Hi all. Just got first pen and am scared to take the plunge. Am 56, overweight and have been living on high stress for many, many years! Haven’t had a good nights sleep in years (wake up snoring!) and know I need to do something! I am quite active already but the high stress & no sleep mean I just keep gaining weight & the food noise is excruciating! I don’t have any weight scales at home so should I get some before taking first jab or just get on with it! Any advice is welcome!

The tape measure is a better indicator than the evil scales.

Be careful, im sure you know abdominal pain can caused by gallstones from losing too quickly?
Im really worried about this and researching it now.

I had emergency surgery for gallstones (that I didnt know I had) last year after extreme pain and was admitted through A&E. These rogue gallstones were likely from when I had lost weight dramatically in the past. So its not gall stones now. I was also worried the pain would escalate last night as pancreatitis is a serious SE of MJ - but thankfully not that. The thought of putting something in my stomach today is currently dreadful but I might have some soup later. I am surprised the SE are coming now after a month (with no weight loss) - maybe it was the bad food choice that was hard to digest? No fibre, fat from butter and chocolate?

TheNinthLock · 23/04/2025 10:09

The unpredictability of the side effects worry me. I am timing my jabs so I should (in theory) suffer the worst ones over the weekend.
But from reading (almost all) the MN MJ threads, it seems rather random.

Oh dear, sorry you had this, sounds awful. This issue is making me anxious.

Mounjaro newbie here 👋
Each year I would go in a viscous cycle of losing between 14 & 20 pounds in Jan-Feb, and then slowly putting it all back on again throughout the year! Each year my starting weight come 1st of Jan would increase by about 4 pounds. This year I topped nearly 15 stone which is just astronomical for me. As usual in Jan I lose a stone, bringing my weight to 13 stone 11 by end of February. Then I lose absolutely nothing the next few months since I'm out & about doing a lot more, eating out more, drinking a bit more etc etc.
Start of April this year I decided to try Mounjaro 2.5mg and I've lost 8 pounds in 3 weeks! I'm the lightest I've been in 2 years and I can really see myself losing another stone to reach my goal weight of about 12 stone by the end of Summer.
For me it really has been amazing. I've had minimal side effects, a little bit of nausea one night and some looser stools a few mornings, but other than dryer skin on my hands, I feel absolutely fine.
I start on 5mg this weekend so hoping I can continue with the little side effects 👏

Crikeyalmighty · 23/04/2025 11:05

@TheNinthLock mine haven’t been Random - I get mild ish stomache ache about 26 hours after jab and nausea from about 40 hours post jab for 2 days ( feels like a bad hangover) and then it all goes away - and im
ok for 3 days or so - been horribly predictable - on the plus side I haven’t been sick or had constipation or diarrhoea . I do envy those who have no SEat all- ( and that aspect is random) on the plus side I am down 7lbs in 3 weeks but I have eaten like a saint , mainly because I feel sick

MissCreative · 23/04/2025 11:14

Wonderfulstuff · 22/04/2025 19:43

So it turns out that as well as being fat I'm also terrible at maths - I've actually lost 12lbs in my first two weeks. I know it will level out but I'm genuinely shocked that it's so much as I wasn't even really that convinced that it was working for me.

That’s brilliant! Weight loss that is!!!

ymemanresu · 23/04/2025 10:16

Oh dear, sorry you had this, sounds awful. This issue is making me anxious.

But she did say the gallstones were there from a previous loss. My GP said rapid weight loss is what can cause them and said 1-2lbs a week is ok.

Zireael · 23/04/2025 11:29

everyone’s losses are so encouraging, so pleased for you all.

I’m at an outpatient appointment waiting to be called in. Am fully expecting to be told weight is affecting my condition and I can at least say I am doing something about it.

Otherwise I’m at home by myself today which is usually a massive danger-zone. I would normally stop off on the way home, buy two boxes of cakes, a packet of biscuits and a big chocolate bar and then eat them all with no one at home to see. It crossed my mind to do it, but I actually don’t feel like it now. Something must be working!

SausageRoll90 · 23/04/2025 11:39

Hi everyone - W2D5 for me and definitely more suppression today. It's funny how in W1 in felt suppression immediately then it tailed off but this week the suppression has built up over the week.

Yesterday I had the most calories I've eaten since starting (2000ish) and I felt awful in the evening. Didn't eat any dinner because I just felt rubbish, really full and had indigestion. Just goes to show the impact of junk food Vs healthy foods.

Any tips for constipation/sluggish bowels other than fluids?

Doidontimmm · 23/04/2025 12:37

Help! I tried to order my second pen from ZAVA and after 6 days they have just cancelled my order as my BMI is under 30 (it wasn’t 4 weeks ago). My current provider is much more expensive but I guess I have to stick with them or has anyone else successfully changed with a lower bmi?

Mounraine · 23/04/2025 13:22

@SausageRoll90 I'm taking a single Senna tablet, but not every day. DP has worried me about my bowels getting reliant on them so I’m trying to only use them when I feel really uncomfortable.

fox919 · 23/04/2025 13:36

W2d6 today. I feel very slightly hungry physically, but keep looking in my cupboards and fridge and not fancying anything. I’m worried about feeling lightheaded if I don’t eat, but also don’t want to make myself eat when I don’t fancy it because it seems crazy to me not to lean into it! Especially as I’ve not got consistent suppression. I was planning to have a protein smoothie for lunch but my blender is in the dishwasher which will be running for a while longer. Debating whether to force myself to eat one of the things I really don’t want, or see how I go and hope I don’t feel lightheaded again.. hope everyone’s having a good day

You sound like you are reacting and losing similar to me. I have done jab 3 of 2.5 mg but have not really lost any weight this week and have been able to eat more so have got the 5mg pen on order! Keen to know how you find your 5mg jab. Hopefully a smooth transition! Let me know!

When you filled out Zava's form, did you say you were already taking Mounjaro and taking the 2.5mg dose? Did they ask you to upload evidence of your previous medication? There are other pharmacies who will let you change when your BMI is below 30, have a look at the monj.co.uk website for a list of all suppliers and try some of those.

Mounraine · 23/04/2025 14:42

Week 3. Today I'm feeling some constipation and 'food noise' (or, what I understand by that term anyway). I'm finding it difficult to strike a balance between fear of side effects and wanting to get what I'm paying for.

Ethela · 23/04/2025 09:34

Despite losing 10lb in first 10 days I am now on W4D5 and not lost anything since. I had such ranging hunger in W2/3 that I was convinved I had missed a dose. I am doing 2MAD / IF - so first food at 3pm. I am on HRT and have had a heavy period dor the past week and at 58 not had one for 6-7 years. Seems the prog is not being absorbed so need to see GP - also causing me insomnia and therefore shocking mood in day time.

Yesterday I had such bad abdominal discomfort - so severely bloated I couldnt sit and was unable to sleep 4am - I was googling gastroparesis. This has passed this morning but I am wiped out. I didnt eat healthy yesterday - only 2 crumpets with butter and a kitkat at 3pm - I needed some comfort food but was too uncomfortable to eat thereafter.

I am hoping that when the period finishes and now the bloating has resolved (for today at least) - I will start to see a shift in the scales?

Please do see your GP about this. Post menopausal bleeding accompanied by abdominal bloating need to be investigated urgently, it may be nothing to do with the weight loss injections.

Just ordered my second pen, swapped to Pillsorted from MedicineMarketplace because on Monj.co.uk it was the cheapest for 5mg with a discount and had good trustpilot ratings. Was a bit more faffy than I expected, I still had to either do a video consultation to confirm height and weight OR submit a video of myself stating my details and showing me getting on the scales. Wasn't really expecting that since I'd already uploaded a photo of previous prescription and my driving licence.
Then ended up having to book video consultation because I had trouble uploading the video, so that was a wait or two days, and then the pharmacist was 40 mins late letting me into the meeting si I had to ring to see what was happening🙄
It's put me off swapping in future somewhat because I thought it was easier than that. I don't want to be faffing with videos and consultations every time.
Anyway, all ordered! Hopefully things will start happening foe me soon, since I've been two weeks on 2.5mg and i've lost one measly pound 😂
Only a teeny bit of appetite suppression, as well, so nothing like the experience many people here have had. On the plus side though, no side effects.
I actually decided to give myself a 3.75 mg dose for my third week to see how I'd cope with that. So I'm day three of that and I've definitely got appetite suppression now. All I've had to eat today is 40g fruit n fibre cereal at midday, and I'm still not hungry. Not even peckish, I still feel full. Normally I'd be quite hungry after 5 hours without food
I'm not sure of the figures though now, I don't think I can get another 3.75g out of my 2.5g pen for the 4th week, because that will be 2 x2.5g and 2 x3.75g. I don't think a 2.5g pen has that much in it? Need to get my maths head on next week!

I've just switched to medicine marketplace from Voy as although slightly more expensive at the lower doses, the higher doses are obviously a lot more cheaper.
I don't think I can be bothered switching supplier each time.
Hoping ordering them for my next dose in a month or so will be more straight forward x x x

Oh, forgot to say I had a posh sausage sandwich and a slice of cake late afternoon and felt really queasy in the evening and most of the night and had a bad headache! I don't know if that was just side effects from increasing the dose, or actually related to the fatty food. The cake was completely unnecessary, as I didn't even eat all the sandwich, but it was one I'd never tried before (rose and pistachio) and I was afraid the coffee shop might not have it again and I'd miss my chance!
Serves me right 😂

MedicineMarketplace were good, and I thought I'd be staying with them because as you say their prices for the higher doses are very good. Pillsorted was only £105 including P&P though, while MM is currently £135, and £30 is a lot for me. So I may go back to them at a later date as Pillsorted definitely won't be the cheapest without the discount next time.

Thanks - I know as my mother died of ovarian cancer at 62 only 6 weeks after diagnosis - bloating and finally pain were her only symptoms. I have twice had break through bleeding on HRT in the last 3 years - both times sent for hysteroscopy and biopsy which were clear both times but womb lining had thickened which is risk of endomentrial cancer which the prog is there to prevent and seems like its not being absorbed due to MJ - so period is back. I dont think I am at any real risk of anything sinister after 4 weeks - just need another way to get prog.
