I will be starting Mounjaro at the end of this week. The current April thread are mostly discussing the move onto their second 4 weeks so thought I would start a thread for those of us right at the beginning.

I love your dungaree goal!!

in a few weeks (when I’ve hopefully shed some weight and can face it) I’m going to try on all my clothes and decide what I might realistically fit into again in the next few months.

I’ve got a holiday booked in August (with my soon to be 18 year old son) so I might treat myself to a few new outfits for this trip. I love clothes and shopping, and haven’t bought nice clothes for ages (other than begrudgingly buying big sweatshirts to hide in).

feeling good in clothes I like is a goal for me rather than a specific weight to get to, I think.

I've not done nice clothes shopping in ages. I have a habit of buying 'goal outfits' and never fitting in them so I have a wardrobe of clothes that don't fit 😒 I am currently wearing the same 3 outfits on rotation.
I'm away in July for a week, I'd love to feel good about myself by then. We can do it 💪

I think someone on another thread recommended this Mel Robbins podcast episode... So I thought I'd share it here. I just listened and there's lots of super useful information about how these drugs work and how to use them most effectively. There's a also a refreshingly compassionate and non-judgemental tone. I'd recommend giving it a listen!

I will give this a listen tonight. Thanks Peachy

Plus my GP surgery were really awful when I asked for advice on MJ. I had this message saying basically that their stance is they will not offer advice, support, guidance, aftercare or monitoring for privately purchased weight loss jabs. Seemed harsh as I know others who get support from their GP. I don't qualify for help on the NHS despite being obese. I'm just trying to help fix myself 🤷

Terrible attitude from your gp surgery.

I'll check out that podcast next week when I'm on my own, kids will be back at school and I can relax. Is it only on Spotify?
Well good news is I no longer feel guilty lying to my mum. As soon as she saw me I clocked her looking me up and down. Then we popped in coop and I said "ooh look aero cookies" and mum said flatly "you don't need them". I didn't really want them but played devil's advocate anyway (guess I like torturing myself 🙄) and pointed out she had a pack of custard doughnuts in the basket and then she said "look at me and look at you, yeah?" so F it, she wants me slim then this is how I'm going to do it. I did kinda feel like crying in coop though but laughed it off. Gotta be the fat jolly one. I didn't realise I looked THAT bad 😔

I’m so sorry you had that experience with your mam in the coop.

I feel like there is so much judging and body shaming that goes on and it’s just normal that people comment on what others are eating/wearing/look like. I hate it!

im so careful about how I talk about my own body and appearance in front of my kids… as I was raised in an environment of ‘diet culture’ and constant devaluing of bigger bodies. not great for the self esteem and clearly hasn’t prevented me from becoming overweight!!!

Im not telling my mam I’m on MJ because she will freak out and tell me ‘just to do what I do.. eat less!’ 🤨

Chunkysewist · 23/04/2025 13:58

Thanks @MsRicoletti thats exactly what my mum would say too. She isn't a comfort eater though and has never experienced 'food noise' so she doesn't understand. But she lost weight "the right way" and so should everyone else. I guess I should be grateful that she didn't rub my stomach like she did to my brother 😤
I'm the same with my children, neither has a weight issue and I hope that's due to being raised in a healthy environment.
I was pretty much bullied by my dad for my weight as a kid, called names etc. He's blind now so I don't have to worry what I look like to him anymore!

TheNinthLock · 23/04/2025 14:01

Chunky, your mum sounds like my mum. Naturally slim all her life but she sees that as a virtue rather than luck. (and she is mightily embarrassed by having an obese dd!)
I am nervous about telling my GP as I anticipate a similar response to the one you received. Even though at every appointment I have they tell me I am obese and that I need to sort it....

Chunkysewist · 23/04/2025 14:15

@TheNinthLock I'm sorry your mum is similar 😢 it's so hard. I really hope the MJ works for us.

I'm totally baffled by my gp response. They can't give me MJ on prescription but why can't they help keep me safe while I pay for it myself? It's an approved medication, not some snake oil I found 🤷 I really wanted their advice on it. I really hope your GP is better about it.

frogswimming · 23/04/2025 14:32

Hi everyone! I just took my first dose. I didn’t read much abut side effects or timing and I did ivf so I’ve injected myself before. So I just did it as soon as I collected it from the pharmacist. I’m going away for a night with dh and kids tomorrow night to a nice hotel. Maybe I should have planned it better! I didn’t feel it at all, I was worried I’d done it wrong and it hadn’t gone in, but then I bled a little so it must have. I’m not telling anyone either. I haven’t even told dh, but I think I should? I haven’t even some family events and a holiday coming up so I hope it works. I’m 49, sw 13 stone 13 pounds in clothes/13 stone 9 pounds without, 5 foot 5, gw 11 stone. When should I expect side effects or anything else to start happening?

Mounraine · 23/04/2025 14:52

@frogswimming first jab it took four days for side effects to appear (projectile vomiting for 24 hours - horrendous). Then I took a break and two smaller doses. The side effects of those have been minimal and started the next day, lasting a day or two.

I have told nobody but DP.

ymemanresu · 23/04/2025 15:26

anyone get this today?

Med Express banning sharing codes?

Chunkysewist · 23/04/2025 15:51

Argh done the jab, first needle didn't work when priming and now I can't get this needle off?! Help?

Are you twisting and pulling to remove it?

Chunkysewist · 23/04/2025 15:56

Yeah the cap isn't gripping the needle bit? The faulty one came off fine though.

SilenceInside · 23/04/2025 15:58

If you have spare needles, you could try using a cap from one of those and binning the open needle. Or you could try using pliers very gently to get a grip on the cap and needle to turn and pull.

Chunkysewist · 23/04/2025 15:58

Ok panic over, I used some small medical pliars and twisted it off. I didn't get a sharps bin or swabs with my delivery?
Jab went well though, I was very brave. Now bring on the weight loss....am I thin yet? 😂

Btowngirl · 23/04/2025 16:23

Hello hope it’s ok to join! Did my first jab on Monday morning, contrary to most advice to do it in the evening. Rationale was no backing out now or making excuses that I had had a big dinner which is also meant to be a no go before doing it. So far no side effects other than a bit of heartburn 🎉

Crunchymum · 23/04/2025 16:44

Hello all,

After having absolutely zero success with Wegovy I have just hit the 5 week mark since my last dose so am able to now move to MJ! Have signed up with Simple Online and sent everything over this afternoon so fingers crossed.

I really, really need this. 5 weeks since stopping Wegovy and 5lbs on (been eating like a beast though!)

Going to spend the next few days upping my water intake, getting my mind in the right place and dumping all the crap food.

Any other advice for a newbie appreciated 😀

Mounraine · 23/04/2025 16:48

(I've struggled to get the needle off too @Chunkysewist).

I am SO glad to read that about Med Express. The spamming of codes and general desperate "hun-ness" of it all was really annoying me.

Chunkysewist · 23/04/2025 16:53

Welcome @Btowngirl and @Crunchymum

@Mounraine glad it wasn't just me! I was getting panicky as liquid seemed to keep coming out.

It's not even been an hour and I've already convinced myself I'm dying....twice. Wish I could just relax!

CosmicRed · 23/04/2025 16:54

I agree @Mounraine I was surprised they got away with it for so long.

Sorry your GP hasn’t been supportive @Chunkysewist thats really poor, especially considering it will be available for GPs to prescribe in primary care from June to select groups of people.

You need to keep busy! I was a bit paranoid at first haha. It’s been quite subtle though, still feeling slight hunger but completely in control of it. Magic!

Chunkysewist · 23/04/2025 16:57

Thanks @CosmicRed at least I have this group 😊
@Btowngirl you're right I need to go do something! I think I've read to many scare stories and it's made me paranoid 🙈

MsRicoletti · 23/04/2025 17:13

Musings on early days…

since a few hours after my first dose yesterday I’ve been FREEZING!

I forced a yoghurt down this morning and have been sipping water all day…But I’m not even slightly hungry yet?!!!

it’s crazy as I’m on the first day of my period and it’s usually ‘lock up your fridges’ time around me. I haven’t thought about crisps once.. who am I?!

I’ve been burping a lot … awkward.

feel a bit floaty… could be the pain killers I’m taking for period pain.

feel tired.. but I usually do tbh.

all in all I’m feeling ok and fairly optimistic!

im now off to convince myself to eat some dinner.
