Disappointed with Mounjaro

India4 · 09/07/2025 12:56

this is my 5 week on Mounjaro, I moved up a dose on Monday. My appetite is suppressed which I am grateful for, no sickness or upset tum in fact I’m constipated! My issue is this, I have only lost 1 st in these weeks despite calorie deficit …is this normal ? I really thought I would lose a lot quickly.
Sorry to sound so negative but looking for advice to quell my ignorance &
fristration.

The maximum people can lose in a week is around 2lb. That’s the equivalent or almost 7000 calories, or a constant 1000 calorie deficit. Anything more than that is either water weight (especially those initial “8lb in the first week” type posts), or is starting to get seriously dangerous. It’s also absolutely normal to have plateaus where the weight doesn’t move for a couple of weeks. Stick with it, you’re doing well, every lb is a lb closer to being a healthy weight.

Weepixie · 09/07/2025 16:20

And its sickening, he is so sad and saying why didn't she just do slimming world like she usually does!

I suspect she started Mounjaro because slimming world didn’t actually work for her going by what her son has said.

And would you care to share why you’re under the impression that people aren’t eating a nutritionally sound diet on Mounjaro. Personally I’m on 1500 calories a day - way more than I’d have at SW.

Or you could perhaps just admit that you know nothing about Mounjaro as that’s what your post is screaming loud and clear.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 09/07/2025 16:20

That's more than I lost in a year on it!

It took me 18 months to shift 3 stone years ago.
Through hard work and eating properly.
No jym no neddles just my living room floor no junk and hard work.
It all starts with a good change in mind set.

🏆 Well done for being better than us.

@Pinkflowersinavase I ended up hospitalised in 2021 and having emergency surgery to remove my gallbladder after losing weight the traditional way. It is an unfortunate fact that being obese makes you higher risk for gallbladder/pancreas problems, and losing weight also causes the exact same problems, so you are damned if you do and damned if you don’t.

Amongst a demographic made up of obese people who are actively losing weight you would expect to see a higher number of pancreas issues than in a demographic of either slim healthy people or fat people not losing weight.

InfoSecInTheCity · 09/07/2025 16:30

Why thank you @MayaPinion, my weight loss spreadsheet is one of my very favourite things 😂 I am a full on spreadsheet nerd and just love updating it and tweaking the formulas.

TourangaLeila · 09/07/2025 16:40

Honestly, I think some people expect to inject themselves one day, chrysalis up the second and emerge a size 8 on day 3.

It shows such an unhealthy relationship with food and body image.

MyHouseInThePrairie · 09/07/2025 16:45

Yellowbirdcage · 09/07/2025 16:15

I started at 14.2.
13 months on Wegovy and I’ve lost 2 stone 2lbs. (And £2,000). Very happy with that. I feel so much better.
OP. Are you paying for it? It can be hard to have a very slow loss when it’s cost £240 a month but still worth it to me. Expect to slow down. Slow and steady is the best.

I’m in a similar boat.
About 1 stone after 5 months.

@India4 I was (and still am) in the obese category.
And I’m still VERY HAPPY to that rate of loosing weight.
It’s very easy to feel you’re somehow failing (or MJ isn’t working) if you read threads (here or other places). If you dint loose a lot quickly.
In reality, I feel it’s much safer to go slow. In particular, you need to keep your muscle mass. You need to change your eating habits. You need to give your body time to adjust.

The downside for me of going slow is the cost of course.
But you’re doing well. It’s working. Loosing the weight you need to loose when you’re obese like us is just going to take time.

MountKilimounjaro · 09/07/2025 16:59

@India4that’s a really strong start. Congratulations.

It’s no surprise that you can’t gauge what’s a sensible expectation or not. Any of us that are on this journey have a lifetime of disordered messages around food and weight.

I’ve been on Mounjaro for well over a year now and have lost over 7 stone. The trick is to keep plodding onwards. If you’re hitting roughly 1 or 2 lbs a week then that’s amazing and consistent and before you know it a lot of time will have passed and you’ll have lost lots.

You’ll have weeks where you don’t lose anything, but you need to adjust your mindset and keep focussed. Look for non scale victories like how your clothes fit or how you feel better in yourself etc.

The best advice I can give you is to not rush up the doses. A higher dose does not equal faster weight loss. If you’re losing small but consistent amounts and have an ok level of suppression then stick at that dose for as long as possible.

Good Luck and congratulations on starting.

Absolutely not! I have lost 1
stone…14st 6 now 13st 5

Exactly! And that’s bloody amazing! Definitely nothing to be scoffed at. Sorry, but to say you’ve ONLY lost a stone just screams unrealistic. Just out of interest how much were you expecting to lose in just over a month?!

🏆 Well done for being better than us.

Thank you also @PutThe l but it was the days when none of this help was available.
We had weight watchers and slim fast.
So had no choice to do it the hard way couldn't afford the jym either mind you the jyms back then seemed like they were for men only.
Thank god the world as moved in a better direction.

Yes I have to pay & funds are not going to be available for an endless time.

I wish people would stop seeing others lose a lot in first week and expect the same. What you don't realise is that most of the people that have a big first week loss, go on to stay the same week 2, possibly week 3, then start losing a 1 to 2lb a week after. So actually, their losses balance out.

You have lost loads in your first month so shouldn't be disappointed. Think of how long it took you to gain the weight and put that into perspective. You can't expect to lose faster than you gained it. Althrough you probably will lose faster overall.

Realistically you should only be losing 1-2lbs a week so get used to this.

I started Feb 24 and I am 7st down and maintaining. It took me about a year to lose the weight. Most of it was losing 2-3lbs a week.

I think lower your expectations and be happy with any loss, or you will just be disappointed the whole time. You are losing weight and it will continue to come off. Just be patient.

It took me 5 months to shift 4 stone years ago. Through hard work and eating properly. No ‘jym’ no needles… just no junk and hard work.

And then it all came back!

It took me 11 months to lose 8 stone. Hard work and eating properly. Oh and I go to the gym 6 days a week where I work very bloody hard.

And I have taken mounjaro to help me.

Battling obesity has ABSOLUTELY FUCK ALL to do with a good change in mind set.

autumn1610 · 09/07/2025 18:29

@India4 your disappointed with 1st….well you would be very disappointed with my progress on it 🤣 1st 8lbs since March! I’m a very slow looser about 1-2lb a week some weeks 0lbs and I’m on 10mg I just don’t really react to it I’ve only recently started getting suppression since being on 10mg but obviously have to work up to it!

chizzycuzzy · 09/07/2025 18:36

Evidence suggests that losing super quickly is what contributes to pancreatitis, which is what has contributed to some of the fatalities in people who have been taking mounjaro. Losing quickly whether on MJ or not is risky for our bodies. Losing slowly and consistently is safest

Sounds grim. The needles are a massive improvement, I agree.

Rosejx · 09/07/2025 18:42

It all adds up so don’t be disheartened, 14lbs is a great start! I’m 8 months in (jab 34 - had 1 week off whilst on hols) and I’ve just got my 4st loss today - slow and steady is much better in terms of maintaining in the end and I’ve had zero hair loss which is a big reported side affect when losing weight so quickly. My advice would be not to compare your losses to others, some people respond really quickly to it others go at a slower pace x

I must say the comments on here have really helped me, everyone states the same …just 1/2lb per week seems standard…I expected too much. Your going to be very slim shortly so try to be patient albeit difficult.

That’s absolutely loads. I’ve lost 12lbs in 7 weeks which is more in line with what you’re supposed to lose.

Are you reading the responses properly? Why do you keep saying you haven't lost a stone then posting your stats that show you've lost a stone?

You haven't stopped losing weight. Are you expecting to see the scales go down every single day?!
