Has anyone had a good result with mounjaro?

I thought it would be so different to what I have experienced. I thought that I would be less hungry and that I would feel fuller for longer.

Three weeks in on 2.5, I have been just as hungry as I have always been. I have felt no appetite suppresant effect at all. The only thing it's done for me are bad things: it has given me nausea and diarrohea.

I didn't think it would be like this. It is such an expensive drug too.

I had zero effects until I ht 7.5 mg and then the appetite suppression and "food noise" suppression that everyone talks about all kicked in. Some people only need a low dose but obviously you and I need a higher one. Keep going and you will hopefully hit a working dose soon.
(I have lost 25lb so far - slowly but not absolutely starving all the time either)

Why do they start everyone on a very low dose?

It does sound like you might have had some unrealistic expectations of what might happen in the first few weeks of Mounjaro. It’s a common mistake, as people see social media posts of people who drop insane amounts of weight, but they are the unusual ones or they’re exaggerating for likes.

The first 4 weeks of 2.5mg don’t produce significant weight loss on average for the majority. It’s a starting dose to get used to the medication. Whether or not Mounjaro has worked for you is something you can only judge on a long term basis.

I wasn't expecting to lose weight in the first month actually.

However I was expecting to feel an appetite suppressant effect. The drug is marketed as making you feel fuller for longer.

So to pay huge money for the drug, and then feel nothing at all, can feel like a total waste for people.

Many people don't get any appetite suppression at first. 2.5mg is a starter dose to get you used to the medication. Many many people don't get the positive effects on appetite until much higher doses. I appreciate it can be frustrating as for some people it works straight away. I would reserve judgement until you have increased your dose.

SilenceInside · 01/07/2025 18:30

The effects don’t start immediately for everyone. Some people need the higher doses, with some even needing the top dose before it starts to work. No medication can be guaranteed to have the intended effect immediately for everyone as much as the manufacturer would love to be able to.

You can stop and not take another injection if you think it’s not for you. It will be out of your system totally within 30 days.

The cynic in me thinks that they start everyone at a very small dose, to get people to buy more of the drug over a longer period of time.

2.5mg is extremely low.

Seems a bit of a strange thread title. Have you read any other threads on this board op?

TorturedParentsDepartment · 01/07/2025 18:35

I've lost 5 stones. However I found 2.5 did very little for me apart from give me the shits and I had to move up the doses to get to a level that worked well with a balance of side effects for me - at the moment that's 7.5 but I'm considering going to 10mg when I next need to buy a pen.

There are side effects of any drug that has effects. The lower the dose, typically the lower the side effects. Why would you start everyone on a high dose when the lower dose works for many people and is likely to make fewer people sick? The same is true of lots of other drugs, from blood pressure to antidepressants. Start small and go up if there is no issue.

Yes, that'll be it. Nothing to do with your body and brain getting used to it, so you don't suffer horrible side effects.

SilenceInside · 01/07/2025 18:38

I think it’s a little paranoid to think that the manufacturer sets the dosing schedule to trick people out of cash. They have to have clinical trial data, evidence and scientific reasoning behind it in order for it to be approved by the MHRA which is govt body.

Given the effects that you yourself have had at 2.5mg, would you have wanted to jump straight in at a high dose and take the risk of severe side effects??? It’s entirely sensible and cautious to take people up the doses gradually whilst they work out what level they can tolerate.

You are naive. It is all about money for these companies. There is a HUGE amount of corruption in the pharmaceutical industry.

I just saw one of the top stories on an Irish news site today, it was about how much money pharmaceutical companies pay to doctors to get them to prescribe drugs.

The report said that one doctor was given 50,000 euro to promote a particular drug to his patients

Maybe you’ll be one of the 15% who the drug doesn’t work for op. Perhaps save your money.

I'm amazed you've started using mounjaro at all @Marinamay44

It's not paranoid at all to think that pharmaceuticam companies are more interested in making money, than they are in our health.

I have heard it from lots of different sources.

One woman i met at a group told me that she used to work in pharma sales and she had to get out of the industry after a while, because it was so corrupt, it made her feel terrible.

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 01/07/2025 18:43

I didn’t start to lose till 5mg and it didn’t really kick in till 7.5mg.

2.5mg isn’t a therapeutic dose. It’s just to get you ready for the medication. Whilst it does affect some people it’s certainly not everyone.

I’ve lost 5 stone now and am at 15mg. And feeling amazing.

PlaceInTheShade · 01/07/2025 18:43

Strange thread. There are threads after threads in this topic of people who have had a good result with Mounjaro.

I’ve lost 4 stone on 2.5mg.

There are more than half a million people in the UK on Mounjaro, many of whom have lost weight at 2.5mg, or other low doses. Why do you think the recommended dosages should be set to suit only you OP?

I disagree completely. While many people don't get any impact at all on 2.5mg, many do. If everyone started on a higher dose, most people would never take it again because the side effects would be so high. I stayed on 2.5mg for 6 weeks and it was perfect straight away. Reduced appetite, easily full, no food noise, but no side effects. I didn't need anything more, and a stronger dose would have been too much, I'd have had side effects and no appetite. I am 20 weeks in and still only on 5mg, and I increased the dose super slowly. A sizeable chunk of people need to do this. Equally it's not unheard of for people to not feel the benefits until they are on 10mg. Everyone responds differently

Try this. 😳

or try reading some of the many threads and see that there are many different experiences and some people have pretty bad side affects at 2.5mg. Some lose all their weight at lower doses and remain on 5mg for many months. Others, like me, need to build it up over time.

WTDress · 01/07/2025 18:46

Your body needs to get used to the medication. You would be very ill indeed if you went straight in at a higher dose.

But in answer to you question, yes, lots of people have had good results with mounjaro. I have lost 7 stone.

So stop paying them and stop taking it. I don’t like Amazon's business practices, I don’t buy from them.

I get the same type of appetite suppression from keto. It’s free and funds no one’s shady business.

Why do they start everyone on a very low dose?

Because

  1. a low dose is enough for some people to lose weight

and

b) because some people find the side effects at higher doses intolerable (some people do at 2.5 too)
