New thread.

First post re: lifting heavy.
I mentioned on the other thread about lifting heavy for 6-8 reps and I was told it was bad advice. Clearly it’s not my advice made up by me - it’s from world leading female health doctor expert Stacey Sims. There is plenty online from her (loads of podcasts) so have a listen. I’ve been lifting this way for 3 years since the outset of menopause symptoms, on her advice and I have significantly increased muscle size and strength. She also has written a couple of books which are excellent.

Clearly this can only be done with good form or it will lead to injury. Either use a PT (as suggested on the last thread) or use the resistance machines in the gym which basically lock you into the correct position.

I've taken my second dose from my 5mg pen, but counted out 45 clicks to make 3.75mg. Reason being I felt my ability to eat was suppressed a bit too much last week. I had a meal out and just couldn't eat, couldn't enjoy that, and I don't want that particularly, even if it's brilliant for weight loss!

I did the same, went from 5mg back down to 3.75mg. I’ll stay as long as I keep losing, like you I started to struggle to eat properly on the 5mg. And with the price increases I want to stretch my stock out as long as possible!

Brightonbelly · 20/08/2025 13:34

Not planning to move up from 2.5 I don’t think. Week 4 and still getting huge (possibly too much) suppression on day 7. I’m actually wondering about reducing the dose a bit. Anyone else using Shotsy? I’m surprised at how much has built up in my system. Wondering about a reduced dose to let it all settle down a bit!

My usual weigh in day is Saturday, but we were away on holiday abroad. I din't count calories just ate when I was hungry, I've come back today and weighed myself and I've lost 0.75lb in about 10 days- normally I'd put 7lb on during a 7 day holiday!

That makes a loss of 8.5lb in 5 weeks which I am really pleased with! I took my shot this afternoon instead of Saturday as I decided not to take the pen with me abroad, and I'll do the shot every 6 days until I get back to my usual Saturday which works well for me.

I posted a little while ago about feeling really awful on the shots- using electrolytes have been a game changer for me, I've used capsules which have made such a difference for me.

Nellieinthebarn · 20/08/2025 15:34

I'm going to go down to 3.75 next week too. I have felt very unwell on my 2nd week of 5mg. Yes I am losing weight, but I feel awful, and I don't think I'm learning to have a better relationship with food and good portion control if I am unable to eat through feeling ill for 4 days a week.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 20/08/2025 21:07

Can anyone suggest something small that I can eat first thing in the morning before exercising? I try and swim a few times a week before work and I don't want to do it on an empty stomach Normally I would have a banana but I'm finding I can't eat a whole one and it seems a waste to through away half a banana several times a week.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 20/08/2025 23:12

I've been making smoothie bowls. If you did one that was just one banana plus yoghurt and whatever else you like you could split it into portion sizes that work for you? I like to add some almond butter, a granola sprinkle for crunch and a few raspberries to mine but it could be as much or as little as you like.

How long do they keep? I'll still be having breakfast after my swim, this is just something to stop me being hungry/give me some energy to swim so I would only have a very small amount. Today I'm going to have a chocolate brioche roll (as I happen to have some going out of date!) so I'll see how that goes.

Hi I have been a lurker for a while now but I started in July am on week 5 now. Down 3kg slow and steady.
Sw: 13.4
Cw: 12.9
I make cookie dough protein balls for when I don't want any breakfast,
1 cup diet vanilla protein shake powder
1/2 cup peanut butter
2 tbsp honey
Enough water to bind
Sprinkle of chocolate chips
Split the mixture into 8, 163 calories, 30g protein each ball. They taste amazing, sometimes I add oats too and just need to add a drop more water, pop them covered in a fridge and they last a week.

Protein shake. Just easy. Just an instant one if it’s before the gym first thing

@RenegadeKeeblerElf I’ve been making a crustless quiche (eggs, quark, feta, sprinkle of cheddar on top with a variety of cooked veg in it) for breakfast - then you can have as small (or big!) a slice of it that you want/can manage.

I generally do 3 days worth at a time so I have a quick breakfast prepared for before work, I just don't put the granola or seeds on until I eat it to stop it going soggy.

Jab day (4th 5mg jab) and weigh in day for me:

SW: 13 stone 5.5lbs
CW: 11 stone 12.8lbs

Artymummy10 · 21/08/2025 08:52

SW 99.6kg
CW 90.2kg
GW around 80kg
5mg seems to be working well for me so far. I’m down 2 and half inches from my waist and down a dress size. I’ve started noticing a difference in my face.
I’ve had some nausea this week which is new but not unbearable. I’m finding that I often don’t get hunger signals but suddenly feel a bit weak or sick so know I need to eat from that. Not having trouble eating though.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 21/08/2025 08:55

It's interesting that everyone is suggesting protein for before my swim, I've always done carbs before exercise and protein after. If protein is better I might just go for one egg, I can't stomach too much volume at that time, just need something energy dense.

For something quick and easy, I'd suggest a Babybel Light - 42 calories and 5g of protein.
I think everyone is suggesting protein to keep you fuller for longer and not spike your blood sugar. Protein is important to prevent muscle loss whilst on MJ.

Yes, that's also a good shout, thanks. I'm totally on board with the importance of protein generally, just thought that prior to exercise that carbs would be more important to ensure energy is available for the muscles

If you want performance, carbs before and protein after is the way to go. But for weight loss and muscle maintenance it’s the protein that’s important, not the carbs. Try an egg and see how you are, if you start feeling lightheaded /weak / don’t enjoy how you feel then you probably need to go back to the carbs, but I never bother eating before morning exercise and I’m fine on that.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 21/08/2025 12:22

That makes sense, thanks

I don’t think it matters so much. Need enough carbs for muscle glycogen before an exercise. Protein best ingested throughout the day for maximum

I threw the recipe up for the protein balls as they have carbs, natural sugars and protein so excellent for before or after any exercise or as a snack/dessert, if you add the oats theyre also more carb dense. They also don't sit heavy when I exercise or when I don't want to eat in the morning.

Anyone else worried about getting their next pen if they didn't buy one when the price increases were announced? I'm due to buy my next one next week and Asda are out of stock on everything except 2.5mg and I'd rather not drop down a dose.

I'm hoping they get stock soon, I might have to buy a little earlier. I was hoping to buy next Friday as it's payday, but luckily I can afford one earlier. Or look at alternive suppliers

Thischarmlessgirl · 21/08/2025 17:19

7 weeks in and 6kg down, stuck to 2.5 the whole way through and had a week off on holiday.
Currently 77kg, next goal is 72kg.

I'd shop around, plenty of suppliers have stock for 5mg, you'd have more of a problem with the higher doses but you should be ok. They are taking longer to approve as they've had so many orders, and combined with the bank holiday it might be sensible to order sooner rather than later if it can. There will probably be another surge of orders around payday.

CutiePieOk · 21/08/2025 21:24

Anyone want to laugh with me, I had planned to stay on 2.5mg for a while but was given the 5mg pen to love up, had been using the insulin pen to withdraw the shot as I was worried about counting clicks. Oops I forgot to withdraw only half dosage on these and it was my third week on this pen last night. So I had moved myself up to 5mg by mistake. No symptoms thank goodness
so guess I'll just stay on 5mg to get to target weight then back to 2.5mg for maintenance. Hmm

I have 2 unopened 5mg pens, and as I’m counting clicks (30) they will last a while. My supplier is out of all doses and we are aware on holiday so I don’t have the capacity to try and buy more from elsewhere as my BMI is now below 25. Many of the suppliers are saying only taking orders current customers
