I will be starting Mounjaro at the end of this week. The current April thread are mostly discussing the move onto their second 4 weeks so thought I would start a thread for those of us right at the beginning.

Oh yoghurt is a good idea. I’ve got some nice thick Greek yoghurt. I’ll try and get a few spoons down. I can’t do a first day of period with no pain killers, not if I have to go to work and stand up and talk to people and be pleasant 😵‍💫

Yes, know the feeling, im on the train to work now but usually drive. Mine is a quiet office place which suits me 🤣Im going to get some nuts and avocados today.
Who do you have to talk to at work? I had half a paracetamol and codeine ( 15mg)

Hi everyone 👋
First time Mumsnetter here. Very pleased to have found so much support and advice on here.
I decided to start MJ after my weight slowly crept up over the years (especially since perimenopause). I feel guilty about spending so much money on my weight loss, but as my partner pointed out, being overweight has had a shocking impact on my confidence and self esteem, making me miserable. Plus, I'm concerned about the potential of diabetes, joint pain and early onset Alzheimer's (which my mum died of).
I did my first jab yesterday morning and started feeling some effects within an hour or two. Nothing major - just some slight nausea. I had a normal sized dinner and then felt quite nauseous afterwards. So I guess it's better to adjust to smaller portion sizes to help prevent this?
I've also woken up with a bit of a headache - I think it's related to dehydration, so I'm going to try to keep sipping water regularly throughout the day. If you're eating less, you're also consuming less water so it stands to reason.

Anyway, good luck everyone! Here's to a healthier, happier future 💪

Welcome! How you feeling today?

I joined another group on here but I think this one is more appropriate, as a beginner.
Ordered today and awaiting 'approval'.
Post menopause and pre-diabetic.
I honestly thought I'd never go down this route but am so fed up. I'm not enjoying life. I haven't got a great deal of weight to lose but given my age and health, I need to do it.
Interesting what some pp's said about drinking alcohol and vaping, which I do too much of. I remember years ago I took pills to stop smoking and it was weird how it worked, totally didn't fancy it. Hoping M works the same way.

I did wake up with a craving this morning for a vape but a nicotine gum quickly took it away. Im not having any at all all day at work. Might feel like a gum when i get home though .

Its quite bizzare. I kind of knew today that i would avoid my usual downfalls. I usually eat about 4 slices of bread a day, ive had none since my first jab on Saturday night. I used to eat cakes a couple of times a week which ive managed to quit but i still sometimes feel tempted (and now and again cave), not even thought about it or biscuits or chocolate.
I had porridge for breakfast and a subway salad for tea. Had a small chicken breast later on as my wife insisted i needed to eat.

Good to know your wife is looking after you. I started the day after you and can’t even look at bread either.

I was doing the stalking of the Royal Mail delivery guy on Sunday, put a note on the front door, window and left gate open so i couldn’t miss it. It’s exciting isn’t it. Everyone is different re side effects. I had a powerful reaction so might take a little less next time. Feeling fine now though

Stalking my door too. Hoping that today will be day 1! 👽

Catherhino · 23/04/2025 08:04

I’m going to do mine in the morning because I’m wfh so I’ll be able to take my time to get it right, and also better manage any potential side effects. I’m going out for lunch on Friday so I’m wondering how I’ll feel? And what to choose instead of my usual “something and chips”!

Hawkmoth · 23/04/2025 08:30

Had my first injection last night.

SW 130kg
GW 65kg

I've set myself some short, medium and long term goals which I hope will keep me on track, like: fitting into a certain pair of trousers more comfortably at an event next month; knee high boots by Christmas; not having a knee replacement when I'm older.😐

Love your long term goal about not needing a knee replacement!! That should be my goal too. I already have cortisone injections for osteoarthritis so it’s probably inevitable but delaying it as long as possible would be amazing.
Short term goals for me is there’s a dress I love but haven’t been able to wear for a couple of years - to get back into that for summer would be fantastic!

I nearly hugged my postie when mine arrived 🤣

Chunkysewist · 23/04/2025 09:42

One of my goals is to fit into some dungarees I made that are XL I'm currently pushing my luck with XXL. Plus I want to make a funky dress for a show I'm seeing mid May.
MJ should be here 3.30-4.30!
Im going for a walk with my mum in a bit, I feel guilty as I'm keeping the MJ from her as she is vehemently against weight loss jabs, I hate having to be secretive with people. At least I can chat freely on here 😊 Any of you keeping the MJ quiet as well? Only my husband knows at the moment.

Chunkysewist · 23/04/2025 09:45

Plus my GP surgery were really awful when I asked for advice on MJ. I had this message saying basically that their stance is they will not offer advice, support, guidance, aftercare or monitoring for privately purchased weight loss jabs. Seemed harsh as I know others who get support from their GP. I don't qualify for help on the NHS despite being obese. I'm just trying to help fix myself 🤷

Sallycinnamum · 23/04/2025 10:03

Mine has just arrived so I've stashed it at the back of the fridge as I don't want the kids to know I'm on the jab. Just need to pluck up the courage to use it now!

I've told my DH I'm doing it but he's a bit on the fence about it. He's super fit and loses weight easily and thinks it's the same for everyone!

Chunkysewist · 23/04/2025 10:05

I'm going to use mine straight away I think. It doesn't have to be stored in the fridge once you've started it, is that right? I have teenagers so I could just put it amongst the vegetables, they never look there 😂

ymemanresu · 23/04/2025 10:06

@Chunkysewist how rude of them 😡
@Sallycinnamummy ex was like that, no food noise, so annoying

It was really rude and I was quite surprised tbh. Hurt my feelings a bit. I just wanted to be safe doing this 🤷

I have only told dh and dd (who is currently home from uni for easter and was wondering what was in that big delivery I pounced on....)

I'm only telling my partner as well. Unfortunately, there seems to be lots of gossip and judgement around the use of these drugs and I really don't want to become subject to that.

Yes me too. Hopefully we can support each other on here but medical knowledge is best. I know a nurse.
Only told husband and best friend.

PeachSnail · 23/04/2025 11:15

I think someone on another thread recommended this Mel Robbins podcast episode... So I thought I'd share it here. I just listened and there's lots of super useful information about how these drugs work and how to use them most effectively. There's a also a refreshingly compassionate and non-judgemental tone. I'd recommend giving it a listen!

I’m listening to this right now. Really interesting!

still waiting for juniper to approve my photos.

MsRicoletti · 23/04/2025 11:20

I’ve only told my wife (‘OK babe, whatever you want to do’ ) and a close friend (‘ooh tell me how it goes , I’m exited for you’) .

I’m not telling my mam , sister etc as I think they will worry and judge me.

might tell work friends at some point.

Im really glad to have this space to chat about it and share this journey x

I love your dungaree goal!!

in a few weeks (when I’ve hopefully shed some weight and can face it) I’m going to try on all my clothes and decide what I might realistically fit into again in the next few months.

I’ve got a holiday booked in August (with my soon to be 18 year old son) so I might treat myself to a few new outfits for this trip. I love clothes and shopping, and haven’t bought nice clothes for ages (other than begrudgingly buying big sweatshirts to hide in).

feeling good in clothes I like is a goal for me rather than a specific weight to get to, I think.

lastditchattempt50 · 23/04/2025 11:32

can I join please? I ordered mounjaro last night (waiting for IQ doctor to review my selfies before it is approved) so hoping I can start next week if it arrives in time.

Will go back and read the thread for starting tips....

SW 14.5
GW not sure yet, but I'd love to get to 12 stone -

Chunkysewist · 23/04/2025 11:32

I'll check out that podcast next week when I'm on my own, kids will be back at school and I can relax. Is it only on Spotify?
Well good news is I no longer feel guilty lying to my mum. As soon as she saw me I clocked her looking me up and down. Then we popped in coop and I said "ooh look aero cookies" and mum said flatly "you don't need them". I didn't really want them but played devil's advocate anyway (guess I like torturing myself 🙄) and pointed out she had a pack of custard doughnuts in the basket and then she said "look at me and look at you, yeah?" so F it, she wants me slim then this is how I'm going to do it. I did kinda feel like crying in coop though but laughed it off. Gotta be the fat jolly one. I didn't realise I looked THAT bad 😔
