Roll up, roll up...thread 3 for the loveliest bunch of losers!

"Onwards & Downwards" has become our little motto for the days when it all feels a bit tough and that wine / chocolate / cake looks a bit too bloody tempting.

Lots of love,
Lass x

WK5D3: Weigh-in day. I'm glad I weighed early on Friday because it kept me focused over the weekend when I could have gone mad. I've also managed to lose 1lb so that's absolutely marvellous.

SW: 240 / 17 stone 2lbs
CW: 225 / 16 stone 1lb
GW: 140 / 10 stone

Mentally I'm a bit all over the place. Our house sale is nearly complete after what seems like years and then we'll be moving to somewhere I've only visited briefly. I'm also due to start a new role around the same time. I'm... scared.

Rather than plunging my face into a vat of cold beer, I'm going to have to feel my feelings and not smother them with the warm blanket of alcohol.

Whilst eating salad.

I'm also getting in my head about how much weight I have to lose. I think I need some midway goal weights.

notgonnafail · 09/06/2025 08:28

Like others, I'm having a peculiar time of it in week 3. Have decided to stop weighing daily as I'm getting obsessed with the numbers and they've started to ruin my day if things aren't going the way I want them to. It doesn't matter that I know my body has an 8-9 day pattern of ups/downs/stalls etc, or that metabolism works in odd ways that don't make weightloss a linear thing, I feel really low if I gain, a bit rubbish if I stay the same, and am only happy if it goes down. So, going to measure on jab day and do photos and weigh only on new pen day.

@OhPolly so glad to know Ddog came through all that and is doing ok, hope you have him home now/soon x

ElsieJay · 09/06/2025 08:39

@DidILeaveTheGasOn - thanks for the tip about the Buccastem, will stock up just in case. Nothing worse than feeling vomity 🤢.

Congrats on your weight loss, nearly down to the next stone bracket, that’s amazing.
You’re certainly living in interesting times at the moment, my best buddy in stressful situations has always been chocolate, so well done for bingeing on salad !

Good plan to set interim mini-targets to stay focussed and having the warm glow of satisfaction in achieving them. Not quite the same warm glow that you’d get from the beer, but probably better for you! 🤣

ElsieJay · 09/06/2025 08:48

@notgonnafail - I know exactly what you mean, your whole day hinges on those few seconds on the scales and the numbers they show.
Our home scales are very unreliable so since starting MJ I’ve only used the scales in our little local pharmacy, weighing first thing on a Friday morning. It’s normally very quiet then, which is a bonus!

planesick · 09/06/2025 08:57

So, I had an Aldi protein yogurt drink yesterday 🤢
I also had a sausage sandwich instead of going to bed. I have been going to bed early instead of snacking...last night....I just couldn't. This morning though, I feel so angry at myself! I have quite liked feeling hungry and not snacking. It felt like I was in charge...last night, not so much 😢
I shall see what the scales say when I go to work later.
Onwards and downwards everyone!

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 09/06/2025 09:09

I know what you mean @planesick. Don't be cross with yourself - I do remember coming to this thread to talk about walnuts in a similar fashion last week so I really get it - you are still in charge and nothing has been lost. Sausages are a good source of protein - I know, I know, I didn't want to hear walnuts were good for me either - try not to give yourself a hard time. You're still in charge.

notgonnafail · 09/06/2025 09:11

@planesick Don't beat yourself up. You're still in control. You wantedba sausage sandwich. Perhaps your body actually needed that. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good here. We're human. We will have moments when we don't eat as well as we expect ourselves too, or will snack when we don't think we should. Try and remember your body still has needs and it is ok to fulfill them.

@ElsieJay I'm glad I'm not alone! I have a very addictive personality and am AuDHD so can hyperfixate on stuff far too easily! I want this time around to be about rebuilding a supoortive and loving connection with my body and mind, by listening to its needs and trying to remember that food is there to fuel my body - not another way to punish myself for being weak and not good enough! I've been finding the Fat Science podcast (can't remember if it was someone on this thread or one of the continuing MJ threads that suggested it) really useful, even though Dr Cooper's advice feels like its a million miles from everything I've been indoctrinated with before! Maybe this time, doing something very different, will make the difference between success and failure this time around.

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 09/06/2025 09:13

@notgonnafail 'Don't let perfect be the enemy of good' Oh you wise sage, I love this!

notgonnafail · 09/06/2025 09:15

@DidILeaveTheGasOn I thank you! 😆

Spent a lifetime supporting others to change their relationships with their bodies, improving their health as a psychotherapist and complementary therapist, but always failed to find what worked for mine!

SaintAgatha · 09/06/2025 09:16

@notgonnafail I weigh monthly. It takes a lot of self-control but I hate being at the mercy of the scales and how quickly an unexpected gain can alter my whole mood! Onwards and downwards, and don’t beat yourself up over a sausage.

notgonnafail · 09/06/2025 09:25

@SaintAgatha This is exactly it. Don't want to get too caught up in the numbers.

In a way, though I do need to lose about 90lbs, I didn't decide to do this because of my weight. I wanted to try it because I have a number of chronicnillnesses including autoimmune liver disease and have been so impressed by all the other benefits research has been showing for people on these meds: lower inflammation, reduction in blood glucose/lipids/other blood markers, lower blood pressure and most importantly for me in the hope it may ward off dementia/Alzheimers as every single woman on my mother's side of the family ended their lives with it and I don't want to follow in their footsteps. If I lose weight too, then that feels like a bonus, but it is all the NSVs that I really want.

I've been weighing every day since I started and I don't think it's helping me to focus on how I'm actually feeling, so hoping that will change if I go back to my usual monthly check-in on everything, then forgetting about numbers so I can notice any actual changes to my conditions.

I hear you. I’ve got a very similar amount to lose (similar start and current weight) and we have our house under offer after two years of getting it ready (and emptying my late father’s house that we’re moving into). I daren’t even say it’s sold as a friend was supposed to buy it last year and let us down after 3 months because she had a bad dream!.

I don’t have a target weight because it’s just too depressing. Any loss is a bonus for now. I’ll deal with naming a goal weight when I’m a few stones nearer!

Iggy35 · 09/06/2025 09:46

@DidILeaveTheGasOn

I'm also getting in my head about how much weight I have to lose. I think I need some midway goal weights.

I have broken down my target weight (minus 40kg/minus 90 lbs) to 25 mini targets and I love it.

They can be:
1-2-3 stone loss
New stone bracket
10/20/30 kg lost
25%/50% of target achieved
10%/20%/30% of my body weight lost
Then being under 100 kg or under 200 lbs
Being outside of obese 2/1 category, being in overweight category

  • Some specific weight target's (eg I'm now xxx lbs which is the lowest I was since Christmas 2023 etc etc)

When I added it all up I got to 25 targets (especially now in the beginning, I have a mini target approx every 5 lbs so it makes me excited to go for the next one and the next one)

I now achieved 6 out of the 25 targets 💪🏼

OhPolly · 09/06/2025 10:10

Morning everyone!

Another early start to the week here but I just can't get into the swing of the work day. I have zero motivation and I'm 100% distracted and just don't know where to start.

I also have a lot of life admin things I need to do but never seem to find time. I've felt exhausted the past two days, no idea why but I can't shake the feeling. I think I'm getting a bit close to burn out and might book some annual leave.

We saw DDog yesterday and she looked very sorry for herself and still quite out of it. She's doing better then she was on Friday so that's a plus. I'm awaiting a update from the surgeons today about her. Hopefully it's good news!

I want to get back into meal planning and eating proper meals again and it's just been quite hard the last few weeks to do that. I need some inspiration!

Hope everyone has a good day.

@OhPolly
She looks gorgeous. Hope you get some good news from the doctors soon x

keeponplodding7 · 09/06/2025 10:22

Morning all. W5d1 (sort of week 6 but I took a week off). Ive just taken the bonus dose. Was pretty easy with the pliers - I feel like a criminal 😂. Hoping for. Other good week. We had a weekend of entertaining but I’m another lb down this morning. I’d have never lost weight before with a weekend like this one so feeling good

Mounraine · 09/06/2025 10:34

Thank you @Fatrosrhun - spa hotels are one of my greatest pleasures. I normally run cold but on MJ I’ve been freezing! It’s bliss to chill out in a tropical spa and jacuzzi.
Well done on dodging the takeaway. MJ is having a similar effect on me, in so far as I’m just less bothered by my usual “treat” foods. Not always, but often.

lifetheuniverseandeverything42 · 09/06/2025 10:48

Three weeks and 13.5lb down, tantalisingly close to a stone. After that my next mini target is 14st (88.9kg) which I’m hoping for end June early July. I’m expecting the loss to slowdown a bit and be more like 1kg a week.

Start date: 17th May 2025
Start weight: 98.40kg 15 1/2st
Goal weight: 67.00kg top end of healthy BMI
Current weight: 92.3kg

Week 1: 2.65kg / 5.5lb
Week 2: 2kg / 4.5lb
Week 3: 1.45kg / 3lb

Total loss to date: 6.10kg / 13.5lb

i can’t wait to get to dropping a size but I do think my jeans are feeling a bit looser.

Fatrosrhun · 09/06/2025 11:20

Well done. That’s a great first three weeks. I think it will be a while before I drop a size as I’ve been squeezing into clothes that I probably shouldn’t have!

AlicesMum2025 · 09/06/2025 11:48

Slightly late post because the weekend was really busy.

Took first 3.75mg dose from my 5mg pen Friday night and did week 5 weigh in on Saturday morning. I lost 1.2kg (2.6lb) bringing my total loss to 8.1kg (17.9lb) and 3.2 points off my BMI. Very happy with this as I was on my period this week.

Luckily no SEs from increase in dose, same as when I increased from 2.5mg with my bonus dose of 3.3mg. I didn't notice a big difference in suppression until yesterday evening when I could quite happily have skipped dinner, although I made sure to eat anyway.

Since the beginning I have been eating three meals a day even if I don't feel hungry. I know that I need to eat in order to stay nourished and it isn't healthy to skip meals.

I've also been getting better with taking my supplements. Multivitamin, vitamin D, magnesium (I was getting muscle cramps) and B12. B12 is the one I read was most important when on WLI because it helps with fatigue. If anyone is feeling really tired perhaps try that...

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 09/06/2025 12:11

Lovely brunch today, meant to be breakfast but I'm on a project deadline, silly work.

Brunch wrap:

High protein wrap (11g protein, 96cals)
2 scrambled eggs (12g protein, 200cals)
2 turkey rashers (12g protein, 60cals),
Plus a fair smattering of chopped cherry tomatoes and an ungodly amount of coriander.
Total protein: 35g! and total calories: 400.

I swear coriander is like crack.

I've also had a protein shake, so I'm on about 55g protein so far.

Does anyone use a walking pad? After my hobbling success in London on Friday, I'm determined to get back on my feet. I'm looking at this but dillydallying over the decision due to the cost.

@Fatrosrhun and @Iggy35 You guys made me feel better, @Iggy35 I love the idea of having 25 mini targets! I might set myself some later, very inspiring!

Fatrosrhun · 09/06/2025 12:31

@ohpolly she’s just so cute. I really hope that they can get to the bottom of what’s happening soon and you can get her home And well done for keeping on track despite it. That’s my biggest thing to conquer- not going off the rails when things go wrong.

Sending get well vibes from my two… (once approved!)

I’m on W6 and am just so constipated. It’s really the only SE I’ve experienced so I know I’m lucky.
i wasn’t exactly regular before starting, but I can’t actually remember last time I went.
i drink 2-3 litres a day and have been taking 2 spoonfuls of inulin powder a day but nothing.
bit of reading last night and I’ve realised inulin doesn’t have that purpose so that was never going to help.
I’ve just been to H&B and bought psyllium husk tablets. Going home to take 2 and hopefully get a response in a few days.
ideally before weigh day on Wednesday 😆

Mounraine · 09/06/2025 13:11

What else are you eating @MyScaredCat ? How much gentle exercise like walking and stretching do you do to help your digestion?
