@MooBaggage I take both.

I have been taking creatin since January as my sister swears by it. She's all about the health and fitness and has used it for years. I have no idea if it works. She bought it for me and when I run out I'll try a month without it and see if it works.

She also bought us both a pack of Nutrient Geeks Collagen Glow Up 2 weeks ago. I've been putting it in my morning smoothie bowl. I have not been a huge fan of the gritty texture it gave, but have been trying out different ways to consume it.
The pack recommends putting it in a hot drink and I think you could possibly disguise it in coffee, but you absolutely CAN taste it in mint tea and roobois. I even tried it in a small amount of cold water this morning. It took an age to dissolve and is right up there with one of the most disgusting things I've ever put in mouth.

Saying that, I will persevere with it (in the smoothie bowl) as my skin is looking pretty amazing at the moment. Is it the collagen? Is it the 8 glasses of water I drink a day? who knows!!

Arglefraster · 22/05/2025 10:10

I've been taking collagen powder (currently in my morning smoothie) for a few years and it took my skin from so dry it cracked when I blinked /stretched to just very dry skin - I have no idea if it helps my skin from a aging/aesthetic point of view.

Like taylor I take creatine (also in my smoothie) because Stacy Sims told me to 🤣🐑 I'm hoping for the brain fog (peri) & improved gut barrier (some theories that it might be implicated in alopecia) effects.

Arglefraster · 22/05/2025 10:13

I forgot my NSV for this week - I fell up the stairs because I tripped on my (shin length T-shirt) nightie so I guess it's longer with less of me in the way (it's absolutely massive I've had it for years & it happily contained me 9months pregnant 🤣)

Ditsy79 · 22/05/2025 11:26

Had a bit of a victory today - weighed myself and I have now lost 10.2kg in total on MJ! Over 10kg - I am amazed. I still have a long way to go (34kg according to stupid BMI Calculator website), but I am really pleased.

Zebracat · 22/05/2025 12:48

Well done to Moo for getting to 17 stone, and for being able to sit cross legged!
im feeling very down today, because this had all been going so well, I’ve lost more than a stone in a month, had loads of energy and felt so good. But I get gout and low calorie diets are a trigger, and I have a flare up in my second smallest toe. It’s proper messed me up, my sleeps gone to pot, I’m grumpy and I can’t exercise. People dont get gout, but it’s not just my toe which is agony, I feel really unwell. The rational me knows I need to up my calories and lose weight slower, but I’m just so scared it’s all going to go wrong. I already eat around 16 hundred calories a day, perhaps I should just add one of @alwaysscared protein bar finds. Sorry for moaning.

Hotflushesandchilblains · 22/05/2025 12:51

I broke through the plateau last week - 1.8 kg this week! So now up to 5 kg in total in 6 weeks which I am happy with. Still on 5mg and feeling it helps, using the tracker someone recommended.

SW 109.2
CW 104.2

So happy, thanks for all the support and tips. The inulin has really helped with the constipation and the tracker recommended is brilliant.

MooBaggage · 22/05/2025 14:19

That sounds horrible @Zebracat 🙁 Yes, maybe increase your protein slightly, so at least the additional calories aren't carbs/sugar etc.? What a nightmare though - are there any treatments for gout?

argh I've not been managing to keep up with the thread properly but it seems like everyone is here and going strong.

I've gone up to 10mg this week and have had return of my (fingers crossed) only side effect - the deep chill. I've been OK for a while as the weather has warmed up. But now I am freezing again.

Its a funny side effect especially as I've been a hot mess my entire adult life.

I wear Primark vest tops quite a lot - just the basic ones and some called "dress vests" that are supposed to be short dresses I guess. I'm tall so they worked well for me as vests but absolutely never considered them a dress. I wear them to yoga with leggings or as a nightie.

Except now they have gained much length and a few in the bigger sizes will have to be retired (as least for public wear) very soon. I started off wearing the biggest size vest Primark offered and now I'm wearing mediums.

if anyone here likes/is missing cereal I ordered a trial 8 packs of this for my teens and they love it: https://eatsurreal.co.uk/

I've not eaten cereal since I was a kid - I'm not a fan. The sugar levels in cereal have always been a concern but my teens love it, and as I often leave them to forage for themselves these days I thought we'd try this high protein/low carb cereal.

I did taste it but its waaay too sweet for me - but my teens love it, and at least they are getting a protein hit rather than a sugar hit.

High Protein Low Carb Cereal For Adults

Surreal is a high-protein, zero sugar, keto-friendly gluten-free, and plant-based cereal. Available in Cocoa,Cinnamon,Frosted and Peanut Butter. It shouldn't be possible to make healthy cereal this delicious.

alwaysscared · 22/05/2025 17:18

@Zebracat poor you, now that really is something to moan about! I’ll let you know my review on the bars when they arrive!
Im now 1.4lbs off a 5 stone loss, so tantalisingly close!
NSV today, I went to some local charity shops today and bought 2 new shirt/blouse things, size 14!! And one was a Zara one! Chuffed with that!

ctrlaltdelete1 · 22/05/2025 17:23

Aw @Zebracat- I’m a fellow gout sufferer so know the all-consuming pain and that feeling. I hope you can get something to help!

Zebracat · 22/05/2025 17:44

Thank you for the love, it really helped. I did go swimming, so feel quite proud. Cherries help, specifically montmorency cherries, so I ve bought some concentrate, some tea and some electrolytes . I’ve bought the glow up collagen as it helps with joint pain apparently, and also my nails are s@#t And Ive bought yubi protein bars and also Bounty protein bars, mainly because I’m the saddo who loves Bounty bars!. When in doubt , shop!.
@ctrlaltdelete1 . Has the weight loss triggered any flares for you? How are you managing it?

InfoSecInTheCity · 22/05/2025 18:10

Just had a Quick Look at dietary guidance for gout @Zebracat and it looks like good fats, green veg, vitamin c and lean meats are recommended alongside cherries and my favourite recommendation COFFEE!

if you like iced coffee drinks then you could probably whip up a delicious Frappuccino with a vanilla protein shake, an espresso and some ice. That would bulk out your calories a little to prevent them going too low, add protein and add caffeine.

Nut butters, avocados and seeds would give you good fats which are important for joints, calories, protein and fibre so could be easy additions to your existing meals.

ctrlaltdelete1 · 22/05/2025 19:34

@Zebracatno gout flares since starting MJ- feel a wee niggle in my big toe every so often but hasn’t gotten past that. Currently scared I might be facing an Inflammatory Bowel Disease flare - that or all of a sudden MJ is starting to give me awful side effects - I’m only 2 stone into a 7+ stone journey so trying to do everything I can to not challenge my digestive system too much and hoping everything settles down again.

Can you take naproxen? Before my IBD diagnosis, that was great at easing my gout. Even the word is horrible!!!

QueenOfHiraeth · 22/05/2025 20:27

@RobinEllacotStrike I treated myself to the cinnamon hoop version of those cereals and it disproved my thought that nothing could ever be too sweet for me! It was like eating a lump of unadulterated sweetener and left the taste in my mouth for ages. It was too expensive to throw away though so I sprinkle a few on top of my yoghurt and fruit

I take collagen occasionally (I keep forgetting!) and agree it can be disguised in black coffee but is disgusting in almost everything else

Absolutely- they could easily halve or quarter or the sweetness and make it much better. My girls love it though.

I do like sweet but not things that are very sweet.

It’s been lovely getting back to eating fruit on MJ. I pretty much stopped eating fruit, apart from berries, when my IBS was bad. Once I got IBS sorted I never really ate much fruit. But now I eat at least 🥝🥝 and a pomegranate every day. And lots of other fruit too.

I’ve just made a chia seed pudding with tinned pineapple & coconut cream. About 180 cals for 200ml serving. Delicious. I usually make it with mango purée but can’t source one without added sugar. Why would you add sugar to mango? Too sweet.

but the thought of eating sugary foods has little appeal.

InfoSecInTheCity · 22/05/2025 20:49

@RobinEllacotStrike could you buy frozen mango, blitz it up in the blender then keep it in ice cube trays or silicone moulds in the freezer so you can just get it out and use it as you need? It would only take a few minutes to blitz up a bags worth and that would make several portions depending on how much you use.

Grrrr can't tag anyone tonight. RobinEllacotStrike, might sound a bit bizarre but if you like mango puree have you tried the Aldi mango baby food pouches? They're literally just mango.

I have them because it's the only way the youngest will take any kind of medicine. Crush the medicine, stick it in the packet and give it to him job done.

RonMJ · 22/05/2025 23:05

We bought trial packs of 4 types of the Surreal cereal because my husband was diagnosed diabetic, desperately wanted an easy breakfast and it’s supposed not to cause a sugar spike. He wears a glucose monitor so could see in real time what was happening. There was much sadness in the house when after a couple of weeks of trying different flavours with different milks the results came in and the cereal had to go out. 😭

Timetofindme · 23/05/2025 07:35

Scale victory this morning. Although not official weigh day, I'll take it as its progress even if it bumps up and down a bit. I have not weighed this little (still a lot) since before June 2011 which was my first ever weight track in myfitnesspal!

I've been in a stall for probably about 6-8 weeks with the same couple of pounds going on and off so rather pleased even if it does go back up tomorrow!

Zebracat · 23/05/2025 08:06

@InfoSecInTheCity you really are the info sec for this group! Thanks so much. I eat a lot of nuts seeds and avocados, but I have gone off coffee since starting mounjaro, so I will restart . Think I was complacent about water too, I don’t think I was having enough. And Id forgotten that naproxen work well for me, but I’m out, so I will ask my doctor for some. Just received 3 huge pouches of Collagen glow up, and now I read that it’s disgusting. I’m having it anyway at that price!
Im having trouble loading Mumsnet again.

48mumof6 · 23/05/2025 08:14

Hi, I started in November I have lost 3 stone. It’s slower for me than I thought it would be but I’m on lots of medication that causes weight gain eg gabapentin and amitriptyline also I can’t exercise due to mobility issues. I was in hospital in March as had a DVT and then bilateral pulmonary embolisms so get breathless just walking a little bit.

I set a goal to be a size 18 about 18 stone(I’m 6ft1) by September 2026 when I turn 50, I have about 5 and half stone to get to that.

I hope you all reach your own goals 💖💖

MooBaggage · 23/05/2025 09:20

Hi @48mumof6 🙂That's a really good goal to have set for your 50th - how lovely to think you'll be fit and healthy in your 50's! I'm 56 now and also have the same timeframe as you - for me, I've predicted I will be at my final, final BMI of 24 healthy weight by 1st September 2026 and I will hopefully have lost 8 1/2 stone by then. I'm looking forward to finishing off my 50's in style and heading towards a healthy retirement! So we're both in it for the long haul - we can keep each other company on this thread😀

@Zebracat let me know what the collagen tastes like - I'm still dithering!

My skin looks a trillion times better now I'm drinking tons of water (and have started to use Avon's tinted moisturiser which makes me look a bit less like a ghost), but my hair could do with some help...
