Welcome to thread 10 to fellow MN weight loss friends old and new!

Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we’ve successfully navigated Easter and head towards Summer Holiday Season. Stop here to celebrate NSV’s, weight loss milestones and admire our new svelte frames!

I’m on W25 D1 and on my second 7.5mg pen

F in my early 50’s
H 5’ 5.5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 10st 9lbs
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I can)
Total loss so far 44lbs

We recommend the Shotsy app to monitor the amount of MJ in the system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes that might inspire anyone in a food rut, tips for managing side effects, exercise tips, tips for maintenance, titrating up or down and we love a beauty/ style chat too 🥰

I’ve gone off a lot of processed meats which is no bad thing. I’m fussier with ketchup and dressing.
And mostly I’m cured of crisps. Occasionally I’ll crave some salt and vinegar but mostly they no longer appeal as a snack which is so wild to me.

unfortunately I’ve gone off the m&s protein snacks I liked, the cheese clouds and Serrano ham bites.

Arglefraster · 15/05/2025 10:02

star Bread is my nemesis until I dont eat it for 2 or 3 months then it tastes utterly blah like eating cardboard or fabric (this is homemade granary bread!). It currently tastes blah because I haven't been eating it. I feel like MJ has exacerbated my usual tastes so crisps which I normally find greasy but yummy are just too greasy to enjoy, milk chocolate is normally far too sweet & palm oil-y but ooh sugar now only tastes of palm oil 🤢

The only "good" food that I normally love that MJ has put me off is eggs - I just don't particularly enjoy them now.

What is your goal weight @StarShapedWindow? Are you tracking your calories. As we know you won’t lose if you aren’t in a deficit. I think it’s ok to say to your children that you aren’t hungry right now but you will have your flapjack when you are. Modelling healthy eating doesn’t have to be saying yes to everything. And it’s not saying ‘oh I can’t eat a flapjack, they are bad’ but ‘I’m not going to have that right now as I’m not hungry’. As @Mounjaropensaid earlier, often our TDEE is a lot lower than we think and I think I’ve gone my adult life thinking anything under 2000 calories a day was being ‘good’. I don’t think it’s unhealthy for teenagers to be aware of this and to understand that in order to maintain a healthy weight we have to be mindful of our intake.

Thank you, you’re quite right, I should be able to say ‘no, not right now’ and next time I’ll be more forceful. They feel I’m missing out if I don’t join in. They themselves do eat very well and it’s an ongoing worry of mine that they’ll not eat enough because my daughter is training to be a ballerina and my son an actor so they’re both very conscious of what they eat.

I’ve never been able to eat 2000 calories a day - I’m 5’3 and have a small frame so my TDEE is low. I can’t remember it but I’ll check again - thanks 😊

Yes, but sadly not with bread. I’ve really gone off mayonnaise. It just tastes claggy and artificial. I should maybe have another go at making it myself, but my only attempt at it a few years ago was a miserable failure.

9.1 is a brilliant weight to be, though! You should be really proud of that!

I’m still 9.11 and my BMI is 25. I need to just edge a tiny bit further down - half a pound would probably do it - to get into 24.9 territory.

Homemade mayonnaise is so different from Heinz/Hellmans etc, I made it twice - the recipe created a large batch and it seemed like a lot of bother (and oil!). I added too much lemon the first time and no one would eat it!

I am really happy with 9.1 but I’ve got a lot of fat still on my back which I hate and also my stomach. I’m not by any means thin looking - just look quite a healthy weight.

I expect that 1/2 pound will come off very soon - will you then do a maintenance plan or just come off slowly?

StarShapedWindow · 15/05/2025 11:07

@Arglefraster @jay55 it’s turned you both off of foods that are quite fatty, salty and/or oily - I wonder if it’s because they’re quite rich and your body knows it won’t mix well with MJ or if you’ve been eating so much better that your body just doesn’t crave them anymore? I loved the M&S antipasti type foods and used to treat myself to a few different ones for lunch sometimes - can’t stomach them now - I think it’s the oil

Invisablepanic · 15/05/2025 11:27

I've gone off chocolate. Tbh I've felt for a couple of years most chocolate tastes crap (apart from Lindt) but I was still eating it, since I started MJ I've barely had any. Just a bit of Lindt on mother's day, I wasn't even tempted by the kids Easter eggs! I've also cut way down on cereal, I was probably having it a couple of times a day and now it's about once a fortnight.

That’s a BMI of 22.5 so you are objectively slim. Do you want to lose more weight or tone up areas you are less happy with? My BMR is so low now - around 1180 and even on MJ I can eat above that. So I know finding a maintenance calorie amount is going to be a bit of trial and error.

I was saying in the maintenance thread earlier that I think my brain needs time to adjust to my new size too. I keep buying a size larger bottoms and then being surprised when they are too big. It’s like I just can’t accept my actual size yet. Do you think there could be an element of that at play?

lovealongbath · 15/05/2025 12:31

Well done getting to maintenance! I don’t know if there’s an element of acceptance about my size at play, I don’t think so. I just wanted to loose the fat on my back before giving up. You might be right about it being more a case of needing exercise to tone but I’ll give it a few more weeks until my current pen runs out and see.

StarShapedWindow · 15/05/2025 14:06

@lovealongbath that’s an incredible amount of steps! Can’t believe how well you’re doing by sticking the 2.5mg - amazing 🎉

SerenePeer · 15/05/2025 15:38

Whattodowithaminute · 15/05/2025 06:43

I had my maintenance appointment with Oushk this week, helpful, pragmatic and approved for the flexi plan. Advice was to restart on 2.5mg if > 4 weeks since last dose. I started the Zoe programme this week so monitoring glucose responses to different foods this week, will leave next injection for a couple of weeks whilst I’m doing the glucose monitoring then do a pen in June to get back under 70kg (currently hovering at about 70.5, was 68 at lowest)

Oh that's great to hear! Very reassuring they've been sensible.

Fingers crossed for you! Hope all goes well!

Day 3 on 10mg, side effects no worse than 7.5, and I feel like they’re settling down, no food noise, high suppression, scales down almost a kg.

Had salad in the sunshine at lunch with work colleagues and could barely eat any of it.

Glad I’m not the only one Renpho thinks is much older than reality.

Best of luck to those stalled/at a set point, it really is frustrating. I’m keeping all crossed mine is over for a while after 2 days losing in a row.

I found that my metabolic age met my actual age as soon as I was in a healthy BMI. No idea if that will work for you but here's hoping. I agree it is a downer tho!

I’m stuck at 9.1 stone. It’s been ages and the scales won’t move. I was trying to be very good yesterday sticking to soups and protein/veg but my DD had made a berry crumble in Food Tech and I felt bad not eating any and then my whole family wanted me to make flapjacks, so I did and then they insisted I ate one with them, so in order not to make my teenagers feel a flapjack is bad I ate one - very annoying because I really didn’t want or need it.

Has anyone found their tastes have changed? I used to love bread but I’ve gone off it - not sure if it MJ or just a change in taste due to not eating it for so long

I've found I no longer want to snack on nuts. I used to love a bowl of shelled pistachios, now they make me feel ill. So weird.

I agree with this - my BMR is waaaay lower than I had ever realised. It is so easy to be going over that level still thinking that you have been 'good'. Mine is 1340ish at the moment. Even if I add on exercise for the day (realistically whatever the treadmill says it is only really around 350 extra) is still means I need to eat 1650-1700 to only stand still. I need to create a deficit across the week of 3,500 just to lose 1lb so 7,000 to lose 2lbs. Have a look at your macros and be honest with the total calorie intake (easy to forget the hidden calories in a 'bit' of crumble or one flapjack on top of your day's food.

Cereal is an absolute calorie killer so cutting that out will make a massive difference to your macros and daily intake.

I'm also surprised by my lack of interest in Easter Eggs - I am back to my childhood self of only having treats like chocolate once a week.

That sounds brilliant - how long to they recommend you stay on 2.5 - or is it a permanent thing?

I did the Zoe programme and found it so interesting. I was pretty steady but my friends DH got the most enormous spikes when he ate potatoes which he’d never have known if not for Zoe.

I’m not on anything currently, the flexi plan allows me to go back on the 2.5 as and when I want to, no questions asked, I pay a £15 a month retainer which feels like a good insurance arrangement for now to see how I settle/manage/maintain going forwards
