/08/2025 08:27

I was abroad and offline when everything kicked off, so I missed the chance to order extra pens in. I reordered another 2.5 as soon as I could, but I’m still waiting for it to come and only have tomorrow’s jab left in my existing one

Nellieinthebarn · 29/08/2025 11:21

I'm planning on starting again tomorrow on 2.5mg, I've got one and a half 5mg pens, and one on order at the old price.

I'm just going to take the risk with the 30 day expiry once opened. I'm also going to do the golden dose out of each pen, so that will be another 3 weeks for 'free'. I'm sure it will be fine.

My plan is to stick to 2.5 dosage, which should see me through to Christmas with what I've got. I'm going to make the decision about what to do longer term then. It will depend on how much I've got to lose at that point, and what the cost has settled down to.

stormageddmum · 29/08/2025 12:14

Sticking with MJ as I'm still on 2.5mg too, but possibly swapping to Wegovy before I hit bmi 30. I have about two stone to go before then. I'm concerned about swapping under bmi 30. IQ doctor said they 'should' be able to swap me with evidence that I started MJ on a higher BMI, but their Wegovy prices aren't the cheapest and they have been crap with email response and general comms.

Weight is shifting more consistently nd suppression is fine on the low dose at the moment so loathed to swap really.

AirborneElephant · 29/08/2025 14:39

I’m sticking. Hoping I have enough in the fridge to see me through. I went up to 5mg but then back down to 3.75 as I couldn’t eat properly, and I’m hoping to stay no higher than 5mg to get to goal. I have around 10kg to go which I’m hoping to lose in the next 3 to 4 months, then I should have enough for 6months maintenance on 2.5mg to cement the loss and work out what my long term diet should look like, then I will try to come off.

AirborneElephant · 29/08/2025 14:41

Still trying to decide what to do about pharmacy access if I need to go back on though. I’m not very keen to give Oushk £20 a month for nothing, but it would protect the ability to restart.

daisydreamies · 29/08/2025 14:59

I'm sticking with MJ for now, unless the £50 increase ends up being too much. Luckily 5mg is enough, but I am worried about needing to go up eventually.

My worry is wegovy not working as well as mounjaro is, which is why I'm hesitant to switch over in case I regain. I don't want to lose any progress I've made especially as my weight loss has slowed down (half a kg a week at the moment).

stormageddmum · 29/08/2025 21:15

This is my worry too, but Semaglutide does work - think of all the celebs on Ozempic (maybe don't focus on the whole Ozempic face thing!)

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 29/08/2025 23:17

Anybody else getting heartburn? I was fine for the first few weeks, then a couple of weeks ago started getting some heartburn at bedtime, now the last few days it's been all afternoon/evening from about 4pm. Rennie's helps for a little while but not for long, I haven't changed my dose or my diet, really stumped about why it's suddenly started!

Yes, me too. Just in the last week. I've just started on 5mg.
Someone on here said it happened when they hadn't eaten and their stomach was empty and that seemed to fit for me. Its better if I make sure I snack. I've been having an apple and that helps for me.

🙈 that was me that said about eating to stop the heartburn, it seems that ever since I said that it's not worked for me!!

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 30/08/2025 09:02

I will never understand weight loss! Last week I was frustrated that the scales wouldn't move, this week I haven't really done anything different and have lost 2.3kg 😮 . That's nearly 2 stone in 7 weeks which is amazing, I will definitely have to keep finding the money for this somehow!
