New thread for anyone with more than 5 stone/30kg to lose. All welcome, whichever part of the journey you're on.

We have kiwis, hammocks, weight loss charts, an unhealthy obsession with Vinted and enough water to sink several ships 😊

No discount codes please - there's a separate thread for those.

@MooBaggage welcome back! Prices have definitely dampened my mood the past week 😭

@Trinck I would echo @RobinEllacotStrike on the price chasing - make sure its worth it!

@Reginaphalangeeeee that is the official guidance. Lots choose to disregard, which I do.

my logic is just based on my own vibes, which is that the only difference between a new sealed pen and one thats been ised is the punctures in the seal to take doses. I opt to keep mine refridgerated throughout, practice excellent hygiene and store cleanly, so feel comfortable using past 30 days. My last pen was a 10mg, i take 8mg, so first 5 doses work the normal way (i count clicks first time and then mark a line on the pen gauge for the following doses), 5th dose is day 30 and then my 6th dose a week later, which i extract.

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 19/08/2025 12:50

I’ve finally had confirmation from Asda that my continuation set of two pens have been approved. That’s taken since 14 August, so don’t give up hope @Darlinghag or anyone else still waiting to hear. I agree that Asda are pretty terrible at keeping you updated.

Darlinghag · 19/08/2025 12:54

@ANutAsBigAsABoulder excellent news!! i ordered lunch time on the Friday, so maybe I will be able to get mine too! No change as of yet though!

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 19/08/2025 12:54

I’m also planning to count clicks on my pens to eke them out a little. Only by an extra week, but it will make a difference. I have enough spare needles as I was sent too many a few pens ago - just need to pick up a few extra alcohol pads. I’m taking 6mg from my current 7.5mg pen and plan to do the same with the next if the suppression is still working.

Trinck · 19/08/2025 13:39

RobinEllacotStrike · 19/08/2025 11:16

thats a great start @Trinck !

Are you sure its worth it chasing codes & changing suppliers all the time? I've been with the same supplier for over a year and I paid £154 + £5 P&P for 7.5mg without using any codes. I choose a supplier with no codes but sensible pricing through all the strengths.

Of course it might be all change now, with the price increase, but playing the code game to date hasn't necessarily been any cheaper.

The potential problem with your plan to use 10mg to dose 5mg is the risk of contamination of the pen/medication as the seal will be punctured more than double the amount of times its designed for.

Edited

Thing is tho, both my first two pens (before all this stress since the announcement) were less than £100. So £155 this time feels expensive. I had planned on staying 5mg, shopping around for codes and budgeted for around £100 a month.

I ended up resigned to it not being possible to find close to £100 anymore, so have had a rethink. I've decided to go up the strengths but stay using 5mg by counting clicks and stretching the time the pens last.

I kerp them I the fridge throughout, practice good hygiene with it, have a 100 pack of tips and wipes, plus 20 insulin needles.

I think it also matters that I'm not risk adverse, and I know this won't be the case for everyone. I'm going to make a 10mg pen last 10 weeks (2 1/2 months) to make it cost effective. I can't afford it otherwise, so it's a risk I'm willing to try.

Arglefraster · 19/08/2025 13:40

@ReginaphalangeeeeeFWIW the 5th dose is within the 30 days
Day 1 1st dose
Day 8 2nd dose
Day 15 3rd dose
Day 22 4th dose
Day 29 5th dose

Personally I would feel comfortable with the level of risk taking a 6th dose on day 35 (although never done it) but likely not beyond.

I'm interested in how people who will have longer prescribing gaps than expected due to taking pens over longer periods will get prescribed later unless they anticipate having sufficient pens to take them to goal/will still be obese & are happy to start again at 2.5 (genuinely interested as this is what has prevented me from taking smaller doses from higher strength pens!)

Trinck · 19/08/2025 13:57

I'm planning to figure out what's the longest gap I can have between prescriptions (without going back to 2.5mg) and reordering then, keeping pens in storage to use later.

I think the prescription gap will be a hot conversation topic in Sept/Oct, so will no doubt be dealt with.

I would guess you can have 8 weeks between prescriptions. I doubt any prescriber would mind if you don't start a pen until 2-3 weeks after prescription (because of ordering in good time for delivery). I think they actually will take the reasonable answer that customers stockpiled in August as explanation for the prescription gap. The question asked when applying as a new customer is ususlly "when was your last dose", not when was your last prescription.

I also think you can have a mid-pen break, say for a holiday, without it being an issue - which could be an extra 2 weeks.

I think this will be easier without push-notification pressure from an existing subscription. I'll be new customer each time.

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 19/08/2025 13:58

I think if you’ve ordered from the same supplier they’ll be able to see you’ve had x number of pens so are still in the right timeframe to reorder. If from multiple suppliers may be a little harder, but I think it’s going to be a fairly common issue so the pharmacies will work out protocols.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 19/08/2025 15:01

Thank you all. Helpful information.
I have been on the SheMed subscription so not felt I needed to use golden doses.
I have graded up doses adjusting clicks but not really used pens for more than the 4 doses. Now really wishing I had and I would have a nice few pens buffer.

Currently in 10mg and taking 10mg so I think only 1 extra dose possible out of the pen? I have insulin needles ready.
I also keep refrigerated and carefully wipe.
However, I thought it was because seal broken effectiveness of drug can reduce alongside risk of contamination the reason 30days advised.

Given the price hike, I wonder if pen design and volume changes will come into practice to stop people doing exactly what many are planning. Sure there will be people sharing pens too from
Higher dose pens.

I feel completely naive as the subscription happens each month… it will continue until December. Not sure what I will do after that or even if subscription rate will change.

Darlinghag · 19/08/2025 15:31

@Reginaphalangeeeee its not an approved route, so i won’t say you should do it, as its absolutely a personal choice and no provider will recommend it but as @Arglefraster says, the 5th dose is on day 30, not outside 30 days.

i remember being very nervous about it initally, but i’m less risk adverse these days now i’ve done so long on MJ!

I'm into my 2nd pen, 1 stone down. Been stressing about finding a supplier for my third pen. I plan to swap supplier and get discounts each month so have been worried about not being able to buy as a new customer from anywhere and having to have sn extra-big jump paying existing customer prices without a discount.

But I managed to ordered from Juniper yesterday morning as a new customer. £154 for 7.5mg, which I don't think is bad. I got the dispatch notification today, which I am incredibly relieved about!
That was with a referral code.

I have a £75 referral code if anyone needs it.

I'm actually happy on 5mg. My plan to save money though is to get my prescription up to 10mg but then only take doses of 5mg from the pen. I figure, with the bonus 1 dose at the end of the pen, I'll get 10 weeks of 5mg from one circa £190-200 pen. So about equivalent to the £100 my first two pens were.

I know this isn't ideal. I'm not risk averse though and am willing to minimise and manage the potential risks with good hygiene and fridge storage.

Could I have your referral code please?

After months of my local shop being out of stock I have found a new supply and stocked up!
I am so happy to see inside my fridge now!

I’m not a regular poster - but a reader so hope it is ok to post…

SW: 18st 11 (Feb 2025)
CW: 15st 12
GW : not sure but maybe around 12 st? Although think 11 st is healthy BMI.

Finally broken through into the 15s! Yay!

Worried, like many, about the price increases - have had Zava order approved since Friday but no sign of shipping yet - have been using 5mg pen for lower doses so currently debating whether to use past 30 days as loads left.

After some awful side effects above 5mg I took a little break and restarted at 2.5mg. Now up to 3.75mg and things are going ok - food noise isn’t completely gone but MJ is helping a lot - similar with suppression.

The thing I love most is the effect MJ has on my ulcerative colitis - all the discomfort has gone - it is bloody amazing - I’ve read similar on these boards for other conditions too.

Darlinghag · 19/08/2025 19:29

We have an ASDA update! Sharing in case any others are waiting for theirs.

They are delayed in processing, but have said that if I was able to order my dose, the stock was reserved at purchase, essentially, at the price I paid. A relief, as I don’t need my dose immediately, but I will get it!

NewbieMJ · 19/08/2025 19:33

Popping on quickly to advise I have just had this from MedExpress (who I have been with from the beginning (Sept 24):

"You may have seen the news that Eli Lily, the manufacturer of Mounjaro, is increasing the price across all dose strengths from 1 September, 2025.
Following this announcement, we've updated your account so that you can reorder with us now, meaning you can now place 2 orders within a 28-day period."

Hoorah - that means I can order my next pen at today's price. Phew.

Congratulations everyone who has absolutely smashed it! I am in awe of all of you. Inspiring us all on this great thread.

I am creeping along, as is tradition😂- my one year anniversary is beginning of September, so will report back then. In the meantime:

SW: 18 stone 11
CW: 13 stone 6

Onwards we go in the face of adversity. We have got this lovely losers💪

EternalFatalist · 19/08/2025 19:49

@Darlinghag I've been with Asda since I started on MJ back in July 2024. On Friday morning (15 June), I placed an order (earlier than usual) for a continuation pack - one 7.5mg pen and one 10mg pen - I've been on 7.5mg for a few months but went this route, as it seemed practical in light of what is happening. :-(

The communications from Asda have been rather dire, but tonight I received the same message as you.

I've collected my last few orders instead of having them delivered, but that option wasn't available for my order, so hopefully delivery will be scheduled for a day when I don't need to be in the office.

I'm very relieved to know that my order is in stock!!! It's been a stressful few days.

@Darlinghag I've had the same email 🫰🏼 might end up with an extra pen now, but worse problems to have!

alltablenochairs · 19/08/2025 21:35

Muuuuuuuuum why have you got a parcel of clothes in the fridge. I haven't, its one of my MJ pens. If I leave it in the packaging then the kids will leave it alone! The other one rocked up today in a totally plain cardboard box and was signed for by my teen. At 6'1 said teen passes for a lot older than they look but if the postman knew what was in the box I dont think they would have been so gung ho about handing it over.

I'll probably order another round of 15mg pens before the end of the month so will have a few to use up. Hopefully I'll be close-ish to my target by then and I can start reducing the dosage. Maybe, just maybe when I am at target and on a reduced dose I might just warm up because I am freeeeeeezing again. As in thick woolly socks and a blanket on the sofa even though its still August! If anyone else has perennially cold feet I can thoroughly recommend 'half pound socks' from Cambridge baby. Not cheap and definitely need looking after (e.g. dont machine wash them) but they're unbeatable for keeping feet warm.

@Reginaphalangeeeee possibly very likely to be MP. I have autoimmune disease that's (somewhat) successfully attacking my peripheral nervous system and long term spinal issues so nerve impingement sounds just about right. Fantastic. Usually I tend to get neuropathy which is the total opposite. I'll report it to my medical team though just in case.

QueenOfHiraeth · 19/08/2025 21:57

@alltablenochairs Good luck finding somewhere with 15mg in stock before the end of the month. I think many places seem to be out of stock although I have just looked on weightlossuk.co.uk and there are a few but all over £200 where I previously paid £154
I haven't busted a gut as I had one delivered only a week before the debacle began but have seen a few folk panicking
The only order I placed was a 12.5 from Bolt (as I couldn't find 15 at any names I knew) but I still haven't heard anything beyond the email that said it may take 1-2 weeks

Arglefraster · 19/08/2025 22:33

My order status has changed to confirmed 🎉 so I hope that means a pen in the next day or two. I haven't taken my final dose as scheduled today but feeing hopeful I can do so soon 😃

I always thought you couldn't stretch more than 6 weeks between orders so I'm pleased to read it might actually be 8 - I'm always so scared of being told off for breaking the rules 🤷‍♀️🤣

Titianshe · 19/08/2025 23:03

SW 117kg
CW 108kg
TW 80kg

I’m on my second pen at 2.5mg (as had side effects with the first but all settled now). I have a 5mg pen in the fridge but thinking I’ll try and get an other pen or two. Not sure what dose to get though. How long have you stayed at 5mg?

MooBaggage · 20/08/2025 06:33

1lb off - hurrah! We all need our good news at the moment, especially if we're going to be selling kidneys to get this stuff in the future... 🙄😀

13.1.25 SW 20st 3lb. BMI 43
20.8.25 CW 15st 10lb BMI 33.4

So that's exactly 4 1/2 stone and exactly 2 stone to go until my first end target!

When I started, I couldn't think past 13 st 10lb, which will give me a BMI of 29 and make me only overweight. Even that was probably unachievable but I made myself put it as a target.

Now, I'm probably going to try for around 12 stone - still overweight, but I still can't imagine anything less than 12 stone something as that was what I weighed as a teenager and my adult body has never seen a number lower!

But we'll see - baby steps - 2 more stone to go over the next 6 months is the target. Then into the land of the unknown 😮

OP posts:
MooBaggage · 20/08/2025 06:38

@alltablenochairs I'm also freeeeeeezing!! The weather has turned slightly here and I'm always really cold for the first couple of days after injection day - I nearly put the heater on last night 😮

@Titianshe I stayed on 5mg for a good while - I felt pretty nauseous when I moved up, so took a while to get used to it and then I went up in stages by counting clicks, through to 6mg/6.25mg/6.5mg etc. Am now on 7.5mg and have been on this dose for about 3 months. But everyone's different and the current situation with MJ had got us all second guessing re: buying pens, which is rubbish 😔

You could get another one, then add extra clicks and use the 5th dose if necessary, so you go up a bit but still get 4 doses?
