I feel a bit miserable tonight. It’s only day 5 of week one and the appetite suppression has completely gone, I’ve been so hungry today 🙁
And I don’t think I will have lost any weight by day 7 either , I can normally tell when a couple of pounds come off- knees a bit less hurty, tummy a bit wobblier, less like a tight drum but don’t feel anything.
I know it’s ‘only’ week one but I’m afraid now that I’ve got 3 weeks to go on a dose that probably isn’t doing anything for me yet. I know I’ve probably set my expectations too high, but so many people report good losses on 2.5mg at the start and I just thought the suppression I was feeling would last a bit longer.
Sorry for the moan. Just wanted to get it off my chest and nobody in real life knows I’m doing WLI so I can only moan here!

As I understand it, the first month is just to get your body used to the drug. 5mg is the dose where it’s expected to start losing weight.

So try not to worry just yet. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

Don’t be too down. I really wasn’t sure I had much suppression at all last week then weirdly days 6 and 7 were the most effective and once I took my second jab I’ve felt big changes. Remember the 1/2 life is 5 days - that doesn’t mean the drug is completely gone in 5 days. As we continue to dose at 2.5 each week the overall level in our system will gradually increase so you may get better effects towards the end of the first month even if you don’t feel much in this first week. Potato1234 · Yesterday 08:11

I’ve been reading about how MJ has a half life of five days, hence why people feel the effects much less on day 6 and 7. Apparently the 7 days is a marketing strategy because people find it easier to take once a week, but can be taken every 5 days. Just thought I’d share if people were wondering why it tails off at the end of the week

I watched a you tube clip yesterday where a guy was saying he’s going to inject every 5 days rather than increase his dose. He sited this website https://glp1plotter.com/ where you can input your dose information and then play around with it and see where your dose is peaking and dipping. I did wonder if this is partly why we stall? He’s not a medic, but what he says makes sense. I might try it when I stall. Apologies if I’ve not quoted Potato1234 correctly - I’m new to Mums Net and still figuring out how to post! 😬

Ok - I’ve now got 3 side effects I’ve not read much about… here goes…

My period just finished. I’m in peri menopause and it’s usually torrential. It was much lighter this month… could be coincidence but an interesting one.

For most of my life I’ve been a really enthusiastic writer - writing novels and short stories - I’ve had writers block for nearly 4 yrs. yesterday I woke up with a sudden urge to write and 2000 words poured out of me.

My libido which has been missing along with my ability to write has suddenly reappeared- sadly we’re staying in my parent’s house with paper thin walls so I haven’t notified my husband of this change but it’s interesting. I thought MJ was meant to decrease libido.

maybe it’s all coincidence - anyone else got any weird possible side effects?

Summerbay23 · 15/04/2025 08:37

W1D2 feel much less nauseous this morning but still utterly exhausted, I had about 1350 calories yesterday so don’t think it’s lack of food. I had loads of water too, maybe I’m just adjusting, might try some electrolytes today to see if that helps.

Im also feeling constipated despite water so might need to eat some prunes or something. It’s all a learning curve.

Thank you for that. Sorry, what is TDEE? I’m very new to all this!

Total Day Expended Energy?

I’m definitely jealous of those who have had an improvement to their period or period symptoms!! Mine is just as it usually is and just as painful but never mind it’s nearly done!! I’ve noticed absolutely zero shift in weight during this week but fingers crossed it will drop when my period is over 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I don’t have a clue either haha 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

Ofcoursehesthefkingfarmer · 15/04/2025 09:10

W3D7 and OMFG I’ve just put a pair of jeans on which have been sitting in the back of the drawer for a good 18months because I couldn’t do them up.

Most of my wardrobe hasn’t fitted me for a long time, I keep it in the hope I will lose weight and keep buying more clothes to fit my ever expanding waistline. The thrill at starting to get back into old stuff after just 4 weeks is real. I might have my old clothes back on in time for summer 🥲

NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy · 15/04/2025 09:34

@Incognitoburrito88yes, similarly to you I have a wonderful side effect of depression lifting. I think I have been under a cloud of depression for about a year now and been steadily getting worse, but I’ve just started to feel old feelings of joy and excitement which I haven’t had for a looooong time. Long May this last!

You're right! TDEE is Total Daily Energy Expenditure. It's your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate - how much energy your body needs just to function) plus however many calories you burn a day through other exercise.

Anecdotally I think there's evidence of MJ improving conditions like PCOS for some women, so maybe it can have a generally positive impact on our hormones? I've definitely felt much more motivated and productive at work since starting, but whether that's related to the anti-inflammatory effects of the drug or whether it's just a placebo I can't be sure. It's been nice to have some good side effects to go with the less pleasant ones though!

TheHappyBug · 15/04/2025 09:52

Hi - joining in, I took my first dose last night, I have previously used Saxenda and I found this much harder to administer because I have small hands and this pen comes so far out it was hard to press it!

Incognitoburrito88 · 15/04/2025 10:00

@Ofcoursehesthefkingfarmer that’s amazing - what a fantastic feeling. Very happy for you.

@NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy I’m glad you’re feeling better. It does seem to be something that other people have noted. Maybe it is just placebo or maybe it’s because worrying about my weight has taken up so much space in my head for so long that I haven’t had room for happy thoughts. I feel like I’ve got so much more space to think now.

FizzBe · 15/04/2025 10:38

It's definitely not linear.
W2D3 and it feels like morning sickness today but not previously.
Scale victory dropped into a new number - 189.9lbs!
This has brought me a disproportionate amount of joy.

Ethela · 15/04/2025 10:49

You're right! TDEE is Total Daily Energy Expenditure. It's your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate - how much energy your body needs just to function) plus however many calories you burn a day through other exercise.

TDEE is specific to you - height, weight, gender, activity level and tells you calories for you to maintain your weight. You can calculate it here. You need to be TDEE minus 500 cals to lose weight. You also need to recalculate it as you lose weight - so pen/month - as sorry to break it to you but you will need to eat less calories as you get slimmer if you want to maintain or lose. Not working out your amended TDEE means you plateau or gain weight. Just redone mine its gone down 200 cals since I started MJ two weeks ago....!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/articles/how_many_calories_do_you_need

How many calories do I need?

How many calories do I need?

Use this calculator to find out how many calories you need to maintain your current weight. Then reduce that figure by up to 500 calories a day to start losing weight safely.

RhaenysRocks · 15/04/2025 11:16

Just moved jab 3 up by 12 hours as felt the same hunger I had previously to MJ even after two slices of sourdough toast. Interesting what a pp said about efficacy really being about 5 days but being sold as 7 just to make it easier.
Just a question about the pen...mines has some lines marked on the glass..should the plunger be resting one further down each time after the jab? I've convinced myself that its in the same position now as it was before and that the med hasn't gone in..but it was fine when I primed it.

Ethela · 15/04/2025 11:17

My TDEE is now 1600c - so I need to max at 1100c to lose weight.

Following the general guidence of 2000c for woman would have me gain weight - probs 1pound a week! I might start calculating my TDEE for milestone weights along the way as I dont have the patience, time or money for an avoidable plateau - and a heads up reality check might be useful to come to terms with.

SquishyQuokka · 15/04/2025 12:49

Assuming I am counting my days correctly I’m W1D6 and I’ve lost 2.6kg. This may well be water / bloat, but it means I have dropped just below 77.5kg. For over 3 years I have been struggling to get below this weight, always fluctuating between 77.5 and 82kg, no matter what I do. So this is a peak moment for me.

SW - 79.9kg
CW - 77.3kg
TW - 68kg

Is anyone else struggling to get anyone to use their discount code? I’ve had one person say they were going to use it but they clearly haven’t as I don’t have any credits showing on my dashboard. I can’t really afford to order the next one without the discount, is there some secret trick to getting someone to use it on the promo board? I posted it the other day but no takers. I know there are tons floating around out there so I understand it’s not as simple as just posting it though.

Have you thought about shopping around and switching providers?
Have you checked out monj.co.uk?
They have suppliers on there that list he to 15mg doses for less than £150.
Is it worth changing provider?
Sorry if you've considered this already x x x

I was going to say the same as @TheFunkyDuckling and see if you could change providers and use someone else's discount code? You can still share your code with people to try to get the next pen at a reduced price but maybe mixing up providers might work on your favour.

I've got a 25% discount code (up to £40 off) for Zava if you want would like it - if anyone would like it actually. Let me know and I'll DM you 😊

Ok here goes! After ordering on Wednesday, my first pen has arrived. I’ll be injecting this evening once I’m back from the cinema, so Tuesdays will be my injection and weigh-in day.

SW - 11st 12lbs
GW - 9st 12lbs

This is very helpful, thank you. I hadn't considered the half life effect. I might inject later today (day 6) as I want to move my injection day towards (or back to) the weekend anyway in case of side effects as the dosage increases.
feeling much more positive again today thanks to the posters who replied to my previous post. Thank you all 😊

Sorry for TMI but: Has anyone had bad diarrhoea after the first dose and not gone on to have it with the next? I have been suffering since yesterday evening and it’s only slightly improved even though I took some Imodium this morning.

I am back to work next Tues (teacher) and feeling worried about how I will cope if I am this ill after the second. My injection day was Saturday.
