I will be starting Mounjaro at the end of this week. The current April thread are mostly discussing the move onto their second 4 weeks so thought I would start a thread for those of us right at the beginning.

Morning all, this thread is moving fast!⚡
Just taken my first jab, fingers crossed for great food suppression but no horrible side effects 😁🤞

My stomach feels a bit weird but I've literally just jabbed so I know that's psychosomatic....

I was planning greek yogurt and berries etc as a good lunch, but reading up thread that dairy is sometimes not great?
Any advice 😁

I think best to try dairy for yourself. I've not had any issues with dairy. I'm having whole milk with my granola, milky coffees, in my Protein shake and eating protein yogurts. I've not felt sick with any of those 😊

Chunkysewist · 28/04/2025 10:35

@SparklyGlitterballs well done on the loss 🎉

Chunkysewist · 28/04/2025 10:37

Also yes, I've had new scales weigh differently to my old ones. It can be disheartening but you still lost that 4lb ❤️

YippeeAbsentmindedly · 28/04/2025 10:54

I weigh on my at home scales and the gym scales. I just record them in different places so I can properly see losses as they're never consistent 😁

I started injecting last Monday evening and have been counting Tuesday as D1, but have done today's injection 7 hours early. I'm absolutely starving, and while I haven't had much appetite suppression to speak of for the last week, I'm having to use more will power today than I have until now.

So, a week in I eagerly jump on the scales and have lost... 0.9lb. No, that's not a typo, I have lost less than a pound. This is absolutely typical for me. I have been calorie counting and have been between 1000-1200 calories every day except Saturday (and even then I only had 2000).

I've also started my period 3 days early (which is probably why I'm starving and haven't lost much!). I've read on other threads that MJ can affect menstruation. Last month was unusually bad for me in terms of cramps/heaviness. This one snuck up on me with no symptoms other than a massive spot on my face!

Anyway:
SW 12'7
W1 12'6.1 - 0.9lb
GW 10'4

@SparklyGlitterballs hope you're feeling better about your 4lb now! 😁

I absolutely think MJ affects menstrual cycle. I got my period late after starting MJ last week, and it was all over the place, stopping and starting.

Im always starving and gain weight when im on my period.

You still lost a little bit though, which is a win 🥇

Don’t be disheartened, maybe you are one of the people where it takes a few weeks for the appetite suppression and fat burning to properly kick in. I’m rooting you this week ❤️

Happy weigh day, well done that’s really exiting 🥳 I hope to be joining you in the weigh day celebration party tomorrow x

Thank you! And fingers crossed for tomorrow 😍I was so afraid of my scales for so long and now I'm having to stop myself obsessively checking every time I'm near them.

OMG I’ve put mine in the cupboard to hide them away from me 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I really want to avoid being obsessive about the number on the scale, so I’m committed to jumping on the scales one per week max!!

fingers crossed I’ve managed a loss tomorrow. I do feel less bloated and my jeans aren’t digging in as much so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Undecided2025 · 28/04/2025 11:29

So I injected yesterday at around midday and could hear my stomach rumbling around 6ish but with no urge to eat. I’ve woken this morning with an achy neck, jaw and upper back. I did do a cardio combat class on Friday but it feels a bit late for that ache. I’ve also got a bit of a husky throat, not quite hoarse. Having a mild panic 😬🤪

The day after my 1st jab I had a feeling in my jaw and back of neck (hairline) but it wasn't a pain as such, more tender if I pressed on it. I did have upper back ache too but I actually put that down to the day before gym session ( may not have been though).
It had gone the following day, so all was well.
Hopefully be the same for you!

BonnieClydeSW15 · 28/04/2025 12:10

@Catherhino you and I both started Thurs morning so we can compare experiences!!
@SparklyGlitterballsi don’t have any scales!!! I’m so scared I’ll use them everyday and psych myself out but now starting to wonder if I should buy some! 🙈

Yorkshiregirl10 · 28/04/2025 12:23

I'm planning on taking my first dose this evening. Slightly nervous, probably have to jab myself without looking 😂 I know everyone says you can feel it but still.

SW is 87.6kg 😬 aiming to loose 20kg 🤞🏻

I'm already quite active and eat reasonably healthily until the evening when I will eat everything on sight regardless of whether I'm hungry, plus I drink too much so really hoping I can stop the snacking!

Also haven't told anyone - I've seen a lot of posts saying the same. MJ came up in conversation with a close friend a few weeks ago, not me saying I was planning to take it. She was very much not positive and now I darent mention it to anyone.

I also had the weird jaw feeling and a sore throat for a couple of days but it's fine now. I injected Thursday evening.

At the moment I still have no appetite and am currently drinking a smoothie which is my first food today. I can eat but it's an effort and I'm not snacking. I've also found I'm eating much slower than usual, really chewing each mouthful, as usually I just gobble everything down. Best thing is still zero wine cravings, it's amazing. To be honest for me it's worth it just for that!

Also just wanted to remind everyone that a lot of pharmacies do cashback via top cashback and likely other cashback sites too. I got £13 cashback on my order with med express.

Well done to those who have lost weight and @YippeeAbsentmindedly don't be disheartened, hopefully will pick up for you next week.

@Sheldon4k thank you, that’s made me feel loads better. I remembered hoarseness was a side effect and panicked ♥️

@SkibidiSigma fab thank you. That’s made me feel better. I had overnight oats this morning and not got the notion for anything else. I’ve been taking an electrolyte drink and offered my collagen and creatine last night. The cashback is good to know. I had a blue light discount but think that was only for my first order.

Chunkysewist · 28/04/2025 12:36

@YippeeAbsentmindedly its great that you had a loss but I understand how you feel. I will be gutted on Friday if I havnt at least lost a few lbs. Hopefully things pick up for you in week 2.

I'm going to jab tomorrow, a day early, as I have Tuesdays to myself so will be able to just chill. Plus for my holiday in May I need to move it to a Monday temporarily and I don't want to jump 2 days early.
Today is day 6 and I still have a similar level of suppression. I'm eating 1300/1450 cals a day at the moment, hitting my Protein goals, no food noise. Just back from a walk with my mum, I was wearing the exact same jeans I had on last time (they've been washed lol) when she was rude to me in coop about my weight and looking me up and down. This time she asked if they were new because they made me look slimmer 🤷 so hopefully I've lost, if not I guess she just said it because she feels guilty about last time 😂

OK, I'm feeling grateful for my 4lbs after all. I can see that 0.9 would be disheartening, especially if you've been calorie counting. Hopefully though, as you say, it's your period affecting things and you'll catch up next week. Strange how the appetite suppression affects us all differently. Maybe you'll find it easier when you move up to 5mg.

YippeeAbsentmindedly · 28/04/2025 13:11

I hope so!

I read that article someone posted up thread with a theory of how the injection works, which was very interesting.

I was a very skinny child, very active and little interest in eating. Once I hit puberty, despite still being active, I put weight on but managed to stay pretty consistent at a size 10-12. I put on over 3st both times I was pregnant, despite not massively increasing what I was eating, which I worked bloody hard to lose. Then suddenly when I hit 38 I put 2 stone on out of nowhere. My weight gain seems to be very much related to hormones. Ideal if you're a cavewoman with no idea where the next meal is coming from. Not so much when Sainsbury's is a 5 minute walk away 🤷

Anyway, I have managed to restrain myself today and only had a salad for my lunch so far, but I think today's count will be more than 1000 calories!

Brunocatmon · 28/04/2025 13:17

Sunshineandpool · 28/04/2025 09:51

What specifically are you nervous about? 😊

I don't know really. Whether I do it right, whether it'll make me feel ill.

YippeeAbsentmindedly · 28/04/2025 13:23

Brunocatmon · 28/04/2025 13:17

I don't know really. Whether I do it right, whether it'll make me feel ill.

The instructions are really clear, it's difficult to do it wrong. Think someone mentioned there are YouTube videos as well.

Can only give you vague, not very helpful platitudes in relation to side effects, sorry. But happy to send you some of those? Lots of people inject at night to reduce side effects while they're awake, which might be worth trying.

Mounraine · 28/04/2025 13:26

Re the weighing conversation I’m, perhaps controversially, a daily weigh-er.

wlinewbie0425 · 28/04/2025 13:27

I can report my hunger is definitely returning. Gradually needing a bit more willpower. Next injection due Wednesday. Sticking to high protein to fill me up.

@YippeeAbsentmindedly we must be weight twins! Exact same experience, skinny kid then puberty gave instant curves and most of adult life upper end of healthy or slightly overweight. My big gain has been post 40 I also think it’s hormones.

I’m having my first dose tonight. I feel pretty lucky in that I’ve been able to get it from my GP due to diabetes and blood pressure.

I have a lot to loose, won’t be posting my weight though!

YippeeAbsentmindedly · 28/04/2025 13:51

Welcome @Banana34, you don't have to post your weight, not everyone does.

I like to see the numbers written down to refer back to.Although I might ignore this week 🙄

Catherhino · 28/04/2025 09:53

I’m on day 5 now, just thought I’d give a little update. I jabbed on Thursday am - it was super easy and I couldn’t feel the needle at all! No side affects so far, yey! I’ve not had any real suppression though; I’ve been moderately hungry at my usual meal times (not starving!) and tried to eat healthily, but that’s not always possible due to life happening 😂 - perfectly normal. I’ve not felt inclined to snack which is good, but sometimes I’ve allowed myself a treat because I was bought loads of Easter chocolate. The good news is I stopped after a small amount and didn’t scoff loads, so I’m happy with that, we all want to enjoy a treat now and then but without going OTT! I’ve been tracking my calories out of interest rather than sticking rigidly to a limit. Thursday and Friday I had between 1700 and 1800, and weekend days around 2000. On that, I’d normally lose weight reeeeaaally slowly, like 0.5 - 1lb per week, which is good but frustrating and I usually give up after a month or so of that, so not enough to make any real difference to my weight. I had a cheeky weigh in this morning and so far I’ve lost 2.8lb which I’m shocked about, as I don’t feel any different to how I feel on a normal calorie counting diet! Will see my weekly weigh in on Thursday am.
SW: 193.6
CW:190.8
GW: 160

That's all sounding really positive.

Sunshineandpool · 28/04/2025 15:04

Brunocatmon · 28/04/2025 13:17

I don't know really. Whether I do it right, whether it'll make me feel ill.

You will get given all the information you need to administer the jab. It might look overwhelming to start with but it is actually ok when you do it. Basically you have to put a needle on the pen and 'prime' it by turning the dial on the pen then pushing it down so a little bit of liquid comes out. Then you dial it to the dosage and inject it. It is a tiny needle and I couldn't even feel it. If you do feel ill there are lots of things you can do to help. But it is normal to feel nervous.
