Mounjaro disappointment :(

Stars12 · 12/05/2025 14:38

I am 5 days into Mounjaro and feeling a bit disappointed! I AM STARVING! I did lots of reading and talking with other people on it before making the decision to start. Everyone I know has had appetite suppression almost immediately, no food noise, even D&V! I have had no change at all! I am literally relying on willpower alone and still want to eat everything! I’ve even checked the pen to make sure it actually went in 🤦🏽‍♀️. Please can anyone reassure me that this has been the same for them?!

2.5mg for me was like injecting water!! I didn’t have a single side effect and my suppression was basically zero bar the odd day where I wouldn’t snack but still ate all of my meals!

I started on 5mg Friday and can feel suppression now. It’s not overwhelming as if I can’t finish my meals, but it’s enough for me to not think about food during the day and having a small lunch and being satisfied by it!

I hope 5mg works for me as I’m not keen to move up the doses too quickly!

Thank you! I just wanted to hear similar experiences to mine instead of “30 mins after 2.5 I couldn’t eat a thing for a week!” which is what everyone I know seems to have had. I’ll keep going….

@Stars12defo keep going! It’s so easy to get disappointed, every time I stood on the scales the last 4 weeks I kept getting more deflated, my sister managed to lose 2 stone on 2.5!! But it works different ways for different people, which I suppose why it’s called a loading dose!

PersnickettyLemons · 12/05/2025 18:27

I understand, I’m 10 months in now been on the full dose for 4 months and lost two stone (have about 4.5 more to lose)
My friend is five months in and has lost a stone a month. It’s galling but I’m trying to trust the process.

Isobel201 · 12/05/2025 18:58

Don't worry - first month I weighed in, I only lost three pounds, but that was barely the start of things to come. It doesn't start working instantly - the low dose just gets your body used to the medication. I'm on 2.5 and I've lost over half a stone now in two months.

BethDuttonYeHaw · 12/05/2025 19:01

I didn’t really get suppression until 5mg. And don’t lost that much till 7.5mg. 2.5mg isn’t therapeutic. It’s just getting your body introduced to it.

just start getting into a habit of focusing on protein and green veg and drinking lots of water.

8 months on I’ve lost 4.5 stone

Dreichweather · 12/05/2025 19:03

My first dose of 2.5 did nothing but I was so terrified of side effects that I ate really well and had my biggest lose. After my swcond dose it started to kick in.

Disturbia81 · 12/05/2025 19:03

Keep going OP, think of the long game.

1 stone 4 is brilliant in 6 weeks.

To me, that's the sweet spot, suppression-wise. Mine was far too strong at one point on 5 and eating anything felt like a struggle. Forcing down a bit of chicken is no fun!
Thankfully it's now more like the level you describe - the snacking or nibbling urge has gone away but eating a sensible sized meal feels comfortable.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/05/2025 16:19

Give it time. I didn’t get a lot till 10 tbh

10mths later and almost 6s off and getting near to healthy bmi

Doggielove2 · 13/05/2025 16:21

2.5 IS NOT A THERAPEUTIC DOSE

InfoSecInTheCity · 13/05/2025 17:34

A good point has been raised on this thread and that’s what ‘suppression’ looks like.

like you I heard lots of stories about basically being completely unable to eat, and it has never hit me like that. For me it makes my ability to control my hunger more manageable. Before I would obsess, if someone offered me a slice of cake for example and I said no then that would replay for me, I’d regret saying no, I’d think about whether I could change my mind if I had a planned to have a smaller dinner, I’d get hungrier and hungrier, my mouth would water, my belly would rumble and I’d think about it non-stop till I ate the cake or I’d get something else. I was constantly hungry and planning the next thing I would eat.

With MJ I still feel hungry, I could eat several plates at a buffet, I can look at the cake and think yum, but if I say no, or decide I can wait till dinner or think that I’ve had enough then I just make that decision and put it out of my mind and move on.

Right now I’m hungry, I can feel my belly rumbling and smell the taco meet DH is cooking in the kitchen, but I’m not grabbing a babybel to see me through till it’s cooked, because I know I’ll be fed soon and I can wait till then and think about something else until that time.

I definitely understand the obsessing over food. It’s an addiction. I’m definitely hungry, but I am able to ignore it to a certain degree and think about what I will eat next. Something struck me earlier…there was a half eaten Easter egg on the side that the kids had been eating. I wrapped it up and put it back in the cupboard as I was tidying up. It occurred to me that I didn’t just put the whole lot in my mouth which is 100% what I would’ve done before. And it wasn’t a debate in my head to put it back, I just did it. So maybe some of that ‘noise’ is reducing.

Op with respect calm down 😂 you are five days into a long journey and only on the lowest starting dose. Give it time to build up into your system.

AgathaMystery · 13/05/2025 18:43

You’ve not ‘done research’. Read the original paper.

Why would anyone want to lose a stone a month for 5 months? The loose skin and hair and muscle loss would be awful.

You expected to lose more than 18lbs in 6 weeks? Why??

Rainbowchicken · 13/05/2025 19:56

BlueTitShark · 12/05/2025 15:33

Another one here who felt nothing at 2.5mg. I actually still felt very little at 5mg too.
But 7.5mg? Suddenly it’s all be o ing so much easier!

Having said that, I totally get the heart sinking feeling. I also wondered why I was spending so much money for nothing 😂

Hold tight!

I was exactly the same. 7.5mg is working well but only for about 3-4 days then it wears off. I'll probably stick with this dose next month though. You need to just be patient and keep going up the doses until you find the dose that works for you. 2.5mg was like injecting water for me but the good thing is I've had next to no side effects even on 7.5mg.

I know, I lost 3 stone in 6 months and was ecstatic with that!

FknOmniShambles · 13/05/2025 20:25

Hi OP.
I've lost 4 stone in 100 days and MJ is the best thug I've ever done. But I would say, I had to have a really good understanding of my own body, and my brain's weaknesses. It took willpower and a complete overhaul of my lifestyle and commitment to doing better... The MJ just took away the constant food noise (hate that phrase.)
I panicked like you when I lost nothing in week one - then it happened and I started losing quickly, eating less and feeling great.

blubbyblub · 13/05/2025 20:30

I know people who felt nothing until they got to 7.5 or even 10.
