So I messaged my provider about the side effects I have been experiencing and got the following reply. So I am going to skip next weeks dose as suggested and then take it from there. Maybe it will help someone else?
I’m sorry to hear you've been feeling unwell after your first two doses. What you’ve described — diarrhoea, nausea, heartburn, indigestion, and exhaustion — are unfortunately quite common side effects when starting Mounjaro. These symptoms often settle with time, but for some people they can be quite difficult to manage.
There isn’t a lower dose than 2.5mg available, so there’s no smaller option to drop to. However, many patients do choose to take a break and retry the same dose after a few weeks once their body has had time to reset. That could be a sensible approach here.
Some other tips that might help:
- Try taking your dose just before bed so you sleep through the peak side effects.
- Eat smaller, blander meals more often (e.g. crackers, toast, apples, ginger tea).
- Avoid rich, spicy, or fatty foods while you’re adjusting.
- Staying well hydrated is key – electrolytes (like Dioralyte or similar) are safe and can help.
- Some people do find magnesium supplements helpful for nausea and bowel symptoms, but we suggest checking this with your pharmacist or GP to make sure it’s suitable for you based on any other medication you're on.
For now, if the symptoms have been this difficult, I would suggest skipping your next dose, continuing to hydrate, and giving your body time to recover. Let us know how you get on and we can help you work out the best plan moving forward.
