New thread.

First post re: lifting heavy.
I mentioned on the other thread about lifting heavy for 6-8 reps and I was told it was bad advice. Clearly it’s not my advice made up by me - it’s from world leading female health doctor expert Stacey Sims. There is plenty online from her (loads of podcasts) so have a listen. I’ve been lifting this way for 3 years since the outset of menopause symptoms, on her advice and I have significantly increased muscle size and strength. She also has written a couple of books which are excellent.

Clearly this can only be done with good form or it will lead to injury. Either use a PT (as suggested on the last thread) or use the resistance machines in the gym which basically lock you into the correct position.

wk6 day 2 (2nd 5mg).
TOTAL loss 6.1kg around 2.3lb for the week.

took jab around 8pm last night slept really well and so far no side affects.
this week I deffo have eaten more and felt so much better for it, even if I didn't feel hungry I still had something with protein.

sugar level are rising at times but not enough to still warrant a insulin jab, also my very very bad trapped wind/burps resolved themselves by midweek.

eating more has defo improved the bowel movements i had no problem in two weeks.

I hope everyone is still going strong.

@MeridaBravethats what I'm thinking. I take the Monday as usual then take the second 2.5 when we get back on the Friday, so Friday becomes my new day. It also solves the problem of needing my next delivery to arrange either before I go or the day we get back. I'm cautious of arranging it early in case it gets delayed then arrives while we're away (I'm also paranoid about things like power cuts even though I know it's unlikely!)

Yes. Wait and see how next 2 weeks pans out. I’m very conscious that I don’t want my teenage DC to know, so I’ll probably end up eating a little more on holiday. It’s quite normal for me to say no to an ice cream but wouldn’t be normal for me not to eat dinner.

I haven't told my teen DS either. He's aware I' lm eating differently but I've just said I'm trying to be healthier. I started weight lifting last year so he just assumed it's all part of me improving my general health and fitness.

So my friend & her family came to stay this week, on the way back from a holiday. She left her husband’s medicine in the fridge but unlike my MJ (which is behind the dog pate I use for the dog’s medicine and the fungal cream from ages ago that needs to be in the fridge, it’s hidden well at the top of the spare fridge in the utility room) she left it in the normal fridge at the front. Anyway DS saw it and confronted me, asking if it’s mine. I was able to say no, it’s not (he asked - are you taking Wegovy, and I am not, I’m taking mournjaro). He’s a bit of a gym bro who does bulks and cuts and he had a rant about about it.

Oh bless you, do you think he would be upset or angry that you're taking it.
DS is only 13 and a huge worrier so I'm.not telling him as I know he'll be straight on Google looking for anything that could go wrong!

W6 D1 injection day

SW 98.8k
CW 92.7k
GW 65k
First week on 5mg and it's been ok. Still not as much suppression as the first couple of weeks but enough to keep my appetite in check. Weight loss is fairly slow but I'm trying to reframe that as a positive in my head - slow and steady is sustainable. I'm hoping that still feeling some hunger and needing to use will power and self control will help me to manage maintaining the weight loss better when the time comes! Hope everyone is doing well 😊

Rallentanda · 11/08/2025 09:41

I had a bit of a Mumsnet break (tried to leave my phone alone! So hard!) but I'm back now and am so pleased with my weight loss. Since starting, I've nearly lost a stone. I spent the first 3 weeks logging my calories quite obsessively but gave that up as I could see how much I needed to eat and where protein was coming from etc, so it feels like I have hardly even been trying. I've lost 2.5 inches off my waist. It's all slow and steady. Last week I took the 'golden dose' of 3.3mg, so this week is my first 5mg dose.

I have been finding that appetite suppression varies a lot. Some days I feel quite snacky and others I can hardly finish a plate of food. It seems really up and down with me. So long as I can accept that, and use a bit of willpower, that's ok. (And maybe 5mg will stop it.)

It's no exaggeration to say that I have been trying to lose these first 6 kg since 2022. I'd go down 2kg, up 2 kg, add more exercise, get completely disheartened, weigh myself two weeks later and find another kg had gone on, lose that, back to square one. Completely disheartening. Bloody peri menopause.

He’ll be angry with me as he thinks WLI are the lazy way out. He’s 19, works out and thinks if he can do a cut to drop bodyfat so can I. Anyway he’s off on holiday soon and back to uni soon enough.

Hi everyone how do you use the golden dose? Do you do exactly the same as with other injections? For MJ do you go to 1 or past that?

I had a look on r/mounjarouk (the Reddit forum) and found a good run-down of how to do it. I think the newer pens are designed so you can't get into them, but you get a syringe (easy to order online) and you get it out through the tip of the pen. I hesitate to give instructions as I'm not a medically-trained person but if you go and look on there you can find all the relevant info. It was dead easy btw!

I bought standalone sterile needles online, and extracted the liquid. 1 dose is 0.6ml so you need 1ml needles. If you are going up a dose anyway you can use the whole amount left which is around 0.9ml (ie for a 2.5mg pen that’s equiv to 3.75mg.

Some have managed to force the mechanism and use the regular pen needles but others say it doesn’t work and the pen breaks. I decided not even to try.

OP posts:
Rallentanda · 11/08/2025 11:13

Yes I did the same, I just realised my post is badly written. Instead of "so you can't get into them" I meant "so you can't force them". You get in through the tip of the pen with a syringe - dead easy.

Ah, the arrogance of youth! Hopefully at some point he’ll learn a little more tolerance and understanding.

AirborneElephant · 11/08/2025 11:51

Weigh in day today. Only lost 0.5kg this week, but I did put on 0.4 kg since yesterday which I’m pretty sure is bloating because I drank far too much wine last night! In any case that’s another lb, so happy with that. I’ve knocked my dose down from 5mg to 3.75mg so will see how I get on with that this week.

Oh that's youthful confidence right there! I probably thought that at that age, then I had a baby and became menopausal 🤣

Nellieinthebarn · 11/08/2025 13:38

A small non scale victory!! I am now tolerating an underwired bra. They had got so uncomfortable sitting on a roll of fat I had to go over to non wired ones, and suffer mono-boob syndrome, that made me look even fatter.

CloudyYellow · 11/08/2025 17:02

Thanks for the info. Not sure I could do that.

W4D2 nausea from 2.5 MJ gone but starving and food noise back. Provider has suggested staying on 2.5 mg but there is no point. Cannot believe how quickly things changed...

Had a bit of a break from posting here as I've been on holiday the last two weeks. I was worried about the people we were going with finding my pen too, and also timing delivery of pen #2 for when we got back - jab day just before we went then skipped a week, reluctantly. I won't do that again - not wanting ice cream and treats was so freeing! Bought nice coffees and gift shop trinkets instead. Week 2 of hol, found it harder to avoid pub meals as that's what everyone wanted that week, but hopefully not too off track. Only 5lb down before hols (maybe I'm a slow loser) and a bit eek about weighing in tomorrow, but one more dose in the first pen and another 2.5ml pen on the way - no rush to go up!

It's funny because the subject of jabs did come up, chatting to our friends on hol. I was right about their opinions. It's the hot topic this summer, it seems!

On balance I think it’s ok to enjoy your holiday! When you get to maintenance it will be inevitable that there will be some weight gain on holiday or Christmas but it’s about getting back on track afterwards. I’m planning to do the same; miss a week as not taking the pen with.

I think the Mounjaro has stopped working.

Since yesterday, the hunger suppression has disappeared. I’m starving and I’m not getting full up. I didn’t expect this mid way through of week 2 of 5mg. WTF is going on?!

Im also mega constipated which is making me feel very bloated and miserable

ByLemonFish · 12/08/2025 11:06

I'm also on wk 2 of 5mg and feeling hungry. I'm managing to still be sensible but it's disappointing after paying so much money
Think I'll increase to 7.5 next pen
I'm also constipated using fybogel but not really helping

I wish I could say I was being sensible but i haven’t been. I’ve not been going crazy but I’ve definitely been eating more carbs.
So disappointing isn’t it!
I’ll guess I’ll be making the jump to 7.5mg next month too…

I’ve also noticed less suppression but I’ve not gone up from 2.5mg and I’m still managing to stick to a deficit, and I’m still losing. Tbh I have only got 2kg more to go, and so I expected it to slow down.

And although there is less suppression I do still get full much more quickly so still eating less. I had a bad stomach ache yesterday but it was due to constipation which I have now dealt with.

OP posts:
Rallentanda · 12/08/2025 13:22

I find suppression really varies a lot, and some days I could graze all day, like I wanted to before. Except I really can't eat a lot in one go, so I know the drug is working.
