Thanks everyone :) I might try the 6 when I’m back from holiday, I can’t do the extra dose thing though (needles freak me out) so I guess that means I’d have to finish the pen a week early?

Arglefraster · 11/05/2025 14:44

Had to go back & put a vest on earlier as my v-neck is now far too low 🙈 (DH says he's sad I've noticed 🧐) vest is apparently too big too & didn't actually help much.
I need to buy clothes 😭 there are a few smaller in the wardrobe but not enough. I hate having to wear different clothes but you know NSV 😂🫠

It's an awesome problem to have!

I'm in the middle of sizes myself. All my size 26-28s are big. But I have size 22s which don't really fit and I don't want to buy new clothes at this stage

This is exactly my problem! Baggy stuff is fine but far too much cleavage is just awful. Maybe if I find some better vests that would tide me over by making those tops wearable for cooler days

Arglefraster · 11/05/2025 16:15

Oh @mamabeeboothank you for replying it made me think about vests & I've just found a wee pile of size 22 vests tucked away in the drawer of despair! Off to put them in The wash & then they'll keep the size 26 tops decent 😆

The drawer of despair had me!! 😂
I have a duffel bag in the garage which was brought out and using the sunny weather this weekend to do the wash. There are some with tags on that I never wore 🙄 I think I was in denial of the size I actually was

My problem isn't so much cleavage, my weight loss along with menopause means all my weight is sitting around the middle now (in my upper and lower B belly).

My shoulders are quite boney in comparison to how they were before, so my bigger tops keep slipping off to the side showing my bra straps (not a good look regardless of how pretty the bra strap is, especially on a 56 year old!)

There have been times I seriously considered resurrecting '80s shoulder pads - just to avoid looking like a half filled water balloon! 🤣

RainbowConnection1 · 11/05/2025 18:23

My weight is all around my middle too, mostly in the lower B belly. I am watching it slowly shrink with interest though fear I may be heading down the path of looking like a half filled water ballon myself!

I am two days into my first 5mg week and can report that, so far, side effects have been minimal. Long may that last!! Appetite suppression is strong so my meals have been pretty small and thankfully the food noise has faded away again.

What a fun journey this is 😄.

MontyJinks · 11/05/2025 20:00

@WeAllHaveWings

Exactly the same problem here - bony shoulders!

Was going to wait to buy new clothes, but I've had to relent and buy just a few t-shirts in a smaller size, because my (also too big) greying fraying bra strap is clearly visible 😂

Not a good look, but a nice 'problem' to have 😊

Keep going everyone 💪

So, I decided to move my jab from Monday to yesterday, I’m wanting to do Fridays going forward. I took the 7.5mg and I’m still starving 😫 I actually think that Mounjaro just doesn’t work for me anymore. I could just eat and eat, I won’t though, but it’s hard!!

RobinEllacotStrike · 11/05/2025 21:24

A woman I know uses shirring elastic to alter men’s shirts. They look amazing. I’ve got an oversized pinstriped shirt I’ve been meaning to have a go on.

lots of YT videos

Are you managing to eat better now @alwaysscared? Having more protein and less carb/sugar can help fill you up too. If you are still eating lots of starch and sugar based foods it's kind of working against the MJ
My guidelines I try to stick to are to aim for 100g protein a day (ideally 30g or more at each meal), drink lots and then drink lots more

alwaysscared · 11/05/2025 22:42

@QueenOfHiraeth I have been trying to get more protein, with cottage cheese, Greek yogurt (I seem to be doing ok with dairy) eggs, protein puddings, I am finding it hard to get up to 100g though.
What foods that I eat are starchy and too sugary? The only sugary things I eat are frozen grapes, raspberries and blueberries, apples and occasionally watermelon.
An example of what I eat (today):
Apple for breakfast
Greek Yog with 20g Holland and Barrett muesli (just for a bit of crunch, obvs some sugar in this), 30g grapes and berries, cinnamon.
Small jacket potato (just started having these, obvs starchy) with half a tub of cottage cheese, lettuce, carrot sticks, celery, cucumber, egg, beetroot.
2 x bowls of frozen grapes, raspberries and blueberries (came to around 500g, I really love my frozen fruit!)
I drink around 6 litres of sparkling water a day

alltablenochairs · 11/05/2025 23:30

This is where I stick my hand up and admit to buying some stuff from Temu. Yes, it's evil as hell but I'm permaskint and the thought of having to go to an actual clothes shop and do proper clothes shopping makes me want to stick red hot pokers in my eyes. My teen years were not fun from a body image POV (bullying plus some nasty home shit) so that hugely influences how I dress. Even if I am wearing a dress I would wear a pair of trousers as well and I very much choose clothing that at a bare minimum covers my arse. Like others I am also well past wearing cleavage revealing stuff. I'm not a full on modest dresser but definitely more modest than not- I would NEVER wear shorts for example. Besides, one of the disadvantages of being a wheelchair user is that my not-insubstantial cleavage (please, please, please let these shrink as I continue to lose weight!!) is generally at most people's eyeline.

However considering it's been a hot day today this is all irrelevant. I'm in bed with a winter wool duvet, pyjamas, fluffy socks, four blankets and I am STILL cold ffs. This is in part a non-MJ thing but I'd like to be actually warm this summer. DH has started sleeping downstairs on the sofa because he says he can't sleep in a bedroom that's like a furnace. Being perma-cold is the only MJ side effect that's ever been problematic for me.

Monday weigh in and 1.5lb loss this week.

Starting weight - 217.5 lbs (BMI 33)
Current weight - 151.3 lbs (BMi 23)
Total loss - 66.2 lbs (30% bodyweight)

GW - 141 lb
10lb left to lose

MooBaggage · 12/05/2025 07:05

Random weigh in for me (because it's been driving me mad!) and have finally got to 3 stone off!

Week 1: SW 20 st 3lbs. BMI 43
Week 18: CW 17 st 3lbs. BMI 36.6

Next target - to get in the 16s - aiming for when I go on holiday in mid-June, which should be doable.

@alltablenochairs 💐💐💐. No judgement from me on where you buy your clothes. I hate T%#&, but it’s because I can’t get rid of the annoying adverts for them on ScrabbleGo!
I’m cold too, but I’ve always run hot, so it’s not exacerbating an existing issue. Your life seems really hard . Does the MJ at least feel like something for you?

Zebracat · 12/05/2025 09:31

@MooBaggage whoop whoop. 3 stone. Well done you. If it’s taken 18 weeks to lose 3 stone, why are you expecting it to take a month to lose 3 pounds? Has the rate of loss slowed for you that much? I’m asking because I am terrible for counting my chickens, know I need a more cautious mindset. I lost half a stone in the first 2 weeks and fully expected that to be a stone by today which is week 3, day 3😁

Zebracat · 12/05/2025 09:38

Sorry for the triple post, but re clothes. I, of course, thoroughly sorted out my clothes a month ago. I told myself to stop hanging on to aspirational stuff that would never ever fit me, and charity shopped all of it. So annoyed now. So, as I travel down the sizes( and I really think I will), should I send the big stuff into the loft, or get rid of it?

taylorswift1989 · 12/05/2025 10:23

A little NSV for me this morning. Walking my sister's kids to school, there's a short cut where you have to squeeze through a gap in the railings. I usually have to turn sideways and wedge myself through the gap. This morning, I turned sideways and glided through without touching the sides! Bit silly but felt good!

Also am in size 16 trousers today - they have an elasticated waist though so I think that's probably why they fit! Still, quite nice to see that number on the label rather than something beginning with 2!

Hello, thinking about this and wondered what any GPs are saying regarding the thyroid cancer warning? My mum had it so that’s a worry….
Also, is the weight loss so fast that it’s causing loose skin for many people? I know this isn’t the main concern and that’s totally worth it, just wondering…. Thank you

Yes - really hoping to be in the 16s by the end of May, but am trying to manage my own expectations, based on the many, many failures I've had previously re: losing weight...

I know it's completely different now with MJ, but I'm still finding weight loss mentally very difficult in lots of ways - my body is adapting brilliantly but my mind is still often in self sabotage mode - wanting too much, too soon and being depressed if it is isn't all happening immediately..! So I keep telling myself 1lb a week is fantastic and some weeks I won't lose and that's fine too. Repeat endlessly until I'm Very Old 😀

In reality, Shotsy tells me my average weight loss is 2.5lb a week, but I think over the past few weeks it's been around 1.5lb - which I have to tell myself is really good - so we keep going and keep battling the demons!

Nothing has been mentioned about thyroid cancer, but like with any of the risks it something I have considered, but decided that being 21st was a bigger and more eminent danger. Its a risk of course, but then so is leaving the house every day.

As for skin - I was nearly 21st and 47. I'm going to have loose skin if I diet slowly or loose the weight quickly. I am in fact loosing slowly - 1 to 2lbs a week which is what is recommended.

QueenOfHiraeth · 12/05/2025 11:48

Well done @MooBaggage it's great to hit a milestone like that! Weight loss is slower for all of us as we get further along but it's still well worth it.

@AnotherNaCha Over 90% of thyroid cancers are papillary or follicular but the specific type of thyroid cancer mentioned in the drug company data is medullary. This is a very rare form of cancer and, although it has been seen in animal trials, has never been seen as a result of GLP1 use in 20 years of treating diabetics. Rats and mice have GLP1 receptors in the thyroid which humans don't so the risk is very low or possibly even theoretical.
Loose skin is a risk with any weight loss but a personal trainer told me that a diet with adequate protein and healthy fats helps, as does weight or resistance training, moisturising and time (it can continue t shrink for up to 2 years after weight loss. Having said that I look like a deflated, shrivelled balloon but I am in my mid-60s so don't care!

@alwaysscared Well done on building in some protein, it's always a better strategy to add good stuff to your diet than to take stuff out.
I've taken the liberty of putting your food list into the tracker I use, I hope you don't mind. If that is all you will eat today I think your calories are still too low as it is under 1000 (no wonder you are hungry!), it's still very low in protein and you are still having a lot of sugar from all the fruit which is not ideal with diabetes and will be fighting against the MJ. I've screenshotted the macro summary and will PM it to you later when I can figure out how to get my phone to speak to my laptop

@claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer
There was an interesting article about how the body plateaus after losing 10% of body weight as it goes into survival mode. Sorry I can’t remember where it was posted. I am hopefully just coming out of a plateau I was on 3.75 & have moved up to 5 which is having an impact.

That’s really interesting, I’m just a couple of pounds over 10% lost since starting MJ, so might just need to let my body adjust a bit!
