New thread.

First post re: lifting heavy.
I mentioned on the other thread about lifting heavy for 6-8 reps and I was told it was bad advice. Clearly it’s not my advice made up by me - it’s from world leading female health doctor expert Stacey Sims. There is plenty online from her (loads of podcasts) so have a listen. I’ve been lifting this way for 3 years since the outset of menopause symptoms, on her advice and I have significantly increased muscle size and strength. She also has written a couple of books which are excellent.

Clearly this can only be done with good form or it will lead to injury. Either use a PT (as suggested on the last thread) or use the resistance machines in the gym which basically lock you into the correct position.

Week 8 completed here and it’s the first week where I’ve put weight on, feeling peeved but trying not to blow it out of proportion.

I was on hol this week and have eaten popcorn, pub lunch, McDonald’s etc. Less than I would have previously but still. However, I had a nice time and am trying to remember it’s ok to have some balance.

So, D9W1 93.4kg (+0.2kg on last week)

Also my supplier is out of stock of everything, although I’m going to email them to clarify if that’s actually the case or they’re pausing sales until the price rise kicks in. They were inundated when the announcement was made so I can see them just closing shop until sales return to a manageable level.

You could swap supplier?

I have a voucher code for Juniper if you need one. They're showing stock.

My weight has completely stalled this week, I'm getting really frustrated. I'm eating well below my TDEE, even taking into account what I've lost already, I'm exercising, I'm not constipated, I'm drinking plenty, the food I'm eating is healthy so I shouldn't be retaining water, and the scales are completely stuck. Last Sat (official weigh in day) I was 129.9kg. I managed not to weigh again until Tues (usually try to avoid daily weighing) and I was 129.9. Wed 130.0, Thurs back to 129.9, today still 129.9. What the hell is going on???

0.2kg is virtually nothing, you’ll probably get another boost next week and lose a bit faster. Well done for keeping in control over your holiday!

CookieQueen1986 · 22/08/2025 09:27

I’ve made the decision not to order any more pens.
I just went to order the 7.5mg from Lloyds Pharmacy and it’s £200. I can’t justify the cost of it. And that’s before the massive price hikes.
I also can’t move providers because most of them aren’t accepting orders from new customers and my BMI is now below 30, so I’m limited as to which providers will accept me anyway.
I feel a bit gutted about it but I just have to look at it like a good kick start. I still have two stone to go and I’ll just have to try and do it the old fashioned way.
good luck to everyone on their journeys xx

I had a week like that last week (fell in the middle of my weigh in days so at least it didn’t show up on those 😆). Then the weight just started coming off again. Sometimes it’s water weight rebalancing, body composition changes, digestion differences ect. The water weight isn’t just due to unhealthy foods and bloating/water retention, it’s also due to your glycogen stores being used up or replenished (glycogen bings to water in a 3:1 ratio), which is due to a combination of factors like energy availability, carb intake, exercise, stress, ect ect.

AirborneElephant · 22/08/2025 09:30

In other words, if your body takes fat and converts it to glycogen, that’s a good thing because the energy stored is then ready to be used more easily. But you will temporarily put on weight.

So would increasing exercise cause that? That's the only real change I can see. It's just so frustrating - logically I know it will come off eventually, weight loss isn't linear etc etc, but I just really like seeing the scales change! 😭

Trinck · 22/08/2025 09:33

Weigh Day.

49yo secondary assistant headteacher. Largely sedentary life, especially currently during summer holidays. Right now I'm working on accepting that if I don't exercise much then I don't need to consume many calories. I have OMAD and its usually a salad of some description or lean protein and veg. I'm a recovering (self diagnosed) sugar addict. I'm going no sugar, no carbs.

Victory this week is 1 stone loss

18.07.25 - 17st 11 BMI 43.0
25.07.25 - 17st 5 BMI 42.0
01.08.25 - 17st 2.5 BMI 41.6
08.08.25 - 17st 0.5 BMI 41.2
15.08.25 - 16st 12 BMI 40.8
22.08.25 - 16st 8.5 BMI 40.2

Target next week:
BMI under 40 (16st 7.5 - 1lb to go)
Being under 16 1/2 stone

Possibly. People who exercise regularly store more glycogen per kg than sedentary people. It’s a very complex set of interactions and I’m not that much of an expert. But if you are now regularly exercising you will be using up your muscle glycogen, and that may well be triggering your body to produce more.

AirborneElephant · 22/08/2025 09:37

With you on the frustration btw! I hate days when I go up on the scales. But it will start moving again eventually.

I don't log the days when the scales go up. I'm only logging when I lose weight. If I don't log it, then it didn't happen and I don't feel awful or start worrying that the medication has stopped working.

I like that plan! I only log once a week, on my 'official' weigh in (Sat morning after jabbing Fri night). But that doesn't stop my brain remembering the ones in between!

I've sent you a PM with it. I've got a £75 off first month code with Juniper. I think they have stock. I paid £154 for 7.5mg. It was delivered within 2 days of ordering as a new customer.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 22/08/2025 10:19

Week 7 day 5 and I've made it to over a stone lost! 🥳
15lb to be exact, so averaging around 2lb per week which feels sustainable.
I'm now 14st 4lb, and hopefully just a few weeks away from being under 14st for the first time in over 20 years
I'm on 5mg a s have ordered 7.5 for next month, but I feel ok on 5. I have decent suppression with no SE beyond a bit of bloating from time to time. The suppression isn't so much that I can't enjoy a meal with my family or a coffee out with a friend, but enough that I only need a small portion and I'm not thinking about food.
I have a 7.5 in the fridge and one on order so I think I'll count clicks to stay on 5 for as long as it's working - it'll help to combat the price rises a bit too.

Nellieinthebarn · 22/08/2025 10:55

I'm in a quandary, I have felt so awful this week on 5mg, its only this morning I've feeling OK enough to have breakfast. Its injection day again tomorrow. I was going to go down to 3.75. But I'm thinking I might have a week off, and go back to 2.5mg next week, and then stay on that for the duration.

I feel like I've had flu or something, so weak and watery, I think a week without MJ to recover somewhat from hardly eating at all won't hurt.

It will mean more will power, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing as I am trying to use MJ as a support for learning portion control and finding better coping strategies, as well as weight loss. So I think I have to feel a bit of hunger in order to learn how to manage it.

I used a vape in the same way to give up smoking, I just used it to help me over the worst bits, and then gave that up too. So I think this is a method that can work for me. Fingers crossed anyway.

Thanks! It’s quite nice being able to get straight back into a rhythm of eating healthily again. Previously I would have started craving fat and sugar straight away after eating those kind of foods.

That makes a lot of sense. I completely agree it’s good to need some willpower rather than simply not being able to eat. You can always take the next jab a couple or days early or go up a dose later if you need to.

Hi everyone, hope we're all doing well.
Quick question: Two days ago I moved up from 2.5mg to 3.75mg. Wanted to step up gently. However, since going up, I swear I am MORE hungry than when on 2.5mg.
Not sure if in my imagination or whether I just need to eat more, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this?
Thank you 😊

I'm in the same situation. I stepped up to 5mg last Saturday night and was very light headed and nauseous on Sunday and Monday. I barely ate for 3 days and even now on day 6 of this week I have to force myself to eat. I'm trying to exercise (weights and cardio) but have barely done any this week as I've not felt up to it. I went for a run this morning but felt really ill again. I'm going to delay my next injection for a few days and then do either 2.5 or 3.75mg.

I found this on the first two weeks moving up to 5, but I'm on week 3 of it now and back to decent suppression and losing weight.
