How are you managing to order extra pens if you don't mind me asking?

I was always a bit ahead as MedExpress emailed me 2 weeks after each order to do next then I swapped suppliers twice and did slightly sooner than a month and I’ve just gone with yet another different supplier today that I had been looking at for maintenance anyway.

I’ve always felt happier with one in hand as read about past shortages and delivery issues. Some suppliers offer bundles of 2 or 3 pens anyway. I’m not going to get any more now but feel better than I know I’m covered to Christmas now then can reassess when we see how this all goes.

Hopefully I'll be able to order another pen before the price increase (I'm moving dose on Saturday but ordered the pen a good week ago now). Ideally wanted to have 2 weeks to see how I get on with 10mg before committing to it with another dose though.

It's all a bit of a mess really. However I think I could fund the increase for a few months at least so that's a small comfort.

PumpKim · 14/08/2025 19:33

I've messaged my current provider about whether they would support with a switch to Wegovy. Nervous that I'm on the cusp of dropping below obese BMI and wondering whether I should just bite the bullet and do it sooner than later rather than risk being declined once the MJ pens become unaffordable.

Merlin23 · 14/08/2025 19:55

I've emailed my provider as I chose them because of the price stability.
It says in their t's & c's you may be able to order and pay in advance for a discount. I need to find out if tgat would be possible as I think I need 4 more pens.

Coventree · 14/08/2025 19:59

It’s scary stuff ☹️. Until we see the new retail prices and see what discounts suppliers will offer to mitigate the rises, it’s hard to know if I will be able to afford to keep going or not.

Scousebloke · 14/08/2025 21:04

I have an opinion on the possible price rise. Fuckety fuck fuck shit.
That is all.

Sheldon4k · 14/08/2025 21:10

Hi All, I hope everyone is doing well xx

I have just got back from the holiday this afternoon.
I have jumped on the scales (know i shouldn't straight away), however I wanted to see the extent of the damage in the 4 weeks that I have been away eating pretty much what I fancied in the amount I could eat. I didnt restrict anything other than when my body wanted to stop or just didnt fancy it.
I have put on 3.8lb, fully clothed, PM. (normal measurements are done in underwear, first thing in morn).
The day before I left I had a 1.5mg dose (after reducing to 2.5mg for the two week prior) so havent had any mj since 16th July.
What i will note is my sweet tooth has returned to a degree as in i fancied sweet things much more (didnt always have), I still cant manage as much as I would have eaten pre mj on a holiday, however increased from levels eaten on MJ weekly.
Food noise has increased but I feel I managed it better than pre mj.
Also I was very aware of what I was eating and the amount so knew what was 'wrong' but as I was on an active holiday I allowed myself to have those things if I wanted them.
Also .... in the whole 4 weeks I had one sip of a cocktail, and 2 small tasters of rice wine in a cultural village. I had zero taste for alcohol at all.

Overall im pretty chuffed! I would expect that within a few days, water retention from flights etc will have diminished and I will only have a lb or so to 'lose again'. Just trying to decide whether to jab tonight or leave it until tomorrow evening after I have recovered from the 36 hours of travelling.

Will have a proper read through missed posts tomorrow. Just noted the article about price increases, although not had proper read as yet. Does it appear it will be implemented immediately? My next pen is being delivered tomorrow and I am in front anyway with being away and also having smaller doses from the 5mg pen so I guess I will need to think about the longer term plan also.

Ricoletti · 14/08/2025 22:39

Oooh crikey , really shit news about price increases. I’ve ordered another pen despite having 3 doses still left in my current one. Last pen was the cheeky bonus code so I got it at £90. This one was £150 which is the price I usually pay without a code.

im worried im going to get priced out if it goes up loads. I can probably justify £200 per month…

seems to be talk of higher doses going way up in price, with lower doses less so. If so I will go back to 2.5 if needed. I’ve stuck at 5ml since my second pen.

What he said!

Have now calmed down after stressing and panicking about it all day. I've ordered another pen so assuming that gets approved I should have enough to last a while and then I'm done.
I was never going to be able to stay on it forever, it's already been a struggle at the current prices and I've been working extra shifts to pay for it, there's no way I can do the crazy high new prices.
I initially planned for three months just to give me a boost to get started and then hoped to be able to continue on my own but I've had so many other benefits besides the weight loss that I now don't ever want to stop. I have had a huge reduction in pain and inflammation and long covid symptoms, it's even improved my anxiety. I'm not feeling good about losing all that and everything returning to how it was before.
I plan to make the most of the time I have left and lose as much as I can and I still need to work on finding non food coping mechanisms, I refuse to go back to eating junk every time I feel sad or stressed. At the moment I still occasionally feel the urge to bury my feelings in food, usually when work has been shitty, but then mj won't actually allow me to. I'll get home from work and head to the kitchen and MJ will say absolutely the fuck not you can have a glass of water and feel your stupid feelings. And I do exactly that. And the feelings eventually pass and I haven't binged on pizza and icecream. I don't think I can do that on my own yet but I hope to someday.

slightlysmallerPoisonIvy · 15/08/2025 02:22

@Sheldon4k That's a tiny gain and actually very impressive after 4 weeks, well done!! I hope you had a fab time!
The prices increase starts september 1st.

@bridgetreilly that's excellent well done!!!

@Coventree That is a lovely post I'm so very happy for you and well done on 40lbs!!!

@Merlin23 3st!!! Wow well done!!

@Zebracat under 200 is a huge milestone! you've got this!!!

Crunchymum · 15/08/2025 07:11

Morning all.

Just -1lb off for me this week. Which isn't too bad as it's time of the month. So overall I'm -32.5lbs in 16 weeks.

Moving to 10mg tomorrow so I'll keep you all posted. Was hoping to not have to go any higher than this but the new price increase means if I'm going to stay on MJ (and I really need to!) then I may have to go down to a lower dose? That was my maintenance plan anyway but I may have to bring it forward.

Going to try and order another pen at the current cost. Other suggestions have been to try and use multiple providers. I really wouldn't want to do this and my BMI is under 30 now anyway. I also assume all providers with competitive prices will be inundated.

Feeling really disillusioned with it all today. I'm disgusted with Trump (even more so than usual) and with the pharma industry and with the whole bloody mess.

PumpKim · 14/08/2025 19:33

I used Wegovy for 8 weeks before moving to MJ. I lost 4lbs. Was incredibly disappointing and then I had to wait 5 weeks to move to MJ.

For me personally Wegovy isn't an option. MJ is the holy grail and I'm going to have to dip into emergency savings to afford to stay on it. Which will buy me until Christmas and then I'll be closer to goal weight (I hope!)

I just cannot believe this is happening.

PumpKim · 15/08/2025 08:34

@Crunchymum I hear what you're saying but the potential price increases would be out of my reach unfortunately and as I'm really not ready to go it alone, Wegovy is probably my only chance to get the last 2.5 stones off. I just can't decide whether to buy another one now at the lower price which means I'll have 2 more months on MJ then look to swap, or just try to do it now. In 2 months I expect my BMI will be below 30 though. My head is scrambled.

I feel so blue about it. I have just felt so much more positive and in control since starting MJ ☹️

I feel for you.
I find it very strange having to force feed rather than just eat whatever I feel like.
Have you thought about asking your GP for support as they can offer counselling and dieticians to help with the emotional eating.

AbundanceofKatherines · 15/08/2025 09:04

I’m feeling so sad for everyone who is worrying about the price rises. I’m sorry, I have no pearls of wisdom, just a sympathetic ear.

I have not lost an ounce this week. I’ve had a busy week but felt I’ve been relatively good so I need to revisit my diet and track for a few days. 5mg has definitely run its course so I have ordered a 7.5 pen.

With my provider, when you change dose they suspend your programme and restart at the new dose. I requested a dose change last week. You can order the new dose as soon as it has been approved, or leave it for a while if you have a few doses left. I was leaving mine as I still have a whole 5mg pen in the fridge. On seeing the news yesterday, I ordered the 7.5. My provider later send out a general email about the pricing situation and said they would honour everyone’s current price for the next pen, so I have 3 pens in the pipeline (1 x 5 and 2 x 7.5). I’m hoping these will be my last - I have a little over a stone to go.

I’m with Juniper so the prices are high anyway (£229 for a 7.5mg pen), it will be interesting to see how the more expensive providers adapt to the changes.

I was meant to jab the first dose of my last 5mg pen yesterday - but I haven’t done it yet. I think I will adapt the dose to 6mg and see if that helps with my lack of focus. I have strictly followed my prescribed dosing schedule to date, but yesterday’s news has made me more inclined to play with doses and maybe even try to use the extra liquid at some point.

Welcome back from holiday @Sheldon4k- sounds amazing!

(no weight off for me this week, but an overall loss in 16 weeks of 31.5lbs is still fabulous!)

GoGoGovy · 15/08/2025 09:04

@PumpKim my experience with Wegovy has been slightly different from @Crunchymum . Hopefully other wegovy users will come along and tell you about their experiences and then you can make an informed decision.

I’m coming to the end of week 14 and have lost 21lbs (average 1.4lbs per week). It has been slow and steady. I never had the big early losses that you Mounjaro girls experienced.
There is plenty of evidence showing that weight loss is greater on Mounjaro, however, my slower weight loss may also be because I had a lower bmi (30.3) to start with, so less to lose and I have done a lot of exercise and perhaps some of that flab has turned into muscle ( wishful thinking)
I suppose you have to work out the maths. Will taking the cheaper wegovy actually cost less if you have to take it for longer? Can you take the short term hit if you stay on Mounjaro? What are your thoughts on long term maintenance?

I have stayed with Asda the whole time. They did give me a £10 off voucher once, but the rest of the time I have paid their normal price. I have just purchased the 2.4 pen, which is the highest wegovy pen you can get and it cost £188 excluding postage. You can pick up for free at Asda or pay £4.50 for cold next day delivery

I’m really sad that you have been put in this situation. It’s a really cynical move by the Trump and the US drugs companies. Hopefully, the UK pharmacies will be able to negotiate better deals in the next few weeks and it won’t be as bad as the press are making out.

Edited as I have just read @PumpKim update, so the bit about taking a short term hit isn’t an option. Sorry.

Coventree · 15/08/2025 09:43

I’ve caved and just ordered 3 x 7.5mg pens from different suppliers…using the golden dose and the pen I’ve already got, that would see me through to Christmas when I’m due to hit goal weight (if I carry on as I am). Poor old credit card! But quite a few suppliers are either out of stock or not taking new customers so it’s taken a bit of digging this morning. Got them all around the £135ish mark (using monj.co.uk). I wonder if they’ll all make it through the review stage or get cancelled due to low stock etc.

I don’t want to play the system like this and wonder if I’ll get a rap on the knuckles from the doctors if/when the prescription letters arrive…but I can explain my reasoning and show I’m not taking more than one dose at a time. I just don’t want to risk losing the progress I’ve made. ☹️☹️☹️

I looked at doing this but have chickened out!
I've used the same supplier and im hoping they don't hike the price too much. Im thinking of staying on 7.5mg one month longer to use the pen for smaller doses to wean off

Coventree · 15/08/2025 09:48

And well done for the movers and careful holiday makers - sorry the MJ news is dominating the chat at the moment…but we still see you 👏🎉❤️

Merlin23 · 15/08/2025 09:53

My official weigh in today.
SW 14st 6lbs
CW 11st 5lbs

I lost 3lbs this week
Total loss 43lbs (3st 1lb)

I am going to have to suck up the new cost as I've found something that works. Just so pleased I started when I did. Imagine how people in month one are feeling.

Coventree · 15/08/2025 09:54

Yeah @Merlin23, I was thinking once I reached goal weight, having a month or so to maintain and then maybe one 5mg to do two weeks at 5 and whatever I could at 2.5mg…but on top of Christmas costs, if the prices do massively increase, I don’t feel I’ll be able to afford that in Jan/Feb now. Who knows, maybe it’s just panic in the absence of known prices and it will settle down. Hopefully you’ll be rewarded for your loyalty through your supplier 😊

Edited to add: that’s brilliant progress, well done!!!!

Let's hope so. As my goal is still in the overweight category hopefully they won't be fazed by keeping me on 7.5mg

RubyJuno · 15/08/2025 10:40

Hi All, I’ve been reading but not contributed much recently cos not much interesting to say… plodding along, steady loss of 32lb in 16 weeks. Went to a wedding last weekend and felt really nice - it was a mini goal to have lost enough weight to feel like it made a difference and it did!

I have panic bought 3 doses this morning. Have done 4 weeks on 7.5 already so ordered another 7.5 and then 2x 10 from different suppliers in hope that’ll take me up to December and at current rate of loss that’ll have me 4 stone down. I did think once I have my 10mg I could order a 12 from somewhere but who knows what supplies will be like next week?!

I’ve paid in full for one of them but was able to use PayPal pay-in-3 for 2 of them so that should spread the cost a bit. Paid between £130 and £170 for them including postage.

We’re going on holiday next Thursday so for my next 2 doses I am going to stretch them a bit to leave 10 days between each, partly so I don’t have to take a new pen with me to a hot country and partly so I can enjoy eating out a bit more.

I’m considering the golden dose business, having been a goody-goody about it up to now (I guess this cost increase will see a lot of people bending rules…). Would someone please link again to a reliable supplier of needles and sterilising wipes! Thank you!

bridgetreilly · 15/08/2025 11:19

Blood test results are in and my HBA1C (blood sugars) has gone down from 72 to 35 in four months on MJ. 48 is the diabetic level and 42 is pre-diabetic. So that is a really impressive result. The huge dose of metformin I was on hadn’t been hitting it at all. Appointment in a couple of weeks to review the meds but I’m very hopeful that I can come off some things.
