I will be starting Mounjaro at the end of this week. The current April thread are mostly discussing the move onto their second 4 weeks so thought I would start a thread for those of us right at the beginning.

@Caddycat Hi I have the exact same stats as you, but with an underactive thyroid. I started MJ on 2 January and have lost just over 1 stone 7lbs, so I’m 9stone 13lbs now. It’s wonderful getting into the 9 stone bracket! I haven’t had any side effects apart from feeling cold at night. I still have to have my electric blanket on all night. It’s been quite slow compared to some people but I don’t mind as long as it comes off - and this first 1.5 stone has made a big difference. I didn’t tell my husband for the first couple of weeks as I knew he would moan about the cost, and he still does intermittently! My daughters are both on WLI (Wegovy and MJ) and have both lost weight and look great. All I can say is give it a try - it’s been a miracle drug for me. I find I can only eat up to 700 calories in order to lose weight. Any more and i don’t lose, but that’s the problem of being short.

Oh that's so good to hear! My mum and aunty both have an underactive thyroid, I think it must run in the family and I wonder whether I should speak to my GP. I have pretty much all of the symptoms but I just put them down to being a tired mum!
I'm still torn regarding keeping it a secret...

Hello to all the late April/early May starters! Just moved over from the April thread as I took my first dose yesterday so seem to fit in here better. I procrastinated for 3 weeks before plucking up the courage to start, mainly worried about side effects and was away a lot so would rather be at home if I don't feel well. Took it yesterday morning, so far feel ok, had a headache most of yesterday and was exhausted. Woke up with headache this morning and feeling really groggy but not feeling too bad now. Don't really feel hungry, had a protein yoghurt and a coffee mid morning and feel quite full still.
Need to lose weight as recently been diagnosed with HBP and just want to be healthier in general. I feel like I've been trying to lose weight for 10 years and it's just gradually been creeping up. Confidence is rock bottom :( so excited and hopeful for change. Good luck to everyone else!🍀
SW: 13.3
GW: 10 stone ish

lastditchattempt50 · 25/04/2025 12:41

Pen has just arrived but I'm going to start Mon as it's my wedding anniversary Sunday and a lunch is already booked, I want to enjoy the lunch with DH and not feel sick / headachey as we get very little time together as a couple... Nervous but excited too....

Beabeautiful · 25/04/2025 12:42

Enough was enough for me to - ordered my pen and took my first dose last night - don't feel much different, had a breakfast, and now it's lunchtime, I don't feel overly hungry, but hungry enough to eat, but the jacket potato I was planning no longer sounds appealing to - wonder if that is the suppression working.
13.7 stone and 5'2 - hate myself in my clothes and photos.
WFH does not help as I no longer go into the office were you are more 'on show'
Love to post here in a months time when I have a positive post just sat on my fat backside typing this and hoping I can get under the 11 stone mark for Autumn.

Where is everyone buying their pens from please?

Pharmacy2U- they were very quick

RubyJuno · 25/04/2025 13:35

I took first dose about 9pm last night… don’t really feel much different but no unpleasant side effects at least. Had a fairly small
breakfast of raspberries and Greek yogurt at 9.30am and only just starting to feel hungry but I’ve been in a painting workshop all morning so nicely distracted!

Chunkysewist · 25/04/2025 14:18

I used simple online pharmacy. I've used them before for other meds. I started the process Monday and my first pen was here Wednesday 😊
I'm currently listening to the audio book by Jack Moseley, food noise. It's really good so far. At the start it said he's neither for or against the jabs but will tell you how to do it safely and keep the weight off. I'm hoping it's handy for me as I have no gp support. Defo worth a listen/read. I just like to listen while I sew 😁

Is there anywhere to get this book free? Sounds interesting.

Cravingpotatoes · 25/04/2025 15:17

First one done! Amazed at how easy it is to use

TheSilentSister · 25/04/2025 15:24

Me too @Cravingpotatoes. Was a bit nervous but it's actually quite simple to use. Now we wait.

I'm not sure, it's a new book out I think. I used a free monthly credit on audible to get it. I'm a good way into it now and I think it's worth buying, there's alot of info I didn't realise. For example, I thought mounjaro just suppressed appetite and slowed digestion but apparently it also turns white fat to brown fat. Brown fat is metabolised by your body for heat and doesn't just sit there storing energy like white fat. So from what I can gather is mounjaro is accelerating fat burning. It also affects your brain to dull down the over active reward side of things so even when you do fancy a treat you want/need less of it.

Sweetspinach · 25/04/2025 15:35

Hi all. I took my first injection yesterday evening. I've had no appetite suppression yet, very disappointed after hearing so many reports of immediate effects from many of you. Anyone else felt nothing much yet?

BonnieClydeSW15 · 25/04/2025 15:48

ymemanresu · 25/04/2025 11:40

MedExpress but they took longer than usual to deliver due to high demand

Pharmacy2u but will check out any cheaper alternatives if there are any??😁

I feel exactly the same - I 'thought' I had suppression but I think it was in my mind - but it's 4 O clock now and I'm hungry - all I can think about is my tea (I've had a healthy breakfast and dinner and plenty of water) Just hope the suppression kicks in on week 2

Steala · 25/04/2025 16:03

Just done it. I didn't even think about it. I followed along with the video and when they jabbed so did I.

Yes, I'm hoping for week 2 as well. I feel no different. I guess everyone is different, but when you are so desperate for change, it's disappointing to feel no different when others do.

I jabbed yesterday am. I thought I felt a bit nauseous yesterday but it was probably just nervous anticipation! I’ve not had any appetite suppression today, although I’ve not pigged out. So far it’s no different to a calorie counting diet but of course it’s early days 😂

Flowerchild547 · 25/04/2025 17:32

W2D2 for me and goodness can I tell a difference! The lack of appetite is back and I’m struggling to stomach coffees which I used to almost be addicted to previously!
It’s really crazy how much of a change has happened. The food noise is much quieter and I feel I am able to focus better as well

catchingzzzeds · 25/04/2025 17:33

First jab this morning! I was surprised at how easy it was!
I got a killer headache within half an hour, I don’t know if it was a coincidence but I rarely get headaches so I think it probably was down to the jab. A couple of paracetamol reduced it to a dull ache and it has been totally manageable 🤞🏼
I’ve just started cooking my tea, I’d usually be very hungry by now but I’m just a bit peckish.

I'm not really feeling suppression as such. I'm still hungry but less motivated to do anything about it. When I sit down to eat, I feel physically full quite quickly, but am still hungry even though I don't want to eat any more. There's a lot of mixed messages going on in my head!

It didn't stop me shoving popcorn into my mouth when I prepared the kids' snack after school, though 😳

The changing white fat to brown fat is interesting, Chunky.

For the sake of science, I will report back after my bottomless brunch tomorrow. I usually manage to drink a fair bit, so I'm interested to see if the MJ affects how much I can/want to drink.

SerenelySmiling · 25/04/2025 18:09

Hi everyone, first weigh in completed this morning and 6.5lbs off for me! I'm pleased but have previously lost 5.5lbs in week 1 on Slimming World so also thinking that this is a lot more work than SW! I'm also unreasonably pee'd off that it's 6.5 and not 7lbs 🤣

2nd jab was last night an hour before bed. Again really thirsty and some aches in my stomach but I just took ibuprofen and went to work. I'm so relieved that these are my only real side effects. Appetite suppression disappeared on day 5 so I'm hoping this new jab does the trick. I've definitely done the right thing having day 5 mid-week when there's less chance for eating crap!

SkibidiSigma · 25/04/2025 18:47

I am actually getting appetite suppression!. For lunch had a kiwi and yoghurt, which I struggled to finish, then had ham for a snack mid afternoon. DP has just presented me with lasagne and veg for dinner and my stomach turned when I saw it. Am focusing on eating the vegetables and a small amount of lasagne as although I felt slightly hungry beforehand, I've had a few mouthfuls and I'm full. Usually I'd have a healthier dinner anyway rather than lasagne but he was off work today so he cooked.

Also no cravings for crisps or wine which I definitely would usually have!

I'm definitely interested in how much you drink compared to usual so please do report back!

I'm going for afternoon tea tomorrow and am hoping I can manage to eat some of it as seems a waste otherwise

autumnnightsaredrawingin · 25/04/2025 19:00

Hi all,

So many messages! So I did my first jab Wednesday evening, weighed myself Thursday morning to get a starting weight as I hadn’t weighed for a while and starting weight is higher than I thought.

Yesterday was quite good food wise, but today has been awful- really overeaten.

For me so far it’s definitely not been the magic bullet I’ve read so much about… I know it’s very early days though. I’ve read a few others on this post experiencing similar- I just have to hope it starts to work for all of us.

I think from Monday I’ll start tracking calories again as well, I had hoped it would suppress my appetite and cravings enough not to have to, but it definitely hasn’t yet. Will get through the weekend and then try and focus on it more from Monday. Bit disappointed it’s not instant but I know that’s silly!

Chunkysewist · 25/04/2025 19:20

Ive read that 2.5 is just the starter dose really to get your body used to the meds. Some people have effects some people don't. 5mg is the first official treatment dose I believe. So hopefully those not experiencing food suppression yet should do on 5mg. I'm eating ok. I'm not starving or thinking about food 24/7 but I'm managing my 3 meals a day plus water. Seems to be different for all of us.
