The amount of cheating the system is scary

I find it so concerning how many people on here and beyond are perfectly happy to cheat the system to get MJ e.g. people taking photos of their scales while holding a weight behind their back so they look heavier. Another example is a friend of mine who knows someone finishing MJ so she's going to buy her remaining pens off her. She only needs to lose a stone and is on no way in need of weight loss injections.

It's also concerning the amount of people giving medical advice on here when they are in no way qualified or experienced e.g advising people on supplements to take, advising people to count clicks etc.

Then those that are in 1000+ calorie deficit a day.

It's all just so completely unregulated and rather worrying.

I know I'll get slated. I'm on MJ legitimately myself and need it. I just worry that the more this stuff happens the more likely it is that people will get seriously ill. I also worry they'll make the process so difficult that it'll put off people who genuinely need it.

I have zero objections but equally I don’t object or see issue with someone whose BMI is below 30 going from overweight to healthy.

It isn’t about anyone having issue with who is medically eligible to be prescribed, it is a balance of risks assessed by those medically qualified to make those decisions for patients safety.

No one would object to anyone being prescribed if their health risks make it a suitable treatment for them. We have a prescription only medication system to keep patients safe from harm from high risk medications (which Mounjaro is classified as). The risks from taking the medication are higher than being overweight (with no weight related health issues).

I'm chuckling that many of us flap when our pen arrives room temp with a melted ice pack, while others are happily buying JounMaro and Fozempic from dodgy Dave down the pub 😁

Oh mine gets sent to me with full instructions 😂😂

I know I can’t believe that goes on! It’s not like it’s liquid gold. It’s what, £150 - 200 pcm? I’d imagine most people would save that on their food bill!

I pay 65 for what most pay 150 for ozempic
and if I wanted a20 Mg pen of MJ for 105 -125 inc next day P&P depending on what discount code I use

bloody efficient they are 😂

TickyandTacky · 22/07/2025 09:53

I think the problem for me is that is adds to the notion that they aren't safe and then the perceived risks are increased and rules around prescribing are tightened impacting those who are legitimately eligible.

Sadly there’s always people taking the piss with everything in life ruining it for the good people.

I know two people who lied and are now deep in the throes of their eating disorders, with kidney disease.

Wonkypictureframe · 22/07/2025 20:05

I have lost 5 stones on MJ from BMI 33 and almost a year on am keeping it off fairly well with the odd month of low dose maintenance, all prescribed. I find myself unable to be moved morally much by people using it under BMI 30 tbh. If I had been in their position, after struggling with my weight all my life, I’d have been sorely tempted.

However buying it off any old person scares the shit out of me. There is all sorts out there. There are enormous supply chain issues with fake MJ in the US through pharmacies (so far the UK legit supply is thought to be OK) and they stick any old crap in it. Any generic stuff could easily come from a bad source, let alone unlabelled phials. A nurse friend (surely we all have one?) working in urgent care says they are seeing a worrying number of people there with the effects of fake MJ. Often insulin, which can kill if you are unlucky.

But a dodgy GP or pharmacist, or a medical rep, or a bloke who also sells crack cocaine from a Honda civic!

Focusispower · 22/07/2025 20:22

@Crikeyalmighty I actually think that I was seeing some kind of insulin resistance. I also did find it hard to (whilst eating healthy meals) not to snack out of tiredness. I am 45, hitting perimenopause and have a toddler and primary school aged kids. I could eat for maintenance but I really struggled to drop into a deficit without feeling starving, craving unhealthy food, and stressed.

since starting MJ the positive things for me have been:

  • improved gut health. No more bloating, healthy bowel movements, the rank farts I experienced around my period each month have not happened (DH is relived!)
  • better ability to distinguish thirst from hunger and drinking lots more
  • less sugar and snack cravings
  • fuller after smaller meals
  • able to fast for periods
  • calmer generally - not sure why but feel good in myself
  • also not suffering from brain fog like I had been.
it has felt like such a gift tbh and even better, I’ve now lost around 12lb in coming up to 6 weeks.

It’s a friend that does discount codes though, and can get 20mg Mounjaro pens…. Sounds interesting.

Glitchymn1 · 22/07/2025 20:23

Meadowfinch · 22/07/2025 10:28

You shouldn't worry, you can't medicate against stupid.

We now know about them causing pancreatitis and problems with contraception. There will be other long term side affects we don't know about.

Yet people are willing to take this stuff without the guidance of a doctor. And you can be sure when they develop other issues, they won't tell their GP they have been illegally sourcing prescription drugs.

Quite apart from those ordering God knows what off the internet who may not be receiving the real drug in the first place.

I agree there will be an epidemic of related health problems, when cooking from scratch, a sensible diet and moderate exercise would solve the issue without the risk.

All of this. God help the NHS.

Freeflight · 22/07/2025 20:24

@JustPinkFinch I'm not sure comparing it to victorian medicine is worth anything. They also used chloroform to perform surgery, it's not really comparable 😂.
If people choose to take a prescribed medicine against prescription (either through faking their weight or via a non legal route) then that's their choice.
Just not something I would do. But there are other risks in life that I would take and others wouldn't.
We all make choices and we are responsible for the consequences of those. We just have to own the decisions we make.

I’m surprised a lot on here by the amount of people on it who only want to lose two stone. I’m not sure I’d risk the side effects for that level of loss.

I'm 53, male3, obese, have a family history of vascular and heart disease, cancer and diabetes. I have two children and I want to see them have kids too. I only need to lose 2 stone to be much healthier and improve my life and health chances, but have struggled massively to do so. My pens are prescribed by a pharmacist with total honesty. I get it because it is indicated and in the long run will save a shed load of money for the NHS.

I'm lucky and have had no side effects whatsoever - but even if I did, I would accept them for the chance to not die early.

I think your view is a bit simplistic and a bit un-nuanced.

SilenceInside · 22/07/2025 20:28

“God help the NHS”? I’m helping the NHS by no longer being morbidly obese, as are thousands of other people who are taking these medications legitimately. It’s been approved for roll out by the NHS, whenever they get round to actually implementing it, because they are happy that the net results will be cost effective.

SilenceInside · 22/07/2025 20:29

@Wonkypictureframe that’s my point…..

Sorry! I only saw your post. No harm I guess in repeating it if it saves someone injecting god knows what into themselves.

BlankBlankBlank14 · 22/07/2025 20:30

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 22/07/2025 10:07

it doesn't affect you. People do far worse things to their bodies than lose weight on WLIs. I'm nowhere near the required BMI but took them to lose my last stone of baby weight and felt/feel great.

Edited

How did you get them?

Glitchymn1 · 22/07/2025 20:23

All of this. God help the NHS.

You and the genius you quote sound remarkably unconcerned about the problems the NHS face from dealing with obesity that exist because your proposed solution doesn't work.

Just goes to show, there are lots of different ways to be stupid.

Eli Lilly doesn’t manufacture 20mg pens (the patent holders) and 20mg is not on the dosing schedule approved by NICE or any other health authority in the world. So what you have is definitely fake for a start and a higher dosage that has ever been approved for use if it is actually the active ingredient.

SilenceInside · 22/07/2025 20:32

@ChrisMartinsKisskam you don’t know what you’re being given, the one thing it’s not is legitimate Mounjaro as manufactured by Eli Lilly. The fact you’ve not had any problems yet is not a guarantee that what you’re being dealt is safe. It just means it hasn’t harmed you or anyone you know, yet.

as I said I am perfect happy with what I take I’ve kept my weight stable at under 9 stone for over a year I think
maybe 15 months
I’m not interested in what other think or say about fake / not legal
they work just as well as the pharmacy ones
and that’s all that I’m interested in

Wonkypictureframe · 22/07/2025 20:34

Until you get a bad one. Ultimately it’s your risk.
