New thread.

First post re: lifting heavy.
I mentioned on the other thread about lifting heavy for 6-8 reps and I was told it was bad advice. Clearly it’s not my advice made up by me - it’s from world leading female health doctor expert Stacey Sims. There is plenty online from her (loads of podcasts) so have a listen. I’ve been lifting this way for 3 years since the outset of menopause symptoms, on her advice and I have significantly increased muscle size and strength. She also has written a couple of books which are excellent.

Clearly this can only be done with good form or it will lead to injury. Either use a PT (as suggested on the last thread) or use the resistance machines in the gym which basically lock you into the correct position.

I'm supposed to take my first 5mg jab this evening. Thinking I might go to 3.75mg instead. I've read quite a bit about the 5mg side effects. Last jab was 3.3mg and it's worked very well this week, I've lost about 1.5lbs (I'm happy going slow because I want to give my skin a chance to rebound if possible).

EvelynSalt · 12/08/2025 15:08

Hello everyone! It’s so heartening to read your posts on this thread, such good progress being made.

I have had my first really difficult side effects this week. Same dose, 2.5, but I ate something on Sunday that didn’t agree with me and WOW I was ill! Eventually some Imodium sorted things but I was knocked sideways. I’m also on my period which usually does odd things to my tummy anyway, so I think it was just a perfect storm.

I had been questioning myself on staying at 2.5 but now glad I did, as I would have most likely blamed the jab if I’d have gone up to 5.

Another one on week 2 of 5 mg and it feels like it’s doing nothing. I’m so hungry and getting zero suppression. Very disappointing and definitely moving up next time

What are you eating? Either way that’s very annoying

I’m sure I’d feel better if I could just do a big poo 😂

I have taken my final dose of my first 5mg pen. 5mg is working really well for me so I’m sticking to it. I don’t want more suppression since I’m having a hard time eating enough at the moment

Doireallywanttodothis · 12/08/2025 21:01

Went up to 5mg this Sunday (currently W5 D2) after doing 3.75mg last week. Getting good suppression with very few side effects so all good. Annoyingly the lack of interest in alcohol has completely wained (I was a big daily drinker previously and had been delighted by this) but am managing to use will-power to massively curb my drinking.

Had been annoyed that my weight had plateaued for a week but got on the scale this morning and 2lb had dropped off so that's a stone down. Just another five to go...

Have also bought a second hand Peloton bike. Very early days but have been doing a variety of workouts on that daily and am loving it so far. Feels great to be finally taking control of my health.

Beachcomber81 · 13/08/2025 05:10

I took my first 5mg on Saturday and will drop back to 3.75mg this week.
It’s working for sure but the side effects are debilitating at the moment. I haven’t had stomach issues but I can’t overstate how tired I am. I can’t physically do half of what I could pre MJ, my muscles are screaming, I can’t concentrate for brain fog and I could sleep all day (if not for working!) I feel like I’ve been hit by a train.

please someone else say they feel/felt similarly? I keep reading how people are strength training and hitting the gym and i barely seem to have the strength to move a plant pot!

Kittkats · 13/08/2025 07:22

@Beachcomber81 are you drinking enough? I feel the same if I slip under 2litres since being on MJ. Took my first 5mg on Friday and so far so good. Felt tired Tuesday afternoon but half a litre of water woke me up!

NaranjaDreams · 13/08/2025 10:03

I'm debating whether to go up from 2.5mg... I'd appreciate any thoughts!

I had my fourth dose yesterday and have lost 2.5kg, which isn't loads but is pretty decent, and I'm not having any side effects. I had a baby not too long ago, and have been carrying some weight for a while, so I'm happy enough with being 10%-ish down... but it would be nice to get there faster, too!

I am trying to decide too. I could not tolerate Wegovy or Ozempic as nausea was ruining my life.

I have had my 4th 2.5 mg injection. Food noise is not too bad but feeling a bit hungry. I had 2 days of nausea after third 2.5 mg jab.

I have lost 1 stone 3 lbs...

Thinking of possibly going to 3.75 mg

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 13/08/2025 11:20

For me, I decided to stay at 2.5mg as I was finding it easy to keep a significant calorie deficit without feeling deprived or hungry between meals. I think it's worth remembering that it is the calorie deficit that makes you lose weight, not the drug. So if you're finding it hard to keep a good deficit and that's why you're not losing, then go up. If you're comfortably eating at a deficit and losing slowly then maybe that's just what your body is meant to do.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 13/08/2025 11:21

I also didn't want to lose my hunger completely as I think it's important to keep the link between hunger/satiety and food - resetting my relationship with food so that I eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full will help me maintain in the long run

Muppies65 · 13/08/2025 14:17

I was in 2 minds to go to 5 but used my last 2 doses of 2.5 to do a 3.75 , it's been ok suppression is back and no bad SE going to do 5 next jab

Yes I’m the same but I ordered a 5mg pen which I am using 30 clicks. I’m losing 1kg each week and as of today only 2kg from goal. I’m taking my 8th dose tomorrow. 5 from first pen and I’ve taken 2 (half doses) so far from 2nd. I have some hunger but minimal find it so easy to stick to my deficit as reduced hunger. I’m enjoying my food and only side effects is tendency towards constipation (now using movicol). Normally by this point (close to goal) I give up as constantly hungry.

So get the 5mg jab and decide later. Can also split dose (eg 2.5mg but every 4 or 5 days).

@MeridaBrave thanks. Sounds like a good idea.

CookieQueen1986 · 13/08/2025 16:16

So does anyone think they’ll be jumping up to 7.5mg once their 5mg pen runs out?!

I will be , but hoping to stay on that then a fair while.
I still have almost 3 stone to lose

Catladyof7 · 13/08/2025 17:21

MeridaBrave · 11/08/2025 09:53

He’ll be angry with me as he thinks WLI are the lazy way out. He’s 19, works out and thinks if he can do a cut to drop bodyfat so can I. Anyway he’s off on holiday soon and back to uni soon enough.

Needs to educate himself better then. This is far from an “ easy way out “
Bloody annoying people that think that .
I am having to be very strict , 1000 calories a day etc …thats not easy and very patronising for people to think that .
We dont take the injection and wake up thin !
I wish !
Its bloody hard work

I haven’t. I got another 5mg pen since it’s working well for me

Newbie53 · 13/08/2025 19:31

Hi, this is my second time trying Mounjaro as after a while i couldnt afford it. I have started again 3 months ago and have lost 1 stone. I am getting a burning/ strange feeling in my stomach depending on what I eat. Also having heartburn all the time. I had 1 day recently of diarrhoea and vomited once. My next dose is 7.5mg and I'm not sure if I should go up?? Has anyone had any of these side effects and what did you do ? How do I get my stomach to settle ?
