I didn’t expect to need a new thread in under 2 weeks but here we go!

Thanks for all the support everyone. I skimmed the old thread last night and we have over 80 posters (not a typo) starting in the last 2 weeks! I will work out if I can tag regular posters later but the old thread is close to full so wanted to get this up and running for Friday updates.

No judgement at all on any secret jabbers, but just to offer another perspective, I’ve been open about it and in the past two weeks have found two people in ‘real life’ who are on it too and it’s been lovely to talk about it with them. Only one negative reaction so far, and that’s from someone who openly admits she’s struggling with her weight, so I feel that’s more to do with her circumstance than a comment on mine. I told the kids (aged 9 and 13) when the first pen arrived and they sort of shrugged and haven’t asked any other questions since!

I can’t understand why the media’s so negative about the injections, other than click-bait, and my dad was initially concerned for me due to what he’d read until I talked him through it, but there’s a hell of a lot of people on them so chances are some of your friendship/family/work circles are also doing it and might be able to provide support. But you all know your circumstances better than a random me on the internet!

@PumpKim Before looking into it, I definitely thought the medication itself made you lose weight, rather than it being a tool to help you eat healthily which then makes you lose weight!

Zebracat · 11/05/2025 09:31

Thanks for the article. I found it frustrating because it does seem to accept the fallacy that the fat just melts away. It doesn’t. I’m making conscious decisions to eat less and differently, and to exercise more. We are still doing the work. I get my Mounjaro from my local pharmacy, the pharmacist mentors me. I asked her whether I should stay on 2.5, because I am losing well. She said no. She said it’s a deliberately low dose and will lose effectiveness in the second month. I trust her so I am moving up to 5.

Whilst this is the current belief there are studies now starting to question if there is a secondary mechanism involving how fat is used when on these meds. I found this fascinating. I think there is still a lot to be discovered and understood about how they work both on weight loss and the possibility of their impact on addiction.

Why Do We Lose Weight on GLP-1 Drugs?

A new study once again suggests something far more profound than eating less.

But none of that detracts from the truth that the drugs only assist the process. We still have to make the effort to improve our diets, focus on nutrition and exercise. All the meds do is level the playing field so we are able to choose to do this without our bodies sabotaging our efforts with cravings, like some people always can naturally.

Just a bit of disclosure about me.
I am a 55 year old man. After being pre diabetic for about a decade i was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 6 months ago.
I also have high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
I am not a secret jabber, my step daughter has lost 5 stone over the last 7 months with the help of mounjaro. My wife has lost 7 stone after going to Turkey for gastric sleeve surgery. Im proud of them both and they are very supportive of me trying mounjaro.
Start weight 18 stone 7lb
Current weight after 3 weeks 17st 13lb.
I am 6ft 2" so "carry" the weight quite well.
God i need this to work !!

I’m looking forward to your future posts about your blood pressure and cholesterol numbers going down, because you have defo got this @Scousebloke!
you are doing really well and we are all here for you.

Scousebloke · 11/05/2025 10:05

@MsRicoletti thankyou. I joined this group hoping the women would be supportive of each other (and of the odd bloke choosing mumsnet). I have not been dissapointed.

@Scousebloke similar here with the BP and cholesterol, alot of diabetes in the family too so I’m trying avoid that!

Only my daughter and husband know about my MJ and they are so supportive, but this group is really great for people in a similar situation. 😊

Absolutely, I think it’s probably even harder for men to talk about this due to how weight loss culture is so ingrained as a ‘women’s club in the community centre’ sort of thing. Really glad you found us and felt able to join in.hopefully more men will too, or find other supportive spaces. The impact this will have on all of our health is something noone could imagine a couple of years ago. I recently started browsing Reddit which I’ve never used and more men are sharing mounjaro updates there which is fab to see.

@wlinewbie0425 your right that most people are suprised that a man in his 50's is taking a weight loss jab and think its mainly a woman's thing. One advantage, not sure if its just me or men in general, is i do not have the slightest feeling of shame for taking it. Genuinely couldn't care less if someone is a bit jugdemental over it. I am doing it for the right reasons. I want to be around for my grand kids. I have seven of them, all under 8 years.

Chunkysewist · 11/05/2025 10:38

@Scousebloke i love your attitude towards it and so glad you have joined this group for support. I really enjoy reading things from a guy's perspective 😊

Well done all the losses over the weekend everyone!

For me its W3D6 i felt suppression to be lower this week in the sense of Ive thought more about food and felt like I wanted to eat but I have noticed when I do eat I'm still full on a smaller portion and feel satisfied so that's good. I've returned the original 5mg pen as the pharmacy requested and waiting for another to be sent out to replace it. I'm considering seeing how much is left for the golden dose, if I can get anywhere between 0.6 to 0.9 I'll take it. 0.9 I think would equate to 3.75mg so a little increase ready for the 5mg pen.

Hope everyone has a lovely Sunday. I'm off to hobbycraft, I'm happy but the husband is less so! 🤣

Apprenante · 11/05/2025 10:40

I'm taking Mounjaro largely because a male friend - in his 40s if that's relevant - has been posting about using it. He's lost a lot and looks so much healthier. So the very real image of 'the women in the community centre' is being broken!

Scousebloke · 11/05/2025 10:48

@Chunkysewist
Lol at you being happy going to hobbycraft but the husband less so

MsRicoletti · 11/05/2025 11:02

@Chunkysewist I LOVE hobbycraft!!! Have a fabulous crafty time 🙂

MsRicoletti · 11/05/2025 11:14

I’ve weighed myself a day early today as curious about last nights cocktail and tapas possibly having an effect …

Ive lost 4lb this week 🥳🥳🥳
I only lost 1lb last week. This takes me to the grand total so far of 11lb lost on my MJ journey … my last 2.5 dose is due tomorrow.

some things I’ve considered that were different this week to last week.

the obvious one is higher overall level of MJ due to additional jab.

I defo ate more this week, as I’ve been hungrier. I haven’t skipped meals or gone long periods without eating. Including having porridge most mornings.

I have tried hard to focus on protein, with various degrees of success but I’ve tried.

I’ve been less crazy with the water… first few weeks I was possibly drinking too much water. I now drink less but have added electrolytes.

ive stopped tracking calories this week so no real clue what ive been hitting calorie wise , go figure 🤷🏻‍♀️ (I find it too stressful)

Coventree · 11/05/2025 11:46

Well done @MsRicoletti🎉🎉🎉 and all the other ‘losers’. Interested to see how you get on with the 3.75mg dose @Chunkysewist, still nada impact here!

Pinkapron · 11/05/2025 12:30

Hi all, W3D7 here, 8lb down 🎉
Following keenly, but don’t get round to posting due to the swift movement on the thread!
I’m eating what I fancy, which is generally healthy, lots of veg, and consciously aiming for higher protein. I really can’t be doing with counting calories and logging every bite. However, I notice I’m satisfied on much less than before, and generally desire much less food than before, so hopefully this will continue. Need to up the exercise now.
I’m due no 4 jab tonight, but thinking of gradually moving it earlier, to before the weekend, to help with weekend suppression, has anyone tried this?
I’m also a fairly secret jabber, only DH and 2 doctor friends know. I really don’t want to hear anyone else’s opinions on it!
Thank you all for this lovely, supportive group, it’s very much appreciated, and I’m sure by many more who read but don’t post, especially the ‘secret jabbers’! 😊💐

Scousebloke · 11/05/2025 13:01

@MsRicoletti and @Pinkapron
Great results. Well done.

Chunkysewist · 11/05/2025 13:54

@MsRicoletti Thank you! 😁 I had great time wandering around there. I think my husband definitely appreciated the part where I sat on the floor and was comparing thread colours to my fabric for 10 mins to make sure they were a good match 😈

Well done on the loss! That's great!

@Pinkapron im slowly moving my jabs to a Monday. I'm going away on a Tues in May and I originally started jabs on a Wednesday. So I did my second jab a day early and I'll do my 5th jab a day earlier.

Well done on your loss!

Sallycinnamum · 11/05/2025 14:12

Happy to report third jab in and no side effects at all (touch wood!)

This time I jabbed my thigh so I don't know whether that's made a difference but feel like myself again and still strong suppression.

Another 1lb off since Friday so 8.5lbs in total.

I will see how this week goes!

Pinkapron · 11/05/2025 14:13

@Chunkysewist thank you, and good to know, I think I’ll have today’s jab now, and maybe next week’s on Saturday evening. Which will hopefully be the extra dose, will aim for 3.75 if possible 😉

TeatimeForTheSoul · 11/05/2025 15:31

It is really reassuring and motivating to read everyone’s stories here. Thank you.

I’m only W1D3 of 2.5mg but have already lost 2kg (about 4.5lb) due to the ‘gastric’ effects 😂
Has anyone else become very very sensitive to the effects of coffee? I LOVE my morning coffee, but now after 2 sips the bathroom needs to be available 😂 Sorry to be so basic, but does this settle down?

50lbstolose · 11/05/2025 16:22

I am so happy for everyone and the loses you have all had!!

I managed to miscalculate my BMI somehow, but I am not currently below 30, so I panicked for nothing.

I am w3 d2, 77.6kg, a whopping 8lb down!
I am amazed.

I have noticed that the massive suppression I had in the first week waned last week. I thought maybe it was due to injecting in thigh instead of belly? I injected in my belly this time and I'll see how I go.

I did order 2.5ml for my second month. I'll see how I go and up to 5 if I need to.

PoisonIvy89 · 11/05/2025 16:30

If only it was a magic fat melting jab! It is certainly making it easier to stick to a calorie deficit by making us less hungry and quieting the food noise. But we are still doing the work and making the healthier choices.
I know some people report complete aversion to food and having to force themselves to eat and struggling to eat 300calories a day, but for me I am having no trouble eating the foods I want to eat and am eating three meals a day. I am in a calorie deficit because I don't have food noise telling me to snack or binge but I am still making the choice to eat chicken and vegetables for dinner and not pizza.

Fantastic losses! @MsRicoletti @Pinkapron @Sallycinnamum @TeatimeForTheSoul @50lbstolose and anyone else I missed
