Disappointed with Mounjaro

India4 · 09/07/2025 12:56

this is my 5 week on Mounjaro, I moved up a dose on Monday. My appetite is suppressed which I am grateful for, no sickness or upset tum in fact I’m constipated! My issue is this, I have only lost 1 st in these weeks despite calorie deficit …is this normal ? I really thought I would lose a lot quickly.
Sorry to sound so negative but looking for advice to quell my ignorance &
fristration.

Are you reading the responses properly? Why do you keep saying you haven't lost a stone then posting your stats that show you've lost a stone?

You haven't stopped losing weight. Are you expecting to see the scales go down every single day?!

I have made it clear that I was 14st 6 now 13st 5….fail to see what your issue is with this!!

Because you responded 'absolutely not' and 'no' to that poster who said you lost a stone in 5 weeks.

Foreverm0re · 09/07/2025 19:51

You’ve had a good loss. God, the amount of people who seem to do zero research before starting is staggering.

I must say the comments on here have really helped me, everyone states the same …just 1/2lb per week seems standard…I expected too much. Your going to be very slim shortly so try to be patient albeit difficult.

i can already see it, my favourite jeans are so baggy they look awful. I’ve dropped a back and Cup size in my bras, clothes that were too tight are now fitting or too loose. Gone from a 16 to 14. My aim is actually around a size 12 as I know I can maintain that size easier - got 6 lbs to my first goal and then maybe another 7lbs sort of puts me at the top end of a healthy weight. I’m no longer obese and now in the overweight category 32 to 28 on my bmi

And its sickening, he is so sad and saying why didn't she just do slimming world like she usually does!

I suspect she started Mounjaro because slimming world didn’t actually work for her going by what her son has said.

And would you care to share why you’re under the impression that people aren’t eating a nutritionally sound diet on Mounjaro. Personally I’m on 1500 calories a day - way more than I’d have at SW.

Or you could perhaps just admit that you know nothing about Mounjaro as that’s what your post is screaming loud and clear.

I only know its dangerous to take it for some of these unfortunate people who have had bad side effects. Really only diet and exercise is the way to sustainable health.

Histoscientist · 09/07/2025 21:19

I was also prediabetic which made my losses slow at 1lbs a week on average. I've now lost 3 stones in 9 months and on Monday reached a normal bmi. I have no saggy skin issues and retained more muscle than if I had lost faster. With prediabetes I needed the higher doses from 10mg to correct my blood sugar symptoms, but now I feel like a new person. Keep going and calculate your tdee and calorie deficit and focus on protein to avoid muscle loss.

So, it’s as I thought. You heard about someone who became ill whilst using Mounjaro, so you posted here to sensationalise and take advantage of another persons illness health in order to condemn Mounjaro whilst not knowing anything about it in real terms.

What do you think people on Mounjaro are doing? Giving themselves an injection that makes them melt into a puddle of dissolved fat when they go to bed at night?

You really do need educate yourself a whole lot more on the use of Mounjaro and all it entails.

An excellent post Histo, thank you.

I also had obesity related health issues, I was prediabetic for the second time, I had first stage high BP that was medicated and in the year running up to starting Mounjaro my previous excellent cholesterol deteriorated to a scary extent.

I was always an excerciser and I think that’s what helped delay the onset of my health problems but here I am 4 stone lighter 11 months after starting Mounjaro. My blood sugar is now excellent as is my cholesterol, and on the 12th of August I should be told to stop taking my BP medication.

Dose wise - I worked my way up very slowly to two weeks on 12.5 before going back down to 10 a couple of weeks ago as it exhausted me and gave me acid reflux. Its where I’ll stay.

Target - it’s never been my intention to get to even the top of my BMI as I have muscles from my long term exercising and I’ve never believed in BMI as a rule of thumb - I have size 10 feet which is a very good indication of my build. I also have dexa scans for my pre osteoporosis and I believe my Drs when they tell me 83-85 kg is a good weight for me. I’m currently 87.

Wrinkly skin? Yep, I have wrinkly skin on my body and will probably have an arm lift done but at 67 I had wrinkly skin even before Mounjaro so it’s not something I’m concerned about or blaming Mounjaro for.

TDEE - I’ve been on about 1450 - 1500 calories since day 1 and it’s only this last 2-3 weeks the scales haven’t moved. I’m not going to readjust my calories just yet as I’ve been housebound for 2 weeks with a badly sprained ankle that’s made moving very difficult and I think it’s this that’s played a big part in what coukd be called a stall. I’ve hardly done 800 steps a day but I’ve still been getting to the gym, I go in a taxi, and my personal trainer has devised a sitting down/upper body only workout for me.

it was lovely reading your post.

Well done for exercising. It is important for maintaining muscle. I do regret not exercising regularly but I work long hours, out of the house 11-12hrs a day 5 days a week due to working in the nhs and a long commute. I will have to pick it up when I taper down, I've just hit top of normal bmi but I'm 5ft 3 so any weight makes a big difference on my frame.

Like yourself I also had high BP 145/92 only a few months before mounjaro and 107/78 3 weeks after starting so it wasn't due to fat loss but mounjaro itself.
Well done on your 4 stone loss, that's amazing and great to hear about the improvements in BP, blood sugar and cholesterol 👏
The exhaustion is due to interruption of dopamine pathway, Ive had severe exhaustion which has stopped me from doing tasks or leaving the house on weekends and days off and I recently found L tyrosine which converts to dopamine and its been a life saver for me. I'm back to being happy and energetic and getting tasks done that i procrastinated with for months!
I do hope your ankle heals soon, it's commendable that you are still getting to the gym ✨️

Lazygardener · 10/07/2025 07:29

I had 5 stone to lose when I started in September. I lost a stone in the first month as I reacted immediately to 2.5 mg. I was absolutely delighted, as you should be. After that, my weight loss has been 1 - 2 lbs a week, which is sustainable and sensible. If you continued to lose at the rate of a stone a month, you would need to be starving yourself and would have some nasty side effects.

threeeggsontoast · 10/07/2025 08:47

I’m learning that the ‘secret’ to healthy, sustainable weight loss (for me, at least) is to take MJ and then do my best to forget about it, learning to eat only when I’m hungry and stopping when I’m full. I’m on W8 and I’ve been a bit obsessed with the scales and actually, it’s doing me no good, just reinforcing ‘diet culture’ in my head. I stuck religiously to my plan last week - 1200 cals a day, 2-3lts of water, walking etc and was gutted this morning to have gained 0.6 of a pound. Like….whaaat? I think my obsession is not helping! Of course everyone is different but if this is to be a new way of life for me then I need to stop hyper focusing on losses and focus on fuelling my body with good food (obviously being mindful of a calorie deficit).

So I think OP that your losses are brilliant but this shouldn’t be seen as a quick fix. Quick fixes almost inevitably lead to quick regains. I know - I’ve previously done them all!

MyHouseInThePrairie · 10/07/2025 09:02

It makes sense @threeeggsontoast

Stress negatively impacts sugar regulation and weight loss. So if you’re always looking at all what you’re eating, and stressing about it, it won’t help.
Thats the same reason why over exercising can stop weight loss too.

@India4 when you say you are desperate, presumably you mean desperate to lose weight? Can I ask where the urgency and desperation are coming from? Is it a health issue, or something else?

I have been obese for so long, I looked at Mounjaro as a wonder drug that would transform me in a month…I have now read others comments which have helped me realise exactly how it works & how much more tolerant I should/must be.

Oh my goodness
Usually those of us who struggle with weight are the most informed about calories, deficits etc. I find it scary that you thought you could lose stones and stones of fat in a month. How did you think that was possible?

Weepixie · 10/07/2025 10:51

It doesn’t matter. The reality is that India has realised her way of thinking was wrong and today is her fresh start. We need to encourage her now. Not knock any new found confidence and understanding she has.

Looneytune253 · 10/07/2025 10:58

That is really a lot. The first few doses are just to ease you in to be fair. I lost about 8lb a month for the first 3/4 months then I went up to 7.5 and weight started dropping off. I lost 10lb in 2 weeks. Probably too much to be fair. Slow and steady wins the race

KrankyKumquat · 10/07/2025 11:00

@Weepixie
Well said. The op has said repeatedly that she misunderstood how quickly she would lose weight, has acknowledged and taken on board everyone's comments and now has more realistic expectations. Job done!
