I didn’t expect to need a new thread in under 2 weeks but here we go!

Thanks for all the support everyone. I skimmed the old thread last night and we have over 80 posters (not a typo) starting in the last 2 weeks! I will work out if I can tag regular posters later but the old thread is close to full so wanted to get this up and running for Friday updates.

Whilst this is the current belief there are studies now starting to question if there is a secondary mechanism involving how fat is used when on these meds. I found this fascinating. I think there is still a lot to be discovered and understood about how they work both on weight loss and the possibility of their impact on addiction.

This is interesting thanks for sharing. I have lipoedema so I have areas of fat that I cannot lose no matter how much weight I lose, those fat cells just do not respond to anything other than being surgically removed. So if Mounjaro does in fact "liberate stored fat" and "reverses the fat trapping process" it will be interesting to see if it has any affect on that

I'm a semi-secret jabber.
My DH knows because I thought it was best for safety, plus he's supportive of my efforts to lose weight. My two SILs know as one of them is also on MJ and she encouraged me to try it and a close work friend who is on Wegovy, but none of our other colleagues know.
I've decided not to mention it to anyone else because I do feel there is a stigma and people are judgy, possibly because the media mainly prints horror stories. People have noticed my lunches have changed for example, and I tell them I'm calorie counting which is absolutely the truth. We need to do all the things anyone else does to lose weight, eat less, move more but the MJ just makes it easier to stick to. I don't think people realize that, I didn't really know that was the case until I started researching, I'd assume it was some magic fat melting elixir 🤣

Haha, I know what you mean. Before I researched mounjaro I just thought you magically lose weight. I don't know why now! But probably because of the way WLI are presented in the media - an easy option, cheating etc. But I now understand when people say you still have to put the work in. You do have to put the work in to plan your meals and exercise but mounjaro just makes it possible to stick to your plans long term.

Thanks for the article. I found it frustrating because it does seem to accept the fallacy that the fat just melts away. It doesn’t. I’m making conscious decisions to eat less and differently, and to exercise more. We are still doing the work. I get my Mounjaro from my local pharmacy, the pharmacist mentors me. I asked her whether I should stay on 2.5, because I am losing well. She said no. She said it’s a deliberately low dose and will lose effectiveness in the second month. I trust her so I am moving up to 5.

Thanks for that as I was wondering about sticking with 2.5ml as working so well.

I agree, it's fascinating, tbh!

You're doing great @Scousebloke!

@wlinewbie0425 your right that most people are suprised that a man in his 50's is taking a weight loss jab and think its mainly a woman's thing. One advantage, not sure if its just me or men in general, is i do not have the slightest feeling of shame for taking it. Genuinely couldn't care less if someone is a bit jugdemental over it. I am doing it for the right reasons. I want to be around for my grand kids. I have seven of them, all under 8 years.

Edited

I do think in general women are shamed more for their weight. But I'm with you that I have no shame and couldn't give a fuck if someone has a problem with it. To be blunt!!

Sunshineandpool · 11/05/2025 17:29

But no judgement on 'secret jabbers' I can understand why people might choose to do that. I do get so angry at all the 'cheating' nonsense that goes around and 'just eat less/move more!'

Brunocatmon · 11/05/2025 17:59

Good afternoon all.

Been away all weekend so just having a very quick catch up. I've missed a lot so I'll just say well done to everyone's with losses this week/day etc.

I can't remember who mentioned coffee but no gastric effects but i have gone off it somewhat. I don't think that's a bad thing to be fair.

So after my meltdown about thinking I might give up, I'm on wk2 day7 ( jab day ) and today the food noise has been creeping in so I'm not sure I'm ready to go it alone.

With that in mind I'll be doing my third 2.5 tonight as scheduled. If last week is anything to go by, I started getting ill 24 hours later and was so poorly I couldn't leave the bathroom or go to work on Tuesday. This Tuesday is my day off so I feel confident to just say fuck it and see what happens.

If I'm so poorly again, I'll speak to my pharmacist.cross your fingers for me please everyone, I really don't want to feel like that again.

Secondly, it says on my electrolytes that overuse can cause laxative effects so I haven't had any since last Wednesday. Is one tablet a day of electrolytes ok do we think?

Thirdly, what are we using for constipation that doesn't over react. I'm literally going once a week right now. I don't feel bad with it or anything but it can't be good for me it don't think.

Thanks if you read this whole things

This it right attitude

Crunchymum · 11/05/2025 18:19

W3D3 and I'm so, so hungry.

I haven't been having suppression in the classic sense but I'd been eating much less and feeling less hungry (still having 3 meals a day but healthy stuff and virtually zero snacks) but I'd definitely feel more hungry as the week went on.

This time - jab 3 - I've just continued to be hungry as if I hadn't jabbed. Not due on my period yet and I definitely took the medication correctly.

Will be ordering 5mg pen as soon as I'm able to as despite a good loss so far (8.5lb in 2 weeks) I've continued to feel hungry and at times actually deprived and a bit miserable.

I'm already dreading my Friday weigh-in. Silly I know.

I'm a semi secret jabber. I've told a few people (MIL and SIL) and I won't outright lie to any close friends or family - if I ever lose enough for it to be noticeable 🙃 but I'm not going to divulge to certain people with loose lips. Have a few "school moms" whom I wouldn't trust with the info. Also won't be telling the children as I have two pre teen daughters and whilst I want to model good habits and a good relationship with food, I don't want to complicate things by having the explain WLI to them. I just want them to see me having a happy and healthy relationship with food.

MsRicoletti · 11/05/2025 18:20

@TeatimeForTheSoul I am not drinking the gallons of coffee I used to drink as 2 cups satisfies me now. I’m not sure what bathroom activities you are referring to .. re peeing, I pee’s every half an hour for first few weeks and this has massively settled now. If it’s more poo related I’m still at the other end of that spectrum, still battling constipation. No amount of coffee is having an effect.
@Brunocatmon I’m keeping everything crossed for you for an easier time this jab.

re electrolytes, both the ones I’ve used recommended 2 doses daily… is there a dosage on the tub/packet? I take at least one daily and am far from any laxative effect!!!

Re the electrolytes, that's reassuring because I like them to add to make my water more interesting for one thing.

Thank you for the thoughts.

Scousebloke · 11/05/2025 18:33

@Brunocatmon really hope the jab does not make you ill this time. Good luck.

Fingers firmly crossed for you @Brunocatmon

TeatimeForTheSoul · 11/05/2025 19:26

Sorry for being so obscure @Brunocatmon, I was going for discreet and got unintelligible😁
As soon as I sip my coffee, basically there’s bowel movement. Serious bowel movement 😂 Think this accounts for my weight loss so far.
When I was pregnant I used glycerin suppositories for constipation. Have you tried them?

PoisonIvy89 · 11/05/2025 19:29

I'm also drinking much less coffee than before and have had to reduce the amount of sweetener

@Brunocatmon keeping everything crossed for you! for constipation I've just started taking magnesium as it's supposed to help. It hasn't yet but it's only been a couple of days. I've never had laxative effects from electrolytes.

@Crunchymum sorry to hear you're feeling miserable, hope it starts to work for you

Chunkysewist · 11/05/2025 19:42

My suppression seems to be back on W3d6 so there's hope it can come back.

Psyllium husk is working great for constipation for me, gross to drink though!

I've gone off coffee too, I struggle to have 2 cups a day whereas I would usually have 4 or 5.

catchingzzzeds · 11/05/2025 19:58

@Brunocatmon I’m keeping everything crossed for you, would you consider doing 30 clicks to administer 1.25? I think some constipation after an upset stomach can be normal? Or do you mean you generally suffer with constipation?
I have senna tablets in for if I need to take them but so far (touch wood) high fibre wholemeal bread, a salad and 2 oranges and a pear every day has kept me regular.
I don’t use electrolytes so can’t really advise there, maybe you can get enough sodium etc through your diet?

catchingzzzeds · 11/05/2025 20:00

@Crunchymum that was me last week but so far this week (day 3) the suppression is back, so all may not be lost 🤞🏼

MsRicoletti · 11/05/2025 20:51

I was rushing about all day today so no time to prepare food. I grabbed a ‘food in a bottle’ and a protein bar from Lidl and ate them.

OMG my stomach hurts!!! And im… shall we say , very bloated with air that keeps… leaving my body 😳😳😳

anyone else got this with either of these products?

I’ve been having protein shakes now and again without these issues.

w3d3. I have just ordered the next month’s pen. I’m now in the overweight category rather than obese so I can’t help feeling a bit twitchy that they might refuse the prescription.

appetite suppression is good so I’m sticking with the 2.5mg. The constipation is a bit of a sod though! I’m going to read vs k through the thread for ideas. I’m drinking plenty and getting in lots of veg, so I think I might need a bit of extra help. Coffee occasionally dies the trick but it isn’t reliable. I’m concerned that if I don’t sort this I’ll end up with a UTI - it’s happened before when I’ve been constipated.

well done on the losses 🥳

A Glycerol suppository (if required) to get things going , then 5 prunes a day and a laxido every few days have been a game changing poop routine for me.

I too have lipoedema. I have heard good things about it and am really hopeful.

So far though, now all the fluid has gone, I'm just even lumpier than I was, albeit noticeably softer and a bit less painful.

Hawkmoth · 11/05/2025 22:08

Thanks to whoever mentioned ChatGPT. I've had it devise me a 6-week exercise programme based on how fat and knackered I am 😁

Which version of psyllium husk do you recommend? Just had a look on Amazon and I’m confused! Capsules or powdered and different strengths!
