New thread.

First post re: lifting heavy.
I mentioned on the other thread about lifting heavy for 6-8 reps and I was told it was bad advice. Clearly it’s not my advice made up by me - it’s from world leading female health doctor expert Stacey Sims. There is plenty online from her (loads of podcasts) so have a listen. I’ve been lifting this way for 3 years since the outset of menopause symptoms, on her advice and I have significantly increased muscle size and strength. She also has written a couple of books which are excellent.

Clearly this can only be done with good form or it will lead to injury. Either use a PT (as suggested on the last thread) or use the resistance machines in the gym which basically lock you into the correct position.

I ordered my next pen (7.5)from MedExpress this morning, received email saying its been dispatched
Sad about price increase but I still have 2 stone to lose, so I guess I'll just have to pay the extra

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 15/08/2025 14:01

I have a full pen which I will be starting tonight, don't have funds to order any more until next week (which is fine as my supplier has said they aren't taking any more orders until next week due to stock issues caused by people stockpiling!). I'll try and order one additional pen at the end of the month to save a bit of money but I'm worried that there won't be any stock left. Depending on the final price rise I might get these two pens at 5mg and stretch it out beyond the 30 days to save a bit of money. Although even without that, if I do manage to get two more pens before the end of August the three I will then have could last 15 weeks which will give me time to save up. I've got at least a year before I'm anywhere close to a healthy BMI so need to look at this as a long term commitment.

Just checking in. W7, D4.

Still on 2.5ml but contemplating going up as my side effects have lessened and appetite suppression is less too.

SW 89.1 kg
CW 85 kg
GW 72 kg

Also worried about price increases and implications.

Some advice please!
Week 4 day 4 for me. For context- still getting very good suppression but some fairly heavy side effects for few days after the jab and occasionally longer so have decided to stay on 2.5.
We are going away in September with adult / teen dc and their partners. Travel day is Jab day. I’d really like to be able to eat out when we are away (moderately) and enjoy an occasional glass of wine, so I think my 3 options are

  1. Jab as usual and suck it up
  2. Stretch out doses by a day each time leading up to going so last jab is about 4 days before travel and then delay return dose- effectively skipping a week but spreading it out
  3. skip a week totally

Totally torn but leaning towards 2 or 3 at moment!

I'm going away in a couple of weeks too and I've decided to stretch out by doing lower doses. I haven't had many side effects but would prefer to not risk it while away so I'll do less clicks on my 5mg pen to make 3.75 - hopefully that will mean done suppression but generally lower level. I've no idea if I've made the right decision but it's my first time away since being on MJ so wanted to balance the risk with not going completely off plan.

I’m going to jab before I go and then skip a week.

i’ve stayed on 2.5mg by doing half doses and now with the prices increases I’m going to continue with this.

I've gone up to 5mg but actually have less suppression so I've bitten the bullet and ordered 7.5, hopefully that will work as I have 2 on order to get ahead of the price rises!

Hi all I'm new to this group I've been using mounjaro for 4 weeks I've just finished 4 weeks at 2.5 but my question is does anyone feel really bloated which is making me feel sick. Most days I feel very bloated and what has people done to get rid off the feeling?

Juls68 · 16/08/2025 08:00

I've read a few post saying to try to keep eating enough calories but I'm struggling to eat much in a day I don't feel like eating or drinking at all. I don't think the bloating and constipation is helping. Can anyone tell me how they felt going on the 5mg jags supposed to be my 1st one tonight, does the constipation get worse?

Juls68 · 16/08/2025 08:36

neveroutofthekitchen · 14/08/2025 12:34

I think there is quite a lot of wheat in that day. The breakfast biscuits are processed. Could you have scrambled eggs/omlette or greek yoghurt and fruit?
Also, pasta. Could you switch it up for wholemeal pasta or lentil pasta? Maybe try a lentil and quinoa mix instead? Merchant Gourmet do a microwaveable pouch.

I'm not eating very much at all I've lost 1st 7lbs in my 1st 4 weeks. I'm not eating breakfast, lunch is a roll and dinner is either a toastie or pork chop and a few wee potatoes. Or chicken stir fry but a tiny amount as I'm bloated and constipated I really don't feel like eating or drinking

It doesn't sound like there is much fruit and veg in that which might explain the constipation and maybe the bloating. Try and focus on protein and veg rather than carbs if you can't eat much.

Do you need to move up? I wouldn't, if I was hardly eating or drinking on 2.5mg. You could always do a half dose.

You aren't taking in anything that's going to get your bowels moving. In your position I'd have half a sachet of brown rice (if you can't be bothered cooking it), fry it up with mushrooms, then add in 2 beaten eggs and a bit of soy to make a really simple egg fried rice. That way you get protein and fibre. Even better have some green veg in it is well (frozen peas?). Eat that over the course of the day.

And measure out a couple of litres of water and take a sip every five minutes. Water's really important to get things moving, especially in a heatwave.

Thanks Rallentanda I've just ordered 5mg but I'm not sure about moving up as you say I'm not eating much but also I'm a bit worried the constipation and bloating will be worse if I move up. Also I've heard most people losing 2 or 3 lbs I've lost 21 lbs if I go up am I going to lose twice as much ( of course I want to lose a lot of weight BMI is 48 ) but not sure it's healthy losing it that fast x

Thanks Renegade I really need to think about what I'm eating but I'm so tired and suffer a lot of pain so I go into auto mode and just eat the same thing half the time or just now not much I have fibromyalgia this is the reason I want to lose weight as well as other reasons

I've read a lot of different experiences of moving up to 5mg, my own experience is I have found the constipation to be the same (I need to keep on top of drinking water to make sure I don't get it, I eat fibre anyway as am lowering cholesterol) but actually I've been a little bit bloated. It's just that we're all so different.

Honestly I think that is rapid weight loss but I am not an expert at all and if you are getting that on 2.5mg then maybe moving up isn't needed? I was advised to go as slow as I could so as not to max out at a high dose too quickly. (Not that any of us will be making it to the highest dose now that the price hikes are in operation.)

That’s really tough. Can you change the no-effort auto meals to be healthier though? Eg a pot of Greek yogurt and some fruit/prunes/muesli for breakfast, I have salad with chicken or fish every day for lunch, maybe you can meal prep on a day you feel a bit better so it’s easy just to grab a set meal from the fridge?

I agree. Also, eating better should make you feel better - part of your lethargy will be due to lack of calories/nutrients

AirborneElephant · 16/08/2025 13:23

I’d also echo that it doesn’t sound like you should move up just yet. With Fibro, you’re going to make it worse if you’re on such a calorie deficit that you’ve lost 1st7 in 4 weeks. Maybe stay the same dose and try to focus on the food side this month?

Just returned from a lovely 2 weeks in Corfu. Having plenty of NSVs, feel much more comfortable in my clothes, have definitely toned up with all the swimming and walking too. Also, the heat in Greece meant that I was guzzling water all day! My loss seems to be slowing on 2.5 and I need to decide whether to move up or not this week. Having said that, I’ve had some lovely (healthy) food in the last fortnight …

CarbyB · 16/08/2025 15:39

Hi everyone, it’s been a while! ❤️ I’ve been super busy since it’s the summer holidays. I am so happy to be seeing everyone’s progress and milestones reached!

Today marks the end of week 7 for me and all in all I have lost 12lbs! I am very happy with this as slow loss is what I had hoped for. I am eating 1700-1800 calories a day and aiming for 120-140 grams of protein daily. Other than this i am not strict with my diet to be honest, i still enjoy the things that i love, just in moderation. I have lost weight rapidly in the past and it doesn’t do my appearance any favours when I lose muscle mass, i end up looking unwell and hollow-faced. This time i intend to build muscle while losing fat. I am also weight training 3 days a week. I am really enjoying my workouts too.

How are you all doing? Any milestones achieved?

afternoon All,

SW 65kg
CW 57.3kg.

On my 3rd 5mg injection so week 7 today.

my weight wasn't the reason why I was put on this it was my diabetes and the very high sugar levels that were not under control even on 2 different insulins and tablets,

I had an episode of diabetic ketoacidosis and spent a time in the emergency room being treated and on ward, alongside this I had a reaction to a new diabetic tablet.

so with very careful advice and instruction under a diabetic specialist they have place me on this drug...

and it is a wonder drug, my weight is coming off ideally they would like me around 7stone (5ft 1in).
my cholesterol levels have lowered.
I'm only on this drug weekly and no other insulins at all.
my other diabetic tablets have also been lowered.

starting Hab1c was 96.
now it's 55...

I'm so sad to hear that some of you may have to stop taking this medication is obviously working for alot of people the prices being increased are very unjustified to say the least.

I've just given in and ordered a two pen bundle from Chemist4U on a credit card to make sure I have some pens in reserve if it all goes tits up. I wasn't wanting to panic buy but I am doing so well I just can't take the risk of being priced out 😥

I don’t blame you. I would too if I had the funds available! I’ve just been approved at the current price for my next pen so I’ll use that and see where I am after that.

@Juls68I agree with the others - you need to eat enough to feel ok. Weight loss is the objective, but it has to be safe weight loss. I have an energy limiting condition too and the temptation to skip meals because I’m not awfully hungry or because I can’t be bothered is strong some days. But if I don’t eat, the side effects are worse, for sure.

I have hEDS that causes chronic pain and fatigue, so I understand that it’s hard to cook meals and easy options are more appealing. I have a bowl of cereal that’s high in fibre, and that helps stop me from being constipated. I ended up going for high fibre food instead of high protein as the constipation was starting to be tricky to deal with (I absolutely hate fybogel and dulcolax gives me awful tummy cramps). I also take vitamins that have magnesium in them too, as I’ve heard that can help constipation.
