Has anyone had a good result with mounjaro?

I thought it would be so different to what I have experienced. I thought that I would be less hungry and that I would feel fuller for longer.

Three weeks in on 2.5, I have been just as hungry as I have always been. I have felt no appetite suppresant effect at all. The only thing it's done for me are bad things: it has given me nausea and diarrohea.

I didn't think it would be like this. It is such an expensive drug too.

Maybe update your side effects to nausea, diarrhoea & hangry

No because I am not immature.

Mounjaro was approved for weight loss by The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in November 2023.

The thing is it is clearly a drug that has been approved for weight loss.

AmythestBangle · 02/07/2025 09:46

My point was not about MJ specifically. I was just pointing out that it doesn't matter what a drug is actually indicated or licenced for, it can potentially be prescribed for something different (although, especially in an NHS content, the doctor may have to justify the prescription and be prepared to defend its use if challenged by the NHS Trust). So even if MJ had not been licenced for weight loss (which it now is) it still could be (and was) prescribed for that. Same for eg Metformin.

chipsticksmammy · 02/07/2025 11:03

Weight loss and appetite suppression are two different things.

I was responding to the comment on appetite suppression. The weight loss is driven by glycemic control, diet, exercise etc.

I cannot see a claim on the manufacturers website regarding appetite supression.

FurForksSake · 02/07/2025 11:14

Isn’t appetite suppression technically a side effect of the medication?

Crikeyalmighty · 02/07/2025 11:28

The way I see it is that appetite suppression is actually a side effect - although of course a ‘wanted side effect’ for many who take it -originally developed though for better glycemic control -

It’s not immaturity to update your providers with your side effects. Not sure why you’d think it is? It provides relevant and important information.

You’re not being scammed. You’re just misunderstanding what you’ve read.

Isn’t appetite suppression technically a side effect of the medication?

I cant find it saying that anywhere on the MJ patient/HCP info - the wording from Lilly is quite specific on glucose control with diet and exercise. I assume that was the outcome the clinical trials will have been conducted on.

The Boots website does say appetite suppressing. I dont know what level of copy control / claims review these websites have.

I was replying to the poster who said that I was "hangry"

I was replying to the poster who said that I was "hangry"

For the purposes of side effect reporting you could phrase it as ‘grumpy’ and ‘irritable’?

Titasaducksarse · 02/07/2025 11:54

Marinamay44 · 02/07/2025 08:44

That is not what i was saying though.

I was replying to the poster that said that mounjaro is not marketed as an appetite suppresant at all.

I pointed out that Mounjaro is being marketed as an appetite suppressant in leading pharmacies in England. Most people trust pharmacies.
They won't go and read the Eli Lily website.

So as you are saying:
Eli Lily do not say Mounjaro is a weight loss drug at all,

Are we being scammed by the U.K. pharmacies then, who are marketing it as a weight loss drug?

You have misquoted me.
I did not state the bit you've put in bold.

Again, you need to evidence, correctly, your sources.

I didn't misquote you. The second part of my post was not replying to you. It was replying to a different poster.

The first part of my post, that was quoting you, very accurately quoted you. You said it is not an appetite suppresant.

This is all getting a bit squabbley now!
I think it’s fair to say that many people expect their appetite to be suppressed. I’ve read so many times on these threads about people “definitely moving up to the higher dose next time because they don’t have enough suppression”. However it’s not a guarantee and it doesn’t happen for everyone. I’ve done 6 weeks with minimal to zero appetite suppression on 2.5, 3.75 or 5mg. I can still eat large portions if I like, drink alcohol without problems and eat foods that are supposed to react badly with the drug (spices, caffeine etc). However I do think it affects my willpower and enables me to stick to my healthy eating and stops me thinking about snacks. I actually think those of us with less suppression will do better long term because we won’t be quite as dependent on the drug when we come off it.

Crikeyalmighty · 02/07/2025 12:22

@Gingercar I agree with you on that about long term and i think will be able to come off it easier too as have had to be using willpower to a greater extent

TimetoPour · 02/07/2025 12:36

I lost a stone in my first month on 2.5mg

My friend took 3 doses of 2.5mg, didn’t lose anything, felt as sick as a dog and threw the rest of the pen in the bin

Many others haven’t felt any appetite suppression until much higher doses.

It is different for everyone. Smaller doses are not a big scam to con you in to buying extra. It’s so people like me who it works for and people like my friend who it made poorly aren’t made very sick. If you stick with it, give it time, eat well and exercise more, you will do well. However a negative mindset and lack of faith (despite there being plenty of evidence that it does work) will set you back.

Gingercar · 02/07/2025 12:42

Yes I think you have to go into this with a positive and determined mindset, just like you do with any serious health kick/diet. MJ has been portrayed as a bit of a magic wand by people on social media, which it really isn’t, although it’s certainly a great tool to help someone committed to losing weight.

I've been on it since January. I haven't had suppression, nor have I lost the food noise. However, I've been able to deal with it better since being on the jab, and not given into the cravings.

I did start to experience satiety, but not until the end of my 5mg pen/start of 7.5mg. I also had quite bad nausea with my first 7.5mg pen, which eased off by the second one. I went up to 10mg for my last pen, and have been nauseous for 3 weeks straight, so went back down to 7.5mg and still have it.

I've lost just over 4 stone.

My husband started at the same time. He had suppression from day 1, no bad side effects at all, and only needed to go up to 5mg. He also lost 4 stone and is on maintenance (and planning on trying to come off completely after his last jab tonight).

I don't get what is so difficult to understand that different bodies react differently to a drug. Human bodies aren't identical, and of course there will be variations in how people react. My husband was lucky enough to be a super responder with a very easy ride. Me not so much, and I've had to work a lot harder. However, I've still achieved good results. I just wish I could shift this nausea, as it's pretty grim.

LightDrizzle · 02/07/2025 20:10

DH has lost 2lbs per week on average since starting Mounjaro 8 weeks ago but it’s very spiky.

Side effects include constipation and feeling slightly nauseous at times. He got it through a private Dr. who gave nutrition advice and gives follow up appointments and he has been following the advice to the letter and beyond: he has cut out alcohol, greatly reduced carbs, increased protein and he is exercising.

I do worry that some of the people buying (I’m not saying you OP) expect these injections to do all the work and don’t use it as a springboard to change their diet and habits.

For DH the nausea and constipation started immediately on 2.5 so it’s almost certainly a good thing he started on that dose.

Well done to you both.
Did you go straight up to the next pen every time or stay on each level for a few pens?

I did two pens at 7.5mg, the rest just one each.

My husband did two each of 2.5 and 5, then has gone back down to 2.5mg for maintenance (and in fact did only 1.25mg last week and tonight as he was still losing weight when he didn't want to).
