Put on weight on mounjaro

Kellyklara · 12/07/2025 11:42

I have been on mounjaro for two months. 2.5mg.

I don't feel like I have been eating anymore than normal.

I have put ON five pounds. It is very annoying.

I already wrote why I started this thread. It was to share my experience. It's not that deep.

Do you always take life so seriously?

Like I said bye you really aren’t worth the time

The weight loss threads are often very unfriendly but that’s MN for you. Lots of dubious, judgy know alls!

I hope you find something that works that is more effective for you OP.

I did lose some weight - not much - but haven’t found it that effective - and at nearly £200 per month plus a couple of side effects I’m wondering too if it’s worth it. I might finish the pens I have and think about another non WLI strategy. It’s a shame as I know for some people WLIs are like an immediate miracle and solution for them and quite a few others find it at least very helpful.

friendlycat · 13/07/2025 00:30

If it’s not for you, it’s not for you.

Some people don’t find it worthwhile. That’s your decision to make.

MeridaBrave · 13/07/2025 17:09

It’s quite common to gain some water weight when you start exercising particularly if weight lifting.

However, eating in a deficit for 2 months should have resulted in fat loss. I’m enjoying not tracking, I’m eating in a deficit, def less than normal. I’ve started on 2.5 but intend to go up to 5 as the suppression only lasts 3-4 days.

bumblebee3122 · 13/07/2025 19:07

I didn't lose on 2.5mg. I was told that it's just a baby dose and not a therapeutic dose. It's designed to get your body used to the drug but isn't classed as a therapeutic dose that will do anything.

I stayed on 5 for 8 weeks cos I had some side effects but I moved up easily from 2.5. I've just started 7.5 today and whether I have side effects will depend how long I stay on it before I move up.

Maybe try a calorie counting app. I like Nutracheck.

Good luck

Talkingdonut · 13/07/2025 19:08

You need to go up a dose. Some people don't lose until they are on 7.5 or 10mg doses.

I have put the packet of strawberries and the soup into my calorie tracker app

I will have the same soup later aswell for dinner. I have put that into the app

I put in the exercise that i did today in the calorie tracker app too. I went to the gym earlier for 40 minutes. I went for a walk for an hour. I also did another 30 mins cardio of dancing.

It is showing that i should be in a calorie deficit for today.

Do you think some bodies just cling onto weight more? Or lose it slower because of a slow metabolism

If you eat too little, your body will go into 'store' mode.

No it won't, this is a myth

Presterjohn71 · 13/07/2025 19:30

My partner has also not lost any weight. The problem is though is she's completely delusional about what she eats. She is currently addicted to Nuttela ice-cream and can easily eat a tub per day. Those injections are not a magic bullet you still have to watch what you eat and be 100% honest with yourself.

BoredZelda · 13/07/2025 19:33

“I took half a paracetamol and it didn’t get rid of my headache, so I’m never having paracetamol every again”

Presterjohn71 · 13/07/2025 19:47

You seem to be doing everything wrong. You started to day eating sugar for a start. Fruit makes for a terrible breakfast it's basically sugary water by the time it gets to your liver. After that you move on to more liquid. Give yourself a chance!! Start your day with a 3 egg omelette, have a chicken salad for lunch and fish and vegetables for dinner. The main thing though is to be honest with yourself.

Biggles27 · 13/07/2025 19:51

People don’t believe that you can be in a calorie deficit and gain weight. Well I bloody well can. Get your thyroid checked op. That’s the root of my problem. But do i know the answer no. Do I believe you - absolutely. It sucks

Yes if you have lipodema, I can’t lose any weight no matter what I do

Notforbeef · 13/07/2025 20:23

Kellyklara · 12/07/2025 16:40

No I don't, "obviously need to move up".

No one has to stay on any medication, if they don't want to.

I have decided to stop taking it. It is not cost effective for me, and I don't want to spend more money for higher doses. The huge pricre of Mounjaro is not worth it, in my opinion

Even if it works at a higher dose, I have lost more weight before through using other methods. So I do not want to take it anymore.

But 2.5 is not a therapeutic dose... many don't lose on that dose as its aim is to get your body used to such medication.

TheArtfulNavyDreamer · 13/07/2025 20:38

Are you okay OP? You do seem quite stressy, defensive and a bit all over the place. A lot of people don’t lose on the lower doses so it’s really too early to say it doesn’t work for you when you have yet to move up to a therapeutic dose. If you were losing weight effectively before then why did you choose to try it? I did because it made me stay consistent and I was struggling to stick long term to diets but like others have said you do need to be in a deficit. I’ve averaged a steady loss of 1lb a week which I wasn’t doing before Mounjaro. How did the weight gain happen. Has it been week by week or in one go? If people have blood sugar issues then they also seem to find that the medication seems to work to correct that before they see the weight loss side effects. Anyway good luck with whatever path you go down.

Kellyklara · 12/07/2025 16:23

So why does the calorie counting app specifically ask me to input what exercise I have done that day?

I use nutra check and damned right I add the calories in from exercise

some days I’ll burn 1000 in exercise, I need fuel to cope with that.

how often are you weighing? Some people are weird about this and only weigh once a week or whatever. I don’t recommend this as some times we’ll retain water and that skews the figures

for example, 3 days ago I was 69kg

today I’m 70. Have I put on a kilo? No, I haven’t hydrated enough probably with all this hot weather. Plus we had wine at the weekend.

How is your appetite suppression ?if you haven’t got much/enough it’s time to move up to 5mg.

around 7.5 and above is the medicinal dose, and once you’re on that or 10mg you can stay on that until you need to.

of course you don’t have to move up if you’re losing weight at 2.5, but you’re not so

big push on the water,
weigh every day.
Track calories and make sure your TDEE is accurate.
Make sure you’re eating enough too. Focus on protein

I’ve been on MJ a year next week. Only now I’ve moved up to 15

im 10kg away from target.

dont give up, but make sure it’s working properly for you!

I think the calorie estimates for exercise are very inaccurate. It’s not a great idea to eat exercise calories. I mean yes if you’ve done a lot of exercise maybe allow yourself an extra 200 calories but eating back 1000 calories (even if the fitbit says you did that) will lead to weight gain.

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 14/07/2025 06:42

I can only speak for myself but I find the activity calories calculated by my Fitbit (as distinct from estimates provided by Nutracheck or similar) very accurate. I’ve lost nine stone by eating within a deficit as calculated by it. I do think it’s common for people to overestimate their activity levels unless they are wearing a decent fitness tracker.

You can hold up to 5lb in water when hormonal, if the weather is hot through retention or other reasons, so you may lose the water weight. If its not that, then you do need to understand calories for longterm health. If its 5lb in a week, it's likely water weight. Some poeple have a harder time to.lose weight If they are high in estrogen too. But you dont gain in a calorie deficit, but a deficit is over a week, if you eat all the spare calories on the weekend, you've blown the whole week.

Weight every morning, same time, before food and drink and after the loo, then, look at the weight over the week.

Ireallywantadoughnut36 · 14/07/2025 10:47

Might it just be water retention. I find I put on several pounds if;
It's hot
I'm due on my period
I do exercise (day of and day after)
I'm ovulating

So a lot of the time basically! Especially hot weather, I find when it cools down I automatically drop potentially up to 7 pounds really fast, and I think it's just my body holding water to stop me over heating.
It sounds like you're not happy with Mounjaro, it doesn't work for everyone and no shame coming off if you want.

finalpunt · 14/07/2025 13:43

magicpant · 12/07/2025 13:36

MJ won’t cause you to gain weight so you need to explore the cause, I would agree you should probably stop using it if it isn’t working for you and you can lose weight without it.

Im interested in the recommendations of the provider here though, I have used MJ for 8 months and have very several suppliers and I have always chosen my dose. There has never been any discussion or questions about it, I choose.

When I went to order my 2nd pen I tried to stay on 2.5 but it said it wasn't a recommended dose and I would have to declare that I was happy to go off recommended prescription guides
