Evening everyone. I'm behind on this thread so apologies for not recognising everyone's achievements but I'm having a mini crisis.

On an impulse this morning I made an online enquiry at a local gym that does small group personal training sessions for over 40s. I got a phone call about 5 minutes later from them and we had a very honest conversation about why I'm interested in training and what my goals are. They sounded really accommodating and understanding, and before I knew it I had agreed to join and paid for 12 sessions! I'm not having regrets per se, more like 'OMG, what have I done...' accompanied by mild panic.

But my thoughts now are, what the heck am I going to wear? I certainly don't have any gym clothes but I don't even have leggings. I don't have a sports bra and I don't have any suitable trainers, just my scruffy Skechers for dog walking.

Where can I buy gym clothes in size 22 top and 24/26 bottom? I need them by Thursday. I'm thinking some cropped leggings, a sports bra and t-shirt or vest top (I know I'll overheat within 5 minutes of being there).

For those of you that go to the gym or have a trainer, what sorts of things did they have you doing at first? I told him that I'm not able to get up and down off the floor (too fat) so press ups and burpees are out unless they modify them.

I'm trying not to panic or get overwhelmed but I made a rash decision and need a bit of reassurance please.

I get leggings and sports bras from SimplyBe, and a long vest from Yours Clothing (not a specific sports one just a plain cotton vest that is long enough to cover my tummy). Both deliver pretty quickly and returns are easy if stuff doesn't fit.

If ordering from Yours Clothing if you browse whilst logged in but dont order anything then they often email a 10% discount code within a day or so.

SimplyBe also do trainers from various brands but to be honest if the dog walking ones fit and are comfy then I'd just shake off any mud and wear those.

If you are after somewhere you can pop in person then try supermarkets - Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's are good for plus size.

TheBeesTrees · 26/07/2025 16:51

Afternoon all! I took my first dose of 5mg last night and I'm barely hungry today but I have nibbled my way through some lightly salted crisps and an ice lolly. Must do better!

Congratulations @PearlsPearl On 10/11 years!
@AlicesMum2025 I always find that I don't enjoy the workout but I do get an endorphin rush from it. I just need to do it more often!!

I did my 1 year photos of doom, everything has kind of migrated south 😂 good job clothes can make it look better!

You can definitely tell I still have a long way to go!

I bet you can see how far you've come too though - be nicer to yourself!

Elle771 · 26/07/2025 17:22

@pearlspearl 10yrs is fab!!!

As someone who's avoided lots of meal out occasions in last few months, I was taken out last night for prepaid meal booked 6mths ago long before MJ and felt same as you!

However I found ordering a few really indulgent smaller plates/portions and eating nice and slow meant I enjoyed every mouthful and other person wasn't just sat there scoffing haha... we got dessert to takeaway (and half my main!) Noone batted an eyelid and when I worked out how much I had eaten it really wasn't astronomical but I had thoroughly enjoyed it and didnt make myself ill (which i defo would have done pre mj!)

Hope you enjoy some lovely time together 🥰🥰🥰

@ConfusedMiddleAger83 I found I didn't really need smaller clothes till I'd lost 4st.

I mean, the ones I had were looser, but they still fit me.

It wasn't till I got down to about 15st that I started to need smaller sizes.

Same. Was in same size a little baggy

Tho prob as I had stretched them hugely 😳

I do Press ups against the wall as have dodgy knees and can’t kneel on them without pain

WafflingDreamer · 26/07/2025 18:50

Massive NSV today. I got caught in the back of a photo from a party we attended and I'm not fat!! I mean I'm a bit fat (BMI 32) but I'm not massive, I'm so used to being the fattest person in most rooms. Although I really really need to buy a new bra 😬

Iwouldratherbesinging · 26/07/2025 19:37

Hello @Pickledpoppetpickle you are doing the best thing that you can for your health, I’m sorry that you are feeling lonely. I know it’s not the same but feel free to chat about anything on here, it’s a very friendly group. We’re all at varying stages of our journeys and all go through good and bad days. It’s honestly the best thing that I have ever done. Let us know how you get on x

TheBeesTrees · 26/07/2025 22:48

@Pickledpoppetpickle I feel similar at times. The mental stuff we carry around is often heavier than the physical weight I think. Like singing said above, we're here to share stuff with, the heavy stuff or the smaller stuff, and the good things that will happen. I know they will, because you are worth this, just as much as the rest of us here are. Now is the time to start making a life for you, one tiny step at a time

TheBeesTrees · 26/07/2025 22:49

@WafflingDreamer that must be such a lovely feeling, massive congratulations!

Elephantscantjump · 27/07/2025 07:31

Weigh in number 2
SW - 306.6lb/21.9 stone/138.8kg
W1 - 296.2lb/21.2 stone/134.3kg
W2 - 292.1lb/20.12 stone/132.5kg

Really pleased with how its going, fingers crossed that I avoid the side effects this week.

Missingducks · 27/07/2025 08:03

Delighted to have found this group as the April starters I was on are now talking maintenance and I still am carrying a spare person with me not a spare tyre.
Started at 156.5kg (a shock on its own as of course I hadn't been weighing, I know I am fat). Week 14 and down to 144kg which is super but I am sad it hasn't gone to 140kg by the end of July.

Moved to 5ml two weeks ago.
Smaller portions, hardly any snacking / grazing. More mindful shopping and cooking.

Only husband knows I am using WLI as I can't be arsed with the attention and certainly don't want people 'supporting' me no matter how well meant!

In my wildest dreams I'd like to be 80kg. Need to set myself the mini challenges along the way (140kg and then 134 by end Aug perhaps). Focus on end goal is too far away.

PearlsPearl · 27/07/2025 09:12

Lost 5lb today, so bye-bye to the 3lb holiday weight from last week plus 2. I'm extra happy as I got my period yesterday and don't usually lose then.

So 4 stone 10. That 5 stone is within sight 😍

This has motivated me to keep going. I am taking my scheduled jab tonight despite our foody week ahead. I am focusing on the fact that the week is about celebrating my gorgeous wife, our life together, and getting time together away from DC. I am excited for that, the food is the unimportant bit. I've had a lifetime of indulgent eating and I don't need any more. What I DO need is to be in that spa with her, and now I'm 4.10 stone lighter in my costume. How wonderful.

<3

Motnight · 27/07/2025 09:31

Good morning everyone, including newbies. I don't feel as though I am posting much on this thread. But I am reading it. Have spent most of the last week at the seaside in 2 different trips. Have eaten and drank more than usual but not out of control and have enjoyed it. I know that I will have put on some weight

A NSV for me. Went to a friend's birthday party on the beach. It was held in a beach bar. Quite obviously a private party. Two young strangers came in and grabbed a couple of glasses of champagne. My friend was really upset. I was the one who challenged them. Very politely. But a while ago I wouldn't have dared to, would have been scared of them laughing at me and calling me fat. Any way, I give them credit for their self centredness, the young woman looked incredibly embarrassed and the guy just kept saying that they lived around the corner. I just stood there smiling and saying you can't crash a private party. They eventually handed me their glasses and left. And I got a round of applause 😂 I know it sounds really silly but there's no way I would have deliberately drawn attention to myself like that before.

TheBeesTrees · 27/07/2025 10:34

Any tips on how to deal with sulphur burps?! My family are weary of coming near me today!

Well done @Motnight That must have felt good!

@PearlsPearl what a beautiful post, and what a lucky wife you have. Well done on your losses also!

@Missingducks well done on your losses so far!! That seems awfully quick of the April starters! I also have a whole other body to lose, welcome!!

SilenceInside · 27/07/2025 10:45

@TheBeesTrees peppermint is supposed to help, either as a tea or capsules.

Elephantscantjump · 27/07/2025 10:55

@TheBeesTrees someone recommended pepto bismol and although its the worst tasting thing I've ever tried it did work really well.

Agree, Peptobismol is your friend in this scenario.

Tastes like Germolene and has a really weird texture, but no funny aftertaste and it works. Lasts all day as well.

TheBeesTrees · 27/07/2025 11:24

Thank you so much everyone, I'll go on a (windy) hunt for peptobismol!!

Lozzie118 · 27/07/2025 11:45

I did my first 5mg jab last night, feeling not too bad this morning....... feeling a bit alone on my journey atm. No one knows except DH.

Hi there!
Only my family knows about the MJ I'm on. I didn't want to tell everyone else, because of the judgment.

@Missingducks that’s early. As I’m on Auggies so almost a year and many of us are at goal /thinking of maintaining but some still losing but thread is for wll

but that’s a year. How can they be at goal at 7/8mths

obv didn’t have much to lose

well done @Motnight. Cheeky gits

Fffreeeeezing · 27/07/2025 15:30

I need your collective wisdom please! I’m on week 20 and have done 9 weeks now on 7.5ml. No major side effects other than a bit of constipation now and then.

I need to order my next pen today and am dithering over whether to go up to the 10ml or stay on the 7.5ml. Suppression is okayish but I keep wondering if it could be better as I’m eating all my calories but can always eat more, I can still easily eat big amounts, I see all these people who can only eat tiny amounts, that is so not me!
The losses haven’t been as good as they were on 5ml so I can’t help wondering if they’d be better on 10ml and I’d get better suppression (if I want that? I’m sticking quite nicely to 1400 - 1600 cals a day without too much trouble)

Apologies for the rambling but I’m another one of those people who has only told one person (mum) and she would be no help at all!

SilenceInside · 27/07/2025 15:37

@Fffreeeeezing I spent several months on 7.5mg before deciding to move up to 10mg. I decided to move up when my losses were very slow and I was beginning to feel like I wasn’t really getting much effect anymore.

But, if your losses are ok and you’re sticking to your calories then maybe you’d be ok for another month on 7.5mg. Sorry, that’s probably not very helpful!

If the 10mg pen is around the same price as a 7.5mg then you could get the 10mg and decide to take a 45 click dose for 7.5mg if you didn’t want to go up to 10 straight away.

TickyandTacky · 27/07/2025 15:46

Slightly controversial but when I was starting out last year, I read a piece of advice which was to go up through the doses as quickly as you could tolerate (4 weeks minimum on each one) which is what dh and I did. Seems to be the opposite of what everyone else is doing!

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/07/2025 15:46

I would go up. When I stuck to a 10 for a second month but the 2nd week I wish I had moved

all the others I went up every month

its 5w on it so think carefully before ordering

better to have higher then can always take a smaller dose out if need be
