I will be starting Mounjaro at the end of this week. The current April thread are mostly discussing the move onto their second 4 weeks so thought I would start a thread for those of us right at the beginning.

My suppression is gone, so been doing more reading about the dose and half life. The concentration of MJ in our blood halves after 5 days but then take another 5 days to half again and on and on. Which means as we go through the months the residual amounts in our system are significant. That’s why this is a loading dose. Days 6-7 of week 1 is the lowest % it will ever be after starting on it if you stick to the schedule with no gaps. This graph is helpful it shows the concentration month by month for a person who goes up a level each month. You can see that a couple of months in even at the end of the week just before injecting you are really quite high compared to the start of a week in month 1. Eg when we first inject 5 it will actually be a lot more than that in our systems due to previous doses.

So I am using this to remind me to use my willpower for another 2 days and then repeat. And to remind all of us even if some of us felt much more suppression on the low dose everyone responds differently and we all need to be patient and consult our providers to work out the optimum personal therapeutic dose. It could be 2.5 or 15! Even for me I can’t know it’s not 2.5 as later in the month it won’t drop as low as this at any point.

This is so helpful, thank you for sharing this.

it makes perfect sense the way you have explained it xx

wlinewbie0425 · 28/04/2025 18:10

Also welcome to the new arrivals! No pressure to share weight or losses - if you want to ask questions or even just lurk everyone is welcome. I am blown away by the number of us all starting within a week or so and the amazing support so far thank you all 🙂

@MsRicoletti I found a Google sheet someone made that you can input your own dates and doses into - need to get onto my personal lap top to try it (no way I am opening anything to do with this on my work one!) if it’s useful I will share here later. I think it will help for those who dose a day early or 3.75 etc to keep track of total level of meds at any given time in their system to highlight good and bad effects at each actual concentration. It’s not just about what the last pen should you took was - it’s cumulative.

Just wondering if anyone who got it on the NHS is wiling to share how they went about it? I didn't even ask as assummed I wouldn't qualify and if I did it would a long process. Sw was 95.5kg and I'm 5'3 giving me a BMI of around 37. I have medicated hypertension and non medicated high cholesterol as well as chronic joint pain but I'm not diabetic or pre diabetic.

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in March. I have a severe lung condition and my BMI is 40-something. My specialist respiratory nurse suggested I ask the diabetes nurse at the surgery, and in my appointment summary wrote as much. I got a telephone appointment with the diabetes nurse, told her what the resp. nurse had said, and asked if I'd be a suitable candidate. She said 'I won't beat about the bush, yes you are. Do you want to get started?'
If you meet the criteria, it should be straightforward, but they are very strict criteria. It also depends on whether your ICB is currently funding it, which mine luckily is.

It’s still pretty hard to get it on the NHS if you don’t have diabetes… This changes in June though as from then it is available for weight loss through the GP. Not 100% sure how it’s going to be rolled out yet but BMI over 40 and a medical condition that loosing weight would help with will be higher priority.

SkibidiSigma · 28/04/2025 19:02

Thanks @Hearditonapodcast and @Banana34 Just looked on our ICB website and there is a warning not to contact your GP to ask for the drug, and it will only be available initially to patients already under tier 3 weight management service, so yeah as I thought I wouldn't qualify anyway. One of my reasons for doing this is to try and prevent type 2 diabetes as my dad has it, as did his mum.

Well I'll just carry on and hope I don't bankrupt myself 😂 Decided my health has to come first.

I'm generally a tired person too, I have anemia and I don't sleep very well, like you my legs are tired after a walk today but I feel happy, not mentally worn out like usual 😊

It's a nice feeling, isn't it? 😊

Sunshineandpool · 28/04/2025 19:18

Hearditonapodcast · 28/04/2025 17:30

@Banana34 @Sunshineandpool I have around 9 stone to lose. Currently hovering between 18 stone 12 and 19 stone. I'm 5'6. I've also been prescribed them on the NHS, my first jab is tomorrow afternoon!

Any suggestions for a Last Supper? I vaguely remember someone saying not to go too heavy on dinner the night before your injection.

My starting weight was 19st2 at 5'3.

Last Supper - I'd just have something you really like but don't go mad!

Hi All

I literally just took my first injection. So nervous. I really hope this works!
Stats:
Weight 12 st 11lbs
Height-5ft 5

Anyone with similar stats?

I have a really hectic family life with 3 LO-6, 3 and 1.5 years. we are forever running between after schools activities. I have a busy job which takes over my lift. I am just torn between work and kiddies. No time for managing my own weight. I have lost all confidence in myself. I have tried every diet going and really just want to become more happy in myself. I want to be able to run after my LO's without feeling like I am going to pass out.

I see others commenting that they think the 2.5 dose has done nothing? Whereas others seem to be working almost immediately. Any tips to avoiding the tiredness or nausea?

A

Hi @AislingIrish

Some of us have actually found we have more energy not less so fingers crossed for you.

I think you have to remember 2.5ml is just a starter dose and not the therapeutic dose. So if it does nothing it doesn't mean it won't work at a higher dose.

MsSampson · 28/04/2025 19:48

It's really interesting about the half life. I'm on W1D6 and the effects are waning fast! But it's nice to know I only have to rely on willpower for one more day, and then interesting about it building up in your system. It makes sense I guess.
I would say I have mainly found the effects to be making me feel fuller quicker and for longer. I've still had some food noise going on, although maybe not as much as before. And I've definitely still fancied unhealthy things. I had a Gail's cinnamon bun on Sunday, but then just didn't eat at all until dinner. Curious to see if this changes as the dose builds up.

I’m 5 ft 6 and started on Sunday, sw was 13 4 so not too far off you.
I’ve been ok energy wise, went to a weights class today then nana napped for 20 minutes afterwards but that’s not too unusual 🤣 I’ve had no appetite at all, but I’ve eaten 3 meals and tried to keep high protein. Luckily had no nausea so far.

Can I ask which you are using please?

I'm using Juniper.

Sunshineandpool · 28/04/2025 20:03

W1D3 - my appetite is definitely less suppressed tonight. I was able to tuck into my dinner more. Still had a smaller portion than usual.

I’m juniper too! Have you been in contact with your health coach?

Re the weighing conversation I’m, perhaps controversially, a daily weigh-er.

Me too. I take a weekly average because so much can affect the number on the scales. I just find taking a weekly snapshot can get me down if it doesn't say what I want it to.
I'm also going to calorie count, about 1800 per day, as much to make sure I'm getting the right amounts of fibre and protein as making sure I'm in a deficit.

My order has been dispatched 🎉

My GP said they couldn't refer me to NHS weight management as although I have a BMI of 46 I don't have either hypertension, diabetes, or sleep apnoea. Something else too. It's annoying as my weight gain has come from medication I have to take for my mental health and I have been begging for help for 4 years. I have literally more than doubled my weight in the 4.5 years I have taken them. I've seen a health coach, taken orlistat, seen a dietician, taken metformin, saw another health coach, saw another dietician and now they want me to go to a weight loss and exercise group. The GP says it is all good evidence to show nothing is working and hopefully eventually they can refer me to a weight loss specialist.

I actually do wonder if I have sleep apnoea as I snore terribly and I just got a smart watch and it is telling me my oxygen sats are going down to the mid 80s in the night.

Nearlyhadenough · 28/04/2025 21:10

Did my first jab this evening! There really was nothing to worry about.

I’m now imagining that I’ve got most of the side effects that I’ve read about….but I’m sure it’s all in my mind.

SW 90.5kg
5’7”
GW undecided.

TheSilentSister · 28/04/2025 21:25

Has anyone had hallucinations? I've had 2 today. First one I saw my cat run under the bed. He can't run under the bed as it's too low. I looked, not there.
Out for a walk this evening with my DS and as bizarre as it sounds, I thought I saw a crab run towards me and let out a tiny scream. It was a leaf sticking out from a bush! FGS.
I'm W1D4.
Joints don't seem to be aching as much as normal. Not eating much, no food noise. A tad constipated.

Welcome to all the new posters taking their 1st dose this week.

AbundanceofKatherines · 28/04/2025 21:47

I’m with Juniper too 🙂

W1D5 and appetite is back with a vengeance! I have spent a lot of today very hungry. However, the reduction in food noise has made it easier to push through the hunger and make better choices.

Roll on jab day!

I'm sorry the crab did make me laugh a little!

I just googled and hallucinations don't seem common. Maybe speak to your prescriber.

Hi Juniper Buddy!

My health coach was assigned on Friday. I sent her a message on Saturday to say I'd taken my first dose. She replied today asking how I was feeling. I replied but heard nothing more today. Have you spoken to yours?

Brunocatmon · 28/04/2025 22:07

OK I've done my first jab. Eek.

Hi Juniper Buddy!

That's interesting that with the increased hunger you still have reduced food noise.

For me I get really bad food noise after I take my medication at night. It has still been there since the jab but quieter and easier to ignore.
