Thought I'd kick start a new thread for this oh so supportive little group, as the last thread was reaching it's limit.

Hello, may I join this thread? New to both Mounjaro and Mumsnet so finding my way!

Had first jab on Monday.
Starting weight - 164.1kg
Height - 1.8m
Starting BMI - 46.3

Menopause has chucked an extra 6kg on for no good reason other than it can!

Apparently, a healthy weight for a woman of my height would be 78 to 82 kilograms. Well, I was 80kg when I was 20 and I was THIN, like really, really thin so I'm not aiming for anything like that.

So if I can get into the overweight range, that would be a win for me. Also, I am a bit worried about my face collapsing given that I'm 51 so, you know, gotta 'weigh' it all up!

All of that said, I am very uncomfortable this big, everything hurts, I worry about going anywhere in case I can't fit into the seats. I am heading towards diabetes and I have a very bad back (I did pre weight gain but this certainly isn't helping) so it's time.

Thank you all for your inspiring posts.

Hello everyone! Hope it’s OK if I join in! Just had my consultation with Live Well Weight Loss and my first pen is going to be dispatched tomorrow.

starting weight: 134.8kg
height: 168cm (5ft 6in)
starting BMI: 48 😱

So I’ve got a long long way to go - about 66kg to get to the top end of a healthy BMI. Can’t actually imagine that as I’ve been overweight since my teens and I am in my late 30s now. To start with I’d be delighted to get my BMI under 40 tbh!

Bit nervous about the whole endeavour but I am hopeful too. Some of your stories are so inspiring!

Welcome aboard. Mine was 53 in January and it’s now 46. Slowly and surely it’s going in the right direction. The best thing for me with these injections is the consistency of losses, I’ve never had sustained weight loss for months before.

FourSeasonsTotalLandscaping · 21/05/2025 15:24

Good luck @Snaccidentall! I know what you mean about worrying about your face collapsing: all these years of being fat my main consolation has been "well at least it's kept my face looking young"! On the other hand, I am looking forward to hopefully a future where I no longer worry about fitting into seats and no longer feel the pit of dread open up when the only chairs available have arms.

My first pen has been dispatched and should be here tomorrow so I guess tomorrow is the day. Eek.

Absolutely this. I’m always being told I don’t look my age (57) and I put it down to “natural filler”. And it does worry me as my mum lost a lot of weight due to illness and looked 20 years older than she was. However she lost it quickly and was a smoker. However I’m doing this for my health and longevity, trying not to die in my early 60s like she and my gran did, and my dad had a cardiac arrest at 54 (he survived). We can’t defer visible ageing forever and I’m expecting to look older but as long as I’ve done everything I can to be around longer for my son and husband I’ll accept it. My sister has decided to also try MJ, which I’m pleased about for the same reasons.

Had my first dose last night and have absolutely no appetite today! Been out with friends to a a cafe I really like and just had ice cream. Would usually be burger and chips!

Hi lovely.
I don't know the answer, but i know that some people don't find the dose therapeutic until 15mg. If you've gone up every month or so this may be the case with you.
It may not be a case of no where else to go, just a case of not hitting that magic dose for you yet.
Dunno if that helps x x x

Please god I hope your right
I'm just wanting to eat and eat at the moment

Veganpug · 21/05/2025 16:43

I name change so much I loose track of who I am ,
So maybe I haven't joined this thread before
I can't remember.
But hello and thankyou for letting me join .
Been on mango 8 months ,6 stone loss
Next week is first week on 15
Still have another six stone to loose to get to an ok BMI ISH
Or I think 4 stone to a size 16 ..which I'd be happy with to be fair
Because I'm 52 , nothing is going to spring back ,I've not the money for skin removal,so I need to stop loosing weight probably around a size 16 to avoid skin.

52soon · 21/05/2025 16:43

Wk 6 5mg jab done today, still slow and steady for me
4 x 2.5mg lost 2,1,2,1 total 6lbs
1 x 5mg lost 2lbs
no Side effects bar post meno bleeding straight after first 5mg, Dr sending for 2 week gynae appointment but told me to keep taking jab until seen. Prescribed for diabetes. I can definitely see a difference in my clothes and got back into size 22 jeans that haven’t fit for a long time.

Hello
I can't remember if I've joined this thread before or not .
I just posted asking for advice about going up to 15 ,and if it stops working
I've lost 6 stone and I'm wondering if when you get to 15 ,that's the end of weight loss

Hi @Veganpug, have you looked at the Surmount trial data? If you Google it and have a read it might put your mind at rest, people were consistently losing weight on 15mg throughout the 72 week trial. I’ve just taken my 4th dose of 15mg and I’m not worried about the ‘nowhere to go’ statement. I’ve still got 5 stone to go (but aiming for 4 realistically).

Same as me 😊..I'd be happy with another 4 stone off too
I will look that trial up thankyou

Sorry .. questions
Did you feel different after taking 15 ,the first time
Any extra side effects

Iwouldratherbesinging · 21/05/2025 16:53

@Snaccidentall and @FourSeasonsTotalLandscaping another worried about face collapse and losing natures natural Botox! I’m not too bad actually but my skincare routine has gone from zero to full on in the last 7 months, I’m 57 and am a few pounds off of a 5 stone loss, my neck started to go a bit scraggy but has improved slightly so some ‘bits’ must right themselves over time.

Doggymummar · 21/05/2025 16:57

I've been on 15mg since December and still lose the 1lb a week I am aiming for. It was jab day today and I could eat a scabby horse as the saying goes. It doesn't seem to make a difference really to me what the strength is. I didn't get suppression until 10mg anyway so quite used to having will power.

I've had to use a lot of willpower to
It's not been an easy ride

Kay2000 · 21/05/2025 17:32

I don’t think it’s a bad thing to have to use some willpower, if we want to keep the weight off.

@Veganpug I'm in a very similar to you. Been on monjaro since August 2024. Lost 5 and a half stone. Got 4 more stone to go until I'm happy (will still be overweight!). Recently the 12.5 dose just hasn't been working that well for me. I could easily go back to my old unhealthy eating habits, though I haven't as yet!

Yes totally me to .
Today has been so hard ,I've wanted all the things I'd managed to stop eating.
Some weeks it has felt like I'm not on any medication.
I can't relate to the people who had full suppression and no hunger .
I'm constantly weighing up if it's worth it
I'm sure it's my will power doing the actual work ,and mango is just a mental thing ,making me think I've got help .last time I lost 5 stone without mango ,it was no harder than this time with mango.
But ..I don't want to risk coming of it and being wrong

Veganpug · 21/05/2025 18:17

Could you imagine if all turned out to be a complete scam
Like a social experiment,to prove to us we can loose weight.
And the mango was just a placebo, and we had all done it ,lost weight ,by the power of thinking we had some help from the injections.
With the state of politics at the moment, you never know

TheFunkyDuckling · 21/05/2025 18:34

Just received my 3rd pen.
Was torn between going up to 7.5mg or staying on 5mg, but chose to stay at 5mg at list for another month...
Anyway, the pen i have received is 7.5mg, so looks like I'm going up now! Fingers crossed i still don't get many side effects.
I wasn't so keen to jump up the doses this quickly.

@veganpug
That would have to be a large conspiracy involving fraudulent science on a wide scale which would end the careers of any scientist involved if found out. Extremely unlikely imho. But sounds like a great idea for a TV show or novel!

SilenceInside · 21/05/2025 18:45

@TheFunkyDuckling you could count clicks to do a 5mg dose from a 7.5mg pen if you didn’t want to step up right away. It would be 40 clicks for 5mg from a 7.5mg pen.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 21/05/2025 18:49

Hello @Veganpug
I've been on 15mg for several months and it's still working.

That’s what I’ve done as I can’t tolerate 7.5 yet. I’m on 6.25 (50 clicks) currently.

I might try counting the clicks if i don't tolerate 7.5.
I'm a bit wary of not ordering regularly enough from the pharmacy and getting kicked off, like if the pen lasts longer than the recommended 4 doses, already feel like I'm pushing my luck using the golden dose.
But I'll deffo bare this in mind if I struggle with the 7.5.

Do pharmacies support you going back down a dose if you do struggle with a certain dose?
