New thread.

First post re: lifting heavy.
I mentioned on the other thread about lifting heavy for 6-8 reps and I was told it was bad advice. Clearly it’s not my advice made up by me - it’s from world leading female health doctor expert Stacey Sims. There is plenty online from her (loads of podcasts) so have a listen. I’ve been lifting this way for 3 years since the outset of menopause symptoms, on her advice and I have significantly increased muscle size and strength. She also has written a couple of books which are excellent.

Clearly this can only be done with good form or it will lead to injury. Either use a PT (as suggested on the last thread) or use the resistance machines in the gym which basically lock you into the correct position.

I've just given in and ordered a two pen bundle from Chemist4U on a credit card to make sure I have some pens in reserve if it all goes tits up. I wasn't wanting to panic buy but I am doing so well I just can't take the risk of being priced out 😥

I had ordered with a new supplier the morning before the price hikes were announced and they have approved one, but luckily I hadn't yet cancelled with my current supplier so I'm letting that order run too as they're guaranting prices up to mid September for existing customers. It's more expensive than I would have got shopping around but better than new pricing is looking like. This will take me to the end of October or later if I do the golden dose so hopefully by then the dust will have settled and we'll know exactly what the situation is.

Juls68 · 16/08/2025 21:43

Thank you all for the very sound advice I forgot to say I also work full time too which makes me exhausted by the time I finish but I'm going to try very hard to change my diet SD I'm awSre if I eat badly now then when I stop the injections and still have bad eating habits I will pile the weight back on super quick

DarkSuitsSadSongs · 17/08/2025 08:45

I've been poorly with a breast abscess but the perk of being on 3 different antibiotics meant my constipation issue was quickly resolved.

(As an aside I was nervous about explaining I was on mounjaro to the countless number of doctors and nurses I encountered over my treatment but honestly every single one of them had nothing but positive things to say about it. With one consultant saying it truly is an extraordinary medication)

I'm about 18.5lb down in 6.5 weeks. But I come today with a NSV...

I bought my 12 year old DD a boxy shorter length t shirt for our upcoming holiday in size 2XS from Primark. I'm an hourglass shape so that style is my most flattering as it sits on my waistband. Out of curiosity and before I showed her it I tried it on (usually when you go up sizes the length gets longer) and it actually fits. With no straining or stretching and it's the perfect length.

Realistically I know that a 2XS only fits because it's a boxy oversized t shirt with dropped shoulders but still! I quickly diverted the coveted t shirt to my wardrobe before she spotted it. I shall now have to find another basic white t shirt for her (she has inherited my hourglass shape. But thankfully is very tall - 5ft 5 at 12 years old and it's all leg)

Doireallywanttodothis · 17/08/2025 08:54

So encouraging to read about everyone else’s experiences and so pleased your long term blood sugars are so massively improved @1023nina.

i’ve had a great week - lost 4lb after the 0.5lb last week so really pleased (and surprised by that). W6 D1 here and that makes 15.5lb off so far. Also really enjoying rediscovering exercise.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone. What are you all doing? We’re having friends round for a BBQ and I’ve made sure there are lots of healthy options to go on the plates Halo.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 17/08/2025 09:11

I had my first bad night last night - really struggled to sleep and I think it was partly because my digestive system was out of whack - can't quite describe it but a bit like trapped wind low down. Still feeling uncomfortable this morning and can't quite work out why - I've stayed at 2.5mg and have eaten pretty much what I do every weekend since jabbing on Fri so not sure why it's affected me differently to normal. Luckily I have a chilled day today (often do a bank shift on Sundays but did one yesterday instead) and DH just brought me a cup of tea in bed so that's a bonus 🥰

ByLemonFish · 17/08/2025 09:32

My new pen was dispatched by MedExpress on Friday. Royal mail sent email saying it would arrive yesterday. It didn't, presumably it will now be Monday.
Just concerned about heat, will it be OK.?

stormageddmum · 17/08/2025 11:03

My supplier says that if the ice pack melts, it's fine as long as it stays under 30 degrees. So as long as it's coolish and goes straight in the fridge I reckon it's OK.

I had constipation but not since my holiday - first week jabbed / second week off the meds. Idk what changed but I ate granola every day so maybe try oats. Introduced some sourdough since I've been back - just one piece with smashed avo and various tasty bits. All back to normal. Think the fibre and fermentation helps.

Mine is the same supposed to arrive Friday but no word when it's coming I presume tomorrow.luckily I have the bonus left of my 2.5 pen so I'm using that today. Thank goodness for that wee extra bit lol

Nellieinthebarn · 17/08/2025 14:32

Medexpress said that mine has been dispatched today, that usually means it will come tomorrow.

I've decided to stay on 5mg for the next pen and not go up to 7.5. This is day 2 of week 2 on 5mg, and I am not doing well on it. I've just had a child size portion of cottage pie, honestly it was tiny, and I feel like I've had a massive Christmas dinner. I'm laying on the sofa waiting for the bloating to subside. I'm also getting headaches, and constipated, and finding it hard to eat more than about 750 calories.

I'm thinking I might reduce the dose to half next week and go back to 2.5mg. Apparently you have to count the clicks, but I will research further.

I am definitely going to do the golden dose now the price is going up, so that will give me an extra dose from this pen and the next one, and then I'm done with MJ.

No way can I afford the price increases. I might consider the other medication, but at the moment I'm minded to carry on until my stock is finished, and then stop.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 17/08/2025 15:35

I haven't had any chocolate since starting on Mounjaro, not deliberately, just didn't fancy it (normally would eat it every day, often gorging on it). Today I was shopping and saw a new bar that looked nice so thought I would buy it to try. I've got plenty of calories to play with today as my meals are coming out to less than 1000 so thought I would try a bit and see how it went. I was worried that just a small taste would trigger me to binge on the whole bar like it would have previously but I've been pleasantly surprised - I've had one square and although when I initially tasted it I got the sugar hit and craving for more, by the time I finished eating that one square the craving had subsided and I'm now sitting here with almost a full bar right next to me and I could take it or leave it! This is such an alien sensation to me!

stormageddmum · 17/08/2025 18:56

I'm a chocolate monster too but sweet things are tasting just tooo sweet now. One nibble and nope. Yuk.

Previously not planning on the golden dose but now 100% going for it. I'm due to jab tomorrow - has anyone had success with forcing the pen? Newer pens are meant to be tamper proof but a( I haven't got any syringes and b) frankly terrified of injecting myself with air. Think I need new glasses, the needle is usually all quite blurry!

Order the insulin needles, it’s really easy. I ordered both 0.5ml (smaller) and 1ml. If I’m taking 2.5mg from a 5mg pen I can use the smaller ones. If you want to take the full 0.6ml you need the bigger ones. As a compromise, there is circa 0.9ml left in the pen so use 2 of the smaller ones and take 2 golden doses to use every last drop (I did this 3 days apart).

I’m using a 5mg pen for 2.5mg, I think it will give me 10 or even 11 doses (assume 3 doses at end with needles). 30 clicks.

Injecting yourself with air isn’t too much of an issue if you’re doing a subcut injection. Priming it is a precaution rather than an absolute must do. Air in a vein is a no no but into fatty tissue isn’t really a problem. It’ll disperse.

Where are you ordering the insulin needles/syringes from? Are you using the same needle to extract and to inject? Is it sharp enough after extracting?

Medisupplies. Yes use same needle to extract and then inject, seems to be ok.

Thank you. I’ll investigate them. All my training (midwife) is screaming at me that the same needle shouldn’t be used but I’m going to be brave 😂

Rallentanda · 17/08/2025 23:37

I’m over a stone down in 6 weeks. Ate a third of my previously normal portion for dinner. Still surprised at how much food I did not need to eat! But no moral judgement. It felt “right”. What a mindfuck.

Will maybe order the small ones if forcing it doesn't work tomorrow. Although I'm having amazing suppression for day 7, I could wait for delivery if needed (or do a dose from next pen while I wait).

Reassuring re: the sub cutaneous air.

Definitely now less risk-averse following the pricing news.

Juls68 · 18/08/2025 06:59

Morning all I had to do the golden dose yesterday as my new order was supposed to arrive on Friday but didn't come til last night. It was fine using the insulin syringes the only thing was the needle bent a wee bit as I put it in the pen but it was fine getting the air out and injecting. I will deffo be using it from now on especially with the new prices. I just ordered my syringes from Amazon they look exactly the same as my mum ( who was type1 diabetic) used to get from the NHS.

AirborneElephant · 18/08/2025 08:16

Morning! Weigh in day is here again, end of week 8

SW 88.9kg, 37.0% body fat
CW 77.9kg, 32.8% body fat
GW 65-70kg, <30% fat

So that’s 1.2kg this week, after a bit of a slow loss last week. 11kg total so far, almost half way.

Rallentanda · 18/08/2025 09:50

I hit my first goal today, which was to get myself under 100kg. My goal is 70kg or 75 - will decide when I get there. So still some way to go but I'm really chuffed today.
Keep going with the fibre/veg/protein/water, everyone!

@AirborneElephant Thank you I’ll look into those ones. I’ve always used fill needles and administering needles previously so I’d be much happier changing needles!

@Rallentanda that’s wonderful! I’m also using 100kg as my first goal and hoping to be there in a few weeks. Congratulations.
