I will be starting Mounjaro at the end of this week. The current April thread are mostly discussing the move onto their second 4 weeks so thought I would start a thread for those of us right at the beginning.

Well done @SparklyGlitterballsthats a fantastic start. I also just weighed myself and realised I made an error not doing it right before I jabbed. I did my starting weight well over a week before when I ordered and came in at 14st dead on, but then didn’t weigh this week until now. Today I am 13st 9 but there is no way that’s because of 36 hours of mounjaro 😂 I think it’s because I had an unusually active long weekend away with DD with almost no booze and didn’t eat particularly well at all but was on the go constantly and snacked less. I do always lose the first few pounds of water weight fast as I’m usually sedentary and grazing constantly.

so new stats.

F, 45, 5’6”
January SW 14st 7
end Feb (after normal dieting) W 13st 7
sign up for MJ April W 14st
W1D2W 13st 9

hoping it’s only down from now as I’ve not been a below obese BMI in around 3 years. And not been a normal one for 5 years. Before that I was always lucky to be normal/slightly overweight, but changing to work from home and peri-menopause have ruined me and it’s sliding year on year hence taking drastic action!

Morning everyone :)

First dose taken at midday yesterday. So far - no noticeable side effects. Definite appetite suppression.

I often suffer from insomnia - maybe 3/4 times per week. I think it is caused by my mind being overactive due to work or other issues. The worst thing about my insomnia is that, as the night drags on, I tend to feel very hungry. Last night I was awake until 2:30ish, with the usual mind-whirring insomnia - but - no hunger!

I am feeling peckish now, but certainly
don’t have the usual overwhelming hunger.

I’m full of hope this morning.

What collagen is everyone using?

I have been using nutrition geeks for 2 months now and I have noticed a definite improvement in my skin.

wlinewbie0425 · 25/04/2025 08:08

@Sheldon4k that’s really interesting, I take their magnesium and vitamin d, I have v thin hair and worried about that side effect more than anything, does it help with that as well as skin?

@AbundanceofKatherinesyes to the insomniac snacking! I had a terrible habit of sitting in the dark on the sofa in middle of the night eating leftover pizza. No wonder my weight has gone up and up. I’ve just had a coffee this morning, DH is making pancakes right now and they smell nice but I’m not even tempted. It’s so strange that a drug can provide willpower, or the lack of need for it I guess.

@wlinewbie0425 well done on the loss! That's awesome! I'm trying to hold out till Friday next week to weigh 😬 I only jabbed on Wednesday, feels like a lifetime ago 😂 Im sure I should be thin by now 🤣
I've not been a normal weight for about a decade I think. I've forgotten what it feels like to enjoy clothes shopping etc. I feel fat and sluggish. Tried everything, the last few years I've just been gaining and losing the same 1-2st.

wlinewbie0425 · 25/04/2025 08:26

@Chunkysewisti was Wednesday too! I’ve been the same the last few Januarys, in that I’ve managed to lose a stone or a bit more and then work gets really busy in spring and I go off the rails, then the next Jan the starting weight is around half a stone higher than before. I realised when the pattern repeated this year that by 50 I could end up with obesity that limits my life and have to do something about it.

Yeah, I feel like if I don't do something now I'm going to waste some of the best years of my life in the cycle of dieting and binging. It has to stop. I just wish people would understand when they say that mounjaro is drastic. Surely that should tell them how desperate I'm feeling?!

Found it!! Yay. Day 1 lost all appetite completely - psychological maybe as was so nervous about starting! Let’s see how I go! 🤞

I'm now W1D5. My appetite is decreased but not completely gone, which suits me at the moment. Whereas before I'd be clock watching and thinking "is it time to eat again yet?", I'm now not so bothered and can quite easily look at the time and realise I'm way over my usual meal time.

Yesterday I had a small portion of cereal for breakfast, tuna salad for lunch and some chicken and veggies for dinner. Had an apple and a few grapes during the day too.

I'd like to get in the habit of weighing myself just once a week, but I gave in this morning and weighed when I got up.....4.5 pounds off! I'm pleased with that.

So far my only side effects are huge fluid output (constantly going to loo but have weak bladder anyway) and a bit of constipation. Once or twice I've had a very brief dizzy spell. What are others taking to relieve constipation?

Im 4.5 pounds down too. Suffer constipation already so this is not good. I chop up a hot green chilli i buy from a small Asian supermarket and swallow it with water. Too many senokat type laxatives have caused my bowel to get really lazy in the past.

Sheldon4k · 25/04/2025 09:11

@wlinewbie0425I honestly cant say I have paid particular attention to my hair since taking the collagen, however I have had a few comments about my hair lately (which I have just put down to maybe its because I have just washed it), but it could be down to the collagen?

I also use their magnesium and other supplements but they are more recent purchases.

PeachSnail · 25/04/2025 09:17

I'm now W1D4 and I've noticed a slight decrease in appetite suppression and nausea... Managed a full cup of coffee this morning and everything ☺️
I even had a fleeting thought about going for a piece of chocolate while on the sofa last night... But I was able to just dismiss it without much fuss.
I think that metaphor of food "noise" is really spot on... It's like dialling down the volume on nagging thoughts about food. It's still there, but you can ignore it more easily. It makes eating less/more healthily so much less of a battle.
Anyway - for those with initially strong suppression + nausea, it may dial down as the days progress 🤞

SkibidiSigma · 25/04/2025 10:18

Well no noticeable side effects for me, including appetite suppression. I don't usually eat until lunchtime anyway so maybe a bit early to tell. If I do start struggling to eat I plan to fall back on lidl's food in a bottle and supplement with vegetables and some protein. The food in a bottle is very tasty and seems to have a lot of nutrients in

Oooh I’m intrigued by this food in a bottle stuff?! I do my shopping in Lidl so I’m going to have a look.

is it like Huel? I did a few stints on Huel a few years ago but it felt like a total punishment so I didn’t keep it up. I wonder if MJ might help me to stick to a healthy shake type plan a bit better, given I don’t actually think about or want to eat food at the moment….

SkibidiSigma · 25/04/2025 10:36

@MsRicoletti I've never tried huel but this is like a milkshake, I've only tried the chocolate one but I really like it. It's in the fridge and there is usually only a tiny amount of them so they are easy to miss!

Where is everyone buying their pens from please?

charlie10k · 25/04/2025 11:21

MedExpress but they took longer than usual to deliver due to high demand

PeachSnail · 25/04/2025 11:47

charlie10k · 25/04/2025 11:21

Where is everyone buying their pens from please?

I bought mine from MedExpress using a discount code (though they've now banned public sharing of codes)

But I'm going to try to swap to somewhere cheaper for my next dose.

I've now discovered there's a website you can use to find reputable pharmacies and the cheapest prices. Here's the link https://monj.co.uk/index/

UK GPhC Pharmacy Comparison from Monj

Compare the offers, discounts and costs of Mounjaro services and support from regulated UK pharmacies without any hassle.

Crunchymum · 25/04/2025 11:55

@charlie10k

I avoided Medexpress but did quite a bit of research and in the end went with Simple Online Pharmacy. Their overall prices are competitive, the first month was discounted and I've used them before (different medication) so already had an account.

Not sure if it's because I already have an account but my first pen is here already. I only submitted my request to start MJ on Wednesday (about 4pm) so I'm super impressed thus far.

Will take my first dose tonight. Eeeekkk!!!

I used this comparison site https://monj.co.uk/discount-mounjaro-price-list/ but the prices seem to be a bit out of date now? (For example Superdrug is £215 for the first pen!)

charlie10k · 25/04/2025 11:57

Thanks everyone

YippeeAbsentmindedly · 25/04/2025 12:02

Morning, and hello to everyone who has joined.

W1D4 for me. For the second night in a row I woke early hours because of a bad dream and struggled to get back to sleep. Not sure if it's MJ related or possibly stress as I have a lot going on at the moment.

Queasy and groggy again when I woke up but it soon disappears. I can still feel I'm hungry but I just lack the motivation to do anything about it!

Re: collagen/protein powder, I don't like milkshake-type drinks so I got clear protein with collagen from MyProtein.

Sparkly I drink a lot normally, usually at least 2x 1L bottles during the day and the same again at night, so I am always running to the loo anyway 🤣

Cabinfever20 · 25/04/2025 12:10

@Caddycat Hi I have the exact same stats as you, but with an underactive thyroid. I started MJ on 2 January and have lost just over 1 stone 7lbs, so I’m 9stone 13lbs now. It’s wonderful getting into the 9 stone bracket! I haven’t had any side effects apart from feeling cold at night. I still have to have my electric blanket on all night. It’s been quite slow compared to some people but I don’t mind as long as it comes off - and this first 1.5 stone has made a big difference. I didn’t tell my husband for the first couple of weeks as I knew he would moan about the cost, and he still does intermittently! My daughters are both on WLI (Wegovy and MJ) and have both lost weight and look great. All I can say is give it a try - it’s been a miracle drug for me. I find I can only eat up to 700 calories in order to lose weight. Any more and i don’t lose, but that’s the problem of being short.

Cabinfever20 · 25/04/2025 12:13

@Chunkysewist I use Ancient and Brave marine collagen and it’s been great at stopping hair loss. I can’t blame MJ for that though as it’s been happening for the last couple of years. My age I’m afraid.
